  2. lets go. colorado-detroit. as any good series they come out hitting to set the tone. two of the best goalies in the world, roy and hasek doing their stuff. it was 2-2 going into the 3rd. and who does detroit turn to, smooth skating, soft hands of darren mccarthy. now watch this beautiful natural hat trick. - moments to live forever, eh darren - you like that.. you like that? alright i'm gotta go out there and star okay. - okay - be right back. - game 2 and they're still hitting. the goalies are keeping (inaudible) in the game. in overtime (indible, but presumably chris drury scores the winner) hey chris, ho hum, oh well another OT winner - it's tied one game each back in denver and things haven't changed. wings have 42 shots in the game heading into overtime. in overtime, everything goes wrong for colorado. bad line change, olasson hits the stick and the swings are up two games to one. colorado wins game 4 and it's 2-2 going back to hockeytown usa. dominik says he's ready lets go. patrick's ready too though. patrick gets a little help from brian wilsie. it's another overtime forsberg cruises in for the winner and makes it look easy, woah. colorado is looking pretty. - game six and it's back in denver and like they say, detroit's back is against the wall. hasek's using his head gaain. now watch how patrick raises his glove to show the referee he had the puck. blow the whistle, blow the whistle. but this time it backfires on patric. he wasn't hotdogging folks. he does it all the time. but i don't think he'll do it next year folks. - game seven back in detroit the handwriting is on the wall and there's no stopping detroit now. detroit wins and it's off (inaudible, presumably the finals) and stevie wonder can't wait. - sens and leafs and this guy is right, it ain't no ballet. there's a lot of hate in this series i'll tell ya -- esspn

  4. carolina and montrea, two surprise teams int he playoffs. carolina wins the first game in a breeze and stormy's happy. saku kovi (weird prononication) looks pretty healthy here. theodore keeps the magic going. that little guy can move. koviu gets the winner. you know, montreal was outshot 46-16 (cuts out) if you can believe it, and they win 4-0. it's 1-1, heading back to montreal, thanks to theodore. you notice on some (hits) (cuts) montreal looks a little small, they gotta get bigger next year. my buddy kevin weekes and theodore doing a good job here. in overtime, no chance for weekes, you know you notice a lot of overtime goals (cut off) faceoffs in the corner. audette is happy to be in montreal. - game 4 and montreal looks to go up 3 games to 1. great pass by dougie gilmour to berezin, habs go up 3 nothing. carolina takes over in the 3rd, outshooting them 14 to 4, and cole scores the tying (sic) with less than a minute to go. losing those faceoffs will kill you, i'll tell ya, and the canadiens are on a slippery (cuts off but) slope. - jose has 158 shots in 4 games and he's wearing down, and like i said, carolina's big, and their wearing down the Canadiens. kevin weekes takes the hurricanes this far, and now irbe's taking over with his great run. Carolina wins in 6 games and pours it on. 221 shots in 6 games and they go on to meet the injured leafs. --- - (ric flair woo) leafs vs. hurricanes. and as usual, cujo is cujo (we will rock you in background) irbe's not bad either (getitng a goal is, cut out piece) gonna be tough in this series. hey folks, a game of inches. (audio cuts out)

  6. grapes i've been working on a couple of signature moves from patrick roy and grant fuhr. how bout this one, patrick roy (does glove thing) - lovely - grant fuhr (does dramatic glove save pose) i like, i like it - i've been workng on one of my own over the offseason, it's nick foley's signature (shovels puck out of net) hey, not bad, not bad. saw it last year (cherry/team laughs) - wipeout song starts. -- hold it, hold it, hold it, hold it, hold it, hold it, hold it. you know i'd like to know why you always bring it back to your forehand. the hardest shot i think.. is the backhand, and it's a great shot, right? - right grapes, i think it's the hardest shot in hockey to stop. i don't where it's going and neither do they. -- that's what i mean. and you rememebr vanbiesbrouck, the toronto-philly series, remember the tough time he had. - hey nick's right etc (lets go x2 look out song) -- esspn

  8. i know folks i bet you're wondering why i'm doing up here well i'm gonna tell ya. you know, around-around the benches there's an (inaudible) foul language going on, i hate to say that but it does go on. you know in the heat of the game you say things, the players are yelling, and the fans here up here so i was back of the bench here and one time i heard this voice say cherry, you got a filthy mouth. and i looked up and it was a little old lady, she was about the age of my mother. did i feel bad. so i came up here, this is while the game's going on, and i sat down and i says ratelle, i'm changing the lines from sitting up here so there was a little pause and i said to-you know mam, i-i put my arm around her, i do feel bad, but you've heard that language before, haven't ya? she (says) yes, i've heard it before, but i didn't pay $60 to hear it. so i went down, and i kept my mouth shut and i never swore after that. now i'd like to say something here, and this is the god's truth. you go in the dressing rooms of the nhl, the american league or the junior hockey, you'll hear bad language, there's no doubt about it, but i have never heard, and this is the god's truth, the lord's name taken in vein, so kids rmemebr that. i'm not saying say the other stuff, it's bad enough saying it, but never take the lord name's in vein, i'm telling ya the NHL guys don't. - naturally he condems not people using homophobic or biggoted language, but PEOPLE TAKING OGD'S NAME IN VEIN

