Wall of timber

The eastern sky was lightening as another explosion rocked the post, this time at the northern gate. Sappers had gotten close enough with their goblin powder bombs to hit the gate and reduce it to splinters. There was a shout on the far side, and the shadowy mud-spattered troops surged forward.

“Can you fix that?” bellowed Lovisa.

“You still want to evacuate?” Jodah shouted back, his ears still ringing from the blast.

“We don’t have a choice,” shouted the chief, and Jodah agreed.

The bottom of his mind felt like an empty stew pot, with only the last dregs of power available. He compressed a tight ball of red energy and spread his hands out against the group. The resulting tremor radiated out, knocking the forward line of assault back, out of the fort itself. With a last bit of mana, Jodah raised a solid wall of timber where the gates had been.
