  1. >The sun had finally disappeared beneath the horizon, and the moon took its place.
  2. >Luna had made the moon the brightest it had been since her return, in addition to a comet streaking across the sky in Canterlot's general direction.
  3. >The two elder Alicorns were operating on the assumption Twilight had managed to get out herself, and was looking for guidance.
  4. >She was a resourceful pony, after all.
  5. >The moon was for your impromptu rescue crew, lighting the ground as though it were day.
  6. >Your rescue crew consisted of yourself, Flash Sentry, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity.
  7. >Why Rarity chose to tag along was beyond you.
  8. "Rares, far be it from me to reject your help, but...why?"
  9. >"Why, darling, I have a special spell that lets me find gems!"
  10. >She flashed you a dazzling smile, before producing a rather large sapphire from her bag and planting it on the ground.
  11. >"I go in with you, and we'll never get lost."
  12. "...huh."
  13. >Fair enough.
  14. "Dash, where did that insect pull the ground up?"
  15. >The pegasus shrugged, then looked around.
  16. >"Somewhere around here, look for a hinge maybe?"
  17. >You resisted the urge to slam your palm into your face.
  18. >Regardless, you and your search party looked.
  19. >Flash tripped over something, and picked himself up before inspecting it.
  20. >"Here, I found it!"
  21. >There was a crack in the earth no wider than a millimeter.
  22. >You dug your fingers into it, gripping underneath and lifting.
  23. >The dirt and grass came up easily, and it was indeed on a hatch.
  24. >Made of waxy materials instead of metal, but the idea was the same.
  25. >You lead your impromptu search party into the dark caves, Rarity's horn being the only real source of light.
  26. >At least, at first.
  27. >Once you were deeper in, torches started lining the walls. They provided enough light that Rarity could stop wasting her strength on keeping the area illuminated.
  28. >Your group came to a fork in the tunnels.
  29. "Dash, Flash, you two take the upper route. Rarity and I will take the lower one."
  30. >"Gotcha Anon."
  31. >"Yes, sir."
  32. >You and the snowy unicorn continued deeper into the nest, on edge.
  33. >"Anonymous, isn't it...strange we've seen not a single Changeling?"
  34. "Yeah, it is."
  35. >You pulled the crossbow off of your back, taking aim down the corridor.
  36. >Something had flashed in the torchlight.
  37. "Rares, hold on."
  38. >You pulled the trigger, and a satisfying *twang* echoed quietly through the tunnel.
  39. >Until there was the sound of metal penetrating flesh.
  40. >You quietly crept forward, finding the bolt had lodged itself in the bugpony's neck.
  41. >Rarity turned her nose up at the violence, stepping over the corpse.
  42. >The changeling had been guarding a door, and you pushed it open.
  43. >Chains decorated the wall, and there were three other changeling corpses in here. One had its neck stomped in, two others seem to have been simply...sliced in half by something that had been heated.
  44. "What the hell happened here...?"
  45. >There was crimson blood on the floor near the chains, as well as a strange white fluid dotted here and there.
  46. >Three lavender feathers sat on the floor, and those you recognized immediately.
  47. >Twilight had been here.
  48. >You connected the dots quickly enough.
  49. >The blood came from her.
  50. >And the white stuff...semen.
  51. >Blind fury almost overtook you.
  52. >"Anonymous? Dear, what have you found?" The unicorn called from outside the door.
  53. "Don't come in, it's...not a pretty sight." You growled.
  54. >"What has you so angry? Is Twilight hurt?"
  55. >The nosy pony pushed the door open anyway, freezing at the sight of the carnage.
  56. >Her eyes widened as they locked to the blood, the feathers, and the semen in turn.
  57. >"Those...those animals..."
  58. "They're gonna pay, Rares. Every last one of them."
  59. >Rarity simply nodded, jaw set.
  60. >She was gritting her teeth as she lit her horn and lead you further down the hall.
  61. ===
  62. >"I need you three to distract the potential 'heroes'. They're looking for Twilight Sparkle, take her form and try to lure them away." The matron commanded to three drones.
  63. >They complied immediately, each taking the abused form you had last been seen in, except for one.
  64. >This particular drone looked as though you had been thrown into the brooding pod, complete with a faux slime coating.
  65. >Two of them went down opposing tunnels, but the third stayed put.
  66. >You retreated back the way you came, looking for an exit.
  67. >There had been a three-way split in the tunnel, so you picked one at random.
  68. >Chrysalis didn't know you were escaping, or so you hoped.
  69. >Your horn lit up with black energy again, grabbing another drone and silently ending his life.
  70. >You had to stop for a moment after that.
