- The makeshift labs attached to the Growth's capital building are the home of many strange hybrid plants, bent to the whim of Floran scientists by Gene Twister pods. After many complaints of weird mutant leaves creeping out of the walls of the seed and trying to grope pedestrians, Rosalind decided it was time for a designated experimental zone for growing the kind of weird flora that are the heart of her imperial endeavours.
- Village 3 (its name was not recorded) was an abandoned hamlet located less than a day's walk from Zigdrasil. At one time, it was the home of at least two dozen human families. Its inhabitants were enslaved, of course, during one of the CWEEDs' initial raids. One notable asset the town had were its tall, sturdy walls. It was not enough to stop a few platoons of incredibly skilled plantgirl warriors, but it might be enough to corral a large experimental growing facility. Most of the buildings were torn down, all save the large town hall that would serve as the home-away-from-home for the scientists and an emergency redoubt against attack. Attack from outside assailants, or an experiment that might get out of hand.
- The growing space is divided into several plots of different sizes, separated by at least a foot of of thinstrunk wall. The walls burrow at least six feet down and six feet above ground to keep the more persistent plants from mixing. It's terrible practice to allow experiments to effect one another, and since the Omegafern Incident, it is also known to be incredibly dangerous.
- The Laboreum, as it came to be known, employs scientists, guards, maintinence personal, and a select group of phytomancers. These magic-wielders are kept dosed with enough Austras Leaves to make growing the mutants fast and easy, while on-location Gene Twisters spit in the face of their Creator and rearrange Her good works to their sick and twisted desires.
- It is also home to a handful of test subjects. They are used to gage the effectiveness of any number of things, from food deliciousness to incapacitating capability of the Omegafern. Subject compliance is obtained by rewards and punishments. Good behaviour gets food and small doses of Floran Syrup for them to enjoy with one another. Bad behaviour gets less fun food, more experiments, and no Syrup at all. The heavy duty walls around the compound deter escape attempts, as do notices around the experimental plots of the deadliness of some of the test subjects. Most of those are written in the human tongue for their benefit, and are largely exaggerations...largely.
- Regardless of insistence, no personal will be admitted under Clearance Level 3. All personal leaving the Laboreum are to recite the password of the day. Anything resembling the Omegafern is to be destroyed at all costs. Anything resembling the Omegafern but able to recite the password is to be detained.
