  1. [18:59] <@Keeper> ...Patrick and Albert are taken into intensive care while Beckman is treated by merely the nurse herself, patching you up with the expertise that only comes from years of prior experience. Tommy receives the same treatment, though he is quickly visited by the industrious Bobby Ashbourne...
  2. [19:00] <@Keeper> ...He joGs in, clearly in the midst of panic, but is taken aback by Tommy's present state...
  3. [19:00] <@Keeper> ..."I, uh, are you alright Mistah Moore?" he inquires...
  4. [19:00] <@Keeper> ...Tommy pauses to think about that. "I'm fine." He replies. "Did you need something?"...
  5. [19:00] <@Keeper> ...He hesitates, aware of Tommy's condition but knowing little else than to tell and adult what's bothering him "I was riding my bike past the Lucky Clover when I heard something. I think it sounded like Miss Henry. I do. She's been missing for a couple days innit? I thought I heard an Irishman putting her the question real rough-like."...
  6. [19:00] <@Keeper> ..."Really, now?" Tommy winces as he shifts position. "Well I have some questions for someone I know then. Did you hear what was said?"...
  7. [19:00] <@Keeper> ..."Only a little bit. I heard it as I was biking past, see? What I heard was that they though she was onto their bootleggin' operation like. They asked her what she knew all brutal-like and then took her out of town up north out of town toward Innsmouth."...
  8. [19:01] <@Keeper> ..."I'll definitely have to see to a contact of mine about this, then. Thanks for the heads up, Bobby."...
  9. [19:01] <@Keeper> ...He shakes his head "But I don't think they am to kill 'er. At least not quick-like cause she might know something, see?...
  10. [19:02] <@Keeper> ...Tommy relaxes a little. "That's...good. The first part at least...
  11. [19:02] <@Keeper> ..."Yeah, they talked about taking her to the old Babson place on the outskirts of Innsmouth" he informs, almost apologetically. "I don't know what they mean to do to her up there..."
  12. [19:15] <@Keeper> Her voice is breathy and sensual, but discordant like sweet honeyed nothings being played through a damaged gramophone. "The innermost thoughts of all men and gods come to me. I can tell you anything, provided it isn't a secret. You can have those too. But you have to pay for them." Her mouth is too wide, her teeth are too small, she's simply too tall, but she carries herself like a...
  13. [19:15] <@Keeper> ...jaundiced baroness.
  14. [19:18] <@Keeper> Memories of her are fleeting. It feels like they've been together for weeks but it could have been hours or years. Hartman remembers her face filling his entire vision and wrapping around his peripheries, leaning in for a kiss. This isn't the first time.
  15. [19:19] <@Keeper> It hurts just as much, his lips are aflame with a pain that metastasizes like cancer throughout his body and builds to an agonizing climax before concentrating in his brachial artery.
  16. [19:20] <@Keeper> His eyes flutter open and the face is Ellen Whipple Smith's. She rears back in surprise, holding an IV that was mid-placement in Hartman's arm.
  17. [19:21] <@Keeper> "You're awake!" she gasps. So you are.
  18. [19:22] <@Prof_Hartman> "Wh...where am I?"
  19. [19:24] <@Keeper> "The, uh, teaching hospital. I...I...have to tell a doctor."
  20. 06[19:24] * @Prof_Hartman attempts to move to sit up but finds himself much weaker than he remembers "Awake...how long have I been here?"
  21. [19:26] <@Keeper> "Three days. You suffered a pretty major head wound. You were shot, but the bullet glanced off your skull, it mostly just jostled your brain around in your skull."
  22. [19:26] <@Keeper> She grabs the IV pole and shuffles out of the room, middle aged and flustered.
  23. [19:27] <@Keeper> Your head is bandaged and your arm still stings, but all in all you feel fine.
  24. 06[19:27] * @Prof_Hartman looks around the room as he begins remembering the events "Right...London."
  25. [19:30] <@Keeper> Soon, Doctor Waldron comes to check on you scribbling something hurriedly on a clipboard as he does "Professor Hartman! Welcome back to the land of the living. It's not often there's a shooting in Arkham."
  26. [19:30] <@Keeper> "Damnable luck it was you that had to" he chuckles "bite the bullet on that one."
  27. [19:31] <@Prof_Hartman> "I just hope I haven't lost much of my hairline from that. Was anyone else hurt? Did they catch the man with the gun?"
  28. [19:34] <@Keeper> "Ah, yes, the enigmatic Professor London. He's been committed to the Arkham Sanitarium. No, nobody else was hurt by him but some of your friends have landed themselves in the hospital once again..."
  29. [19:34] <@Keeper> "An animal attack," he says with some skepticism.
  30. 06[19:35] * @Prof_Hartman rubs his temples "If I didn't know any better, i'd say trouble is following me."
  31. [19:36] <@Keeper> "Rumor has it that London was yelling something similar before he opened fire. A self-fulfilling prophet, that one."
  32. [19:40] <@Prof_Hartman> "Well I suppose I should ask the important question now. What is my own status?"
  33. [19:40] <@Keeper> "Anyway, your head wound and the cuts from the glass have all healed nicely. The only concern is any internal damage that you may have sustained from the force of the bullet."
  34. [19:41] <@Keeper> "As far as we know there isn't any. But it's possible that symptoms like light-headedness, seizures, or damage to short term memory may present themselves. Are you feeling alright now?"
  35. [19:42] <@Prof_Hartman> "Despite some odd dreams I'd say I feel like new."
  36. [19:44] <@Keeper> "That's good. I'd like to keep you under observation, but of course you're free to check yourself out if you desire. Just don't skip town because I'd like to follow up on you. At the very least tell someone so I know you didn't fall into some sort of disassociative fugue."
  37. [19:44] <@Prof_Hartman> "Will do. I don't suppose I could visit my friends here. By the way, how is their condition?"
  38. [19:49] <@Keeper> "Your reporter friend and the Irishman are both torn up, but it's nothing life-threatening. Especially not now that they've received treatment. They also came in with a doctor colleague of mine, Doctor Weaver, who is hurt pretty badly. He was the man who stabilized you so I'd say you owe him a thank you."
  39. [19:50] <@Keeper> "Mr. Beckman drove them in, but seemed fine himself. Anyway, yes, feel free to visit them." He scribbles down the room number for you.
  40. [19:50] <@Prof_Hartman> "I appreciate it."
  41. [19:52] <@Keeper> A short hobble later, Hartman finds himself in a room with three beds and two familiar faces. Plus Albert Weaver.
  42. [19:53] <@Prof_Hartman> "Well if this isn't a room full of sunshine. How are you gentlemen?"
  43. [19:57] <@Patrick> "Oi'm a rehy o' soon shine, Proof'essor." The giant Irishman speaks in a chipper tone.
  44. [19:58] <@Tommy> "I've been better. Enjoy your nap? I could've sworn it was a dirt nap, from the looks of it."
  45. 06[19:59] * @Beckman walks in a bit late. "Hello, sorry, I checked by the post office to see if they have my response from the professor I asked about that dagger. Seems... pertinent, considering what transpired of late. If you get my gist, boys."
  46. [20:00] <@Patrick> "Lookit wee Tahhmy, cracking jokes. Loike a split in the arse." Patrick seemed ready to bullshit after the whole underground monsters attack.
  47. [20:00] <@Albert> "Seems only right, considering it saved our skin." Albert nods, head parked on a fluffy pillow.
  48. [20:00] <@Tommy> "Yeah, yeah, I get you." Tommy groans a bit as he resettles in the bed, sore from recent events.
  49. 01[20:00] <@Beckman> "You're doing better though, I see. Eh? Good thing SOME of the public services in town are up to par. Are you eating well?"
  50. [20:01] <@Prof_Hartman> "I'm almost afraid to ask but what has transpired these days? Any good finds at that auction?"
  51. [20:02] <@Tommy> "You could say that. Nightmarish stuff. I'm only sleeping well because Patrick and Beckman there saved my skin."
  52. [20:03] <@Keeper> A copy of the Arkham Gazette sits on a nearby table with a front page headline reading "HOVEL OF HORROR". It discusses how an anonymous tip last night led police to discover an apartment belonging to a shifty Hun named Klaus Hunderprest, filled with satanic paraphernalia and a hidden room leading down into an underground den that seems to have been the site of ritual sacrifice. Though...
  53. [20:03] <@Keeper> ...Hunderprest himself had fled before police arrived they discovered a set of cages with a dead man, most likely a transient, freshly and hurriedly killed in one of them. Hidden caches of jewelry throughout the house suggest he was also the culprit behind the recent grave robberies in the area.
  54. 06[20:06] * @Tommy grabs the paper, having already read the front during his stay, and checks the horoscopes.
