  1. >You are now Hope.
  2. >Early to rise, early to leave.
  3. >Today you’re going to visit the others.
  4. >But there was the question of who first.
  5. >Anon was still working with Fluttershy, and yesterday he mentioned something about helping Rarity today.
  6. >So that actually leaves two of them; Rainbow Dash and Applejack.
  7. >Then you get an idea, why not both?
  8. >Rainbow Dash seems pretty cool. You’ve seen her in action a few time, plus she could probably tell you more about Pinkie and your dad.
  9. >Now that you think about it, where does she even live?
  10. >As you walk through the streets of Ponyville, you smile and greet each pony you pass by.
  11. >You come across a light cream coloured mare sporting a dark blue and pink curly mane.
  12. “I’m looking for Rainbow Dash, have you seen her anywhere?”
  13. >She turns around and her face contorts as if she has seen a ghost.
  14. >Her gaze falls upon your hair and tail.
  15. “Ma’am...?”
  16. >The mare softens her expression to a somewhat tearful yet joy-filled one. “I’m sorry, it’s just... your mane and tail...”
  17. >You look at your tail in confusion.
  18. “Is... something wrong with it?”
  19. >”No my dear, it just reminds me of somepony I use to know a long time ago.”
  20. >The skin on your back begins to crawl.
  21. >”Oh I wouldn’t worry about it, you said you’re looking for who again?”
  22. “R-Rainbow Dash, ma’am...”
  23. >”So well mannered. If it’s that pegasus, look no further.”
  24. >With a single hoof she gestures upward.
  25. >Up above on top of a puffy white cloud is Rainbow Dash, apparently sleeping.
  26. “Oh, thank you very much.”
  27. >You’re about to take off when the mare asks you a question. “What’s your name, dear?”
  28. “Hope. What’s yours?”
  29. >”Bon Bon. Well, I should be going now, but it was nice meeting you.”
  30. “Yeah, but I’m sure we’ll see each other from time to time.”
  31. >She begins to trot off and you look up, thinking about how you’re going to get Dash’s attention.
  32. >Bon Bon calls out to you one last time. “When you see your mother, tell her I said hello.”
  33. >You thought your ears were playing tricks on you.
  34. >As soon as you turned to look at her she was already gone, completely disappeared into the crowd of ponies around you.
  35. >Did she...?
  36. >You stand there confused for a moment but you resume your plan to get Dash down from her cloud.
  37. “Rainbow Dash!”
  38. >She doesn’t budge.
  39. >You look around and see all the houses and other tall buildings.
  40. >Idea!
  41. >You take a running start and jump onto the top of a nearby house. Running along the roof, you take another leap upwards at the pony.
  42. >This time you manage to get up just below her.
  43. “Dash!”
  44. >Gravity catches you and you fall down to the ground.
  45. >You land on top of another house, and you repeat the process.
  46. >Again you jump past the lazy pegasus. “Wake up!”
  47. >With a snort, she wakes up and yawns. You keep making passes at her while the ponies below watch the spectacle.
  48. >Finally she notices you. “Hope? How are you...?”
  49. “Do you wanna hang out?”
  50. >You make your final descent and land on the ground, almost cracking the pavement beneath your hooves.
  51. >Rainbow Dash flies off her cloud and hovers in front of you. “I never saw a pony jump that high before. What’s on your mind, kiddo?”
  52. >You take a moment to catch your breath.
  53. “I don’t know, maybe we can just hang out?”
  54. >Rainbow Dash gives you an uneasy look. “Well, I was planning on doing some training later this afternoon.”
  55. “Can I help?”
  56. >”Well, you seem to have strong legs, but I need someone that can keep up-“
  57. >With a twinkle in your eye you take off at break-neck speeds.
  58. >Dash is left coughing on your dust cloud.
  59. >Within seconds, you’re already running past the outskirts of Ponyville.
  60. >Despite everything passing by you like a blur, your keen eyesight has never failed you.
  61. >Your lungs already start to feel a slight burning sensation.
  62. >Rainbow Dash catches up and is flying right next to you. “Not too shabby, but you gotta have wings if you wanna go fast.”
  63. >She begins to ascend above you, but at the last second you catch a glimpse of a tree in the distance.
  64. >With a jump, you sail through the air and into the tree. From there you kick off and bound to even greater heights alongside Rainbow Dash.
  65. >The wind whipping around your face and the sensation of weightlessness is probably one of the most exhilarating feelings you have felt thus far.
  66. >As you soar through the air besides Rainbow Dash for those few moments, you playfully stick your tongue out at her.
  67. >The look on her face is priceless.
  68. >Unfortunately, you run out of gas.
  69. >Towards the ground, you descend like a projectile.
  70. >Below, a meadow sprawls out before you. With surefootedness, you land, leaving two long dug-out trenches of exposed dirt.
  71. >Rainbow Dash swoops in, seemingly flabbergasted by what she had seen. “Where did you learn to do that? I mean uh... you shouldn’t be so reckless.”
  72. >Resting your hands on your knees, you take a minute to catch your breath.
  73. “Training. And lots of it. I wouldn’t mind having a pair of wings...”
  74. >”Yeah, these bad boys have been through some tough spots.” She unfurls her wings and gives them a quick stretch. “So why all the racing?”
  75. “I don’t know, I just sometimes, you know, gotta let it all out.”
  76. >Rainbow Dash cocks an eyebrow at you.
  77. >You giggle awkwardly, but it was no use beating around the bush.
  78. “Did you know my dad very well?”
  79. >”Can’t say I knew him as well as Pinkie did. Is it still bugging you?”
  80. >You sigh heavily.
  81. “I just.... I feel compelled to do what he did after she died; making others happy. For most of my life I’ve trained to hunt and track down the supposed killer of my father, but now.... I don’t know.”
  82. >Dash walks up next to you and pats you on the back. “Hey now, I’m sure it’s not easy. Pinkie was what he needed to recover from his experience. I’m sure he would be proud of you no matter what.”
  83. >You look down over at the multicoloured pegasus.
  84. “What was Pinkie like?”
  85. >Dash looks off into the distance. “She was more than a good friend. Pinkie was literally the glue that held the town, and us, together. We all had our part but she would go out of her way to make everypony smile. I suppose that’s what Anon wanted as well; to live by other’s happiness, not misery.”
  86. >Her words echo through your mind.
  87. >Mother would often tell you that one day the world would be happier place.
  88. >She never spoke much on how to accomplish such a task.
  89. >But she made it clear that you would be the reason.
  90. >Maybe this is what she meant.
  91. >You feel this surge within your heart and can’t help but chuckle.
  92. “I think I get what you mean.”
  93. >Rainbow Dash smiles warmly. “I don’t know if I’m much help, but you’re a good kid. I should probably get going now.”
  94. “Wait! How about one more friendly race... between friends?”
  95. >This catches her interest and she flaps open her wings. “I don’t know. You’re at a disadvantage, Hope.”
  96. >A grin grows across your face.
  97. “Then let’s raise the stakes.”
  98. >”What do you have in mind?” Her tone becoming more curious.
  99. >You start to stretch your legs to limber up as well as to show off your flexibility.
  100. “Seeing as how I can’t fly, let’s keep things closer to the ground.”
  101. >Rainbow eyes you out of suspicion. “I’ve seen how fast you are, how would that be fair to me?”
  102. “Well, I can’t sprint for very long as you’ve seen. But this is what I’ve got in mind. See that small forest over there?”
  103. >She looks over in the direction you point. “What about it?”
  104. “We race through those trees. No touching the ground and no flying or jumping above the canopy. Deal?”
  105. >Dash couldn’t resist a challenge. She smirks back at you with confidence. “I like your guts, kid.”
  106. “As soon as we enter the woods, keep off the ground and below the canopy.”
  107. >”Yeah yeah, I’ll be waiting for you on the other side!” She begins to boast.
