Dream Ponies: Rough concept draft

Type: Fairy / Night Ponies

Habitat: The Dream World, Ever Free Forest, Equastria, misc…

Description:  The male and female dream ponies look just like regular Earth Pony stallions and mares respectably, except that they have ethereal manes and tails that trail off into spirals and energy (similar to those of Celestia and Luna: only not as elaborate and usually more solidly colored), as well as a pair of nearly flat veil like antenna that start just before and between their ears. These antenna come to a triangular like point. The antenna are about twice too three times the length of the pony’s body, neck, and head combined; although some Dream Ponies have antenna that curl up, twist, or are a bit shorter.

   Dream Pony manes and tails can change into longer forms, usually when the dream pony is flying making them resemble a comet. Dream ponies also possess diminutive wings (which can grow in size) yet don’t seem to be needed for flight, instead used as props to scare would be predators away or as weapons/tools. The wings can be either bat like or resemble the wings of some insects (usually the two pairs of wings with the forward set larger than the backset as with a butterfly or dragonfly). They also possess short fangs and a tooth structure more akin to omnivores than herbivores.

 Abilities: Dream Ponies possess a few abilities, firstly minor shape shifting abilities, usually in terms of the mane as mentioned above; the manes can also become darker/more solid in appearance; usually done while the main body changes to a darker color. This is often accompanied by the wings becoming larger and the eyes glowing. This is an apparent self defense mechanism to scare away would be predators or opponents. They can also extend strands of their hair to act like tentacles or weapons

Sound Imitation: able to imitate a variety of sounds, some are better at this than others. Or create fully new sounds. *some can do this very well, others not at all, see Dream Crafting for purpose behind this ability*

Flight: as stated above they can fly, however they don’t seem to require their wings to do so. Instead they tuck in their legs while their manes and tales extend. Their flight tends to be along surfaces, snaking through trees, serpentine in the air, corkscrewing, and moving up and down like a wave. It gives them otherworldliness along with a strange sort of grace.

Magical Levitation / Beams: the antenna glow while they levitate objects or fire a beam, some can even breathe out the beam or breathe fire (different colored fire at that).

Dream Crafting: Dream Ponies can enter dreams, often crafting scenarios and templates for dreams for other ponies. Some can inspire ponies to create things, acting as Muses, seldom does a pony see a Dream Pony in their true form; they take the form of mirror images, voices, or other figures as they coach a pony along.

*Individual Dream Ponies can have different degrees of the above abilities, or lack some of them. For instance Night Mare’s shape shifting is top notch allowing her to change her color completely, or use her tail and mane like a multifaceted weapon’s arsenal, and she has the unique special talent of being able to Dream Craft objects into the physical world, even things she made up herself (it’s similar to a normal Manifestation spell or transmogrification, only she gains magical insight into new objects from the Acoshic record, but may quickly forget soon after how the new item works: see Night Mare’s section for more details on her unique abilities).