  55. [20:06] <@Albert> "I'll keep that in mind next time I have to patch you up." Albert remarks, rolling over with a groan.
  56. [20:09] <@Tommy> "Yes, you saved me too, Albert. I owe my life to each and every man in this room." Tommy looks up from the paper. "Even you, Hartman."
  57. 06[20:09] * @Albert suddenly looks up and over his shoulder. "Hartman... Oh right!"
  58. [20:10] <@Prof_Hartman> "My skull has proven quite useful it seems."
  59. 06[20:10] * @Albert struggles to sit up, still covered by a thick layer of blankets. "I remember you, we actually met. Although ahh... you were in a coma and my hands were covered in your blood."
  60. [20:11] <@Prof_Hartman> "Are you Dr. Weaver?"
  61. 06[20:11] * @Albert nods, "You'll forgive me for not standing up." He extends his hand nonetheless, revealing a horrible scar trailing from his collarbone.
  62. [20:12] <@Albert> *as he leans forward.
  63. 06[20:14] * @Prof_Hartman takes the hand gently "Pleasure to meet you. Professor John Hartman. I owe you my life it seems."
  64. 06[20:15] * @Albert nods with a growing smile. "Nurse Smith probably had more of a hand in it than I did." Seemingly still exhausted, Albert lies back down.
  65. 06[20:15] * @Tommy waves to the others with his better arm, pointing at the door and mouthing "someone's there".
  66. 06[20:16] * @Prof_Hartman opens the door
  67. [20:17] <@Keeper> Speak of the devil. It's Nurse Smith is standing on the other side of the door. "Ah, I see you've found your friends."
  68. [20:19] <@Prof_Hartman> "Yes ma'am. They are all rosy and pleased to be here it seems."
  69. [20:19] <@Prof_Hartman> "Can I help you with something?"
  70. [20:20] <@Keeper> "No, no. Just making the rounds." She reaches up and taps the clipboard in the plastic cubby handing on the door. "I'll leave you to it then, dear."
  71. [20:23] <@Patrick> "So- now what? Is all o' that crazy adventurin' over?"
  72. [20:23] <@Albert> "Nothing but rest and relaxation."
  73. [20:23] <@Tommy> "Not exactly."
  74. [20:24] <@Tommy> "One of my co-workers has been kidnapped." He looks over to Patrick. "By an irishman, maybe someone you might know?"
  75. [20:25] <@Tommy> "Apparently Miss Henry, that's the coworker by the way, was onto some illegal operation they were doing. And took her up north towards Innsmouth."
  76. [20:29] <@Prof_Hartman> "Have you contacted the authorities yet?"
  77. [20:29] <@Albert> "Yes, call the police." Albert mutters.
  78. [20:29] <@Tommy> "You mean the ones who couldn't find a fat, rotting man stealing from a cemetery nearly every night?"
  79. 06[20:33] * @Albert sighs, "To be fair, we failed to capture him as well."
  80. [20:34] <@Patrick> "Just coz they're OIrish doesn't mean I know em boi their first names-" Patrick starts to get up in a huff, but can't exactly act as if he didn't know the men who had taken her in question. "Oi'm- well- Maybe I know.""
  81. [20:35] <@Patrick> "But just cause I know don't mean I'll go flappin' moi mouth about it."
  82. [20:35] <@Patrick> "If I do know."
  83. [20:39] <@Tommy> "Well, I doubt calling the cops is going to be useful, now that I think about it. Considering they're like an irish version of the mafia, they've got to have cops on their payroll. Groups like that don't survive long without bribing the boys in blue."
  84. [20:39] <@Tommy> "So no, I can't really leave this to the cops."
  85. [20:39] <@Patrick> "Callin' the cops? Only good that'll do you is exercoise yer lungs."
  86. [20:40] <@Albert> "So..." Albert sits up again. "You want to take on the mafia."
  87. [20:41] <@Tommy> "Take on? Yeah fuck that. I'm interested in saving my co-worker."
  88. [20:42] <@Tommy> "Besides, after what we've been through, getting shot will be a happier experience."
  89. [20:42] <@Albert> "What'd they do to piss off the mob anyways? Why Innsmouth? Isn't it just some shitty little fishing community?"
  90. [20:43] <@Prof_Hartman> "I'm going to be honest. I am not sure I support this decision. I'm a professor, not some kind of renegade soldier."
  91. [20:44] <@Tommy> "I don't know, she was onto some...bootlegging operation or something."
  92. 06[20:46] * @Albert shrugs. "It just doesn't sound like a good idea... I mean, are you two... you know..."
  93. [20:47] <@Tommy> "Look. I know it's insane, but I'm not going to let my coworker get killed."
  94. [20:48] <@Tommy> "If you guys don't want to come with. That's smart. That's sane."
  95. [20:48] <@Tommy> "But I'm going."
  96. [20:49] <@Patrick> "Oi'm a little uh-" Patrick seems to shift where he currently sat. "Maybe Oi can talk to them?"
  97. [20:50] <@Tommy> "Look, if you can get her not killed, that'd be great."
  98. 06[20:51] * @Prof_Hartman sighs "Alright i'll help but I will only do it if your promise that we leave a tip for the authorities when we arrive."
  99. [20:51] <@Albert> "I'm gonna need well, a little reprieve."
  100. [20:59] <@Keeper> You could leave today, you're all able to travel and it isn't too far. You'll need to either drive yourselves or take the bus that runs the route twice daily.
  101. [21:01] <@Keeper> Either way, the place is fairly well known and is located on a stretch of beach just south of Innsmouth about one mile from city limits.
  102. 01[21:05] <@Beckman> The blood is still being cleaned from the upholstry in the Cadillac, so James brings the lads in his Model T. North, north is the destination.
  103. 01[21:06] <@Beckman> The talk is generally short and tense from Beckman's side. He was clearly nervous about going up there, but there was that core of goodness and self-defeating curiosity driving the car alongside him.
  104. 06[21:07] * @Albert busies himself with beginning to decipher the 'Liber Tenebrae' taken from Wunderpreste hellish dungeon.
  105. [21:11] <@Keeper> All in all it's a beautiful October drive. The leaves are beginning to turn but there's still quite a bit of green left in the rolling hills of the Miskatonic Valley. The road lolls to the northeast and eventually you come to a four-way intersection, at the corner of which stands a hitch hiker, steadily walking up toward the intersection. He's hobbled and leans heavily on one of his...
  106. [21:11] <@Keeper> ...crutches. When he hears you driving by he stops and turns toward the road, extending a thumb and gazing at you with pleading eyes.
  107. 01[21:14] <@Beckman> "Aw, how can I not..."
  108. 06[21:15] * @Beckman slows down to talk to the man. "You lost, pal?"
  109. 06[21:17] * @Albert grumbles as he fails to make any headway with the book. "That bastard is still messing with me."
  110. [21:18] <@Prof_Hartman> "Now now it isn't that complicated. Here let me show you."
  111. [21:23] <@Keeper> The book is obtuse, the language is obscure as Latin can get and it's mostly shrouded in allegory. The title literally is the Book of Shadows, but the shadows that it pertains to seem to be various forms of the afterlife. It begins with conventional religious interpretations before going into more exotic theories on the subject. After some discourse on the theory behind death it starts to...
  112. [21:23] <@Keeper> ...become something more akin to formulae. The more abstract it gets, the more apparently tenuous the author's grasp on reality seems to become.
  113. [21:25] <@Albert> "I'm beginning to hope we never see that man again." Albert mutters. "Maybe some keen buyer will enjoy adding it to his collection."
  114. [21:25] <@Keeper> It starts to talk about the purity of blood, the corruption of death, and the cleansing effect of fire. Fire is a common theme in many forms of the afterlife, though often only pertaining the dead men who are unclean in some way.
  115. [21:25] <@Keeper> And then you come to a section on alchemy that has an illustration of the brass head.
  116. [21:27] <@Albert> "Ah, now that's more familiar." Albert adds, pointing at the brass head. "It was coated in extremely flammable ooze... Guess that's where the fire comes in."
  117. [21:28] <@Keeper> The hitchhiker is a youngish man, but is weatherbeaten and salty. He wears a long coat over a turtleneck and seem to be prematurely balding. When you pull up beside him he leans closer to get a good look at you "You don't look like you're from Innsmouth..." he exhales with apparent relief. "No, I'm not lost just on my way to Falcon Point. You headed that way?"
  118. 01[21:30] <@Beckman> "We're headed toward Falcon Point, yes. Why, not keen on Innsmouth types?"
  119. [21:34] <@Keeper> "Queer folks. They're secretive and they keep it in the family, if you catch my drift. Folks like that got a taint about 'em. Even the ones that mean well."
