  13. - ATTENTION! In order to obtain the Zodiac Spear, you must *not* open
  14. certain barrels in four specific locations.

  20. - A single save file takes 94 kb of space.
  21. - Press Triangle while pressing up or down to scroll pages. This can also
  22. be used to set the figure to one or all when choosing quantity.
  23. - Many shops will update their wares as you progress in the game.
  24. - Body armor increases physical defense and headwear increases magic
  25. defense. Furthermore, these are divided into three different types. Each
  26. of them consistently increases a different stat in addition to DFP / MDF.
  27. × Heavy: Strength
  28. × Light: HP
  29. × Mystic: Magic
  30. - Shields increase Evade (and occasionally Magic Evade).
  31. - Enemies don't respawn from simply refreshing the area unless you
  32. move two areas away. Loading the game also triggers respawns. If you
  33. stay within one area and its adjacent areas, respawns will occur
  34. eventually.
  35. - Sometimes certain enemies will fail to spawn, but will then spawn,
  36. if you kill other enemies and move away from their spawn point.
  37. - Some enemies (especially Rare Monsters) have a chance of spawning.
  38. If one does not spawn, the respawn rules apply (ie. their spawn is
  39. not re-rolled unless you move two areas away or load the game).
  40. - In some special cases, you have to leave the area (as in, the region)
  41. before the enemy can respawn.
  42. - Some enemies require special conditions in order to spawn.
  43. - You can increase the drop rate and quantity of dropped items by
  44. 'chaining,' ie. killing enemies of the same type in succession.
  45. - Each character can learn 3 Mist Techniques. The second and third ones
  46. will increase the character's max MP multiplier by 1 each. Mist moves
  47. are gained by simply activating an MT panel on the License Board (50 LP
  48. each). One panel can only be activated by one character, so you should
  49. focus on giving them to characters that are part of your final party.
  50. I never actually use the Mist moves, as all I can do with them is produce
  51. very unimpressive damage at the cost of all my MP. I have no idea what's
  52. up with that...
  53. - After completing the Henne Mines, Giza Plains will start alternating
  54. between the Dry and the Rains (2 hours of dry, 1 hour of rains).
  55. - Battle Lore and Magic Lore increase Str/Mag by 1.
  56. - Healing items (with all three Lore skills):
  57. Potion | 150 HP
  58. Hi-Potion | 600 HP
  59. X-Potion | 2400 HP
  60. Phoenix Down | Revive with 50% HP
  61. Ether | 75 MP
  62. Hi-Ether | 300 MP
  63.  
  64. - Instead of chests, the game features what appear to be barrels and
  65. pots, and, unlike before, these containers usually don't give you fixed
  66. items. Instead, these containers have a chance to spawn and a chance
  67. to give you an item (both typically around 50%). There are typically
  68. two different items you can get (equal odds). With the Diamond Armlet,
  69. you have a 10% chance of getting the second item. If you don't get an
  70. item, you'll get money.
  71. - If a barrel you're looking for isn't there or you get the wrong item,
  72. you'll need to respawn it; move 3 areas away and come back to see if
  73. your luck's changed. If there's a save point nearby, you can also reload
  74. your save for the same effect.
  75. - If the RNG doesn't seem forthcoming, reset the console.
  76. - Barrel notes:
  77. s: barrel can only give you one item
  78. nr: barrel does not respawn nor can it give you money
  79. DA: Diamond Armlet required
  80.  
  81. - The Synthesis system in FFXII is essentially pretty basic (get the
  82. required materials, then just create the item), but there are a few
  83. things that set it apart. First off, the game tells you nothing. You
  84. can't see what items can be created nor what materials they require
  85. (the guides got you covered, though).
  86. - The way it works is that the item is automatically created once you've
  87. sold the necessary materials. The game keeps track of the number of
  88. each material you've sold, but when an item is created, the values for
  89. the used materials will go down to 0.
  90. - You can save yourself from extra grinding by taking advantage of the
  91. overlap mechanic. Eg. if weapon a requires 4 of item x and weapon b
  92. requires 5, you only need 5 if you unlock both weapons at the same
  93. time, during the same session.
  94. - Also, the created items have to be bought.
  95. - Some items can be created more than once. However, another one will
  96. not be made until you've bought the pre-existing one.
  97.  
  98. - Notes on the PS4 version:
  99. × The License Board has been nerfed quite a bit, as you are now limited
