  1. Glitching 101: What is a glitch?
  2.
  3. What is a glitch?
  4. To put it simply, a glitch is a mistake in the game's code that allows the player to do something unintended.
  5. For a long winded explanation, it's not so easy to define. Many debates have been held over the differences between "tricks" and "glitches". For the sake of this series, we'll keep it simple and count them as the same thing.
  6. I feel like at this point, it needs to be stated that using glitches in the context of non-online games is not considered cheating. Here, we are abusing mechanics that are all available within the game in order to have fun in some way, shape, or form.
  7. Now that that's all out of the way, we can start showing off.
  8. I'm going to be giving some examples in very broad terms here, and hopefully in the next videos I'll be able to go more indepth with glitch finding methods, as well as what actually causes them to happen.
  9. Clipping
  10. Clipping is one of the more common glitches, because it has to do with a lack of perfect collision code, which is notoriously difficult to maintain. Clipping refers to any way of getting pushed through an object or wall.
  11. [TWW Ledge Clipping, Roll clipping, Walk clipping] [Uncharted clipping] [Oblivion save clipping] [Portal edge glitch] [winx club]
  12. Zipping:
  13. In some games, instead of simply clipping through a wall or being pushed back out, you are pushed along the wall at high speeds.
  14. [MM2]
  15. 2D Height Desync:
  16. Top-down 2D games typically limit the player to specific heights, and rely on the character being at those heights. By breaking out of an animation mid-height-change, it's possible to be at an unintended height.
  17. [Winx GBA] [Ant Bully GBA]
  18. Infinite Jump;
  19. Infinite jump is a broad term that simply means "repeated unintended height gain". This is typically done by getting the character into a sort of "ground state" in the air, but it is not limited to that.
  20. [Sonic Boom] [darksiders 2]
  21. Momentum Carry:
  22. Generic term I just made up to cover a wide variety of glitches. This covers anything from horizontal to vertical momentum being stored and increased past expected levels.
  23. [HL1 Bunny hopping] [HL2 ABH] [Azurik fling] [TWW Superswimming]
  24. This has just been a little sneak peek of what's to come, future videos are not limited to the topics covered in this video as well. For all varying levels of glitchers, feel free to leave comments below. I'd love to be able to show off some lesser known glitches and games to help people branch out.