  71. >Panting heavily from all the exertion in the past twenty minutes, in addition to your lack of sleep, you took a short break.
  72. >You didn't need Anon, you didn't need anypony.
  73. >You managed to bear it all yourself.
  74. >You managed to break free on your own.
  75. >...you managed to get yourself kidnapped in the first place.
  76. >Sorrow, anger, rage, all of these and more were swirling around in your head.
  77. >The continued use of this black magic wasn't helping things.
  78. >Another split in the tunnels, and you had no idea which to follow.
  79. "Simple bit flip, I suppose..." You mumbled to yourself, before picking up a small rock and scoring one side of it.
  80. >A flip, a quick check, and you were heading to the right.
  81. >It seemed to be heading up, but Changeling tunnels were deliberately misleading.
  82. >It could end up forcing you further into the den for all you knew.
  83. >You wished you had been conscious when they brought you in, your eidetic memory would have helped immensely...
  84. >No, this tunnel kept going up.
  85. >Looking behind you, you saw this tunnel had met up with another a little way back.
  86. >Perhaps this was the way out...
  87. >The torches that lined the walls suddenly stopped, but moonlight was pouring in from a hole slightly further on.
  88. >Were they so desperate that the changelings had forgotten to close their burrow?
  89. >Regardless, you picked up the pace and left, the glorious wind and moonlight signalling you were finally, finally free.
  90. >Twenty-three hours, forty-four minutes.
  91. >Now, one final task.
  92. >Looking around, you tried to find something to destroy this changeling nest completely.
  93. >You were slightly irritated when your looking turned up no signs of a search party either.
  94. >Anon knew you were missing, so why wasn't he here!?
  95. >Anger boiled up again.
  96. >He was smart enough to figure out the imposter, why didn't he just follow it?
  97. >Did he get lost?
  98. >Did he not care?
  99. >Was that all you were to him? A desperate, lonely librarian?
  100. >Once the going got tough, the human checked out, was that it!?
  101. >When you got back to Ponyville, Anon was going to get it!
  102. >Your gaze traced up, when you saw it: A comet.
  103. >...
  104. >That would work.
  105. >A little over the top to be sure, but...
  106. >That would definitely cause the damage you wanted.
  107. ===
  108. >You and Rarity had been following tunnels for at least thirty minutes now.
  109. >The mare would throw down the occasional precious gem as a sort of breadcrumb trail, just infinitely more expensive.
  110. >Your crossbow had made short work of another changeling, but he did manage to get an alert off before the bolt ended him.
  111. >Both of you were running on borrowed time, and the two of you knew it.
  112. >You had to find Twilight fast, and get out.
  113. >You rounded a corner, coming face to face with Twilight herself.
  114. >She looked haggard, with a large cut on her forehead along with her mane and wings being absolutely trashed.
  115. >There were a few bruises along her side, which stood out even against her coat.
  116. >In addition, she was walking with a limp until she saw you, when she froze.
  117. >Twilight burst into tears, limping over to you and gesturing for you to come down to her level.
  118. >You did so, and she wrapped her hooves around your neck.
  119. "Shh...shh...I'm here now."
  120. >"Anon...I missed you so much..."
  121. >You kissed her on the horn, which got a pleasurable little chill from the Alicorn.
  122. >A quick look at her face, and the coat under her eyes was still dry, despite the tears falling down.
  123. >'Twilight' paused at the sudden change in emotion from you.
  124. >Fuck, you fell for it like a sucker.
  125. >You reached for one of your knives.
  126. >You were suddenly on your back, the unicorn's horn lit with a green light and pointed directly at your neck.
  127. >"Don't move, and he doesn't die!" The fake cried in Twilight's voice.
  128. >Rarity had lifted a rock to use, but was now frozen in place.
  129. >"Good, now the two of you are going to wait here whil-"
  130. >Whatever the changeling was going to say next was cut off as a cyan blur knocked it off of you.
  131. >'Twilight' struck a rock head on, the illusion failing almost immediately.
  132. >You stood and dusted yourself off, Rainbow trotting up to you a second later with a triumphant and haughty grin.
  133. >"Geez, lucky I got here when I did. Might have been picking you up with a blotter."
  134. >You rolled your eyes.
  135. "What happened to Flash?"
  136. >"We got separated, I went this way trying to find him."
  137. "Well, seeing as this way loops around, Rarity might as well go with you to find him." You hinted, wanting to be alone for right now.
  138. >They both nodded, seeing the annoyance and anger on your face and wanting to retreat to a safe distance.
  139. >You kicked a wall in frustration.
  140. >Which is when the wall collapsed entirely, the waxy substance falling apart.