  108. >You take up your position as Dash stands next to you. Dash opens up her wings and gives them a few flaps.
  109. “On ‘Go’ we start.”
  110. >You could feel the adrenaline already pumping through your veins.
  111. “Three...Two... One...”
  112. >You could feel your legs tense up to a breaking point, the look of focus on Rainbow’s face was intense.
  113. >”Go!”
  114. >Like a coiled spring, the tension and power explodes as both of you take off.
  115. >RD is already ahead and enters the forest.
  116. >With a jump, you enter the upper branches of the trees and begin to hop from branch to branch.
  117. >This is what you’ve trained for back in the jungle.
  118. >You could see every branch and leaf as you continue to sail effortlessly among the trees.
  119. >Dash was not far ahead of you, but due to the dense forest foliage she couldn’t maintain a high speed without the risk of hitting something.
  120. >You slide down the long arm of a tree and use it like a springboard to propel yourself faster.
  121. >The brushing of the twigs and leaves are nonexistent as you skip and jump past your target.
  122. >In that split second as you pass her, you manage to give her a cheeky wink.
  123. >This was your domain.
  124. >No pair of wings will ever take it away from you.
  125. >Continuing along, you could see the faint light filtering out the other side.
  126. >RD must’ve not liked you teasing her; she was right on your tail. “I saw that!” She yells out mischievously.
  127. >It takes you by surprise to see how agile and quick she is, and she manages to catch up to you.
  128. >Both of you, neck and neck with each other.
  129. >Just a bit further.
  130. >Bursting from the threshold, the two of you sail through the air. “I win!” She exclaims.
  131. “No way, I did!”
  132. >Rainbow Dash looks off into the distance, the look on her face contorts into one of shock. “Look out!”
  133. >The next thing you remember is smashing into something and the scent of apples.
  134. >”Oh my gosh, all you alright?”
  135. >”What the hay just happened? RD? Hope? What are y’all doing here?”
  136. >”Just help me with her, AJ.”
  137. >You shake your head and look up into the blue sky.
  138. >A concerned looking AJ and RD look down at you. “Y’all okay? Ya came flying in and broke mah apple cart.”
  139. >Hoisting yourself up, you didn’t feel much pain in your body. But you took one look and saw smashed and splintered boards of wood and a crop of apples reduced to mush.
  140. “I’m fine, but I know I won!”
  141. >RD scoffs. “As if! I was clearly ahead of you.”
  142. >Applejack gives you both a discredited look. “Both y’all came out at the same time. I thought you was a pair of timber wolves coming to attack me.”
  143. >Rainbow groans but she quickly recuperates to her cheery demeanor. “Ya know, that was actually fun. We’ll have to try that again some time.”
  144. >AJ looks you over to see if you’re hurt. “Hey Rainbow, how ‘bout you help us clean up here?” She turns only to see that RD was gone.
  145. >She begins to fume, “Oh, that Rainbow Dash! Always leaving in a rush without thinking.”
  146. >”Sorry! Got stuff to take care of! Need to get stuff ready for tomorrow’s rain storm.” She yells back to AJ as she flew out of sight.
  147. “It’s alright. I can help clean. Didn’t mean to break your stuff.”
  148. >”Y’all sure you can? You hit that cart pretty hard.”
  149. >Standing on your own hooves, you brush it off.
  150. “I’m good, see?”
  151. >For a moment you stand tall and firm, but your legs begin to shake violently and you fall flat on your rear.
  152. >You chuckle humbly.
  153. “Maybe I just need to sit for a few.”
  154. >Applejack was really nice. She helped you back to her house and properly introduced herself and her family.
  155. >”This here is Big Mac, mah brother.” She points to a large red-coloured stallion.
  156. >”And this is Granny Smith.” Sitting in rocking chair snoozing was an old green-coloured mare.
  157. >Your attention is turned to a small mare with a red mane and a large bow. “Finally, this is Applebloom.”
  158. >The little sister seems ecstatic from your presence. “This is so cool, I finally get ta meet’cha!” She begins to hop up and down.
  159. “You’ve heard of me?”
  160. >”Yeah! Anon and Fluttershy were here yesterday and he asked me to personally welcome you.” She beams a wide smile.
  161. >AJ snaps at her. “Applebloom! Don’t go running your mouth about another’s business.”
  162. >The yellow pony frowns a little and mumbles under her breath. Applejack quickly apologizes. “Don’t mind her, she’s just excited is all.”
  163. >This catches your interest.
  164. “What were they doing here yesterday?”
  165. >Applejack grins proudly. “Making things right, that’s what. It might be a small step but it’s certainly in the right direction.”
  166. >She explains to you what she had Fluttershy do yesterday.
  167. >The whole ordeal sounded stressful enough, but it was to get a point across. Something AJ feels that Fluttershy has learned something that day.
  168. “And you’ve truly forgiven her?”
  169. >”I know it’s strange, but after all that we’ve been through I was done feelin’ the way I did. There comes a point when you have to do it more for yourself than anything.”
  170. >Her word struck you as odd.
  171. >Time and time again your mother had told you to be merciless towards the human that murdered your father.
  172. >In your mind he did not deserve to be spared.
  173. >He was to be kept alive to face justice as your mother saw fit.
  174. >Maybe Anon was really onto something here with Fluttershy.
  175. >As you sat at the table in the farmhouse contemplating, Applejack brings you a slice of something.
  176. “What’s this?”
  177. >”Granny Smith’s famous apple pie. It’ll put a spring in your step.”
  178. >Using your fingers, you pick up a chunk of the pastry. You never tried anything like it before.
  179. >Carefully sniffing it, you nose tingles at the smell of spices and sugar.
  180. >You take a nibble.
  181. >Like an explosion setting off, your pupils dilate and your entire concept of taste, texture and flavor have been thrown out the window.
  182. >The piece of pie drops from your grip as a small trail of drool escapes your lips.
  183. >So.... good...
  184. >The grin on AJ’s face only grows bigger. “I think she likes it.”
  185. >As reality sinks back, you grab the whole slice and devour it instantly. You couldn’t get enough of it.
  186. >You literally felt like doing back flips in the house. AJ promptly serves you another piece as you inhale it as quickly as possible.
  187. >With a satisfied gulp you lick your lips.
  188. “I never knew such tasty things existed!”
  189. >”Glad you like it, but if you don’t mind, Big Mac and I got some bucking to do. You’re free to make yourself comfy here. Applebloom will make sure of it.”
  190. >The young mare salutes to her big sister whilst puffing out her chest proudly.
  191. >AppleJack and Big Mac head out to do their work as you sat in the kitchen with Applebloom and a sleepy old pony.
  192. >”Do ya have a sister or a brother?”
  193. >You were preoccupied with your own thoughts to fully pay attention to the question.
  194. “What?”
  195. >”Ya know, someone like you?” She smiles sheepishly.
  196. “No, my mother says I’m one of a kind.”
  197. >Getting up from your chair, you walk over to the kitchen window and glance outside. You could see AJ and Big Mac hard at work out in the fields.
  198. “It must be nice, I imagine; having a brother and a sister. Someone that’s actually related to you...”
  199. >Applebloom stands next to you by the window. “What about that human fellow?”
  200. >You almost burst out laughing at the notion.
  201. “He’s not my father and he’s definitely not related to me in any way.”
  202. > Applebloom looks up to you with childish innocence. “But he’s like your family, ain’t he?”
  203. “But he’s not really...”
  204. >Your words trail off. The thought of your father came to mind.
  205. >This Anon has done a lot for you. Although his behaviour was strange and erratic at times, you could feel something when you were with him.
  206. >Something... familiar.
  207. >As if a part of you feels close to him.
  208. >”You don’t have to be related to be family, ya know. Take mah sister for example, she’s been like a mother to me.”