  100. to only two classes (with the second one becoming available after the
  101. Tomb of Raithwall). Not that big a deal so long as two of your characters
  102. have White Mage as their other class. The third one should be a Knight,
  103. as that class has access to Curaga and Curaja, although only one Knight
  104. can get them, since they're tied to summons. If you get Seitengrats,
  105. there's no need for anyone to take the Archer.
  106. × Choose your classes carefully, as there's no way to switch them for
  107. some warped reason. [can change in later versions]
  108. × Characters still have the same default licenses. As such, even if
  109. you don't make a single Archer or Machinist, you can still steal with
  110. Vaan, Balthier and Fran.
  111. × The White Mage can learn Libra with Cuchulainn.
  112. × The fast forward function makes things a lot less tedious.
  113. × You can use the Japanese voice track as well as turn the godawful
  114. music off.
  115. × There's a new overlay map function that you can toggle with L3.
  116. × There are no more limits on stats or damage. The game is unable to
  117. show stat figures that exceed the old limits, however.
  118. × Pretty much all the containers are different. Containers are re-rolled
  119. simply when you refresh the area.
  120. × Most abilities are obtained in a different way, such as from containers,
  121. although you usually don't have to worry about any of the odds. You
  122. just have to find them.
  123. × Quickenings no longer consume MP, but instead have their own bar.
  124. Also, learning a Quickening no longer increases your MP.
  125. × You can easily get a Diamond Armlet in Westersand - Windtrace Dunes.
  126. It's in the separate section accessed from the Shimmering Horizons.
  127. Once you have that, you can try and score a Seitengrat (or two) by
  128. manipulating the RNG. It's quite easy. If you don't get the right
  129. Cure figures in a minute or two, restart the game.
  130. × Even if you don't get the secret weapons, you should forget about
  131. the Zodiac Spear. The one in the Necrohol is gone. The easiest way
  132. to get one now is by giving 10 trophies to each bangaa in the Hunt
  133. Club side quest at Phon Coast (available after Draklor Lab). I'd go
  134. with the Ribbon instead (16 to Stok). That way you can get another
  135. pair of Genji Gloves as well. By the way, a Ribbon now gives you
  136. Auto-Libra and Auto-Regen in addition to status protection.
  137. × Since only the Time Mage can cast Float, you'll want to wear Steel
  138. Poleyns or Winged Boots in areas with nasty traps you can't easily
  139. avoid.
  140. × Regarding double xp, there's one Embroidered Tippet in Nam-Yensa
  141. Sandsea (Simoon Bluff, 100%) and another in Feywood (Antiquity's End,
  142. 25%). To get a third one, you have to Poach Coeurls in the Tchita
  143. Uplands (Coeurls found elsewhere won't do).
  144. × You can find one Cameo Belt in the Barheim Passage (you have to
  145. complete the side quest in the South Bank Village in Estersand to get
  146. the Barheim Key). There's another one in Subterra. You can also steal
  147. it from Cuchulainn in Trial Stage 42.
  148. × In the Belito hunt, you need to get to the separate section of the
  149. Withering Shore, accessed through the Zertinan Caverns.
  150.  
  151. × In Pharos - Subterra, you need to use a certain number of Black Orbs
  152. on the four pedestals in order to access the next level. The game tells
  153. you when you have the right amount, so it's quite simple. At the end,
  154. you'll find the Elite Mark, Shadowseer. And that's it. There are some
  155. nice items too and the xp is good.
  156. × Abyssal has stasis traps (Reverse & Disable) that you really don't
  157. want to risk triggering. You can get rid of both with Esuna, but that
  158. requires that you're actually able to cast magic. Reverse is something
  159. a Ribbon won't block (which is really a good thing).
  160. × There are a few Magic Pots in Subterra that you need to watch out.
  161. Tweak your gambits so your characters will only attack undead enemies.
  162. If you end up provoking a Magic Pot somehow, run for your fucking life.
  163. Using an Elixir on them will make them very easy to kill, but there's
  164. really no reason to bother (except once for the bestiary). Without
  165. using an Elixir, they'll take 0 damage even from the Seitengrat.
  166. Ironically (or perhaps fittingly?), these guys are actually the best
  167. source for Elixirs (stolen).
  168. × Items of note in Subterra:
  169. × Indigo Pendant (Penumbra - NE, in the room with the Magic Pot, 5%)
  170. × Assassin's Arrows (Penumbra - SE)(respawns)
  171. × Ring of Renewal (Penumbra - SW, 20%)
  172. × Cameo Belt (Umbra - NW, the room to the right, 5%)