  141. >Several bugponies were in the room, and a large green sac was hanging from the ceiling.
  142. >Lining the walls were dozens upon dozens of eggs, some unhatched, most already open.
  143. >In addition, a much larger bug was standing in the center of the room.
  144. >It was up to your neck in height, and had a small crown atop its head.
  145. >Eyelashes and eyeliner...
  146. >Either a literal Queen, or a figurative 'Queen'.
  147. >Or both.
  148. >To their credit, they looked shocked you had just burst in a way that obviously wasn't intended.
  149. >You drew your crossbow and loaded another bolt.
  150. >"Oh, so THIS is the human I've heard so very much about!" The larger one started seductively.
  151. >"Hmm."
  152. >For reasons you couldn't place, you couldn't just pull the trigger.
  153. >Something seemed to be physically stopping you, though a quick glance showed no jam or obstruction.
  154. >She got closer, inspecting you up and down.
  155. >"Tall, muscular, simply exuding power..."
  156. >You could have sworn she just swooned.
  157. >"No wonder I received such strong feelings of amorousness from little Twilight Sparkle! YOU must be the one she mates with!"
  158. >The bug cackled.
  159. >"I, my dear human, am Queen Chrysalis. This is my domain, and you'll be simply pleased to know I have already broken her."
  160. >She gestured with a quick flick of her head.
  161. >From behind a hatched egg, a purple bug stepped out.
  162. >Wings and a horn.
  163. >Holes in her legs, an obvious shine where shell replaced coat, her tri-colored mane now translucent and tattered...
  164. >It was still undeniably Twilight.
  165. >You sank to your knees.
  166. >You were too slow.
  167. >Fangs lined her mouth, and her usually bright amethyst eyes were lifeless and dull.
  168. >"Hmm hmm hmm~!" Chrysalis snickered. "I'll let you say your final goodbyes, before I kill you for trespassing."
  169. >The corrupted Twilight walked closer, and you wrapped her into a hug.
  170. >She was cold and lifeless, she felt like a rock.
  171. >Tears streaked your face, and a cold resolve settled over you.
  172. >She wouldn't want to live like this. Not a soul would.
  173. >Simply judging from the blank, glassy stare, she was already gone anyway.
  174. >The Gala, that rainy night in the library, Hearts and Hooves day...
  175. >All gone from her memory.
  176. "I...I'm sorry I was too late." You started. "But..."
  177. >Chrysalis tilted her head and narrowed her eyes.
  178. "But...I can still save you."
  179. >You quickly drew a knife and plunged it into Twilight's chest before the matriarch could stop you, directly into her heart.
  180. >The heart that had beat next to yours three nights ago, and the heart that finally stopped next to yours.
  181. >You wrenched it out, then spun on your heel as Twilight fell.
  182. >The knife flashed in the bio-luminescence cast from the sac, and drew across the Matriarch's face.
  183. >The hardened steel easily split the shell, drawing the green ichor changelings were known for.
  184. >Chrysalis backed away with a shout of pain and shock, before retaliating with a bolt of poorly aimed magic.
  185. >It coasted over your shoulder, hitting the green fluid-filled bag and burning a hole through it.
  186. >An icy, deadly fury draped over you.
  187. >It was simple fact at this point.
  188. >You would kill all of them, or you would die here.
  189. >There was nothing more to it.
  190. >A changeling tackled you from behind, not heavy enough to knock you over.
  191. >You reached behind your back, grabbing the bug and bringing the full force of your jaw muscles to bear.
  192. >Savagely, you tore its throat out with your teeth.
  193. >Tasted like chicken.
  194. >Adrenaline was fueling you at this point, the need for revenge like a white-hot iron on your mind.
  195. >The queen threw another bolt, and you used one of her children as a shield.
  196. "I've got nothing left to lose, Chrysalis!" You shouted, throwing the corpse aside.
  197. >You dove as another shot came for you, picking up the crossbow and letting the iron-tipped bolt loose.
  198. >She couldn't possibly react in time.
  199. >The bolt hit the bug directly in the side, punching through and embedding itself in her lungs.
  200. >You stalked closer, watching with morbid glee as the dying queen dealt with an emotion she probably had never felt before: Fear.
  201. "You're dying, you know that, right?" You taunted, stepping closer.
  202. >The other changelings in the room stayed a fair distance away, unsure.
  203. >Chrysalis merely gasped in response, not actually replying.
  204. "I could end your suffering, make it quick."
  205. >You put your boot on her neck, wracking another bolt into the chamber of the crossbow.
  206. "It wasn't quick for her though, was it?"
  207. >You applied a little more pressure, before stepping off and leaving her to bleed out.