  120. [21:34] <@Tommy> "Aaaah. I get you. The worst parts of rural mentality."
  121. 01[21:37] <@Beckman> "Ugh. You'd think they'd be more open to outsiders, being an oceanside town. Well, if you're off to Falcon Point, I suppose we can take you on. Get in the back. Gents, think you can help with his... er, luggage?"
  122. [21:37] <@Keeper> He nods "Used to be a nice place is the tragedy of it." He shrugs "But if you're headed that way, you mind if I...?" he gestures at your back seat.
  123. 06[21:38] * @Prof_Hartman gives the book back to Albert and assists the traveler "Come on in."
  124. [21:38] <@Keeper> "Ah, thanks pal! Robert Waite is the name." He quickly hobbles to the seat he's offered, as if he expects you to take off without him if he doesn't hurry.
  125. [21:39] <@Keeper> "What's your business in Falcon, anyway? Ain't much there but fishin'."
  126. 01[21:42] <@Beckman> "Have a gal what needs saving. You know, an old story in the modern day."
  127. 06[21:44] * @Prof_Hartman clears his throat "Probably not something we should be advertising."
  128. [21:44] <@Keeper> "From fisherman? Or is she just drowning slow?" he jokes.
  129. [21:46] <@Tommy> "More the latter than the former."
  130. [21:47] <@Tommy> "What about you Robert? What's your story?"
  131. [21:54] <@Keeper> "Just a fisherman from Boynton Beach. I live and work in Falcon and sell my catches to packing houses in Newburyport, Rockport, and Ipswich. Innsmouth is closest but all us at Falcon more or less shun them. It's not just the incest either. They don't follow the righteous Word of God either, but some heathen business that is no proper religion. And were we so inclined they've no need for fish...
  132. [21:54] <@Keeper> ...anyway."
  133. [21:55] <@Albert> "How'd that happen?" Albert asks, pointing to the crutches and his leg.
  134. [21:59] <@Keeper> "Took a nasty spill off of a cliff. It's all rocky cliff face north of the beach and it's all quite precarious." He nods to reaffirm his own point. "I like to take walks up and down the beach. It's meditative and you get to know the area pretty well. Good country, especially this time of year."
  135. [22:01] <@Keeper> You come to another intersection, this time Falcon will be out of your way. Falcon Point is straight on to the east and the old Babson Mansion is to the north.
  136. [22:03] <@Prof_Hartman> "Well you are familiar with the area, yes? Know anything about the Babson Mansion?"
  137. 06[22:04] * @Patrick takes a moment to tilt his head before giving the others in the group a quick, silent nod. This man was- surprisingly telling the truth it seemed.
  138. [22:06] <@Albert> Satisfied, Albert places the Libre Tenebrae back inside his bookbag. "One down..." He mutters quietly.
  139. [22:06] <@Keeper> "Aye, I know of it. Old Ephraim Babson's place. Mean ol' cuss he was, and a bit of a recluse. I reckon he went senile because during the big hurricane in 1912 he went for a swim out in the sea and we never heard from him again. Crabs must have got the body..."
  140. [22:07] <@Keeper> "Anyway, once the house seemed abandoned folks picked over the good stuff and now it's just full of junk. Tramps come and go but it's been twenty years since someone lived in it proper."
  141. [22:08] <@Prof_Hartman> "Good to know. Well It would appear we have to part ways here as our destination is elsewhere."
  142. [22:08] <@Tommy> "So an abandoned mansion, like one would see in a dime novel or something."
  143. [22:10] <@Keeper> "Are you headed there or something?" he asks, realizing the intersection you've just stopped at.
  144. [22:10] <@Prof_Hartman> "It would appear so."
  145. [22:13] <@Keeper> "Oh, uh, okay..." He opens the door, gathers up his crutches, and steps out. Before you part ways, he hesitates "Hey, uh, thanks for the ride. And there's a spotlight up on the widow walk so...not so abandoned I guess. Whoever it is sometimes does signals like Morse code or something out to sea."
  146. [22:14] <@Keeper> He shrugs "Just watch out."
  147. 06[22:17] * @Tommy mutters as he leaves. "Do any of us know Morse Code?"
  148. [22:20] <@Albert> "Let's just focus on your friend for now."
  149. [22:20] <@Albert> "I miss my hospital bed already." Albert adds, fishing around in his bookbag.
  150. [22:26] <@Keeper> Isolated and abandoned, the Babson Mansion comes into view perched atop a bluff, looking east to the sea across overgrown gardens and a crumbling fountain. It is a large Georgian house, with hipped roof, cupola, and a railed widow's walk atop the peak of the roof. It is two stories and many of the windows are broken; a corner of the room has been blown away and shutters swing idly in the wind.
  151. [22:27] <@Albert> "This is seriously where they're holding up?" Albert queries. "Good luck."
  152. [22:32] <@Prof_Hartman> "So the plan is simply hope Patrick knows these men?"
  153. [22:33] <@Albert> "It's pretty stupid now that we're all the way here, isn't it?"
  154. 06[22:35] * @Prof_Hartman pats his coat jacket "Just make sure you are ready for anything I suppose."
  155. 01[22:35] <@Beckman> "If it's any consolation, he's a pretty hard guy to forget."
  156. [22:35] <@Patrick> "Oi'm not pahrticulahr to this plan myself, but it's not like I don't know them. Which OI'm not saying I do- buht if I did, then maybe I can talk it out. Probably."
  157. [22:36] <@Tommy> "See? Patrick's a likeable guy."
  158. [22:36] <@Prof_Hartman> "Patrick was never the issue here."
  159. 06[22:36] * @Albert nods, "He's risking his neck for your friend. So I hope she'll play ball. Right?"
  160. [22:42] <@Keeper> As Beckman pulls up to the house he makes out a figure moving on the widows walking and messing with a large contraption that he quickly realizes is a spotlight when it suddenly snaps on and beams blindingly down at him. The figure, just a silhouette from your perspective, steps away from the light and raises some sort of lever action rifle down at your car.
  161. [22:43] <@Keeper> *aimed down at your car
  162. [22:43] <@Tommy> "Jesus." Tommy mutters, squinting to unblind himself.
  163. [22:44] <@Prof_Hartman> "Better say something before things get out of hand."
  164. [22:46] <@Keeper> "Cahm on! Stehp on owt of yer mohtercar afore I put a bullet square threw yer whindshield glass square-like!"
  165. [22:48] <@Patrick> "Oi, yer blinding me!" Patrick calls out- opening the door to step out of the car. Whatever form of suspension likely letting the vehicle raise back up half an inch. Shading his eyes, he waves a heavy arm above his head.
  166. [22:52] <@Patrick> "Oi got some blokes in the cahr. Not pahrt ov our group, but they helped me in a spot. Try not ta go shootin' just yet."
  167. 06[22:52] * @Beckman shouts back, "What he said! God almighty, could have blinded me while I was driving!"
  168. [22:53] <@Keeper> "Waht's this? Issit Patrick? Waht're yew ahp to all the way out 'ere wif a buncha toe-raggers? Did O'Bannion say it was alroight tah bring strangers 'ere?"
  169. 06[22:54] * @Albert slouches farther and farther down, trying to keep Beckman and the seat as a nice shield.
  170. [22:56] <@Tommy> "What the hell is a toe-ragger?" Tommy whispers.
  171. [22:56] <@Patrick> "Well no- buht Oy thought mebbe we don't tell O'Bannion if what we came to talk about doesn't work out. Oy don't want to go yelling about it though outsoide loik this."
  172. 01[23:00] <@Beckman> "Sounds like some UK term. Who knows."
  173. [23:01] <@Keeper> "Oi'm supposta be keepin' watch. Leary'll put me in a sling if oi cahm down."
  174. 01[23:02] <@Beckman> "Hey, Patrick, isn't a spotlight kind of obvious for some kind of secret compound?"
  175. [23:06] <@Patrick> "Oh feck off- we bohf know this is a roight piss-poor secret. Tha point is Oy don't want ta go yellin' about stuhf out in the open."
  176. [23:11] <@Patrick> "At least meet uhs in the front room. Oy want to discuss a-... sensitive type ov situation we have about uhm- a guest."
  177. [23:14] <@Keeper> "Yeh, yeh, alroight. I'll meet yah down there. Door is unlocked."
  178. [23:14] <@Keeper> He shuts off the spotlight and throws a tarp over it, slinging his rifle over his shoulder and withdrawing inside the house somewhere.
  179. [23:15] <@Albert> "So far so good..."
  180. [23:17] <@Patrick> "So fahr- but Oi'm still worried you're going ta leave here disappointed... or worse, you leave here with the girl and she remembers me."