  209. “But she’s still your sister.”
  210. >”She wasn’t my mom, but she took up that responsibility. My other friends, Sweetie Bell and Scootaloo are like sisters to me. What I’m trying to say is, it’s those who care about you that matter most.”
  211. >Even though she was still young, Applebloom had a good idea of what family meant to her.
  212. >But where does this leave your mother?
  213. >You head outside for some fresh air. The warm sun covers your body as you look to see AJ and Big Mac hard at work bucking the apple trees.
  214. >Applebloom follows close behind you. “I just reckon that you and Anon are close, so maybe he was like a brother to you or something.”
  215. >A spine tingling sensation crawls it way upward through your whole body.
  216. >As if to change the subject, you give a gentle smile to Applebloom.
  217. “Let’s see if AJ needs a hand.”
  218. >You wanted to give your thanks for the hospitality so you offer to help collect some apples.
  219. >AJ wipes the sweat off her brow. “Y’all reckon you can buck these trees? Takes a bit of strength to pull it off properly.”
  220. >If Fluttershy could do it, then it should be easy enough for you.
  221. >You stood next to one of the many trees brimming with red apples and wound up a mighty kick.
  222. >Slamming your hoof into the trunk, it begins to rain fruit all around you. Applebloom jumps up and down excitedly. “I knew she could do it!”
  223. >AJ nods with a smirk. “Reckon she could give Big Mac a run for his money.”
  224. >”Eeyu- Hey!” The red stallion objects.
  225. >Everyone begins to laugh in the spirit of good humour, and you couldn’t help but be swept up as well.
  226. >For the rest of the afternoon you help the Apple family harvest apples from the orchard.
  227. >During that time you would share a laugh here and there as well as stories of your journey here.
  228. >Applebloom continues to grow more infatuated with your tales too.
  229. >By the time harvesting was done, you were exhausted.
  230. >Young Applebloom groans at the prospect of you having to leave for the day.
  231. >If you had to be honest, you felt attached to her as well.
  232. >”Promise you’ll come back, I want you to meet mah other friends!”
  233. “Sounds like a plan, and thanks again for the snack. Very appreciated.”
  234. >AJ smiles warmly. “I’ll fix you up a batch for you to take home next time.”
  235. >Already your mouth was watering.
  236. >You took it easy getting home. Your legs weren’t use to this much running, especially ever since you came here.
  237. >Once you get home, you crash onto the couch and fall asleep, exhausted from your ordeal.
  238. >In the last bit of your recollection, you remember Anon picking you up and carrying you up to bed.
  239. >Again, you felt this odd sensation in your body when he carried you upstairs.
  240. >It wouldn’t be the last time either.
  241.
  242. >You are now Anon.
  243. >A small hand tugs at your arm and you hear a little voice call out to you. “Anon. Wake up or you’re going to miss the show!”
  244. >You groan and rub the sleep out of your eyes. Your little sister stands at the side of your bed, all cuddled up in her blanket.
  245. >Her long messy bed head clumps over part of her face.
  246. “Yeah yeah.... I’m awake. Go get yourself some breakfast...”
  247. >You hear her little feet thump across the bedroom floor as she leaves the room. “I already turned on the TV.” She cries out.
  248. >With a stretch and a yawn, you slip on your shirt, pants and some slippers.
  249. >Annette was really adamant about you watching this cartoon with her.
  250. >You knew of the show My Little Pony, but you didn’t think it would get revamped and turned into an incredibly popular show.
  251. >To be honest, it wasn’t that bad.
  252. >You saunter to the small living room and sit next to your sister. A bowl filled with cereal sits on her lap as she spoons in big mouthfuls while keeping her eyes trained on the television.
  253. >Sure enough, the music starts up and you listen to that theme song for the umpteenth time.
  254. >Even you had to admit this was a cute show, not like some of the other ‘cutesy wootsey’ garbage they have nowadays.
  255. >As your sister watches the show in silence. you begin to fall asleep again.
  256. >With a sudden jerk, you wake up and find yourself in bed.
  257. >You’re still in pony land.
  258. >Nothing has changed.
  259. >With an exasperated sigh, you get up.
  260. >Today you and Fluttershy would talk to Rainbow Dash.
  261. >You knew she had a stubborn streak as mean as Applejack, but whatever she might have planned for Fluttershy you’re certain she will face it head on.
  262. >Unlike the previous days, Hope was still in bed. Poor thing was still tuckered out.
  263. >It’s good that she’s been out and trying to have fun, at least that’s what you hope she was doing. You leave a note for her this time telling her where you plan on going.
  264. >Heading outside after eating some breakfast, you notice the sky had a bit of overcast and the smell of rain was prevalent.
  265. >The activity was still going on around Fluttershys house. She was tending to all the animals and giving them some food.
  266. >”Hello Anon.” She greets you with her usual demeanor.
  267. “Ready to go see Rainbow Dash?”
  268. >She lands in front of you and digs her hoof carelessly into the dirt. “I was thinking maybe we could spend the day tending to the animals together.” She sheepishly smiles at you.
  269. >Red lights go off in your mind.
  270. >This crazy pony could not already be interested in you.
  271. “I don’t have time for that today. Either come with me to see Rainbow Dash or I take you back to the lake for another bath.”
  272. >She gives you a frightful look and that instantly satisfies you. “I’m sorry, it’s just that I thought we could do something together.”
  273. “I don’t know what gave you that idea. I’m just here to help you.”
  274. >”It’s just that, you seem sad most of the time. Is there something wrong, Anon?”
  275. “Yeah, you’re stalling and I don’t have time for this. Now let’s get going.”
  276. >She looks down to the ground in defeat. “Okay...”
  277. >Last thing you need is something else attached to you.
  278. >The walk to Ponyville was rather quiet.
  279. >Your mind was mostly occupied thinking about what RD would have in store for Fluttershy. That’s if she had anything planned at all.
  280. >Eventually you catch sight of a multicoloured streak flying above.
  281. “Rainbow Dash!”
  282. >Almost stopping dead in her flight path, she traces back and swoops down towards you.
  283. >”Thought I heard somepony call my name. What’s up?” The blue pegasus hovers in front of you.
  284. “I’m sorry if you’re busy with something, but I need you to patch things up with Fluttershy.”
  285. >Just like the others, she glares at the timid pony. “What’s there to patch up? What she did is uncool, and I’m afraid she’s going to have to learn to live with it.”
  286. “Listen here, skittles. Fluttershy has already been living with it for 3 years now. She’s already done something for AJ and Rarity. Try to look into your heart and forgive.”
  287. >She begins to look more annoyed than anything else. “I don’t think there’s anything she can do that-“
  288. “Then consider that your world is in danger. You’re not going to give it up just because you can’t forgive. We need to learn to move past this.”
  289. >As if moved by your words, RD begins to silently mouth the words ‘give up’.
  290. >Looking up and around, she seems to have an idea on what to do with Fluttershy. “Alright, let’s see if she has what it takes.”
  291. >The shy pegasus steps forward, but is still hesitant in her tone. “I’m ready....”
  292. >RD points to the sky out to the west. “We got more clouds coming in for a rain storm, but what I want you to do is gather them up into one that is much bigger.”
  293. >”H-how big?”
  294. >”Big enough to make a supercell. Then you’re going to push it over to the EverFree forest and make it rain, but that requires you to kick start it from the inside. And you know what that means?”
  295. >You could already hear Fluttershy shaking in her figurative boots. “L-lightning?”
  296. >”And lots of it. So what do ya say?” Rainbow Dash waits for an answer.
  297. “Hold on a sec, what’s this got to do with forgiving her? It sounds like you want Fluttershy to get killed or something.”
  298. >RD scoffs at your accusation. “She’s a pegasus. She has some weather controlling abilities like any other. She’s in no danger, and I wouldn’t stoop that low, Anon.”
