  8. The plot is fairly lighthearted, if a bit bland and reusing base game lines here and there (sometimes to its detriment, other times to its benefit). I think it's based off of some anime we've never watched, so I imagine I must be missing out on details here and there. The main character's dialogue feels a bit...less emotional than it should be, especially in really heavy or surprising moments where you would want to FEEL his emotions through his words and their delivery. The few custom assets the mod currently has didn't feel like they were being used to their fullest extent...sometimes with a lack of additional assets (there's a notable use of text being used in lieu of sound effects). Even the base game assets suffer a bit; characters often go for several lines without expression changes. There's plenty of comedic moments, with a few that got me to chuckle. The tension near the end was also a genuine surprise, although the infestation of memes kind of ruined it. However, for a developer's first mod, it's certainly nothing to scoff at in terms of effort. With the fact that the mod is continuing to be worked on, there's plenty of potential for improving this to be a pretty decent time.

  17. Choose Your Own Adventure, but if it was short, stupid and involved DDLC. A lot of the plot follows a comedic ("shitpost") nature, with characterization being flanderized down to the bone. It's also incredibly short, only giving you three moments to make a major choice that changes the narrative of the story (which generally ends with someone dying). Considering this seems to be one of VA's oldest mods, I'm largely gonna chalk up a lot of the issues to inexperience and a desire to mess around with edgy stuff without really caring about the quality, which is fine. However, it overall doesn't make the mod shine as well in $CURRENT_YEAR.

  26. The sequel that - surprise, surprise - is pretty much the same as the first. There's a few more original assets this time around, as well as some more impressive codework (probably due to the team having gotten some more experience). The main story is...actually better than the original? Despite the extreme character changes (like Sayori being dumber than a glass of water) and clear shitpost script, it flows a lot better than the first M3NUS did, and has a lot more choice variety; it even lets you go back to any previous choice once the ending is reached. Unfortunately, there's little variety IN these endings still, with most involving someone dying (including the true ending). If you're going to play one of the M3NUS mods, go with this one.

  35. Ah, 2019, back when the standards were lower and R6 was king. The pacing feels a little rushed, almost as if the dev was trying to get this out on the actual anniversary date and started it about a week or so earlier, with the several typos seemingly confirming this. Typical DDLC moment tropes are also present (gently opening doors). Libitina being present as a character was also kind of a surprise, complete with an OC sprite design that I don't think's resurfaced in anything afterward (probably for good reason as it's kinda rough compared to the one published by Weiss). All in all, it's an okay little romp.

  44. The first Wretched Team mod we'll be looking at for this. Generally I'm not a big fan of WT anything given how depressing their overall attitude is, but what I can appreciate is their coding/visual presentation. of which this mod boasts in spades. The main menu alone left me pondering how they were able to get this done in two days, and the plot (while still grim) was actually really intriguing and well-carried, even though it leaves a couple major details up to interpretation. Despite some characterization issues (why is Sayori British?), the overall experience is still masterfully done and worthy of applause.