  181. [23:20] <@Keeper> The entry hall is desolate and nearly looted empty but for cobwebs and a broken hatstand in pieces next to the door. Two wings stretch out on either side of Patrick that lead to a number of different doors and muddy footprints lead across the room to sets of stairs on the other side, one that leads up and one that leads down. Footsteps echo from the upstairs as Dexter descends and soon steps...
  182. [23:20] <@Keeper> ...into the room, pausing and leaning against the bannister. "Alroight. We're insoide now."
  183. [23:25] <@Patrick> "Roight- so, Oy just want to know what we're doing about the snoop frohm-..." He counts on his fingers. "Three days ago? Oy was in a rough spot o' truhble and one o' her..." Patrick glanced back at his group. "Co-workers?- heard a rumor."
  184. [23:29] <@Keeper> "Well, fahr ah whoile Eddie was troiyin ta get her to talk about waht she knew and tah get her tah give it up, but he is ahv an incloination tah go easy on the wimmenfolk so's the boss had tah call in Vinnie and Gina."
  185. [23:32] <@Keeper> "So's she spilled her gahts about what she knew which was pretty much all of it. Doesn't look like she's gahnna give up the story tho. I think it's gonna have to be cahrtains fer the lass."
  186. [23:32] <@Patrick> "Vinne and Gina?" Patrick momentarily winced. The minute you let another woman have at it, that little hang-up on not harming a lady was tossed out the window. "Can't we juhst go an' scare her mouth shut?"
  187. [23:35] <@Patrick> "Did she say she would keep troying fer the story or were you listening to those two whack-jobs? It's fuhkin Vinnie and Gina. They're Italians fer Chroist's sake."
  188. [23:35] <@Keeper> "We've been given it the old college troi. Scarin' ain't gahnna work so's tomorrow we was movin' onto actually hurtin' her as a last resahrt before actually killin' er..."
  189. [23:36] <@Keeper> "I don't roightly know. I jahst keep lookout."
  190. [23:36] <@Patrick> "Shite, who's in charge here roight now?"
  191. [23:38] <@Keeper> "Eddie is here. Either on the Goddess or abarhd the Goddess. It's in the pier roight nahw."
  192. [23:40] <@Patrick> "Roight. I can track em down. Uhnless you got someone else doin' look out while we were chatting."
  193. [23:41] <@Keeper> "Nope. I gahtta get back up there so's to keep an eye on yer friends in the cahr."
  194. [23:43] <@Patrick> "Roight. Try ta not spook em- and no fancy trick shots while I'm lookin fer Eddie." Patrick was really just delaying talking to Eddie for the moment but eventually moved to head towards the docks, taking a quick route through the abandoned home.

  216. [18:52] <@Keeper> "Roight. Try ta not spook em- and no fancy trick shots while I'm lookin fer Eddie." Patrick was really just delaying talking to Eddie for the moment but eventually moved to head towards the docks, taking a quick route through the abandoned home.
  217. [18:56] <@Keeper> Dexter nods a take a swig from his hip flask, shouldering his rifle. "Best ahv luck to yeh" he wishes with a nod before turning around and starting his trek up the stairs back to the roof. The stairs down to the basement are on the opposite side of the same wall, nominally where Patrick wants to go but for the moment Patrick is unattended in the Babson Mansion and the investigators in the...
  218. [18:56] <@Keeper> ...car are uncovered by snipers.
  219. 06[18:58] * @Patrick considers getting a belt before heading for the ship, but this whole situation stunk. Lumbering along, the large Irish man wastes no time heading for the back door.
  220. 06[18:59] * @Tommy leans forward in the car, squinting his eyes. "Are they still watching us?"
  221. 06[19:00] * @Tommy looks to Beckman and Albert. "You think we can get out now? I haven't heard any shouting or shooting from inside."
  222. 06[19:00] * @Albert peers up from his reading material, "I'd probably wait for Patrick to ask for us."
  223. [19:00] <@Albert> "This is his show, don't forget."
  224. 01[19:02] <@Beckman> "Leave the Irish to the Irish, right? After surviving... those things, I'm not keen on dying to some punks with guns on us."
  225. [19:02] <@Patrick> Unless stopped, Patrick will wonder the same steps usually taken for a bit of innocent smuggling towards what may possibly be turning into an execution. It's never been a line he wanted to cross, but maybe it was just an inevitability.
  226. [19:02] <@Tommy> "Fair enough, I just don't like having to sit in a car when I could be doing something."
  227. [19:04] <@Albert> "You want your friend to be back safe and sound, we understand."
  228. [19:04] <@Keeper> Save for the stairs that creak with every step Patrick takes there is little to rot in the basement owing to it being mostly stone, so it has held up much better than what you've seen of the house so far. Music plays faintly from a radio in the cellar, reverberating from the walls through the damp air. It smells faintly of salt from the sea water outside. The first room is perhaps forty by...
  229. [19:04] <@Keeper> ...sixty, a two chambered room separated by stone arches. A half-dozen cots sit down here, all fresh and new next to a small table with set up for poker.
  230. 03[19:04] * Keeper changes topic to 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8o6sENkg58'
  231. [19:05] <@Albert> "I don't know Patrick as well as you two, what'll he do if they don't free your friend? If he can't smooth things over?"
  232. [19:08] <@Tommy> "It's his people. Maybe peacefully leave if they let him. He might me irish but he's got a good head on his shoulders. The problem is what to do if they don't let her go in the first place."
  233. [19:08] <@Keeper> There are two doors on the east wall and one open tunnel on the west, from which the sound of surf can be heard. The table is not empty, two individuals sit there and turn when Patrick steps into view. One is a svelte gentleman in a tailored suit and a pencil thin mustache and the other is a pale dark haired woman with vivid green eyes. Patrick recognizes them immediately as Vinnie Fazuli...
  234. [19:08] <@Keeper> ...and Gina Lorenzo.
  235. 01[19:09] <@Beckman> "He's a good guy. He'll come through."
  236. [19:09] <@Patrick> This music was... not exactly what Patrick would have preferred, but it seemed like someone enjoyed this garbage here. Upon seeing the two, Patrick immediately knew who had chosen this music. "Vinner. Gina."
  237. [19:12] <@Keeper> Vinnie stands, snatching his switchblade from it's place stabbed into the tabletop and depositing it into his pocket while flaring his other arm to dramatically doff his hat like a vaudeville performer. A smile starts to play at the edge of his mouth like an actor who has been cast in a juicy role. "O'Donnell! What a treat. You don't get up this way often." Gina simply bats her eyes at the...
  238. [19:12] <@Keeper> ...Irishman.
  239. [19:13] <@Keeper> Vinnie moves to intercept Patrick, body language all friendly. "What brings you to our little slice of paradise, old boy?"
  240. [19:17] <@Patrick> "Oh you know how it goes. I get a wee itch to cohm a knockin'. Drop ohn in and take a peep about the place- catch up, 'ave a belt, talk wi't the boss- make sure tha two o' you aven't set foire to tha whole place to dance around."
  241. [19:20] <@Keeper> He lifts his finger to his face and begins to twirls in his mustache absent-mindedly "Oh no, we wouldn't do that. Not until we figure out who owns it and have it insured, anyway..."
  242. [19:25] <@Keeper> The sound of a human voice yelling something that Patrick can't quite make out comes from one of the doors behind him along the eastern wall. "I believe that's your cue, bella" Vinnie calls back to Gina, who picks up a meat cleaver from the surface of the table and starts toward the door. "A gals gotta make a living" she quips, opening the door to what looks like a wine cellar based on the...
  243. [19:25] <@Keeper> ...sliver of it that Patrick sees as she walks in. She shuts the heavy oaken door behind her.
  244. [19:27] <@Patrick> "Why do I get tha feeling she's not going to make you a nice sandwich ohr somethin' with that?"
  245. [19:30] <@Keeper> He gives Patrick a friendly pat on the arm and starts toward the door keen to not miss whatever it is "Because you've got good instincts, Patrick." A few steps later he pauses "You DO have good instincts...."
  246. [19:31] <@Keeper> "Hey, Patrick, hows about you come in here and try your hand at something?"
  247. 03[19:31] * Whatever (SamuraiBat@ihw-57cof5.ip.windstream.net) has joined #arkham
  248. 06[19:32] * @Patrick takes a deep breath and moves to follow- speaking up after a pause. "Dohs Eddie know what the two o' you ahr doing?"
  249. [19:33] <@Keeper> "Oh yeah, he knows. He's doesn't like it though so he's been out on the boat outta some sense of chivalry or something." He shrugs.
  250. 03[19:35] * Whatever is now known as Mary
  251. [19:39] <@Keeper> "So how about it, Patrick? You want to take a ride with us? Through our world?" His eyes dance with sadistic implications.