  299. >You still had a bad feeling about this. You turn to Fluttershy.
  300. “Don’t worry, we’ll jus-“
  301. >She wasn’t there.
  302. >You look around, your attention turning to the sky.
  303. >Fluttershy is already flying away to gather the clouds.
  304. >Gritting your teeth, you mutter.
  305. “Goddammit...”
  306. >RD looks up to the sky as she hovers next to you.
  307. >That’s all you could do at this point; watch as Fluttershy completes this test at the mercy of a storm’s wrath.
  308.
  309. >You are now Fluttershy.
  310. >As the ground descends further below you, a sense of dread fills you.
  311. >To say thunderstorms made you scared was an understatement.
  312. >But you had to do it.
  313. >All these tasks given to you had a purpose behind them, and you knew Rainbow Dash wouldn’t put you in harm’s way.
  314. >The clouds continue to gently drift through the sky towards Ponyville as you begin to gather the ones in closest proximity.
  315. >It wasn’t hard in the beginning.
  316. >Bigger and bigger the storm grew.
  317. >The hardest part was keeping it away from Ponyville for the time while you continue to corral more clouds. The wind wanted to carry it towards the town, but you had to bring it to the EverFree Forest.
  318. >Flying like crazy back and forth, your wings start to tire out quickly.
  319. >But you couldn’t quit now.
  320. >Already the rumble within could be heard.
  321. >You freeze in terror at the mere sound and your wings almost seize up.
  322. >One glance to the ground below and you could see Anon and RD were still standing there looking up.
  323. >Anon has already been with you this far. You had to continue no matter what.
  324. >The winds begin to pick and start to push the supercell towards Ponyville.
  325. >Your heart jumps into your throat as you zip through the sky and put yourself in front of the storm. You flap your wings furiously as you slowly bring the cloud to a halt, but the strong winds continue to push harder.
  326. >The thunder within the cloud continues to growl fiercely. If you didn’t let it rain soon, it would literally burst and flood Ponyville.
  327. >With all the strength your wings can muster, you begin to nudge the cloud slowly but surely towards the forsaken forest.
  328. >Over and over you repeat to yourself in a harsh whisper.
  329. “Don’t give up... Don’t stop now...”
  330. >A sudden updraft takes you by surprise as you’re sent hurtling upwards in a tumble.
  331. >Desperately, you try to regain balance, but another strong gale pushes you into the supercell.
  332. >Super saturated moisture in the cloud starts to dampen your fur and wings as flashes of lightning spark all around you.
  333. >Your heart beats faster as you try to get back in control.
  334. >A loud crash of thunder sounds off close by.
  335. >Like a bat out of hell, you manage to find your equilibrium and fly out of the storm.
  336. >Soaked to the bone and freezing, you continue to push the storm onwards.
  337. >Once you get closer to the forest, the strong winds that kept pushing you towards Ponyville start to fade away.
  338. >It was time for the last step; kickstart the storm from the inside.
  339. >You vaguely remember the process.
  340. >But your mind starts to fill with ‘what ifs’ and scenarios of the worst outcomes.
  341. >As your stomach turns, you relive that moment when Anon brought you to the lake.
  342. >You were scared.
  343. >He made you face your demons.
  344. >But he believes in you.
  345. >. . .
  346. >You had to fix this.
  347. >And if Anon didn’t give up on you then, there’s no reason you should give up on yourself now.
  348. >Feeling a resolve in your spirit, you dive headstrong into the supercell.
  349. >Throughout the black wet cloud, thunder and flashes of lightning become more intense.
  350. >Deep within the centre of the storm is where you had to kick start it.
  351. >But if you weren’t careful...
  352. >The thoughts were terrifying, but still you had to do it.
  353. >The darkness envelopes you as you approach the eye of the storm.
  354. >A brilliant white light invades your vision followed by the loud crash of thunder.
  355. >Pain shoots through part of your body.
  356. >You fade out of consciousness.
  357. >In and out you drift through your awareness.
  358. >The sound of wind rushes past your ears as the ground below approaches faster.
  359. >A pain shoots through your body, as if it was no longer in your control.
  360. >You fade out again.
  361. >. . .
  362. >A voice is heard in the distance. “Fluttershy!”
  363. >Something takes a hold of you.
  364. >You open your eyes again and find yourself on the ground.
  365. >There’s a faint image of Anon looking down at you, his face stricken with fear.
  366. >With a cough, you manage to open your eyes and look in the distance to see the storm hanging over the EverFree Forest.
  367. >”Fluttershy... Thank God...” Anon holds you close. Rainbow Dash was standing close by looking down at you.
  368. >Without any regard for your own health, you weakly ask her.
  369. “The storm... Did I...?”
  370. >Rainbow places a hoof on yours and smiles with tears in her eyes. “You didn’t give up... That’s the Fluttershy I know...”
  371. >Anon turns hostile on RD. “You said she wouldn’t get hurt! What the hell were you thinking?”
  372. >”Hey, it could’ve been a lot worse! She probably managed to avoid any serious lightning strikes.” She protests.
  373. >”Well I hope it was worth it, what if she’s crippled for the rest of her life?” He continues to argue.
  374. >Once you collect enough of your senses, you wiggle in Anon’s grasp.
  375. >“You shouldn’t move, just relax.”
  376. “I actually feel fine, really I do...”
  377. >He didn’t look convinced, but he eases you down onto the grass below and you slowly get up on your hooves.
  378. >With a stretch of your wings, you check your condition, but you quickly collapse to the ground.
  379. >Anon catches you quickly in his arms. “Let’s get you home and rest up.” He turns his gaze to RD. “I think you have something you might want to say to Fluttershy?”
  380. >Rainbow hovers in front of you. You could see the genuine look of remorse in her eyes and the sincerity in her tone. “Fluttershy, you were one of my best friends growing up. Everypony here is, and even though Pinkie sometimes got on my nerves, she did have something I liked about her.”
  381. >She turns away with a sniff as she looks up to the sky. “She never gave up. Pinkie did whatever it took to make somepony happy. I didn’t mean for you to get hurt, but I hope we both come out of this stronger. If not for our friendship then for our world and everything else that matters.”
  382. >You could feel something stir inside you.
  383. “You mean...?”
  384. >RD turns to face you again. “I’m ready to move on, Fluttershy. I hope you are too, because we can face this threat together as friends.”
  385. >You feel tears well up in your eyes as RD moves in for hug.
  386. >But as quickly as she did, Anon begins to walk away. The last thing you remember is seeing Hope approaching the both of you.
  387. >“Come on, you need to rest up. I’ll have Hope watch over you.”
  388. >It was all coming together.
  389. >Although successful, it was little more than a moment of bliss in the face of what’s to come.
  390. >But with Anon, you know you just might have a chance.
  391.
  392. >You are now Hope.
  393. >Sleeping in wasn’t a bad idea today.
  394. >You shuffle under your warm covers and inhale the scent of fresh linens.
  395. >Beds were never this comfy when you were growing up.
  396. >By sleeping with your mother, you ensured that both of you would keep warm at night.
  397. >Dozing in and out of sleep, you almost didn’t hear Anon open the bedroom door. He didn’t even bother to wake you up.
  398. >A part of you felt content that he didn’t, but you knew that eventually you’d have to get up.
  399. >A while later once Anon left, you took your time to wash up and get ready to tackle another day.
  400. >Rainbow Dash was fun and all and her words still stuck to you.
  401. >Live by each other’s happiness.
  402. >Applejack has a wonderful family; it almost made you feel furious that you couldn’t have one as well.
  403. >But Applebloom did offer a thought-provoking statement about your relationship with Anon.
  404. >What is family?
  405. >You took a shower as well.
  406. >The mechanics of it mystified you, but it didn’t make it any less enjoyable.
  407. >Hot steamy water and wonderful-smelling soap.
