13.
14. Scheherazade was born to the Icefields, as cold and dark as the granite under the Ends. When she learned to fly, she left her ice-locked home in search of milder climes, and came to the Tangled Wood. She found the way of Shadow dragons enchanting, and quickly grew to believe that she had been born to the wrong element. Her eyes should have been deep purple rather than pale white, she decided.
15.
16. So she did what no other dragon had done before her: she petitioned the Shadowbinder to change her element from Ice to Shadow. Hear my pledge, she would say into the mounds of maple leaves in the Forum of the Obscured Crescent. Take my Ice. Give me my Shadow.
17.
18. Being as no dragon had ever done such a thing before, Scheherazade's first request was met only with silence. She was persistent, however, and asked again. And again. She would return to the Obscured Crescent each night and implore the Shadowbinder to accept her conversion. Her quest wore on the Shadowbinder, who charged Scheherazade with a task that (it was assumed) no mere mortal could complete. In exchange, the Shadowbinder promised She would take Scheherazade's Ice and give her her Shadow.
19.
20. Scheherazade completed the task and returned the following night. The Shadowbinder was impressed, and true to Her word, she took Scheherazade's eyes and gave her only shadows. Blinded, though certain she'd triumphed in her quest, Scheherazade wandered the world a devotee of the Shadowbinder, seeking only to do Her will. In her wanderings, Scheherazade found Elisheba: a god-queen who would strike a blow against the Lightweaver and claim the Hewn City. Scheherazade offered her skills -- a curiously strong affinity for Ice magic for one so certainly Shadow-bound -- in exchange for a place among the conquering army and has become the Icy Shadow of Her Eternal Majesty's forces.