  252. [19:43] <@Patrick> "Boyo- I don't loik it." Patrick has a very obvious, gruff, warning tone in his voice. "Tell ye wee lass to hold it in while I talk to Eddie first."
  253. [19:53] <@Keeper> The facade of joviality immediately dissipates and his mouth curls into a sneer. "I'll pass it on. But don't take too long, she's got a mind of her own." He twirls back toward the door and wrenches it open, stomping it and slamming it with barely restrained anger.
  254. [19:53] <@Keeper> The sound of waves crashing against the shore is more distinct now that Patrick is alone in the room. The pier is through the cavern along the western wall.
  255. [19:58] <@Patrick> Somewhat relieved, Patrick moved for the boat- walking at double his usual pace in a a bit of a hurry. The sooner he cleared this up with Eddie, the better.
  256. [20:03] <@Keeper> The Sea Goddess is moored out on the peer, bobbing gently in the water having unloaded its alcoholic stock. Eddie Leary leans against the railing on the side of the ship, a few steps beside the Browning Automatic Rifle mounted on the prow. He smoke idly but straightens his posture, clearly surprised but unable to yell for the old knife wound on his throat.
  257. [20:08] <@Patrick> Patrick have one of his hands, strolling quickly towards Eddie to make conversation easier. "We need ta talk about the lass from earlier before thos two spaghetti fucks start choppin' her ta bits."
  258. [20:10] <@Keeper> "Don't...like it." He sniffs, takes one last drag off his smoke, and flicks it into the sea. "The girl....what about her?" He struggles to get his words out; they're pretty rough.
  259. [20:12] <@Patrick> "I have a favor ta ask fer a friend o' mine. You give me the girl, Oi take her, convince her to shut her mouth on this, and we get ta go to bed still feelin' loik decent folk."
  260. [20:15] <@Keeper> "Can you...convince her? She is...spirited." He pauses, the first part of what Patrick said catching up to him. "What friend?"
  261. [20:22] <@Patrick> "I got in some... strange business lookin' at spooked houses and chasin' down some grave robbin' whack job..." Patrick pauses momentarily, not exactly sure whether to speak about the monsters. People might think he was crazy. Scratching the back of his neck he continues- leaving out certain details. "Nearly got done in by the weird fuck's mates in a dug out basement."
  262. [20:22] <@Patrick> "He ain't Oirish, but Oi trust him a helluva lot mohr than those I-talians."
  263. [20:25] <@Keeper> "Not exactly...up to me. I can...give Danny a call." He crosses his arms "But...I don't think he'll....like it."
  264. [20:27] <@Keeper> "Is your friend...here?"
  265. [20:30] <@Patrick> "Let's pretend fer now he ain't here."
  266. [20:34] <@Keeper> Leary glowers, folding his arms in clear displeasure "Ain't...how it works. Get him down here while I....go make the phone call."
  267. [20:35] <@Keeper> "Or....I can have Vinnie....fetch him."
  268. [20:40] <@Patrick> "Vinnie and the she-witch ain't going ta wait fer us to 'ave a noice chat." Patrick warns. "Saw her practically all o'flutter with a butcher knoife. Do we got time fer this?"
  269. [20:42] <@Keeper> "We make time." He hops off the deck and onto the pier, landing with a heavy thud and heading back into the cellar.
  270. [20:45] <@Keeper> Heading over to the wine cellar, he raps on the door with a meaty fist once and Vinnie quickly opens it. "Guests upstairs...bring them here" Leary orders, and Vinnie promptly complies.
  271. [20:52] <@Keeper> Soon you're all lined up in the cellar, under the guard of Vinnie, Gina, and Dexter while Eddie makes his phone call somewhere upstairs. The two Italians seem faintly amused by the situation. "Ohhh, Patrick. You've been a bad boy, haven't you? Bringing outsiders here and all" Gina coos at the Irishman.
  272. [20:53] <@Keeper> "Why don't you introduce us to your new friends, Patrick?"
  273. 06[21:02] * @Beckman looks at Patrick askance, hoping that they'd get permission to speak. He might be less inclined toward bad stuff like this, but a damsel is in distress and he's sure that he and the others can make a winning impression.
  274. 06[21:02] * @Patrick folds his arms, quietly considering if the boss would actually be upset if he were to -on accident- break Vinnie in half. "O'course- We got Ahlbart, Tommy, and uhm... Andrew." Half turning to the group, he continues. "This couple is Vinnie and Gina- they got... uhm- creative ways o' information gatherin'"
  275. 06[21:03] * @Albert stands awkwardly, minding his tongue around presumed killers and thieves. He simply stares at Patrick as the introductions pass.
  276. [21:03] <@Patrick> "Pretty shore Gina is pahrt snake and Vinnie would catch foire if he stepped in a church."
  277. [21:03] <@Tommy> "Yeah I...figured that." Tommy glances between the Italians.
  278. 01[21:06] <@Beckman> "That's not... ah, whatever." James lets this one go. "Pleased to meet you. I came with because Patrick's a good guy and needed my car."
  279. [21:08] <@Keeper> "Hey, I'm a good Catholic same as anyone!" Vinnie argues, feigning offense. Gina marches down the line of people, grasping Beckman's tie and running her hand down it to feel the silk and then letting it go as she walks past. Then seems to zero in on Tommy and comes to a stop in front of him. "Tommy, huh? I feel like I know you."
  280. [21:10] <@Tommy> "Well that would make one of us, miss. You are...?"
  281. 06[21:11] * @Beckman mumbles, "Watch the tie though..."
  282. [21:12] <@Keeper> "Giiiina" she says, stretching out the I. "Yeah, you're the guy from the paper with the funnies in it."
  283. [21:15] <@Tommy> "Right. The Arkham Advertiser." Tommy glances to Patrick, giving him a confused look about the Italian on him.
  284. [21:17] <@Keeper> "Heh. That Uncle Walt is a hoot. Say, that's same paper the little miss works for..." she hikes a thumb toward the wine cellar and she gets all doe-eyed. "You ain't seeing her are you?" she asks.
  285. 06[21:17] * @Patrick shakes his head and clears his throat loud enough to almost sound like a engine backfiring. "Vinnie might get lonely if you stahrt making new boyfriends."
  286. [21:19] <@Keeper> "Oh, is that what this is?" Vinnie starts to rev up "You making time with my gal, mister newsman!?"
  287. [21:20] <@Tommy> "What? No?" Tommy gives Patrick another look, concerned about his friend's safety to be working for people who work with 2 lunatics. Or dangerous idiots. He wasn't sure which was worse.
  288. [21:23] <@Patrick> "Vinnie, perhaps you should talk with yer Gina one room over while I watch the rest?"
  289. [21:24] <@Keeper> The downward spiral into violence that is this conversation is mercifully interrupted by Eddie Leary opening the cellar door and stomping his way down the stairs, attempting to clear his throat.
  290. [21:25] <@Keeper> When he comes into view he snaps his fingers to get Dexter's attention and the points to the wine cellar. Dexter gets the message and heads over there.
  291. [21:30] <@Keeper> "Hm, what's wrong Mr. Tommy? You're looking green around the gills. You ain't got the Innsmouth look have you?" Gina teases.
  292. [21:30] <@Keeper> As she says this the door on the wall beside the wine cellar suddenly slams shut.
  293. [21:32] <@Tommy> "Christ." Tommy mutters under his breath, keeping an eye on the slammed door for a moment. He reaches into his front pocket, pulling out a handkerchief to wipe the cold sweat from his forehead. "Just seeing ghosts, is all." He responds to Gina.
  294. [21:33] <@Keeper> As everybody turns to look, Dexter comes out of the wine cellar dragging a chair behind him. Roberta Henry is tied up in the chair with her mouth gagged by tape, she looks frightened as she takes in the situation but her expression relaxes somewhat when she notices Tommy.
  295. [21:34] <@Keeper> Eddie takes a blackjack out of his jacket and looks at Patrick, motioning to the door that just slammed shut with his head. "Let's check."
  296. 06[21:35] * @Tommy checks Roberta, seeing if she'd been mangled in any fashion.
  297. 06[21:36] * @Patrick cracks his knuckles, moving for the door and waiting just long enough for Eddie to prepare before swinging it wide open.
  298. [21:38] <@Keeper> Roberta is slightly emaciated and very disheveled. Her arms and legs are bruised and there are a few cuts here and there but on immediate observations there are no real wounds. Vinnie pulls the tape off her mouth painfully and Roberta inhales sharply, panting for a couple seconds before speaking...
  299. [21:38] <@Keeper> "Trying to scoop me, Moore?"
  300. [21:40] <@Tommy> "Christ, Henry, I don't think now's the time for your smart mouth."