  10. mike scernio I get a little emotional here and he had a halo around he had things dug into his skull and the whole dela he had a broken and he said grapes I'm coming back and I I looked at him and I said oh had a little neck at the time - and everything this kid's never coming back for all you kids in the hospital and all you kids who are hurt and you think you're never going to make it you're in the bed now things are running on you just think of this guy with the halo on with the things in his skull he made it and you can make it - -- it's back aain the octpus is back again detroit jump jump jump breather bang bang now

You're gonna love it (music starts) lets go - hey the only thing i know about this fight is the bruins uniform. Winnie the Pooh. boy these guys mean it. look like criphandlers going. look at the crowd (starts laughint) in the back. nobody sitting down, there (inaubdle) standing up, imagine every guy standing up and they say they don't look like fighting (pause, brief) in the national hockey league. look at the players in the background, guy banging.. the boards there, hey these guys two guys mean it boy, two good guys going at it, and like i've said on other tapes there, nobody really hurt (oxymoron) look at the crowd going nuts, standing ovation for these guys (10:03) boy you can't believe how tired they are the end. two good guys! still going. nobody hurt. crowd lov (inaudible presumbly crowd loving it), players loving it. nothing wrong with it at all (transition swoop) - and now we have a strange one chris neil of ottawa, steve pete of washington. now watch, neil's going with the left, pete's going with the right, right. now halfway through, they switch, i haven't seen that before, i'll tell ya. -- esspn

  17. you know alot of people ask me whatever happened to the boston bruins the night that darly sitler scored 10 points, well here's what happened.
  18.
  19. rookie dave reese was in the net, as everyone knows. you know dave had ah a pretty good record, 14 games he had a record of 7-5 and 2. that's not too bad and he had two shutouts, and an average of 3.27. hey, that's pretty good. but I'll tell you something, every time the Leafs shot it went in, Sitler was scoring from everywhere. you know and alot of people a me, why didn't you put gary cheevers in. well I remember (chuckles) he was at the end of the bench and he put a towel over his head, I couldn't put gerry in because he just come back from the WHA. I'll tell ya, he didn't even have a practice with us, so I had to keep him for the next night we played Detroit in Boston. I had to leave poor Dave in the net, and the Leafs showed no mercy. It wasn't even I'll tell ya to watch Dave get hammered like that, but I had to leave him in for the good of the team!. You know I never forgot the Leafs pouring it on there, but let me tell ya something. Later that year the Leafs gave Sitler a silver tea set for murdering us like that. I got the paper, I cut-out the picture and every time we came to the Maple Leaf Gardens after that, I put this picture up of sitler you know laughing and everything in the dressing room, showing the trophy and all that stuff and everything, and I said to the Bruins ''remember, they showed no mercy on us'', and you know folks I'll tell ya something. for the next three years, we never los tto the Leafs at the Garden. you know this is a lesson for all you young coaches out there. remember it's not smart to embarrass the other team, because some day it might come back to hunt ya.
  20.
  21. one of my favorite games of all time here was when I was coach the Boston Bruins and we were going for first spot. we had to win the last four games to clinch first over buffalo. we were losing 5-3 to the leafs with 1:30 to go. but manny hagman makes it 5-4. the next shift wayne cashman digs the puck out of the corner, dougie hallworth comes in and ties up the game , boy it was getting exciting. two shifts later donnie markov scores to give us a 6-5 lead and then rickie smith scores in the empty net to clinch the game, oh boy were we excited. hey i'll tell ya a funny story about that one. sabres gm punch implach, hey you know what he did, he left the game with two minutes to go thinking he was in first place. when he got to his car, (chuckles) car attendant said to him ''geez, that was a tough leafs loss, eh punch?'' punch says ''what are you talking about? leafs woN!'' and (chuckles) and the attendant says the bruins won 7-5, and you know folks we went on to clinch first spot. and of course you remember the time we broke the record for 20 or more goal scorers in one season, here's bobby miller breaking the record, and I'll ya folks, life was beautiful.

I wanna see the guy hammer the puck! everyone knows who won the rocket richard trophy last year, it was jarome iginla, he had 52 goals. Now quick, tell me who has the most assists last year? It was Adam Oates, with 67. And his team let him go for nothing! now the league gives a trophy for the most goals, but not the most assists.  look, I'm not saying bei a puck hog, all I'm saying is shoot the puck when you have a chance, like these guys.

From the Kootney Ice, rookie Danny Blackburn. Corey Schwab, you think Corey had it tough. He fills in for Cujo last year and now he's backing up Martin Brodeur. Nashville's Mike Dunham. From the Manitoba Moose Johan Hedberg. Gold medal winner Martin Brodeur.

