An account of the romance between the Maratha general, Baji Rao I and Mastani, princess of Bundelkhand.
Bajirao 1, who fought over 41 major battles and many others, was reputed never to have lost a single one of them. Bajirao is described as "RANMARD" a man made of and for the battlefield. Bajirao said to his brother "Remember that night has nothing to do with sleep. It was created by God, to raid territory held by your enemy. The night is your shield, your screen against the cannons and swords of vastly superior enemy forces. " A born cavalry leader Bajirao was unequaled for the daring and originality of his genius. Mastani, the fabled warrior princess was the daughter of Raja Chattrasal and his Persian wife Roohani Begum. An expert dancer, singer and warrior, Mastani is sent to battle at the head of the Bundelkhand army. A chance meeting on a war field where they fight on the same side, puts Bajirao and Mastani on a course of passionate love- that is unstoppable by either of their families, by war or by death itself.
I cannot stand movies made by this director. First devdas and a couple of other joke films and now this. <br/><br/>Many people might disagree with me, but these films try to capture an image of what life used to be like. However, they fail to show what it was like whatsoever. You cannot get the right clothing, scenery etc and then go ahead and promote a selfish bigamist and claim it is a love story. <br/><br/>Mugal e azam should not even be put in the same sentence as this film. It makes me sad to think what period films have become! This classic film had it all. It was so realistic and showed truth. That sort of love existed not the type that THIS movie shows. <br/><br/>I do think that many critics over value movies by certain directors. Sanjay is one of them. Some of his films have great songs but other than that he cannot direct to save his life. And can we please get some decent writers into Bollywood again? You will not beat HAKHK or DDLJ when you promote love that is not realistic!
After watching so many masala films I am proud to say Bajirao Mastani far exceeded my expectations and after a slight dull start the film flows into a dramatic experience in which I&#39;ve wanted from Bollywood. I love this film and the reception of the film is open for debate but remember a beautiful gem is only found once and Sanjay Leela- Bhansali will only make a few films in his life and Bajirao Mastani is that silver lining, not only for him but for Bollywood. Even my foreign friends loved the culture, the colors, the raw power of the film that is Bajirao Mastan<br/><br/>Bajirao was once a powerful empire and Ranveer Singh does well to show the rulers human side. We see his imperfections, his flaws, his ignorance and corniness and it&#39;s something we can connect with.<br/><br/>----------------------------------------------------