  301. [21:41] <@Keeper> The door that Patrick throws open seems to be a private bedroom, seemingly empty. Maybe the door was slammed by a draft? The room is newly furnished with a bed, small table, and a padded leather chair. It's turned off now, but the radio that was playing earlier is perched upon the table....
  302. 06[21:43] * @Patrick eyes the room, cautiously stepping inside before tapping at a stone wall with his knuckle.
  303. [21:51] <@Keeper> After Patrick taps the stone something clicks in the wall and the stone recedes backwards before an entire section of wall, mounted on hidden hinges, swings backwards to reveal a room on the other side. It's a laboratory. An oak desk with a scorched top.
  304. [21:51] <@Keeper> dominates one side of the room. Workbenches on the other side hold various jars, powders and liquids. and many pieces of chemical apparatus. The place looks very well equipped for research and synthesis, though all the substances are unnamed but for one with a handwritten label reading 'BANEFUL DUST OF HERMES TRISMEGISTUS.'
  305. [21:52] <@Patrick> "Did we- know about this room?"
  306. [21:53] <@Keeper> Roberta sighs "Maybe your right. It sure enough landed me in this hot mess." She turns her head, this time to address her captors "I'll be damned if I'm gonna let the story go! The Treasury Department is going to hear about this when I bust this story open!"
  307. [21:53] <@Keeper> Leary just shakes his head no, gawking at the strange hidden laboratory.
  308. [21:53] <@Tommy> "Henry, that mouth we just talked about?"
  309. 06[21:54] * @Albert shakes his head, whispering "Oh Christ, it's starting again."
  310. [21:54] <@Keeper> *you're
  311. [21:55] <@Keeper> "This is...too much" Leary observes, taking a couple steps back and then returning the main cellar. "Business first. Talked with Danny...not happy."
  312. 01[21:56] <@Beckman> "Gal, maybe now's not the time to run mouth about telling the world. You have any idea what that couple was going to do to you? Un-Christianlike things, I'll tell you. Just shelve the story."
  313. [21:56] <@Tommy> "Think of the fact that..." Tommy mutters under his breath. "These folks were ready to make sure you never let any story go again. Ever." Tommy gets in close while everyone's distracted. "So shut up, lose your spine, and let's get out of here alive."
  314. [21:56] <@Keeper> "This is going to make my career!" she insists petulantly.
  315. [21:57] <@Patrick> "On a scale o' one ta ten? How 'unhappy' are we talking about?"
  316. 06[21:58] * @Albert approaches the tied up woman, gently placing his hand on her shoulder. "Please, just listen to your friend..."
  317. 01[21:59] <@Beckman> "The dead don't have careers, miss. You think you're invulnerable? A pretty thing like you and you're already covered in bruises just from being BROUGHT here. You know I saw that woman carrying a knife?"
  318. 01[22:00] <@Beckman> He leans in closer. "Just cut your losses and run, unless you think your boss will appreciate not having to pay your month of wages from now on."
  319. [22:01] <@Keeper> Leary closes his eyes and shakes his head "...Seven? Not happy you exposed...our operation to...strangers. Especially...another journalist. But it's not...so bad. If you can convince her to...drop the story...then he will forgive. Provisionally."
  320. [22:03] <@Keeper> "Misters" she says, regarding Albert and Beckman "I don't even know who you are." She then casts a sideways look at Gina's heavy meat cleaver. Gina catches her eye and smiles sweetly at the reporter. "But I guess you're making a hell of a lot of sense."
  321. 06[22:04] * @Albert looks over to Beckman with a newfound appreciation, the second time the man has now pulled them out of the fire in the same week.
  322. [22:04] <@Patrick> "Well- I don't really..." Patrick trails off momentarily, trying to think out what exactly to say. "So we convince the miss to jess fahrget what she saw and wut? The reporter couple owe us a favor?"
  323. [22:04] <@Keeper> All the energy in her body seems sapped and she slumps, held in sitting position only by the ropes keeping her bound to the chair. "Alright. I'll drop it."
  324. [22:05] <@Keeper> "Not just him. The lot of them..." Eddie Leary projects his voice the best he can "You all work...for Danny O'Bannion now."
  325. 06[22:06] * @Albert looks over to Tommy with a newfound loathing, the second time the man has now put them back into the fire in the same week.
  326. [22:08] <@Tommy> "W-wait what?"
  327. [22:09] <@Keeper> "You and Henry are to...avoid reporting on family matters. Also...we may call upon you...for service...in the future."
  328. [22:10] <@Keeper> "Silver lining. It pays."
  329. 01[22:11] <@Beckman> "Wait, I understand those two, but why me? And what can I do?"
  330. [22:11] <@Tommy> "Look, I'm not really a legbreaker-type and everything I write is looked over with a fine-tooth comb so I'm not exactly sure what you can get out of me."
  331. 01[22:11] <@Beckman> He ponders if maybe that made him sound a little too eager to help.
  332. [22:13] <@Keeper> "Because you know....about our presence here. This is....the deal." He drops his hand to his hip and flexes his fingers, it's a small movement but you can't help but sense that it connotes violence. "You can of course....decline." Vinnie licks his lips.
  333. 01[22:15] <@Beckman> "I'm just saying I'm not sure what you'd want with an architect, not that I'm not interested. I'll take the deal of course."
  334. [22:16] <@Tommy> "I'm not stupid enough to decline." Tommy holds his hands up a little.
  335. [22:18] <@Keeper> "Good. Glad to...avoid unpleasantness." He waves Vinnie towards Roberta and he cuts her free.
  336. [22:19] <@Keeper> She attempts to stand, rising weakly and staggering forward.
  337. 06[22:21] * @Tommy helps support Roberta.
  338. [22:22] <@Albert> "Come on." Albert mutters in a low voice, "Let's get her out of here."
  339. [22:22] <@Keeper> She slumps against him, clearly grateful for the support. "Go now...We will be...in touch"
  340. [22:24] <@Keeper> With the mobster behemoth's permission you're able to leave, but as you turn to do so Gina calls out "Wait!"
  341. 06[22:25] * @Tommy mutters a "fuck" under his breath, before turning.
  342. [22:26] <@Keeper> "A souvenir of our time together." Gina is suddenly filled with a sadistic energy and darts forward, cleaver in full swing. Even Vinnie's eye widen in surprise in fear as she makes her attack, directed at Roberta Henry's face.
  343. 06[22:29] * @Tommy acts on instinct, trying to shove Roberta out of the way. His reflexes have another idea, honed by his nightmarish experiences in the past few weeks. A solid right jab flies right at Gina's nose.
  344. [22:32] <@Keeper> The punch catches her square in the face, sending her tumbling back into the waiting arms of a displeased Eddie Leary who grabs her and throws her back down onto the stone floor. "Crazy broad!" he points at Vinnie "Restrain her!"
  345. [22:32] <@Keeper> He turns back to you and bows his head apologetically "So sorry. She's...not well."
  346. 06[22:34] * @Tommy blinks, hand still in a fist as he seems as stunned by his own violent action as Gina did. "Y-yeah...I can see that."
  347. [22:35] <@Keeper> This time you're truly free to leave without interruption. As you make your way up the cellar stairs Roberta turns toward Tommy. "Hey Moore..."
  348. [22:35] <@Tommy> "Yeah?"
  349. [22:35] <@Keeper> She plants a kiss on Tommy's cheek. "Thanks for coming for me."
  350. [23:01] <@Keeper> 3 November 1920
  351. [23:07] <@Keeper> You find yourself standing in the office of one Bryce Fallon, the Dean of Administration for Miskatonic University. He's a silver haired, turned out man in his fifties to whom middle age has been kind. Sitting at his desk with his fingers crossed he exudes the kind of even temperament and calm authority much sought after in the likes of clergymen and country doctors. He has a pleasant manner...
  352. [23:07] <@Keeper> ...and certain thoughtfulness of speech that carries though in even casual meetings. Albert was called here specifically, but the rest of the investigators are here at the behest of Hartman who was called specifically as well, but could not attend due to lingering complications of being shot in the head. Nevertheless, Fallon trusts his judgement and you came highly recommended as troubleshooters.
  353. [23:07] <@Keeper> He isn't alone in his office, there's a woman in there too who is making casual conversation with him when you step into his office.
  354. [23:14] <@Keeper> He waves you into his office "Gentlemen, good day! Do come in and have a seat. And coffee or tea if you like." There are beverages prepared on a table freshly prepared. "I'm the Dead of Administration, Bryce Fallon. And this is Miss Mary Bangerter, I called her here as well. You come highly recommended by Professor Hartman."
