band recommendation

The other day a friend of mine recommended a band to me, but he did it by saying, “you should listen to this band I saw last night. They’re not that great, but they’re still pretty alright.” What a terrible fucking sell. Even if he had said, “this is the best band in the world,” I wouldn’t have bothered to look them up. Nobody listens to bands that other people tell them to listen to. Other people are rarely right about these kinds of things. The only way I’m listening to a band that someone recommended to me would be if I was dying of some rare disease and the only way to beat it would be to listen to that band. Even then I’d probably skip a few songs.
