  1. No way this would have fit on Discord lol
  2.
  3. As we all know, I used FL before for about as long as I've used Ableton for now, and now going back to FL, I am constantly struck by the same annoyances:
  4.
  5. In no particular order:
  6.
  7. 1. I hate working with effect chains in FL. The defined effect slot system is outdated and inflexible (*10* effects slots? Really?). On top of this, I find routing sounds to the mixer board to be an annoyance.
  8. 2. Speaking of sounds, I don't like the separation of playlist, track and mixer. In Ableton, I can look at one track of the arrangement view and know instantly what instrument is playing what information and at what volume. With one click I can instantly view the effects layered on top of the instrument. In FL, looking at any given pattern, I have no fucking clue which instrument is playing it (you *could* use one track for one instrument, but I've actually rarely seen that done). If I click an instrument in the channel rack, I can't work out what effects are on it. I have to go looking in three separate places to get basic information. This is less of an issue now that I have an ultrawide, but it's still annoying.
  9. 3. Hey, patterns! Why not create midi clips that can host multiple layers of midi information going to different instruments? There's absolutely no way that could get confusing! Why not just put entire sections of songs as one pattern? Oh yeah, because visual separation is a thing.
  10. 4. Woo, more patterns. This one is more subjective, but I don't really like having to create new patterns using the pattern menu and then manage them all (in fact, I didn't even before switching to Ableton)
  11. 5. Because automation is on a separate track, if I solo one track to hear what's going on, the automation is disabled, and I have to manually unmute all the automation clips that might be affecting instruments on that one track.
  12. 6. Back to effect chains. Whilst VSTs share the same issue with FL, in Ableton stock effects plugins can be managed *within* the effect chain view, which is far faster and more fluid, great for making quick, on-the-fly edits.
  13. 7. FL is a maze of hidden menus and functionality. Ableton exposes almost all of its features all at once to the user, and, whilst this can be overwhelming for the newcomer, once you've most actions are only a few clicks away. Again, I find this to massive improve the speed of my workflow.
  14. 8. FL can't work out the difference between instrument VSTs and effects VSTs in the browser (except for when you actually try to use them?), wtf.
  15. 9. Smart search is unintuitive and I've not yet been able to work out how to locate multiple samples with it.
  16. 10. Editing samples in Ableton is better than FL in like every way (not least because it's actually integrated into the DAW).
  17. 11. I like Ableton's UI more lol
  18.
  19. There are a few things I like about FL though however:
  20.
  21. 1. FL's piano roll is better (though maybe not as better as people claim imo)
  22. 2. FL stock synths are insanely good (Harmor and Sytrus especially)
  23. 3. Whilst Ableton effects are generally beter than FL's, stuff like Gross Beat and Effector are really cool and we don't really have alternatives.
