  30. 4.0=TANK SIMMING ON /SIMG/ AT A GLANCE=
  31. The two most popular tanksims on /simg/ at the time of writing are Graviteam's Steel Armor: Blaze of War, and eSim Games' Steel Beasts Pro: Personal Edition.
  32.
  33. Steel Armor: Blaze of War (Shortened to "SABOW") is set primarily in the Iran-Iraq War (with maps and smaller campaigns set during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and in the Angolan Civil War), allowing the player to crew any position in either a Soviet T-62 or an American M60A1. Interaction with the tank and your crew is accomplished almost entirely through hotkeys or clicking on UI elements, and there are no complex systems management sequences- you click a button to turn on your tank's engine, you click a different button to turn on the stabilizer, etcetera. SABOW has quite good physics for tanks travelling over terrain, and the armor and ballistic modelling is realistic.
  34.
  35. Steel Beasts Pro: Personal Edition (Shortened to just "Steel Beasts", SB, SBPro) is the consumer version of software used by some military groups for training and crew familiarization. It features a good variety of playable vehicles (everything from a modernized T-55 up to an M1A2, from a BMP-2 to an M2), all with fully-modeled interiors, and most with all combat-relevant systems modeled. While hotkeys do exist for SB, most vehicles have clickable interiors. All crew positions other than loader can be occupied by the player. Vehicle physics are somewhat basic, however they're close enough to get the job done. Be aware that Steel Beasts is quite expensive- $125USD for an unlimited license which requires a $40USD upgrade to play any subsequent major versions- time-limited licenses are available ($10USD for 30 days, $25USD for 4 months, $40USD for 1 year), and these include any major versions that may be pushed during the period the license is active. The $125USD license also requires the usage of a USB dongle for copyprotection- the time-limited licenses do not require this.
  36.
  37. Both games are quite dated, graphically, however this should be expected with any sort of niche simulator like this.

  65. 8.0=STEEL FURY: KHARKOV 1942=
  66. >I WANT A WWII TANKSIM
  67. Well I got your answer right here, future tankfag, it's called Steel Fury: Kharkov 1942. Like most tank sims out there, it has STEEL in the name, so you know it's serious business. However, as with any game released in fucking 2007 by those god damn commies, it is an eyesore nowadays, and lacks content. But with this very quick intro, you should be able to grab your favorite tank from the time, stick your mouth in the gun barrel and play it like a fucking musical instrument.
  68.
  69. >WHAT THE FUCK DO I DO?
  70. 1-Get the game from any source you wish to acquire it from
  71. 2-Install it outside of Program Files, apparently this is necessary. Just install it directly under C:\
  72. 3-Get fucking STA (Steel Tank Addon) from here: http://stasf2008.ephpbb.com/t6-steel-tank-add-on-steel-fury-1-2
  73. 4-If the forum asks for registration to see or to download the mod, just make a fake dummy account
  74. 5-FOLLOW THE GODDAMN INSTALL ORDER AND GET USED TO THE UKRANIAN PROPAGANDA IF YOU PLAN TO PLAY THIS SIM
  75. The install order for me went like
  76. 1:SSM 2.3
  77. 2:STA 1.0 Full
  78. 3:STA GMP 1.47
  79. 4:STA GMP 2.37
  80. 5:STA GMP 3.32
  81. 6:SepUpd 2015 for STA 1.0
  82. AND THAT'S IT
  83. 6-Just play the sim. Messing around with the options should be necessary if you don't want your graphics to look like absolute garbage.
  84.
  85. 9.0=STEEL BEASTS=
  86. ((Coming soon))