  408. >After you had your morning preparations complete, you figure today would be as good day as any to go see Rarity.
  409. >As you leave the house, you notice dark clouds looming over Ponyville.
  410. >No question that it was going to rain.
  411. >No sooner did you pick up the pace then you felt the wind start to blow harder.
  412. >The irrefutable smell of rain being carried by the breeze hits your nose.
  413. >You could see the storm cloud grow bigger by the second.
  414. >Rarity’s house was supposed to a peculiar-looking home and it should be somewhere not too far away.
  415. >As if you were tackled, a plow wind almost catches you off guard but your footing remains sturdy.
  416. >Rain begins to spit down from the sky as you hurry along to find Rarity’s shop.
  417. >Shielding your eyes from wind and dust, you watch as other ponies in the street hurry inside to take shelter from the oncoming storm.
  418. >The loud crashing of thunder makes you jump.
  419. >Cold rain starts to drop from the sky as the wind continues to pick up.
  420. >Quickly, you find yourself running down the street until you catch a glimpse of Rarity’s Boutique Shop.
  421. >A white unicorn pops her head out of the front door and waves you in. “Oh, do come in. This storm is taking a nasty turn as it were.”
  422. >You hurry through the threshold as Rarity closes the door shut. Instinctively, you whip your hair around to shake off the water.
  423. >”Oh do mind where you do that, darling.”
  424. >You freeze in the middle of your action and quickly regain your composure, albeit with a nervous chuckle for your lack of thought.
  425. “Sorry about that.”
  426. >Rarity gives you a smile that could only be described as sincere. “It’s quite alright dear, but just look at your mane!”
  427. “My hair?”
  428. >It wasn’t exactly pretty considering you were just in a storm.
  429. >Before you could even react, she’s pushing you across the floor and into a chair.
  430. >In a flurry of magic and other weird tools, she brushes and grooms your hair back to its former shape, even a bit shinier than before.
  431. >”Viola! That looks much better, don’t you think?” She asks as if to squeeze a compliment from you.
  432. “It’s very nice, thank you.”
  433. >”Oh, listen to me babble on. You must be freezing, come in and do have something hot to drink.”
  434. >Almost in a stunned silence, the unicorn pushes you again into the kitchen where she brews you up a cup of hot tea.
  435. >One sip and you were in love with it. Now if you only had another slice of apple pie to go with it.
  436. >Rarity constantly makes sure that you’re comfortable, and you keep assuring her that you are.
  437. >It was a little unnerving being waited on, if you had to be honest with yourself.
  438. >Rarity hasn’t even noticed yet how you lost track of what you were saying.
  439. >You look at her mouth as she continues to talk, almost as if you were in a trance from her voice.
  440. >”And what about you, dear?” She finally stops.
  441. >Caught off guard by her sudden question, you mumble an answer in hopes that it’s the right one.
  442. “Oh uh, yes...”
  443. >Taking another sip of your tea, you take a look at your surroundings. You never saw such lavish clothing all in one place.
  444. >High end society was alien indeed.
  445. >It never occurred to you why ponies would need so much stuff when nature provides so much for them already.
  446. >A teapot floats in front of you. “Would you like more tea?” Rarity asks politely.
  447. >You shake your head to decline the offer.
  448. >”What brings you to my humble little shop?”
  449. >You set the cup of tea down and fold your hands in your lap.
  450. “I was hoping you could tell me whatever you knew about my father.”
  451. >Rarity’s eyes open slightly but soften right away. “Well of course, what did you want to know? I’ll try my best to tell you everything I can.”
  452. >Rain starts to pelt the glass window as the storm builds up.
  453. “What was he like before and after the whole incident with Pinkie?”
  454. >Rarity sets down her cup and sighs. “Well... he was an odd fellow. We had never seen anything like him before and he was more than welcome to stay. But he was set on getting back home, which was understandable. After his run-in with your... mother.” She clears her throat briefly.
  455. >”He was quiet after that. On a few occasions he came to me for some clothing, but he didn’t speak much. But when he began to warm up to Pinkie, you should have seen it for yourself.” Rarity almost melts into mush from this talk about love.
  456. “When my father left, why did he want to make others happy? I know he did it in memory of Pinkie, but I don’t really understand...”
  457. >She smiles warmly. “Love and grief can make one do strange things, sweetheart. Your father probably felt it was the right thing to do.”
  458. “Did it come naturally to him?”
  459. >Rarity looks slightly confused at the question. “Well... I assume it did. Why do you ask?”
  460. >Shuffling in your seat, you pause for a moment thinking carefully how you want to word your thoughts.
  461. “It’s just, knowing what my father did, I feel as though I should do the same; make others happy.”
  462. >You’re hesitant to tell her about the dream.
  463. >Rarity lifts up a cup with her magic and takes a sip. “Very admirable. Do you feel that’s what you really desire deep down or is it because you think it’s the right thing to do?”
  464. >Again you pause in contemplative thought.
  465. >Then it comes to you.
  466. “Both.”
  467. >Rarity looks at you with intrigue as she brings her gaze down to the floor in a somber fashion.
  468. >She giggles quietly to herself. “Just like Pinkie Pie, always wanting to do everything.”
  469. >You didn’t catch what she said.
  470. “Beg your pardon?”
  471. >”Oh don’t mind me, but do you mind if I ask a question? Feel free to ignore it if you must.”
  472. >You nod and wait for her to ask.
  473. >Rarity looks a bit uneasy, “When you do go back to your mother with Anon, what then?”
  474. >A troubling question indeed; one that’s been brewing in your mind for over a week now.
  475. >She’s quick to try and wipe away the question. “I know it’s a personal question and if it’s too much to think about now, then please don’t feel-“
  476. >You interrupt her.
  477. “It’s okay.”
  478. >Rarity is taken back by your willingness to talk.
  479. >With her you felt as if she was really wise, she seems to carry herself around in higher regards than most others.
  480. “I really don’t know. Part of me wants to confront her, but...”
  481. >You clench onto your cup of tea harder.
  482. “I just...”
  483. >Rarity walks over to a nearby window and glances out at the storm as it continues to brew. “Lyra was always such a quiet pony before this whole mess. i wish I could say what went wrong.”
  484. >You sought for words to speak, but already within your mind you were thinking of different scenarios of what would happen if you chose to confront your mother.
  485. >”I know you and Anon will do what needs to be done to ensure everypony comes out of this safe.” She simply smiles.
  486. >Rarity walks over to a small closet and swings the door open with her magic. Out from within sails a dark cloak.
  487. >”Listen to me ramble on. I’ve been working on this for you.” The dark cloth hovers next to you.
  488. >”Be a dear and stand up. I want to make sure this fits properly.”
  489. >You were still in a deep state of thought and almost lurch out of your chair in a zombie-like state before realizing what was going on.
  490. >With a quick fasten, you see that a long dark cape flowed like waves on the ground around your feet.
  491. >It was just like your old one, but lighter in weight.
  492. >The storm outside begins to slowly roll away into the distance.
  493. >”And because I like to think ahead.”
  494. >Her magic envelopes a part of the cape and it comes off with a snap. “Snap on buttons incase your cape gets caught on anything.”
  495. >Instantly you recall the times when Anon snagged you by the length of your cloak.
  496. >The cape attaches back on with a quick snap, but the overall design made it look seamless.
  497. “I... this is...”
  498. >You took one look at her and could feel the sincerity behind it.
  499. “Thank you, this is very nice.”
  500. >You grab a handful of the material to admire the velvety texture.
  501. >“I can make all kinds of clothes for you dear, you seem to be the type that prefer clothing rather than going... au naturale.”
  502. >You didn’t quite get what she meant but you smile and chuckle.
  503. >You hear a loud crash of thunder as it rattles the house violently. Rarity jumps in surprise but you didn’t mind the sudden sound.
