- Anodyne Any% (Good Ending) Notes
- Notes by CodeGorilla
- Switch Exclusive Route
- General notes:
- 2D Movement:
- In addition to obvious stuff (diagonals are good and fast), you move slower when you have something in your tank. In general, try to inhale your target as close to the spot where you need to shoot it as possible.
- Dust Routing:
- The Switch route doesn't actually need to pay attention to dust, except for the two explicit dust grinding segments in Clonwei and New Theeland just after Dustbound Village.
- Text Skip:
- The in-game Skip Dialogue setting is very good, but note that the text actually goes slower if you're holding jump or talk. As such, don't mash through text; just let it happen naturally.
- Pausegliding:
- When you pause the game while Nova is airborne, the game resets your momentum, both vertical and horizontal. This can let you fall much slower while covering a much greater horizontal distance than would normally be possible, especially with Ridescale. Optimal performance of this strat involves a specific rhythm for pausing and unpausing based on how far horizontally you have to go and mow much vertical space you can afford to lose; each one in the game is slightly different. Mashing works, but is slower.
- Pausefloating and Savefloating:
- Exclusive to the Nintendo Switch version of the game, if you pause or interact with a 3D save egg while you have upwards momentum (e.g. right after jumping), you will float into the air, making it possible to gain infinite height. Pause-floating is more versatile, as it can be performed anywhere, but it has the downside of not being able to see where you are until you unpause, at which point you start to drop. That means you need to internalize the timing of how long you need to remain paused to get the height you need. Save floating can only be performed at a save egg, and requires text skip to be off, but it lets you see where you are which gives you a lot more control.
- Cutscene Triggers:
- High in the air outside of CCC, there is a green platform with a set of four translucent green cubes. These are cutscene triggers, and each has a different purpose. They are arranged in a pattern like this:
- ......A......B........
- ......................
- ......C...............
- ......................
- ......................
- .............D........
- A triggers the dust drop-off cutscene; if you trigger this while the prism is full or your tank is empty, you will softlock.
- B triggers the storm clearing cutscene; this will give you the upgraded vacuum as well.
- C triggers the prism repair cutscene, regardless of whether or not you have the cards.
- D has a talk prompt, and talking to it triggers the prism dive cutscene. This accomplishes nothing, unfortunately.
- See this image for reference: https://imgur.com/a/5HjMSn6
- Ridescale Clipping:
- When you tranform into Ridescale, your car is always facing directly away from the camera, regardless of what direction Nova was facing. To clip into a corner this way, hold the movement stick into the corner, then sweep the camera in the opposite direction, and transform as the camera passes through the wall. It takes some practice, especially clipping out of Great Gwom's home, but it is consistent.
- Nano Assassin Skip:
- When you enter a Nano Assassin boss fight room, you have a bit of space you can move freely in before you actually trigger the beginning of the boss fight. If you can inhale an object without leaving that space and then shoot the boss, you can run over the trigger area to start the boss while the boss is in hit stun, thereby allowing you to just stroll out the back door. This is possible on three of the five Nano Assassins: Great Gwom (using a mini-Gwom in the boss room), Misteria Waizel (the easiest one), and Bran Maligden (extremely precise, but technically doable). It *is* possible to skip the Nano Assassin in Drifting Polle; HOWEVER, skipping that cutscene results in a softlock preventing you from clearing the dust storm and getting to Blue Vale.
