⇥ Background:
♡ When Hwayoung was a kid she loved singing with her mother to her father playing the guitar. As she grew older, her love for music grew bigger. She started participating in competitions and tried out several genres such as Ballads, R&B, Hip-Hop, Rock, Rap, Pop and Folk.
Her success with Rap was amazing and after one of the competitions she got casted by a SM casting director. She was very surprised as well as her parents. At first they were scared, because she was too young, but the casting director reassured them she is in good hands and she will be taken a good care of.
This happened around 2011/2012.
 ♡ But of course we know this is SM and the poor 11 year old girl was in bad hands. She was lonely most of the time because the other girls there were older than her and they already had a clique. Hwayoung got good at dancing pretty fast and for 11 years old girl it was incredible.
Sadly when she was 13 something scary happened- she got very severe laryngitis and couldn’t sing anymore. Hwayoung was crushed. She cried for two weeks straight until Mark suggested her to aim for rapping and that was a blast for her.

⇥ How did y'all meet:
 ♡ Hwayoung knew Donghyuck from several competitions but they were never friends. They just wished each other good luck and success and that was it. They didn’t interact outside these contests.
 ♡ When Hwayoung got into SM (after being casted and going through several other tests) the first friend she made was Seulgi and then she introduced her to the other trainees.
 ♡ At the time (2012) Hwayoung wasn’t very close to Johnny, but she admired him for waiting so long (according to her 4 years are very long period). When Mark became trainee, Hwayoung literally latched onto him. They got along and because Mark was the only one close to her (as well as she to Mark), they became very close. (Let’s not forget Yeri too, even though she’s a bit older)
 ♡ The following year (2013) a lot of new trainees got around and even ones her age. She was so happy to find new friends there. When she saw Donghyuck, she was so happy to see the familiar after so many years.
 ♡ Then she got the laryngitis and went to the hospital to get it treated. Mark and Donghyuck went to see her and Jeno, Jisung, Ten, Johnny, Seulgi and Yeri followed them because some were tired from training and others were genuinely worried for her. Donghyuck, as a fellow vocal oriented trainee, was so worried for her because her vocal cords were severely damaged and the doctor said there was zero to minimum chance for her to recover.
 ♡ After she got out of the hospital (she stayed for two weeks) she was able to talk without hurting again and everyone was relieved she was better. At the time Mark and Taeyong were a big strength for her and helped her continue walking towards her dream of being a performer.