  504. >The storms you experienced in the other world before you came to Equestria were more severe than this.
  505. >Yet you get this strange feeling that something happened.
  506. >You walk over to the window and notice that the rain has stopped.
  507. >Your ears twitch as you catch a voice from outside yelling.
  508. >It was Anon...
  509. >He was calling for Fluttershy.
  510. >Without hesitation, you run outside and again you hear his voice.
  511. >Before Rarity could even ask what was wrong, you ran off to look for Anon.
  512. >High above in the thunderstorm, you see something falling from the sky.
  513. >A streak of rainbow colours flies through the sky and intercepts the falling object.
  514. >Your heart races faster as you continue your way to the edge of Ponyville. There you see Anon holding Fluttershy in his arms walking towards you.
  515. “What happened?”
  516. >”Let’s get her home, I’ll explain on the way.”
  517. >Even though you still had every reason to not like Fluttershy, even seeing her in this state made you feel sorry for her.
  518. >When Anon asks you to watch over her for the next day or two, you felt extremely uncomfortable.
  519. >This would probably end poorly.
  520.
  521. >You are Anon.
  522. >And this is the final step.
  523. >This could very well be the moment that will either make or break the fate of Equestria and everything you’ve worked for.
  524. >It was time to talk to Twilight Sparkle.
  525. >After yesterday’s excursion, it was best that Fluttershy stayed home to rest.
  526. >You even asked Hope to stay and watch over her.
  527. >It was almost afternoon by the time you muster the courage to go and see Twilight.
  528. >As long as you stay in control, she should be more than reasonable.
  529. >Fluttershy has been through so much and if Twilight can’t see that, then this will only end in a disaster.
  530. >Like yesterday, there was overcast.
  531. >The air carried a bitter chill with it as well.
  532. >Your stomach already begins to turn.
  533. >Days like these always remind you of your sister and that day.
  534. >You had to speak to Lyra.
  535. >It chewed away at you that she was responsible for the death of your little sister.
  536. >There was no other way she could’ve gotten that same necklace and given it to Hope.
  537. >With sudden realization, your walk had already turned into a slow meander without direction.
  538. >You could already feel your nerves getting all worked up.
  539. >Deep inside, you felt this urge; this uncontrollable itch to put it away.
  540. >Even though a part of you admits you shouldn’t, your body has become to use to it.
  541. >You need alcohol.
  542. >It felt as though you couldn’t survive without it.
  543. >Another chilly gust of wind stirs around you.
  544. >A hauntingly familiar sensation crawls up your spine. Almost as if you’re back at Pinkie’s grave.
  545. >With a single-track mind, you hurry down the dirt path to Ponyville.
  546. >Just the simple numbing agent of alcohol.
  547. >A small drink.
  548. >That’s all you need.
  549. >Calm your nerves and help you stomach what’s to come.
  550. >You spot the establishment soon enough and almost stumble as you haphazardly push your way in.
  551. >The few patrons in the bar look up listlessly, immediately turning their gazes back down to their own drinks and sorrows.
  552. >Regaining your composure, you lick your lips in anticipation as you hurry across the bar floor to the counter.
  553. >”What’ll it be?” The bartender asks in a gruff voice.
  554. “Scotch please. On the rocks.”
  555. >Without another word, the stallion whips out a bottle, a cup with some ice and pours you the concoction you desire.
  556. >You bring up the glass to your lips and down the booze quickly.
  557. “Another...”
  558. >With no refusal on his end, he pours more into your glass. Again you drink it down just hoping it will kick in soon.
  559. >This time you actually stop for a moment. Eyes closed, you take several deep breaths.
  560. >”You alright there, bub?” The bartender asks.
  561. “Yeah I’m just... frazzled.”
  562. >”Do you need another drink?”
  563. “Sure, but hey...”
  564. >He looks up to you waiting for your command.
  565. >You know you shouldn’t, but it was already too late to stop yourself.
  566. “Just leave the bottle. Put it on Celestia’s tab.”
  567. >The stallion shrugs. “Alright then. The Princess is mighty generous paying for your expenses.”
  568. >You instantly grab the bottle and swallow mouthfuls of the scotch.
  569. >Slowly, you could feel the effect take over your senses.
  570. >The shaking and nervousness within your body begins to subside as you take another drink and wipe your mouth.
  571. >Now you feel better.
  572. >One bottle turned to two, then three…
  573. >You lost count.
  574. >It was a wonder that you could even function at this point.
  575. >It was best to hurry and see Twilight now rather than wait too long.
  576. >With a stagger to your step, you walk out of the bar with the bottle.
  577. >Some of the patrons shake their head in disappointment as they watch you leave.
  578. >Already your head begins to spin.
  579. >Time for another swig. Hopefully you can finish this bottle before you reach Twilight’s house.
  580. >The humid cold air penetrates through your clothing, but it felt like nothing more than a slight draft.
  581. >As you continue up the path, you could see a light mist begin to form.
  582. >A light rain starts to sprinkle from the sky above.
  583. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nksp7zjrYE
  584. >With reckless abandon, you continue to chug more and more alcohol from the bottle. You mutter and curse under your breath.
  585. >You start to feel that all-too-familiar seething hatred.
  586. >Hatred at yourself.
  587. >Anger at your failure.
  588. >Why did this have to happen?
  589. >What did you do wrong?
  590. “Go fuck yourself...”
  591. >You mutter but follow it with a snicker.
  592. >In a knee-jerk reaction, you sock yourself in the face.
  593. >You fall onto the dirt path below and drop your bottle of alcohol.
  594. >It’s your fault. . .
  595. >Your little sister would still be alive if you were there.
  596. >The self hatred becomes relentless in your mind. A constant reminder of how pathetic and worthless you are.
  597. “Shut up...”
  598. >No matter how much you try to argue, that little voice kept tormenting you with ‘what ifs’ and ‘buts’.
  599. >You struggle to get up, but your arms keep giving out.
  600. “Sh-shut up... fucker... I-I...”
  601. >The words finally begin to take their toll on your tormented soul.
  602. >You couldn’t take it anymore.
  603. >Even with all this talk of forgiveness, it felt as though you were past that point.
  604. >Everything you did for her; meaningless.
  605. >A life of abuse and she was the first to go.
  606. >You slam your fist into the ground and let out an angry cry into the cold air.
  607. >The rain begins to fall a bit harder.
  608. >On your hands and knees you stare at the ground.
  609. >For the first time, you felt a burning sensation in your eyes as your lips tremble.
  610. >You choke on your sadness.
  611. >It was as if you had forgotten how to cry.
  612. “I’m sorry....”
  613. >The cold rain begins to drown out all other sounds.
  614. >Squeezing your eyes shut, you bring your hands up to your face.
  615. >Through the wind and rain you hear a sound; footsteps on the gravel path approaching closer.
  616. >You felt someone place a hand on your back.
  617. >Turning your gaze, you look to see a little girl standing before you.
  618. >Your heart instantly sinks.
  619. >Dressed in the same clothes as the day she went missing, there stood your sister.
  620. >”What’s wrong Anon? Why are you crying?” She asked tenderly.
  621. >This couldn’t be real.
  622. >And yet, here she was.
  623. “Annette... I...”
  624. >You were lost for words. You could only manage a hoarse whisper as you felt the tears well up in your eyes.
  625. “Please tell me you’re real....”
  626. >You place a shaking hand on her warm soft cheek. She holds your hand in place with hers.
  627. >She softly smiles at you, but could also see the mess you’re in.
  628. >Kneeling upright, you gently pull her in closer as she wraps her small arms around your neck.
  629. “I’m so sorry...”
  630. >You could feel the hot tears streaming down your cold cheeks. You tighten your grasp on your sister.
  631. “I tried... I really did...”
  632. >Stifling back your tears and sadness, you feel her leave your embrace as she stands in front of you again.