  59. You gotta be tough to be a goalie, you gotta stand in there and stop the puck and keep an eye on who's coming. Hey sometimes they try and they win an academy award. The cat came back here. Look out, Patrick. You know folks I know how to stop all this, guarenteed. Put the pipes back in. When I played (with) the pipes and the players tried to crash the net, we'd steer them into the pipes and I'll tell ya, he didn't try it a second time. Hey, this is a new way to get a goalie. Well that one hurt. I don't get it, they run the goalies like there's no tomorrow, and they still can't score. Hey get my glove off, watch them help and get Hurme's glove off. Now here's Dafoe and Lalime, a little disagreement, Patrick get that mask off first.
  60.
  61. We're going to put the old biscuit in the basket, starting with my buddy Jarome Iginla. Listen they didn't give him the MVP, are you kidding, 50 goals, unbelieveable the MVP as far as I'm concerned, go Jarome.

  93. Game 4 and the Leafs weren't going down easy. Leafs down by one late in third and it's the old wrap-around by Corosn. I don't know about this one. Definitely a penalty because McCabe doesn't touch the puck, but a penalty shot, I don't know. None the less a penatly shot, and Bates zings it home. Tough way to lose though.

The kiss of death here, check out the time in the upper left hand corner. That's all the Wings needed. The best power forward in the league Todd Bertuzzi gets a pentatly shot. But penatly shots are Hasek's niche. Give em the five hole and take it away, eh Dominik?. Game 4 and Todd still hasn't quit. Cooke ties up the game in third... but in the third (slurred, sounds like thirdz) it's Stevie Wonder Yzerman giving a great second effort to score the winner, what a guy.Detroit is smoking and that's all she wrote for Vancouver, and the Wings start their march to the Stanley Cup.

  129. rookie dave reese was in the net, as everyone knows. you know dave had ah a pretty good record, 14 games he had a record of 7-5 and 2. that's not too bad and he had two shutouts, and an average of 3.27. hey, that's pretty good. but I'll tell you something, every time the Leafs shot it went in, Sitler was scoring from everywhere. you know and alot of people a me, why didn't you put gary cheevers in. well I remember (chuckles) he was at the end of the bench and he put a towel over his head, I couldn't put gerry in because he just come back from the WHA.
  130.
  131. one of my favorite games of all time here was when I was coach the Boston Bruins and we were going for first spot. we had to win the last four games to clinch first over buffalo. we were losing 5-3 to the leafs with 1:30 to go. but manny hagman makes it 5-4. the next shift wayne cashman digs the puck out of the corner, dougie hallworth comes in and ties up the game , boy it was getting exciting. two shifts later donnie markov scores to give us a 6-5 lead and then rickie smith scores in the empty net to clinch the game, oh boy were we excited. hey i'll tell ya a funny story about that one. sabres gm punch implach, hey you know what he did, he left the game with two minutes to go thinking he was in first place. when he got to his car, (chuckles) car attendant said to him ''geez, that was a tough leafs loss, eh punch?'' punch says ''what are you talking about? leafs woN!'' and (chuckles) and the attendant says the bruins won 7-5, and you know folks we went on to clinch first spot. and of course you remember the time we broke the record for 20 or more goal scorers in one season, here's bobby miller breaking the record, and I'll ya folks, life was beautiful.

  166. (end of coaches corner theme, woosh sound effect) you know what i remember folks last year in the playoffs i remember the boston bruins the washington capitals and i remember the overtime goal i'll never foget it for boston would have put them up 2-1 in the series. and timmy taylor had a little toe in they call it back and then the boston bruins lost, i never forgot that, and you know a wise guy, a very very astute person said something on tv (rewinding/windy sounding noise) (25:44 noise ends) - all you have to do is this. put it back to the old size, take three feet off size (side?), keep the little bubble out in front so the guys don't come back and sit on the goaltender, they won't crash him, that's the way to do it. do it, and you'll have uh, have somebody that's played the game and been in around there, that's the way to do it. (rewinding/windy sounding noise) and you see folks, they listened to me (chuckles) but pat burns said, a year too later grapes (wooshing sound, transition to goalie runs in) -- -esspn

  170. carolina and montrea, two surprise teams int he playoffs. carolina wins the first game in a breeze and stormy's happy. saku kovi (weird prononication) looks pretty healthy here. theodore keeps the magic going. that little guy can move. koviu gets the winner. you know, montreal was outshot 46-16 (cuts out) if you can believe it, and they win 4-0. it's 1-1, heading back to montreal, thanks to theodore. you notice on some (hits) (cuts) montreal looks a little small, they gotta get bigger next year. my buddy kevin weekes and theodore doing a good job here. in overtime, no chance for weekes, you know you notice a lot of overtime goals (cut off) faceoffs in the corner. audette is happy to be in montreal.
