  1. I transmute the flesh of a magical beast that will soon become my own. The component preparation is nearly done.
  2.
  3. Horith Renvaris, who has been leading the procedure, finishes casting the last runes onto the flesh samples. His assistant Mellien starts inscribing phrases onto the floor, forming a circle around a vat with a silvery finish. Kesuva gestures towards it and looks towards me.
  4.
  5. I lift my hood and the veil covering my face. I disrobe myself, and the apprentice behind me takes the scholar's robes. On the left of me, I see Cloudfang Korin's expression suddenly changing, even though the noble was informed about the nature of my curse.
  6.
  7. I sit on my knees in the vat, and blood is poured onto me. The blood clings to the surface of my reptilian skull and shriveled scales.
  8.
  9. Horith stands in front of me and starts transmuting the flesh samples, which liquefy and form tendrils that melt onto my body. I see the flesh shifting from hues of reds to green scales.
  10.
  11. A foreign sensation runs through the parts where the scales are formed. I start losing the sense of my previous body, and I fall onto my hands, facing the pool of blood beneath me. Horith's words fade into mumble, and my vision darkens. A feeling covers my body that I can only speculate to be pain.
  12.
  13. From my earlier studies I know that I must breathe, but my lungs lock up and I start coughing blood. I feel a touch, and warmth emanates from my back. I can breathe again.
  14. That must have been a restorative spell cast by the apprentice, like the paper describes.
  15.
  16. Some words are exchanged, but all I can hear are muffled voices. It takes a moment until I get a grasp of my new senses. My thoughts and body feel so different. There's a strange taste in my mouth, and I feel weaker than with the cursed body.
  17.
  18. I hear Cloudfang's voice, "Does that make us related then?" Which is followed by Kesuva's response, "Practically, yes. Though legally not, according to Satris."
  19.
  20. The apprentice helps me to stand up and dabs my blood-covered body with a damp towel. I'm led to a chair, which is cushioned by furs and waxed canvas.
  21.
  22. My eyes focus onto Kesuva, who says to me, "Welcome back to living, Ardaath. How is it?"
  23.
  24. I try to speak, but I remember it's different now. I focus on my tongue and lips, and when I speak, a new voice comes out. "Awful."
  25.
  26. He appears to be elated despite my answer. "Good. We'll have a few checks to do, and then you can rest."
  27.
  28. I lean against the backrest as Kesuva starts inspecting me. The rest of them converse about something unimportant and start cleaning up the ritual site. The green dragonborn, Korin is still silently eyeing me from a distance.
