  1. Pokemon Fire Red Baton Pass% FAQ (February 2024)
  2.
  3. Q: What are you trying to do?
  4. A: Beat Pokemon Fire Red using the "Baton Pass" rules, which require you to use a different Pokemon for each major battle (gym leaders + E4).
  5.
  6. Q: What is the WR?
  7. A: 4:01:09 by Blartic77, using Leaf Green instead of Fire Red. Video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EgBa0-oQkuI
  8.
  9. Q: What is your goal?
  10. A: Sub-3.
  11.
  12. Q: What Pokemon do you use?
  13. A: See the list below, which also notes differences from the WR route. My route generally aims to catch Pokemon that are common, have a decent catch rate, present no threat of depleting my supply of balls, and win their fights reliably.
  14.
  15. BROCK: Squirtle
  16. MISTY: Oddish (WR uses Clefable)
  17. SURGE: Eevee (WR uses Dugtrio)
  18. ERIKA: Doduo
  19. KOGA: Nidoking (WR uses Haunter)
  20. SABRINA: Raticate (WR uses Snorlax)
  21. BLAINE: Dewgong (WR uses Vaporeon)
  22. GIOVANNI: Golduck (WR uses Lapras)
  23. LORELEI: Lapras + Primeape (WR uses only Primeape)
  24. BRUNO: Golbat OR Machoke (WR uses Sandslash)
  25. AGATHA: Fearow (WR uses Magneton)
  26. LANCE: Articuno (WR uses Dewgong)
  27. CHAMPION: Onix (WR uses Articuno)
  28.
  29. Q: Why use Fire Red instead of Leaf Green?
  30. A: Oddish has a much more consistent Misty fight than Bellsprout because of its higher Defense and slightly higher Special Attack, and Psyduck is far superior to Slowpoke because of its higher Speed and lower evolution level. Leaf Green has Sandslash as an option for Bruno or Champion, but it requires using the Earthquake TM that you'd prefer to teach to Onix.
  31.
  32. Q: Why are you resetting?
  33. A: Probably because my Squirtle's stats were bad.
  34.
  35. Q: What stats are you looking for?
  36. A: For Squirtle, I want 30-31 IV Sp. Attack with a +Sp. Atk nature and decent other stats. For other Pokemon, I usually just want a key stat to not be hindered, as that might cause my prepared fight to fail. I won't reset for any Pokemon's stats other than Squirtle, however.
  37.
  38. Q: Why are you checking your trainer ID at the start of the run?
  39. A: This enables me to RNG manipulate a good Squirtle, albeit with a couple of restrictions. Each ID produces a unique list of Squirtles, so by checking my ID, I'll know which Squirtles I'll get on certain frames. If there's a great Squirtle at, say, frame 4200, I'll want to select Squirtle in Prof. Oak's lab 4200 frames after my trainer ID was generated. This method is inconsistent because the RNG doesn't always advance at the same speed, so I might get Squirtle #4198 or #4202 in the example above.
