  1. "Perry, can you come in here?"
  2. There it was, the phrase everyone in the office dreaded. No one ever came out of a meeting with the boss in a good spot when he used those words. The pudgy man retreated to his desk, closing the door to his office behind him.
  3. The young Faunus quickly got out of his cubicle and made his way in. He knocked on the door before opening it and sticking his head in.
  4. "You wanted to see me, Mr. DeLion?"
  5. "Yes, yes. Come in, sit down."
  6. Perry took a seat in the chair across from his boss. He felt his heart race as he pushed his drooping glasses back up his nose.
  7. "Now, Perry. We here at Geoff's Debt and Accounting are the second largest accounting firm in Vale. Damn those Schnees... But even we need to find ways to save money. Unfortunately for you, this means that your time here is over."
  8. "What are you saying, sir?"
  9. "Perry, you're fired."
  10. "But sir! Look at the numbers! I'm pulling in larger clients and have a faster turnover than Miles and Kerry! There's no way that I'm under-performing enough I should be the first one let go."
  11. "The decision has been made, Mr. Winkal."
  12. Perry gets up and puts his hands together, begging his boss, "Sir, please. I have a wife and daughter. I need this job!"
  13. The man jumps up, nearly yelling, "This isn't up for debate, you dense animal!"
  14. The room fell silent as the pair lingered on the insult.
  15. "Is that really how you see us, Dan? Is that all we are to you? Just a bunch of animals?"
  16. The man's lack of an answer was enough for Perry.
  17. "Well guess what. You can't fire me. I quit!"
  18. Perry grabs the chair and chucks it through the glass separating them from the rest of the office. He walks out the office's door, slamming it on his former boss. He makes his way back to his desk and quickly shoves his belongings in an old paper box. Without a word to his former co-workers, he leaves the office.
  19. He stood on the sidewalk in silence for what seemed like an eternity. What was he going to now? How would he provide for his family? His thoughts raced as he took his first step. He wasn't sure where he was going, but he just had to move. Just keep moving forward, away from Geoff's Debt and Accounting. Away from Dan DeLion.
  20. He wasn't sure how long he was walking before he stopped. He looked up from his box of belongings and pushed up his glasses as he took in his surroundings. Unfamiliar buildings and streets met his gaze before a voice called out to him from an alley.
  21. "Hey, you lookin' for the meeting?"
  22. "E-excuse me?" Perry looked around, not really sure if the man was calling him or not.
  23. "The meeting. Ya know. The uh.. Faunus only meeting."
  24. "Faunus meeting?" A shady alleyway meeting for only Faunus? He couldn't mean the White Fang did he? He'd heard rumors there was going to be another recruitment in the city, but he never thought they were true.
  25. "Yea, you know. Well you're early. Come back in a few hours. And uh, ditch the junk, aight?" The man looked at the box in his hands before turning his attention away from Perry.
  26. He nods slowly before turning around. It was getting late, the sun had already passed behind the thin walls that kept them safe. He had to go home, talk to his wife. Maybe she could help him figure out what he needed to do.
  27. After getting home, Perry places his belongings on the small table in the kitchen. Their home wasn't large by any means. A small kitchen that also served as the dining room and a cramped living room where the only other rooms in their two bed, one bath apartment. He noticed a note on the fridge and went over to read it.
  28. 'Parents invited us for dinner. Didn't know where you were, you weren't answering your work phone. Too dangerous to come back at night without you. See you tomorrow."
  29. He crumpled the paper and held it close to his chest as he leaned his forehead against the fridge. Tears start to run down his cheeks as he chokes back sobs. How could he deal with this on his own? He slammed his free hand against the fridge before an idea hit him. What about the White Fang? Maybe they could--no.
  30. He moved away from the fridge and laid on the small couch in the living room. His eyes closed as his mind slowly settled down.
  31. ...
  32. Perry jolted into a sitting position as he awoke. He looked outside and it was already dark. That meeting would be soon. Maybe he'd stop by, see what they were planning. Who knows?
  33. He got up and made his way back to the alley. He could see a few other Faunus going in, and he too made his way inside.
  34. "Welcome back. Wasn't sure if you had the guts."
  35. "T-thanks." He pushed his glasses up his face, looking past the door man.
  36. "Grab a mask, and get inside. Stay to the right, with the other recruits."
  37. Wordlessly, Perry makes his way inside. He snatches a mask and held it in front of him before taking his glasses off. He put on the mask, but couldn't see anything. He sighed before sliding his glasses over the mask. To his surprise, not only could he see, but his glasses finally felt like they fit.
  38. He made his way into the main area and joined the crowd of recruits. He stood there as even more filled in behind him. He could hear whispering behind him, but he didn't pay attention to it as a rather large White Fang member gave an introduction for... a human?
  39. It was the first he had heard of a human working with the White Fang since they began radicalizing. It was also the first time he'd see Roman Torchwick. He listened to the man as the whispering behind him grew more intense. What did he say about moving to their southern operation? Maybe if he went, he could pass it off as a business trip. At least until he could figure out what to do for a job and what to tell his wife.
  40. Some White Fang member told them to start moving forward, and so he did. He heard the whispering behind him fade before a shot rang out. Perry ducked and put his hands on his head as the lights went out. He looked around, his Faunus eyes letting him see the pair of Faunus jump through the window. He turned slightly to see Torchwick stumble int the Paladin before smashing through the building.
  41. "Everyone, remain calm. It seems we had some traitors in our midst. But fear not, our Exterminator will ensure that no one's involvement with the White Fang will be in jeopardy. Please continue to move into the next building so you may receive your uniforms and assignments." The large man had taken charge in the chaos, holding a chainsaw that Perry hadn't seen a moment ago.
  42. The crowd of recruits moves next door, and each of them are given their uniforms. When a White Fang member with a clipboard comes up to him, he's asked if he has a preference on his assignment.
  43. "Can I get stationed in the south? But only after tomorrow. I want to make sure my family doesn't think I'm missing."
  44. "Sure. We send supplies and men their daily. Roman's dust heists have really gone great. Dunno what it's for yet, but I'm sure it'll be something, at least."
  45. Perry wonders what she meant, but ignores it for now. "Alright, thanks."
  46. He listens to his superiors speak for a while before they were dismissed. The recruits were told to meet back here tomorrow night for their assignments.
  47. Perry left the warehouse, not knowing what happened with that human and the machine. He was sure he did what needed to be done. But was a human killing a pair of Faunus what needed to be done? Was joining the White Fang what he needed to do? These questions clouded his mind as he lay on the couch after returning home.
