  1. Pokemon Sapphire Classic
  2. Late Brawly
  3. [Updated 6 Sep 2026]
  4.
  5. - Recommended for <30IV~ atk (30-31IV~ get slightly higher rolls on Machop, so they could do early Brawly, but later is safer anyway)
  6. - The main issue is a lack of experience in the early-mid game without Brawly (he gives 653xp)
  7. - This can be slightly alleviated by doing Laura early (+273xp), then leaving the gym to continue on
  8. - Low attack (20-23IV~) suffers the most, as these kips need L19 for Grovyle; this requires another optional
  9. - For this reason, you could just reset over low attack, but you don't know you're low attack until L11
  10.
  11. EXP NOTES
  12. - Jose gives 323xp
  13. - Tommy gives 289xp
  14. - Timmy gives 781xp ($224 prize money)
  15. - Isabel gives 770xp
  16. - Always fight Clark (+441xp)
  17. - Assuming early Laura and not including any optionals (other than Clark), you are short:
  18. > 333xp to L16 for Laura
  19. > 276xp to L18 for Grovyle
  20. > 1053xp to L19 for Grovyle
  21. - Since you'll want to evolve before Laura, you still want to do Jose/Tommy+1 encounter (or +Winston) before taking Briney
  22. - Isabel is technically faster than Timmy (2 mons vs. 3), but Plusle usually outspeeds you and can Growl
  23. - Timmy seems to be the best option for low attack
  24. > Poochyena: MS/Torrent WG (Sand Attack, so prefer WG if Torrent)
  25. > Aron: WG/MS (calc WG, might need Torrent with bad spatk)
  26. > Electrike: Mud-Slap/MS (needs testing; if he's -def, Mud-Slap kills, but it's a 50% range on neutral def)
  27.
  28. MONEY NOTES
  29. - Skipping Brawly introduces some money problems in the mid-game: you lose his $1800, and the $1500 from selling Bulk Up
  30. - Timmy gives an extra $224, but only if you are low attack
