  1. Hey Raichu!,
  2.
  3. Uh oh! Are you still logged into your account on your desktop or browser app by any chance? If so, you can disable two factor authentication by using the "View Backup Codes" option in "User Settings".
  4. 1. Press the User Settings cog and you'll automatically be taken to the "My Account" tab
  5. 2. Press "View Backup codes" and it'll prompt you to enter your account password.
  6. 3. Once you enter your password, you'll see a list of ten 8-digit backup codes! Immediately screenshot this, download them, or take a picture of them (or all of the above)!
  7. 4. Then press "Remove 2FA" and it will prompt you to enter in a 6-digit code.
  8. 5. Ignore that prompt, and enter in only one of your 8-digit backup codes.
  9. 6. Once you enter it in, it should disable two factor authentication.
  10. (Note: After you disable two factor authentication, the current backup codes will become invalid)
  11.
  12. If you aren't still logged into the app, then you can search your PC for "discord_backup_codes.txt" which is the default file name that the codes would be under if you saved them previously.
  13.
  14. Just keep me updated here!
  15.
  16. Cheers,
  17. Penguin

  20. Hi,
  21.
  22. Please don't copy paste templates to me.
  23.
  24. I explained that I am not logged into my account anywhere, that's why I wanted a new code to scan.
  25.
  26. Windows - Reinstalled, changed completely from laptop to PC. Laptop DED
  27.
  28. Phone - Factory reset
  29.
  30. The backup codes exist nowhere anymore.
  31.
  32. Isn't it possible to go through some security procedure, where I can prove my identity and get a code to scan to register discord 2FA on my phone's authenticator?
  33.
  34. I know all of the information, except the 2FA code.
  35.
  36. Thanks
  37.

  44. Hey Raichu!,
  45.
  46. I'm so sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but unfortunately, we aren't able to remove two factor authentication from accounts or delete accounts with 2FA still enabled due to security reasons, and the only way you'll be able to regain access is if you saved the backup codes from inside Discord when you initially set up the two factor authentication. If you don't have access to these codes, then you'll have to create a new account.
  47.
  48. Sadly, we don't have any other alternative recovery methods at this point in time. Since Discord does not collect any personal information to tie to the account, our current policy is that your 10 emergency 2FA backup codes (that you download when you enable the 2FA and connect with your mobile device) act as your only form of official verification and proof that you are the owner of the account to disable the 2FA. So at this point in time, users must manually choose to use these backup codes to disable the 2FA on their own account and verify/confirm the disabling of the 2FA.
  49.
  50. I'm so sorry again for all the inconvenience and hassle, because I know how frustrating it is to create a new email and account, but please let me know if you have any other questions.
  51.
  52. Cheers,
  53. Penguin

  57. Hello,
  58. I am not trying to kill the messenger, and I am trying to be as polite as possible, but this is causing me a great deal of distress. Therefore, please do not take personally the following lines of text, just hear me out.
  59. It is ridiculous to lose all of my saved servers(including mine), friends and IMs because of a 2FA failure, considering I can prove my identity.
  60. There should be a method for unpairing devices once the user provides personal information, so that they can pair their device(s) anew.
  61. I don't see the method that you're currently using as secure, because it eliminates the purpose of 2FA.
  62. The backup codes, which I didnt know existed until today, are sensitive information that is being stored on my computer and can be stolen at any time.
  63. If someone steals that file and unpairs my device, pairs his own device to my account, does that mean I will not be able to login to my account anymore???
  64. Should this be a possible scenario? Should backup codes be stored on my computer?? 2 factor authentication should be a combination of something I know + something I HAVE - a token, a phone.
  65. What if my machine is compromised??
  66. Please explain as I am very confused and frustrated.
  67. Thanks.
