We expect many of you were already aware of a planned pause on all Fast Stream (FS) programmes for 2023. However, last month the decision was taken to reinstate the 2023 programme. Therefore, each scheme needed to decide whether it would be feasible to proceed with a 2023 cohort.

As part of this, we requested indicative bids from departments to provide an informed view of demand. The returns from departments were lower than usual, therefore, we have taken this as an opportunity to review how we could strengthen and broaden our FS offer.

For 2023, data and digital learning will be further enhanced for all generalist fast streamers, any request for Fast Streamers from DDaT teams will be met from the generalist pool where appropriate, and we will not be running a separate DDaT FS Programme. Furthermore, we will bolster year 2 learning to provide opportunities to specialise in certain DDaT roles.  This approach will broaden opportunities for many more fast streamers to ultimately undertake a career within DDaT and improve equality of opportunity, as well as help address the digital skills gap across the Civil Service.

This will not affect you as current scheme participants and you will continue to receive access to tailored learning and support. If you have any questions or feedback on the current programme, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
