  1. The year is 1946, March 30th, in Hali, Hawaii, and 21-year-old Melanie Caito is on a mission to find a new job. After getting fired from her job as a nuclear weapons engineer, she heads to her apartment with her head hung. Her “roommate” Julian LaBelle, looks up from her magazine, and hands Melanie a letter.
  2. "Some police-dude wanted me to give this to you."
  3. Melanie takes the paper, and it says,
  4. "Ms. Caito, you have specially chosen to enter a program for a study in nuclear physics. You are one of the select few people in the world have the set of skills required for this job. Please go to the address listed at the bottom of this letter at 11:30 PM sharp. Do not be late, our door close then. Thank you."
  5. "Yea, I dun know what it’s about. If I were you, I wouldn’t check it out. It sounds really fuckin’ suspicious." Julian said, lowering her magazine and looking at the clock. "Well it’s 11 ‘o’ clock right now, and I’m thinking about headin’ to bed. Join me if you wanna."
  6.
  7. Melanie smiled, “Sure. Be there ina sec, gotta eat someting, ‘kay?”
  8.
  9. Julian nodded and walked towards the bedroom. Melanie waiting a few minutes, and clinked some dishes together to fool her roommate into thinking she was preparing a snack. She started towards the cracked-open window, deciding that was her better option since the door made a god-awful creaking sound. She picked up the letter, and slowly lifted the window pane up, crawled through it, and shut it again. Now on the fire escape, she sprinted down the stairs, excited about this new job opportunity.
  10.
  11. It was 11:20, and Melanie skidded to a quick stop in front of the physics lab. To her surprise, no one was in front of the building, she figured people would be milling about since it was 10 minutes before the place closed. And even though the door blinds were drawn, she could see light, and faint silhouettes inside the building. The windows were covered by wooden boards, and curtains were shut up tight. Melanie was having second thoughts, but she really wanted to prove Julian wrong. Just this once. She carefully stepped up the doorstep, and knocked twice on the door. The blinds on the door peaked open, and shut suddenly. The door swung open and Melanie was pulled in.
  12.
  13. It was 9:30 AM, and Melanie was nowhere to be seen, Julian had a few thoughts on where Melanie could be though. But she didn’t want to admit it. She decides that it’s up to her to save and possibly avenge Melanie.