  208. "I hope you rot in Hell, I'll see you there."
  209. >You stepped out, and followed the trail of gems.
  210. ===
  211. >Almost had it...
  212. >Your horn lit with a brilliant darkness, and you felt the comet give to your intentions at an excruciatingly slow rate.
  213. >With agonizing slowness, the comet turned towards you.
  214. >At this rate, impact would be within the half hour.
  215. >Far too much time for Chrysalis to escape.
  216. >A shout of rage left your mouth, and you felt the comet speed up almost threefold.
  217. >The blue burn turned to red as it hit the atmosphere, now too far along to stop.
  218. >This burrow, along with everything within a mile, would be erased on impact.
  219. >A small price to pay for the kidnapping of ponies (including yourself) to finally come to an end.
  220. >Then a short trip to Ponyville to find out WHY Anon hadn't come for you...
  221. >Depending on his answer, you'd deal with him accordingly.
  222. >He broke your heart by never showing up when you needed him most.
  223. >Wait.
  224. >The burrow, coming out...
  225. >Blue, orange, and white ponies.
  226. >Oh no.
  227. >Sweet Tartarus, no!
  228. >You galloped over, fear-stricken.
  229. "Rarity, Rainbow, Flash!? What are you doing here?!"
  230. >Flash was limping, his left wing bent at an angle that couldn't have been natural.
  231. >"Looking for yo-" Rainbow started, before the bright red glow from the comet-turned-meteorite cast over the field.
  232. "We need to leave! Did Anon come with you?"
  233. >Silence.
  234. "Is that a no!?"
  235. >You grit your teeth, absolutely furious.
  236. "If he doesn't care enough to be here, then I-!"
  237. >"No, Twilight! Dear, he's still in there, looking for you!" Rarity answered, cutting off your angry tirade.
  238. >It was as if ice water had filled your veins.
  239. "You three need to leave." You started quietly.
  240. >"But Twilight..."
  241. "NOW!"
  242. >Your horn lit up with the familiar magenta glow, and you directed it at the meteor.
  243. >It was far too late to stop it, but you could slow its descent somewhat, buying time for your human.
  244. >The others retreated quickly, or as quickly as they could with the wounded pegasus in tow.
  245. ===
  246. >You were almost out, if the trail of gems was any indication.
  247. >Not that you cared.
  248. >You had grim news to deliver to all of Equestria, after all.
  249. >Twilight was gone, her blood on your hands.
  250. >You'd never feel clean again.
  251. >You were numb, all the anger and rage bled out long ago.
  252. >Now you were just left with crushing despair and loneliness.
  253. >Perhaps you'd just...take a long walk off a short cliff.
  254. >They'd call it an accident, and you wouldn't have to live with the guilt.
  255. >Or maybe Celestia would end you.
  256. >You had gotten her Most Faithful Student killed, after all.
  257. >An earthquake rattled the tunnels.
  258. >Strange, you didn't know this area was on a fault line.
  259. >The rumbling grew greater and greater as time went on...and a strange sound started up.
  260. >It went from a dull whine to a great roar, and red light was cast down the hallway.
  261. >You sprinted out, to see a familiar lavender pony...
  262. >Twilight?!
  263. >You fell for that imposter shit AGAIN?! Were you stupid or something?
  264. >Her wings were spread, and her eyes were squeezed shut with concentration.
  265. >She had her teeth bared and gritting against each other, horn lit with an intense magenta light.
  266. >It almost hurt to look at.
  267. >Cuts and bruises were all over the mare, including a large gash on her forehead.
  268. >Her eyes suddenly shot open, glowing stark white.
  269. >"ANON!" She cried, bright white orbs locking to you.
  270. >Looking up, the comet that had been meant as a guide was crashing down almost on top of you, coated with her magenta aura.
  271. >Twilight Sparkle had cast Meteor.
  272. "Twilight!? What the fuck is going on!?" You shouted, sprinting over to the mare.
  273. >"Trying to fix a mistake!"
  274. >A mistake?!
  275. >A celestial object getting ready to fly into your face was a MISTAKE?!
  276. >An 'oopise'? A 'my bad'?!
  277. >Snarling as adrenaline slammed into your system for the second time in an hour, you grabbed her and dashed back into the tunnels.
  278. >Putting as much dirt and stone between you and the fireball was your main objective right now.
  279. >Your legs were pumping, sore and aching.
  280. >Willing them to go just a little further, you retreated into the egg chamber, the deepest part of the hollow.
  281. >Chrysalis had bled out by this point, the drones around her simply struck dumb by the loss of their leader.
  282. >A literal hive mind.
