  1. Games Done Quick (GDQ) events are honestly like a second Christmas to me. The event, both in the winter and summer(and fall now with GDQx), is all about raising money for a good cause while also showcasing a hobby that we're all huge nerds about.
  2.
  3. There is a problematic trend I and multiple other people see the event going on now, however, and this trend can somewhat be traced back to around 2015, which is around when the event became more corporate-like as it became bigger. Basically, the problem the event has as of the past few years is that there is a disproportionate amount of Nintendo games and games from well-established franchises like Borderlands, Zelda, and Mega Man compared to any other type of game out there that people submit for each event.

  5. The trend I and multiple other people see the event going on is that the GDQ games committee seems to be gradually culling series like Tomb Raider and genres like horror and stealth from the schedule for each event going forward. I think it first became prevalent in 2018, which is when they first implemented a rule that basically prohibits games involving graphic violence and war violence from being accepted. In AGDQ 2019 there was only 2 horror games, then in SGDQ 2019 there was literally just 1 horror game (Resident Evil 2 Remake), with a different horror game (Silent Hill 3) being relegated to the Silly Block with a dumb meme category being the run they accepted. In general, with SGDQ 2019 the games committee made a bunch of safe picks for the games list instead of taking more risks and letting things like Shadow of the Tomb Raider in (to give an example).

  7. What makes me concerned is that this same event (SGDQ 2019) that had really safe picks for the schedule also made the most money that any single GDQ event has ever made. The games committee then might see that and use it as a reason to prioritize these well-established games that bring in hype and money for the charity, essentially leaving most other runners in the dust