  633. >Even in the rain, she somehow remains bone-dry.
  634. >This only confirms your suspicion that she wasn’t real.
  635. >”I miss my big brother.” She glances down at the bottle of scotch lying next to you.
  636. >What a pitiful sight you must be.
  637. >A flood of anguish and misery collapse in as you fall back down on your hands and knees.
  638. “I... I wasn’t there for you...”
  639. >You slam your fist into the ground and look back to her, your voice growing weaker.
  640. >It was too much.
  641. >Whatever this is, a departed spirit or a cruel manifestation of your drunkenness, you cry out in grief.
  642. “I can’t... I can’t go on... I can’t do it anymore.”
  643. >”Why do you fight it?”
  644. >You look up to her, your face contorted with grief.
  645. “If I let you go, then I’ve got nothing....”
  646. >Instantly, she kneels down next to you and gently lifts your head to look her in the eyes.
  647. >With that same smile, she whispers to you. “Don’t be afraid...”
  648. >In your mind, you recall when she first said those words to you.
  649. >The first night you ran away from home with her. You sat in the window looking down the street fearing your father would show up.
  650. >Annette knew when you were troubled by something. She knew you were scared.
  651. >But you felt something else.
  652. >You look her in the eyes and without even speaking, you feel as though she wants you to go on.
  653. >To keep fighting.
  654. >To make peace within yourself.
  655. >If not for her, then just you.
  656. >She still loves you and doesn’t want to see her big brother go on like this.
  657. >As if the pieces begin to fall together, you feel this sense of.... comfort.
  658. >In your heart and soul it felt as though everything was alright. Maybe the time to let go of these feelings was now...
  659. >“Forgiveness is not just for others, but ourselves. ”
  660. >She takes a step back away from your reach. The tears start to flow again as you begin to accept the feelings that have been brewing in your tormented soul.
  661. “Wait.”
  662. >Even though it wasn’t real, you still wanted her to stay for a while longer.
  663. >”I know you’ll see this through...” Her voice becomes faint.
  664. >The mist swirls and thickens as she continues to back away.
  665. “Don’t leave me!”
  666. >You stumble to get back on your feet but it was too late.
  667. >Annette was gone.
  668. >The mist clears away and you’re left by your forlorn self once more.
  669. >The rain falls softly on your weary face, as if to hide a lonely tear.
  670. >For the longest time you stood there.
  671. >The touch, smell and warmth were so real. Yet it was all.... an illusion? Or a dream?
  672. >You take a few steps before your foot bumps into something.
  673. >It was that scotch you bought earlier.
  674. >As you recall the things your sister said, you give the bottle a scornful look and throw it as hard as possible into the forest nearby.
  675. >Unfortunately you were still tipsy and almost fall back down to the ground.
  676. >You had to see Twilight.
  677. >The sorrow still resides within you, but now a sense of purpose has been kicked into high gear.
  678. >Whether it was a sign or a drunken hallucination, you’re glad it happened.
  679. >Faltering down the path, you manage to find your way to Twilight’s house just as the clouds were clearing up. You fix up your appearance with a few adjustments and take a deep breath.
  680. >If you’re not mistaken, Twilight should be expecting you. With a knock on the door, it opens up immediately. There stood that magical lavender pony.
  681. >The final piece of the puzzle.
  682. >”Hello Anon. Did something hold you up?” She asks inquisitively.
  683. “Yeah, the weather got a little funky back there.”
  684. >You do your best to keep yourself together in her presence. She peers past you and looks up into the sky. “It was only a little cloudy.”
  685. “It started to rain pretty hard back there. Crazy weather, ya know?”
  686. >Her eyes scan you for any signs that you were possibly lying, or for something else. “So you’re here o talk to me about something?”
  687. “Yes, may I come in?”
  688. >She steps to the side as you duck your head to make way into the household.
  689. >Once inside, you tumble towards the couch and sprawled out across the cushions. Your head still felt as though you were spinning in circles.
  690. >As long as you keep your head you’ll be fine.
  691. >”I can only assume that you’re here for one particular reason?” She takes a seat adjacent to you.
  692. >No point in beating around the bush with her.
  693. “Fluttershy has shown a lot of improvement. I’ve seen it and so have the others.”
  694. >”I’m well aware of what the two of you have been doing, and I’m glad to see you’re committed to helping her, but I can’t agree in that I feel the same way as they do.”
  695. >A sigh escapes your lips as you rub your forehead.
  696. “Twilight, I know it’s heavy. No one wanted it to happen, but it did.”
  697. >”Then something needs to be done about it. Fluttershy can’t get away from this scot-free.”
  698. “We don’t have all the time in the world for her to serve a life sentence just so you can feel some sense of closure. I know you haven’t forgotten about this ‘Lyra’ issue.”
  699. >Twilight glares at you as if you were insulting her intelligence. “No I haven’t, but isn’t what I want important?”
  700. “Then have Fluttershy clean your bookshelves or some shit, I don’t care. The others got her to do something meaningful.”
  701. >”The others may be happy with her doing their chores, but that isn’t going to fly with me.” She retorts.
  702. “That’s not true and you know it. They wouldn’t have forgiven her if they didn’t believe she learned something. Fluttershy mourns the death of Pinkie. She sincerely regrets what happened.”
  703. >”I’m sorry Anon, but it’s not enough.” Her resolute attitude is still firm.
  704. >You almost leap out of your chair in anger. Here you thought AJ was suppose to be the most stubborn pony.
  705. “So that’s it? Doom Equestria and everything else because you can’t let go?”
  706. >”You make it sound like I can just let it go? You talk big about forgiveness but you can’t seem to practice what you preach.”
  707. >You shoot an icy-fierce look at her.
  708. “What’s that suppose to mean?”
  709. >”You’re drunk, Anon. I could smell it on you the moment you came in. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out you’re deeply disturbed.” She slams her hoof on the small table.
  710. >This was none of her God damn business.
  711. “You better watch it, Twilight. At least I’m trying to make things right while you sit on your ass all day brooding about your loss.”
  712. >”And what have you done about yours?” Her tone was becoming more hostile.
  713. >Clenching your fists, you turn around and drive one of them into a nearby wall.
  714. “Shut the fuck up!”
  715. >Twilight is taken back by your outburst, but she was still persistent in getting under your skin. “It’s not easy like you say, is it?”
  716. “I’ve faced my demons already. Don’t make this about me when it’s you that needs to see the bigger picture. Bring Fluttershy here.”
  717. >She looks at you perplexingly. “Do what now?”
  718. >Did you have to spell out everything for her?
  719. “Teleport here with your magic, we’re solving this right now!”
  720. >She growls back at you. “Fine!”
  721. >Being driven by anger more than logic, she closes her eyes and concentrates as her horn begins to glow.
  722. >A bright flash consumes the room and right smack-dab in the middle was Fluttershy lying in a heap. She was still exhausted as she opens her eyes weakly, seemingly unaware of what just happened.
  723. >”W-where am I?”
  724. >Twilight looks down at her then back to you with. “There. Now what?”
  725. “Now you two will have a nice chat and patch things up.”
  726. >”There’s nothing to ‘patch up’, Anon. She has to be held accountable for what she’s done.”
  727. >She wants justice?
  728. >You’ll show her what that means.
  729. >Fluttershy slowly comes to as you speak through clenched teeth.
  730. ”Okay, you win. Let me show you how we do things back home.”
  731. >You walk to the other side of the room where a bunch of testing equipment is set up.
  732. >Grabbing an empty glass test bottle, you bring it back over to where Fluttershy is.
  733. >You grab the small yellow pegasus by her mane and hoist her into the air with ease. She yelps in pain.
  734. >Twilight’s face contorts with shock, “What are you doing?”
  735. “You want justice? Then this will be it. Then maybe you can feel that closure you want.”