  190. × When fighting Gilgamesh, your level should be one of the following:
  191. 79, 83, 85, 89, 91, 95, 97. For the first encounter, it doesn't matter.
  192. He ignores evade and hits increasingly hard. When he pulls out the
  193. 'legendary sword,' quickly hit him with Dispel before he puts up his
  194. barrier. And don't forget to steal the Genji gear.
  195. × Talk to the boy again after taking a skyferry to increase the odds
  196. of running into Deathgaze. No need to bother with the 7 sisters side
  197. quest. The reward is just a Ring of Renewal (Auto-Regen). Either way,
  198. Deathgaze starts off immune to physicals.
  199. × The gates in the new areas of the Great Crystal work in a different
  200. way than the ones in the story-related section. Each switch can open
  201. two different gates. After hitting a switch, you have to get to and
  202. manually open either of the two gates within a time limit. Only one
  203. of the two gates can be open at a time. Hitting a switch again will
  204. reset the gates.
  205. × Items with a limited spawn chance in the new areas:
  206. × Staff of the Magi (Sirhru Phullam Praa'vaa)(near WS XIII (via XI))
  207. × Yagyuu Darkblade (Sirhru Jilaam Pratii'vaa)(via WS XII)
  208. × Gendarme (Crystal Peak)(1%)
  209. × You'll find Shellga behind Leo 1 (via WS XII)
  210. × Way Stone XV takes you to the trickiest part. Here's the order:
  211. Libra 1, item, Capricorn 1, Virgo 1, Libra 2, Capricorn 2, WS XVII,
  212. (Save point), Aquarius switch, WS XVIII, Aquarius 1, Taurus 2, Hastega.
  213. × Way Stone XXI (beyond Taurus 1) takes you to Omega (+ an Artemis
  214. Bow), although you can't fight it until you've killed the Hell Wyrm.
  215. × Ultima's Holyja causes Reverse (even if you absorb the damage). She'll
  216. use it more frequently as the battle goes on. It will also get more
  217. powerful; anyone without Bubble or Holy absorption will not survive
  218. (there's one White Mask in the Necrohol and you can get another one
  219. through Synthesis). She can also Reflect the party. Various debilitations
  220. will be inflicted on you for most of the battle. They come in this order:
  221. HP drain, MP drain, Attack seal, Magic seal, Technique seal, Item seal,
  222. increased Charge Time. At very high levels, you should manage.
  223. × To fight Chaos in the Necrohol, you need to complete the medallion
  224. side quests.
  225. × Talk to the nu'mou in the Nabreus Deadlands to start the quest.
  226. × In Archades, you'll find a nu-mou named Roh'kenmu in the Magic shop.
  227. Talk to him, then Otto in Old Archades.
  228. × In Rabanastre, you have to talk to Roh'kenmou at Dalan's place,
  229. the kids near Dalan's place, the Curious Woman by the fountain, one
  230. of the bangaa merchants at the bazaar, the Sotted Imperial at the
  231. Magic shop and then one of the kids again (Filo).
  232. × In the Garamsythe Waterway, you need to activate the 5 switches in
  233. a certain order. This has nothing to do with Cuchulainn, by the way.
  234. × You can't use the Attack command when fighting Chaos. He can inflict
  235. 3 ailments (Confusion, Disable, Silence), so Ribbons will come in handy
  236. once again. Avoid all elements except Earth. Souleater will get the job
  237. done nicely.
  238. × When fighting Zodiark, keep resetting until you can steal a Great
  239. Trango (create an auto-save where all the enemies in your way are gone).
  240. Make sure you can actually finish the battle as well. Start off with
  241. all characters absorbing Dark, then remove it from one character after
  242. the initial Darkja. At Lv99 and with Seitengrats, you should be able
  243. to take him out before he starts putting up his barriers at low health.
  244. If he does manage to put up the barrier, things will get tricky, as
  245. he'll put it up again every time it goes down.
  246. × Behemoth King will alternate between a physical barrier and a magic
  247. barrier. He hits very hard during the magic barrier.
  248. × The Cartographer trophy seems to require that you visit every area
  249. in every location you can revisit (maps don't matter). If you didn't
  250. miss anything, you should get it when you enter the area where Hell
  251. Wyrm is.
  252. × Hell Wyrm's normal attack has a 5% chance of inflicting Instant Death.
  253. Judgment is Holy-elemental. You can avoid it by standing on his side.
  254. He'll eventually start using Invert, which swaps your current HP and
  255. MP. All in all, he's nothing to worry about. If you use Reverse, don't
  256. forget to drop the Gendarme. Otherwise, the absorption will kill the
  257. character.
  258. × Omega is a huge cunt. It's only got one attack, but the damage is
  259. very high (around 7000), and it spams it at a relentless pace. It may
  260. also inflict Berserk. The only way I could beat it was by constantly
  261. disengaging. I'd go in, fire a few arrows, then fall back to reapply
  262. Reverse. In Trial Mode, you don't have that option.
  263. × Yiazmat is where I have to draw the line. 50 million HP is just too
  264. much. I'm not doing it.
  265. × You can buy Hi-Ether from the baknamy merchant at the end of the game.
  266. × If you want Megalixirs, the best source would be a pot in Pharos -
  267. Empyrean Ravel (2%).
  268. × If you can actually somehow manage the battle, steal the Bonebreaker
  269. from Omega in Trial Stage 99 and use it to inflict Disease on Drace,
  270. who will otherwise heal herself (and others) with Elixirs. If you fail
  271. to steal it, you'll need to use Niho instead.
  272. × Once you're done with all of the above, it's time to start filling
  273. in the rest of the bestiary. It's mainly just hunting down the Rare
  274. monsters you missed. The three normal enemies you're not likely to
  275. find on your own are the Oiling (Stilshrine of Miriam, hidden path
  276. in Ward of the Sword-King), the Garif Adventurer (Ozmone Plain -
  277. Greensnake. Keep killing the Wus and refreshing the area. If you want
  278. to fight him again, you need to leave the Ozmone Plain) and the Gazer
  279. (Lhusu Mines - Site 2, spawns after 7 minutes). You don't have to get
  280. all the pages.