  355. [23:14] <@Keeper> *Dean
  356. 06[23:15] * @Albert sits down quickly, helping himself to the fresh coffee eagerly.
  357. [23:16] <Mary> The woman is pale and slender; no taller than 5'5". Her hair is a light chestnut brown. Even in a messy bun, one could tell it was decently long. She has hazel eyes that spot everything.
  358. 06[23:17] * @Tommy helps himself to the coffee as well.
  359. [23:17] <@Albert> "Pleased to make your acquaintance, M'am." Albert offers, suddenly embarrassed to have seated himself before the introduction.
  360. [23:18] <Mary> "Nice to meet you, too. My name is Mary Alice."
  361. 06[23:18] * @Albert nods, glad to smooth over the hiccup. He turns back to Fallon. "What is this about, sir?"
  362. [23:19] <@Keeper> "Ah, well, we've had a bit of a hiccup in our History Department that if not quickly resolved could have wider implications for the University's reputation..." he begins.
  363. 06[23:20] * @Tommy takes a seat. "Tommy Moore of the Arkham Advertiser", he introduces himself before taking a sip of the coffee.
  364. 06[23:23] * @Beckman quietly adds, "James Beckman, ma'am," then refocuses at Fallon. After guest lecturing for the College of Engineering, he knows a bit of this man, and knows that he's the one to listen to.
  365. [23:24] <@Keeper> "There was a chap, Joshua Hobbhouse, who died an octogenarian bachelor north of town- no heirs. He was a sort of local history and had accumulated a quite a collection by the time of his death and it was all inventoried first by a legal firm ran by a well to do Providence clan called the Cobb family. His collection ended up being a treasure trove of local history that was passed to us at the...

My personal, quite cursory, investigation has brought to light something of a double life Professor Leiter was leading- womanizing and gambling debts in particular. These papers though, are highly prized by the Cobb family and legal action is...

  380. 06[23:31] * @Albert nods frankly, "I see."
  381. [23:33] <Mary> "Are we to gain ownership of them or find a way to claim them as a forgery? Or do you have other ideas for us?"
  382. [23:36] <@Keeper> "I called in you, Doctor Weaver, because while his death has been ruled a heart attack there are some doubts to this diagnosis from what I've been lead to believe. Hartman I called for his academic expertise, but he is having health problems and forwarded me to you fine gentlemen. Miss Bangerter has been called due to the subject matter of the papers. You see, they are previously undiscovered corr
  383. [23:36] <@Keeper> espondence and evidentiary materials pertaining to the Arkham Witch Trails and Miss Bangerter is a parapsychologist of some renown.
  384. [23:37] <@Keeper> "I would like you to recover them, Miss Bangerter. It is of the utmost importance to our institutional credibility."
  385. [23:38] <@Albert> "If you don't mind me asking, who performed the initial autopsy?" Albert queries. "What makes you believe it to be disingenuous?"
  386. [23:40] <Mary> "Do I have a legal backing here?" Mary pauses and looks around the room. She starts again, "Or is the backing only from those in this room?"
  387. [23:43] <@Keeper> "That would be Doctor John Wheatcroft, the county coroner. He will occasionally teach a class at the University part time. My suspicions are just a hunch really, it's mostly predicated on Doctor Wheatcroft's disposition when I spoke with him. He seemed evasive with my question and...well, I'd say frightened. His reports were also sparse and he's developed a reputation for being thorough."
  388. [23:44] <@Keeper> "Your backing is legal, so long as you don't commit any crimes through the course of the investigation. If you do...well, we REALLY need those papers but I don't want to hear about it."
  389. [23:45] <@Keeper> "You're free to search his residence and offices, view the body, search records....Ah." He produces and envelope that he places on the table "Keys to his office and home. He lived in a little cottage on campus."
  390. 06[23:47] * @Albert nods, "I can't speak for my friends, obviously. But I'll do what I can."
  391. [23:49] <@Keeper> Fallon exhales "That's great news. We're also prepared to compensate you for your time. Say...$250?"
  392. [23:51] <@Tommy> "$250? I'll have you know you're working with the premier writer for the Arkham Advertiser, who in the course of his job has solved many mysteries and investigative inquiries."
  393. [23:52] <@Tommy> "I'm a professional. $300."
  394. [23:54] <@Keeper> He temples his fingers and then nods appreciatively "Well, I suppose in light of your track record we could invest a little more into this. But this amount is also for your discretion in the matter."
  395. [23:57] <@Albert> "We won't let you down, Mr. Fallon." Albert adds, finishing his coffee.
  396. Session Time: Sat Jan 28 00:00:00 2017
  397. [00:06] <@Keeper> "Good man, Doctor. Feel free to come to me for anything I may be able to assist you with. I can make introductions to various members of the faculty if nothing else." He nods, your business concluded for now "Gentlemen."

  415. [18:47] <@Keeper> The usual suspects and the intrepid parapsychologist Mary who has newly joined the group stand in the hallway outside the Dean of Administration, Bryce Fallon's, office with the keyring he gave you. Each of them constitutes a lead- his office and his home. There is also the suspicious circumstances of the body that Fallon would only hint at. Nominally the cause of death is a complication of...
  416. [18:47] <@Keeper> ...the heart as a result of a violent seizure and the body is being held in the teaching hospital.
  417. [18:49] <@Keeper> Your goal, find the Hobbhouse Arkham Witch Trial Papers that have gone missing since his mysterious death before the University suffers the consequences of having lost such an important academic discovery.
  418. [18:49] <@Albert> "I suppose I'll have to perform the autopsy. I don't imagine any of you want to accompany me."
  419. [18:53] <@Tommy> "We can probably split up and cover more ground. I'll head over to his place and see if he's left the papers anywhere easy. Doubt it, but here's hoping."
  420. 06[18:55] * @Tommy pauses, in thought.
  421. [18:55] <@Tommy> "On second thought, last time I went off on my own I got gnawed on."
  422. 06[18:55] * @Albert nods, "You do tend to find trouble wherever you go..."
  423. [18:56] <@Patrick> "Oi'm not about ta hold yer hand when you head to the pisser, but I can stick around. Close loike."

  426. [19:07] <@Keeper> It's a short walk across campus to the teaching hospital, but the cold October winds and lifelessness of the trees and gardens make the walk an unpleasant one. There are few other living things on campus aside from a single with a white splotch on its belly who caws down at you when you walk past its perch on a tree outside the hospital entrance. You enter and are greeted, as usual, by Nurse...
  427. [19:07] <@Keeper> ...Smith who seems pleased that you're coming in uninjured and directs you down a flight of stairs to the morgue.
  428. [19:07] <@Keeper> * a single crow
  429. [19:11] <@Keeper> It smells like formaldehyde and the odor even stretches to the break room where you find the only other living soul down here, sitting at a table and sipping at a cup of coffee. He's an elderly, watery-eyed man with a walrus like mustache. He's on the wrong side of sixty and gives the impression of having too much skin, like a man who has lost a lot of weight really fast. Dr. Weaver knows...
  430. [19:11] <@Keeper> ...for a fact that he has. Despite your entrance not being anything approaching quiet he still jumps when you file in, clearly startled.
  431. [19:12] <@Keeper> "Doc-doctor Weaver" he says as an affirmation, exhaling slowly. "You've brought friends."
  432. 06[19:16] * @Prof_Hartman rounds the corner with a wave "Now now, no need to be jumpy. They are here for the same reason I am. Sorry for not making the meeting. This head injury is still painful at times."
  433. 06[19:17] * @Albert nods, "We're here to take a look at Mr. Leitter."
  434. 01[19:19] <@Beckman> "I'm their driver I suppose," quips James.
  435. [19:19] <@Tommy> "Apparently there's a lot of odd business going on with our late friend Charles." He jabs a thumb towards the body.
  436. [19:20] <@Tommy> "Hopefully it's nothing though." Tommy states vaguely.
  437. [19:20] <@Patrick> "OI'm not here to look. Jess standing outsoide the door and waiting for this Ouw-topst ta be over."
  438. [19:21] <@Keeper> The medical examiner stands, taking one last sip of his coffee before setting the mug back down on the table and wiping his brow with his sleeve. "Well good, I'd like to rid myself of it. The name is John, by the way. John Wheatcroft- physician and coroner when it's necessary."
  439. 06[19:22] * @Tommy extends a hand for a shake. "Tommy Moore, a pleasure Mr. Wheatcroft."
  440. [19:23] <@Albert> "We'll be out of your hair quickly, John. Just a cursory examination." Albert pats his shoulder before approaching the body.
  441. 06[19:23] * @Keeper gives Tommy an annoyed look, but still shakes his hand.