  736. >With a quick swing you smash the glass bottle against the wall, producing a sharp jagged weapon.
  737. >Dropping Fluttershy to the ground, you pin her under your knee. Her tiny body squirms in futility to get you off. “Anon... why are you...doing this?” She manages to wheeze.
  738. >If this is what it takes, then you’ll do it.
  739. >You poise the glass shard above your head and bring it down onto Fluttershy.
  740. >Fluttershy braces for what was to come.
  741. >Something stops your hand from completing the task.
  742. >A sense of relief washes over you.
  743. >Sure enough, you look over to see Twilight’s horn glowing as her hand envelopes your entire arm.
  744. >”That’s enough! Get off her right now.”
  745. >But you couldn’t stop now.
  746. “Isn’t this what you wanted? Didn’t you say she should face justice?!”
  747. >You start to push down with more force to the point where even Twilight was struggling to hold you back.
  748. >Fluttershy continues to look on in horror as the glass edges closer to her, inch by inch.
  749. >Twilight strains all her concentration to envelope your arm and hold you off. “Not like this... Now get off her...”
  750. “Make me!”
  751. >Like an old-school football player, she tackles you with surprising force and manages to immobilize you entirely with her magic.
  752. >The last thing you remember was bright coloured lights burning your retinas.
  753. >As if you were watching a slideshow, moments from your past come into view.
  754. >From the day you first met your baby sister in the hospital to the day you came to Equestria.
  755. >All the emotions that were associated with them as well.
  756. >Pain and misery from the abuse.
  757. >Relief when you took your sister to live with you elsewhere.
  758. >Utter devastation and loss when you found out she went missing.
  759. >Another set of images come into view.
  760. >Imagery of Twilight as a filly growing up.
  761. >Right up to the time when she first met Pinkie in Ponyville.
  762. >Vagueness was followed by reassurance.
  763. >Realization became a spark.
  764. >Friendship.
  765. >Laughter.
  766. >Then you could see Anon, the one that came before.
  767. >Awe and wonder.
  768. >As it unfolds in your mind, you could see and feel the events that led up to Anon’s death.
  769. >You could hear Twilight yelling. "You promised me! You promised this wouldn't happen!" But all she could do was watch a friend die before her very eyes.
  770. >She failed him.
  771. >Everything she tried to do was in vain.
  772. >Regret.
  773. >Misery.
  774. >Self hatred.
  775. >. . .
  776. >It was starting to make sense now.
  777. >As you came to, you open your eyes to the sight of Fluttershy looking down at you.
  778. >A groan escapes your lips as you lean up. There beside you was Twilight slowly waking up as well.
  779. “What did you do to me?”
  780. >The lavender pony shakes her head. “I... I’m not sure. I tried to get you off Fluttershy and then my magic went...”
  781. >Her pupils shrink as she came to a realization. “I must’ve become so emotionally distressed my magic somehow-“
  782. “Linked our pasts and emotions?”
  783. >”Yes. Did it happen to you too?”
  784. >You nod your head to confirm. Fluttershy slowly backs away from you, but you quickly reach out and embrace her in your arms. She squeaks timidly given that a moment ago she thought you were about to kill her.
  785. “I never meant to hurt you.”
  786. >You coo softly in her ear as you stroke her mane.
  787. “Sorry for dragging you into this.”
  788. >Fluttershy looks you in the eyes, they begin to shimmer with tears as she wraps her tiny forelegs around you for a hug.
  789. >Twilight approaches the both of you. “Anon, I’m so sorry.” Her ears flatten against her head.
  790. >You release Fluttershy from your embrace as you turn to face Twilight.
  791. >No doubt she was talking about everything that happened.
  792. >Deep within, you feel the same.
  793. “I didn’t realize it was more than just Pinkie Pie you were mourning for.”
  794. >An awkward silence fills the room, but there was still the manner of what to do with Fluttershy.
  795. “Twilight, forgiveness doesn’t mean you have to let the offender off the hook. It’s about freeing yourself emotionally to live in the here and now. And it took me some time to learn that myself.”
  796. >You could see the tears welling up in her eyes.
  797. “But I think we need to find a solution and quick. Hope and I don’t have much longer to stay around.”
  798. >Twilight takes a deep breath and puzzles for a moment.
  799. >And then she gets an idea.
  800. >“Anon, I want Fluttershy to see what else she took away from us. I don’t mean Pinkie or Anon.”
  801. >You already knew what she meant.
  802. >Fluttershy has no knowledge, even today, of the other life she took that day.
  803. “And once she realizes, then do you feel that it will put things at ease?”
  804. >”When she realizes, then I’ll know for sure.”
  805. >You look at Fluttershy who can only respond with a puzzled look.
  806. >”Spike, take a letter. We’re taking a trip to Canterlot.”
  807. >Within the hour, a chariot arrives to take you, Fluttershy and Twilight to the royal Canterlot garden just outside the castle walls.
  808. >As you disembark, Fluttershy whispers to you. “What am I going to do now?”
  809. “You’ll see. Just follow Twilight for now.”
  810. >Further into the gardens, you walk alongside Twilight and Fluttershy.
  811. >There you see that unmistakable grave of Pinkie.
  812. >The deathly silence sends an all-too-familiar chill up your spine.
  813. >Twilight looks over to Fluttershy. “On that day when jealousy took away the Fluttershy I used to know, it also took away our dear friend. But I want you to see what else you did that day.” She points to a small gravestone next to Pinkie’s.
  814. >You stood next to Twilight as the yellow pegasus walks towards the grave.
  815. >She gingerly walks around until she stops dead in her tracks.
  816. >Coming across that small gravestone, her legs grow weak as she crumbles to the ground and buries her head in the green grass.
  817. >Twilight approaches Fluttershy from behind and places a hoof on her shoulder.
  818. >You stood back while you let them have their moment.
  819. >Even from where you’re standing you can still hear her sobbing quietly.
  820. >Again, you feel that weird sensation come over you. In the middle of their conversation, you sense something emanating from Fluttershy.
  821. >A bright light envelopes her, followed by this pulse.
  822. >Shielding your eyes from the flash, you aren’t sure what just happened.
  823. >Your eyes adjust and there you see Fluttershy as a necklace manifests itself around her neck.
  824. >The jewels on it shimmer with a brilliant array of colour as if given new life.
  825. >She finally did it.
  826. >Fluttershy has regained her title of the Element of Kindness.
  827. >A moment later they approach you, both teary-eyed but everything seemingly back to normal.
  828. >”Anon, Fluttershy has something she wants to tell you.”
  829. >Twilight nudges her towards you.
  830. >Fluttershy clears her throat. “Anon, you have done so much for me. Without your help, none of this would be possible.”
  831. >Twilight prods her again.
  832. >”That is why I also agreed with Twilight that when we finish helping you in your mission, I will give myself in to face justice.”
  833. >You were taken back by this.
  834. >Fluttershy wasn’t forced into this agreement, was she?
  835. “Are you sure about it?”
  836. >She nods. “I want to take all responsibility for what happened to Pinkie, Anon. It’s the least I can do.”
  837. >Twilight steps forward. “It’s the most I can ask a friend to do.”
  838. >Now that this escapade was done with, it could only mean one thing.
  839. “I guess that means...”
  840. >“You and Hope better get going.”
  841. >It was done.
  842. >Now it was time to focus your efforts on finding Lyra and retrieving that orb.
  843. >As for the missing Element of Harmony, Twilight assures you that they’ll find somepony in good time.
  844. >As you follow the two ponies to leave the cemetery, something catches your eye.
  845. >Out of the corner at the other side of the grave you could see a little girl standing there.
  846. >It was your sister again.
  847. >This time you could sense she was happy.
  848. >And for the first time, so were you.
  849. >Quietly you whisper to her.
  850. “Thank you...”