  397. I find that the rewards just aren't good enough to be worth the time
  398. (you'll be able to buy Bubble Belts, Cat-ear Hoods and Bravery - that's
  399. about it). If you still wanna do it, you can go ahead, but I recommend
  400. against signing up for anything above Rank 6.

  452. - The barrel with the Rod (30 ATP) is on the cliff almost directly north,
  453. when you come from the Passage Entrance. There might be another barrel
  454. just nearby, but it's further west. If you still can't find it, try this:
  455. Leave the Passage Entrance (you did save your game, right?). Look
  456. towards the village and you should see smoke rising from it. Head towards
  457. it and you'll easily hit the right barrel... *if* it's there. If not, at
  458. least you have some idea where it spawns.

  462. - The Battle Harness accessory enables a character to counterattack at a
  463. rate of (Spd/2). I'd buy one for the character you control, as they're
  464. the one who's going to be taking the most hits.

  1821. a blizzard in these areas. Furthermore, the blizzard is not one of the
  1822. possible rolls when moving within the Paramina Rift.
  1823. - Thus, the fastest way to do this is to trigger a blizzard, then move
  1824. back and forth between Icebound Flow and Silverflow's End.

  1881. - The best way to get the stuff (without the CJ) is by fighting Dustia.
  1882. It spawns in your location if one of your characters is below 10% HP
  1883. (but not dead). Also, Dustia won't respawn unless you leave the
  1884. Westersand, although it makes little difference. To get below 10%, kill
  1885. a character, give them a Phoenix Down and a Potion, then hit them with
  1886. Graviga.
  1887. - If you've been doing hunts, you've probably unlocked the Canopic Jar,
  1888. which would allow you to score Arcanas from any normal enemy. However,
  1889. this stuff bacomes essentially useless after unlocking the Tournesol,
  1890. so you should still go with the Dustia option and save 250 grand.
  1891.  
  1892. - Well, that's it. Once you have all the materials (6 Wargod's Bands,
  1893. 6 Damascus, etc.), you need to sell the minimum amount required for the
  1894. synthesis, buy the result, then do it again. Make sure you synthesize
  1895. Empyreal Soul and Serpentarius at the same time, so you don't have to
  1896. make more High Arcanas.
  1897. - You could save yourself from a little extra material hunting if you
  1898. waited until you can unlock the Masamune as well, but that's not until
  1899. you're almost done with the final dungeon.
