Reasoning: During the sermon gone wrong, Mori comes to the realization that he's opened his heart and secrets to those that were actually Demons. They had made him feel a sense of security, and had comforted him when even his friends had failed to do so. The betrayal of coming to the realization that it was a facade had embedded itself into his very heart, only for things to get far worse. His city is under siege by swathes of demonic entities, terrorizing citizens and destroying the place he calls home. His friends stood up against the demonic threat of Kusiri, only to be mutilated and harmed repeatedly before him. His attempts to talk have fallen on deaf ears, and the trauma of having to witness his friends bleeding out on the ground in a literal heap began to wear upon him mentally. He's far too aware that his lack of strength would not have changed anything, and the futility of the situation bears down upon him in full.

 Left in a state of devastation and a growing sense of despair, his pursuit of acquiring greater strength has grown even greater than it had before. The city is left in a state of disarray and destruction, and the portal itself has only grown more enlarged through their futile efforts. They were entirely out-classed, and it was apparent that they had little means to do something, without ascending to a new level of strength - of a power that could at least stand a -chance- against these threats.
