  1. Elpis
  2. Type: Wisdom
  3. Background Cost: 15
  4.
  5. The spirit of Elpis is a mysterious and fickle being, rarely showing up in the same form twice and always dispensing great wisdom when she does. When she does manifest her most often repeated form is a tall and elegant woman in flowing robes, holding a clay jar, but she can look like almost anything. She is nearly impossible to draw the attention of, but if she does deem a pack acceptable, her help is invaluable, sending visions to guide the pack through their journey and aiding them in their fight against a world that seems to be against them.
  6.
  7. It is whispered among the packs of the city that Elpis has a strange and alien children of her own, not born of Gaia like every other living thing; instead they are the children of Man and powered by pure Wyld, so they say. If they exist, these children of Elpis would surely be eager to assist packs dedicated to her, for they will be free of the strange form of Delerium that follows these mystery children...
  8.
  9. Individual Traits: Elpis provides her children with insight; once a session when a child of Elpis sleeps, they will receive a vision; the storyteller rolls Wits + Primal Urge in secret, with a difficulty of the character's Rage. Two or more successes means the dreamer receives a vision containing one or more clues, and a suggestion about their interpretation provided by the Storyteller. The information is usually conveyed in brief visions of people, places or things that are somehow important to the chronicle, as determined by the Storyteller. The exact role the subjects of these visions will play remains unclear, though; the character must figure it out on their own.
  10. Pack Traits: Packs under the patronage of Elpis gain an effective additional dot of permanent Gnosis for each packmate. They lose this dot if she ever withdraws her patronage.
  11. Ban: Elpis's children must always look forward to a better tomorrow. This manifests in an interesting way; if a member of a pack devoted to Elpis falls into harano, she will remove her support from all but the depressed Shifter, and will only return it when they have helped their packmate through their tough time. If she is serving as a personal totem, she only provide visions of how pull themselves through.

  13.
  14. Dark Mother
  15. Type: Corruption
  16. Background Cost: 15
  17.
  18. The Dark Mother is a spirit few know about and even fewer would dare call upon. Some say she isn't a spirit at all, but if that were the case, how would she grant the Fallen her boons? Among the Wyrm scholars who have heard of her, this is a topic of great debate, though they only speak it in hushed tones; who knows when she could be listening?
  19.
  20. Even more obscure lore states that the Dark Mother may not be fully devoted to the Wyrm like is claimed. She only wants to be left alone, it states, tending to the strange realm she has created for herself. She has thrown off the shackles of Foebok, the Urge Wyrm of Fear she was once the Maejin Incarna of, and doesn't intend to return.
  21.
  22. Either way, she occasionally serves as a patron to dark-minded packs of Garou, never fully showing herself; the Dark Mother only ever manifests as something unseen, something formless and lurking just out of sight that fills the observer with dread. It is said that the children she birthed since fleeing the Wyrm will assist packs dedicated to her, but they will often ask a toll in turn...
  23.
  24. Individual Traits: Children of the Dark Mother gain access to the gifts Smell Fear, Spiral-Shadow Dance, and Bane Protector.
  25. Pack Traits: Packs dedicated to the Dark Mother gain access to three dots of Intimidation and three dots of Rage. Once per story, they may employ the gift Howl of the Bane.
  26. Ban: the Children of the Dark Mother must never pass up an opportunity to cause fear; even small but cruel pranks will sate her, but she must be fed.