  283. >If Twilight noticed, she didn't say.
  284. "Twilight, shield spell!" You shouted.
  285. >"I'm right here, no need to yell!" She shot back, a bright pink dome popping up around you both.
  286. >You both were panting heavily, the rumbling threatening to tear the place apart.
  287. >Soon enough, it WOULD be torn apart.
  288. >You could only hope you put enough distance between it and you two to make a difference.
  289. >Looking at the Alicorn, tears of frustration and stress were streaming down her face and making her eyes bloodshot.
  290. >Her coat was matted and soaked underneath the stream, and you sighed peacefully despite it sounding like the world was ending.
  291. >You finally found her.
  292. "Hey Twi." You started calmly.
  293. >"What?"
  294. "Next time you go to Canterlot for anything, I'm going with you."
  295. >The hold you had on her became less of a carry and more of a hug.
  296. >She clutched onto you tightly.
  297. >"I wouldn't have it any other way..."
  298. >Your lips locked with hers.
  299. >The meteor split the ceiling with a deafening roar, and everything went black as the concussion knocked Twilight's shield out, and then you.
  300. ---
  301. >A steady drip was what woke you up.
  302. >Pain all along your body was what let you know you were alive.
  303. >There was a soft body nestled against you, breathing slowly.
  304. >Good, she was alive too.
  305. >You slowly cracked your eyes open, the dim bio-luminescence of various fungi and that strange sac providing a little light.
  306. >Steam and smoke from the space rock embedded in the ceiling filled the air, though it was staying high above the two of you.
  307. >Twilight groaned.
  308. >"Unngg..."
  309. >You went to move your right arm and comfort her, when a sharp stabbing pain went through your shoulder.
  310. >You almost shouted, but kept it to a low hiss.
  311. >Inspecting your shoulder, you found Twilight's horn embedded in the joint.
  312. >Fucking. Ow.
  313. >Your blood had dribbled into her mane and stained her horn, though you weren't currently bleeding.
  314. >That was liable to change when you removed Twilight from you.
  315. >For now though, you left her. Less painful that way.
  316. >"Anon...?"
  317. "Yeah, Twi...?"
  318. >"I thought...you weren't coming..."
  319. >You chuckled weakly.
  320. "C'mon Twilight...really?"
  321. >"I...was furious. I wanted to...hurt you, hurt others."
  322. >She turned her head, and her horn popped out.
  323. >You hissed, blood freely welling out of the wound.
  324. >"Anon!"
  325. "Well, you just DID." You growled, more out of pain than actual anger.
  326. >Her horn lit up once more, stemming the tide before her magic failed her completely once again.
  327. >It went from a river to a small stream, and Twilight put a hoof on the hole and maintained pressure.
  328. >A barely contained groan of pain forced its way out of your mouth.
  329. >"I'll make it better, Anon, I promise."
  330. >She gave you a sweet kiss on the cheek, returning to her care.
  331. >"I'm too wiped to heal it completely right now, but I can at least stop the bleeding. Do you mind if I tear your shirt?"
  332. "Go for it."
  333. >She shredded the sleeve, tying the strip of fabric tightly on the wound with the last dregs of her magic.
  334. >"There. Nurse Twilight Sparkle to the rescue." She cooed, snuggling against you.
  335. >It was almost as if you two weren't buried a mile underground, with no rescue in sight.
  336. >"If you're done dying for the moment..."
  337. >The mare went back to sleep almost immediately, comfortable in your grip.
  338. >Exhaustion had taken its toll on the both of you, but you couldn't sleep until you were certain you had finished bleeding.
  339. >Wouldn't do to die on Twilight now, of all times.
  340. >You looked across the room, where you had stabbed that fake.
  341. >Indeed, there was a black-plated bug with a gaping knife wound in its chest.
  342. >Not Twilight.
  343. >Her comforting heartbeat against your chest lulled you to sleep against your will.
  344. >It was the most comfortable nap you had taken in days.
  345. ---
  346. >"Down here!"
  347. >"We've found them! They're alive!"
  348. >"Thank Celestia, get them out of there!"
  349. >Sunlight coasted across your eyelids, soft and easy.
  350. >You felt yourself being lifted, and someone trying to take Twilight from you.
  351. >Like hell.
  352. >You reflexively tightened your protective embrace around her, to the point where it was fruitless for whomever was trying to take her to try.
  353. >A frustrated sigh, and the tugging on Twilight went away.
  354. >Anon one, anonymous girlfriend snatcher, zero.
  355. >"Fine buddy, you can keep her."
  356. >"Buck this guy's heavy, what does he eat?!"
  357. >"You, if you're not careful. Look at those teeth."