  442. [19:23] <@Keeper> *Wheatcroft
  443. [19:26] <@Keeper> Then he casts his eyes over the lot of you, almost conspiratorially "Now, you all aren't going to be telling anyone about the state of the body are you? I have your word?"
  444. 06[19:26] * @Tommy quirks an eyebrow, curious, before nodding slowly. "You do."
  445. 06[19:29] * @Albert occupies himself with preparations for examining the body, he idly remarks "Of course."
  446. [19:29] <@Keeper> He seems to take that as on behalf of the group as a whole and shuffles towards the door "This way then. Briskly, now." He leaves the room and hooks a left down the hall.
  447. 06[19:29] * @Prof_Hartman follows after rubbing his head lightly
  448. 06[19:31] * @Albert follows after Hartman, "Are you feeling alright? I could give you a second opinion if you like."
  449. [19:32] <@Prof_Hartman> "Well between my lack of sleep and a fracture, it is expected that there would be pain. I think i'll make it, though your concern is appreciated."
  450. [19:33] <@Tommy> "He did take a bullet to a head. I don't think even Patrick can boast about that."
  451. 06[19:34] * @Albert only smiles, "I guess I feel responsible ever since picking you up off that bar floor."
  452. [19:34] <@Albert> "Things truly have gotten exciting since then, well, terrifying seems more apt."
  453. [19:35] <@Prof_Hartman> "You know I feel I may have gone quite mad. Most men would have done the smart thing and turned away from all this but I can' t help but delve deeper."
  454. [19:36] <@Keeper> He leads you to a room marked 'Cold Storage' enters, leading into what is essentially an OR Suite with the OR bed and backtables set aside against one wall and another having been outfitted with an array of refrigerated morgue drawers. There are only six of them, but the thought strikes you that it still seems to be far too many for a sleepy town like Arkham. Doctor Wheatcroft grabs the...
  455. [19:36] <@Keeper> ...handle on the drawer marked #1 and pulls it out...
  456. [19:42] <@Keeper> The body of Leiter lays unbagged on a metal slab. His face is a screaming visage of horror, frozen in agony and terror at the moment of his death. His eyes are swollen, whitish-grey masses of colorless, clotted tissue. His hair seems to have been turned white and true to the cause of death there are no immediately visible wounds, but you can tell just by looking that something is wrong. Even...
  457. [19:42] <@Keeper> ...being in proximity of the body has an unaccountably unnerving effect and puts you on edge. Despite his eyes being clotted masses, you can't shake the feeling he's looking at you.
  458. 06[19:46] * @Albert shudders visibly, repulsed by what he sees. He takes a few steps back instinctively, ready for a body, but not one so horribly befouled. He needs a moment to catch his breath.
  459. 06[19:46] * @Tommy takes a step back. "Jesus Christ..." He mumbles, covering his mouth with a hand.
  460. [19:46] <@Albert> "How awful..."
  461. 06[19:47] * @Prof_Hartman removes a handkerchief from his pocket and covers his mouth and nose in an audible gasp "I was not expecting something so...unnatural."
  462. [19:57] <@Keeper> The lights in the morgue, suspended from cords, flicker on and off as if undergoing a surge and then a shadow begins to play across the wall. A silhouette with flicking, tenebrous psuedopods and tooth maw almost ursine in shape begins to play across the wall opposite the single entrance. The lights begin to flicker in the same way in the hallway outside before shutting off finally, staying...
  463. [19:57] <@Keeper> ...that way for a long couple of seconds before weakly coming back on.
  464. [19:57] <@Keeper> When they do, the shape is gone.
  465. [19:58] <@Keeper> This is seen by all save for Weaver, who is baffled by the lightshow but does not see the shape moving across the wall.
  466. 06[19:59] * @Tommy backs away from the wall which the shadow flickered across. "What the fuck?" He hisses, almost tripping over a tray of tools.
  467. 06[20:00] * @Beckman turns around. "Well, I'm getting the hell out of here. Who's with me?"
  468. [20:00] <@Albert> "I know it's a grisly sight, but I still have to perform the autopsy."
  469. 06[20:01] * @Prof_Hartman reaches into his suit jacket while backing away as well
  470. [20:01] <@Keeper> A mayo stand rocks and a handful of scalpels and hemostats clatter onto the linoleum. Wheatcroft just stands there with his eyes shut and fists clenched, breathing heavily until the moment passes.
  471. 06[20:02] * @Albert looks at the group, sensing they share a mutual apprehension. He narrows his eyes, confused. "You just want to sit this one out?"
  472. [20:03] <@Tommy> "Right, you do that. I'm going to get out of here."
  473. [20:03] <@Tommy> "Just uh.../yell/ if you need anything."
  474. 06[20:04] * @Tommy gets out of the room, wondering why he doesn't smoke by this point.
  475. 06[20:06] * @Albert grimaces, his initial misgivings now returned ten-fold by the evacuation. He's even less enthusiastic now about touching the horrible corpse. But resolves to see it through.
  476. [20:13] <@Keeper> The basic result of the autopsy is something like what Wheatcroft wrote on his report, a massive heart attack leading to almost instantaneous death. In addition, the body suffered violent muscular spasms and, by some means, severe thermal damage of the optic tissues, akin to the effects of boiling the vitreous matter, cause unknown. Simultaneous organ failure occurred all over the body and...
  477. [20:13] <@Keeper> ...even his gut flora are dead, which is slowing the rate of decomposition. None of this is in any way normal or explicable by any outside cause.
  478. 06[20:15] * @Albert grimaces as the examination continues, sweat beading above his eyebrows as he struggles with a few odds and ends, hopefully gloved hands now caked crimson.
  479. [20:15] <@Albert> "I should have been a reporter..."
  480. [20:16] <@Albert> "I thought I'd be delivering babies... not..." His griping is cut short as he pulls his hands away from the mess.
  481. [20:23] <@Keeper> After taking several biopsies of scorched tissue from the abdomen for examination, Weaver notices a few more peculiarities on the microscopic level. Whatever burned Leiter began in his eyes and traveled down his nerves in a distinct path to his thoracic and abdominal cavities until the heat reached each of his visceral organs whereat it seems to have spread and destroyed them. The bacteria...
  482. [20:23] <@Keeper> ...in the stomach and intestines, when put under stress by light or heat, usually go dormant and produce spores of encapsulated protein that are notoriously difficult to kill and can activate later to reproduce. On metal instruments killing such spores requires the use of an autoclave of sufficient heat and pressure for tens of minutes and killing them is typically impossible on living or...
  483. [20:23] <@Keeper> ...even once living tissue (like wood). And yet whatever did this seems to have destroyed them instantly without spread laterally to the connective tissue cells in his muscles, blood, bone, or skin. It's like the heat was living and directed.
  484. [20:24] <@Keeper> It's unlike anything Weaver has heard of, let alone encountered.
  485. 06[20:25] * @Albert takes a moment, exhaling deeply. He turns from the corpse to the door.
  486. 06[20:26] * @Albert pops his head out, looking for Tommy for a moment. One blood-soaked hand on the frame. "Tommy, do you have a pen and paper handy?"
  487. [20:26] <@Tommy> "Of course." Tommy pulls them out. "What'd you need written down?"
  488. 06[20:27] * @Albert pauses, caught off guard. "I don't actually know... what it is."
  489. [20:27] <@Albert> "It's something."
  490. 06[20:27] * @Albert steps out from behind the door, "Maybe I'd better fill you in."
  491. [20:28] <@Albert> "Our subject was... well, cooked in his skin. It's unlike anything I've ever seen before. An impossible temperature, and directed, almost like, it were alive."
  492. [20:29] <@Albert> "From his eyes down to his toes, he was almost instantly charred."
  493. [20:29] <@Tommy> "Cooked in his skin? I didn't see any burn marks though..." He writes down what Albert asked anyway.
  494. 06[20:29] * @Albert absently wipes his bloody hand on his sweaty brow.
  495. [20:29] <@Albert> "I just need a moment to wash up, and I believe we can move on."
  496. [20:30] <@Tommy> "Well make it fast, I think we have some things to tell you when we get to the car."
  497. [20:30] <@Patrick> "Floatin' knoives, pushy ghost folk, jackal people, livin' foire-" Patrick counted off on his thick fingers.
  498. 06[20:30] * @Albert nods, although now he seems enthusiastic about the horrible corpse. "I'll need Wheatcroft to keep him on ice. This could be groundbreaking research."
  499. [20:31] <@Albert> "I might even be published!"
  500. 06[20:31] * @Albert quickly returns after cleaning himself up, his hands now viscera-free.
  501. 01[20:32] <@Beckman> "Wait a moment."
  502. 01[20:33] <@Beckman> "Considering what we... /know/ about the world, firsthand, could it be a mistake to let people know?" James shifts weight to the other leg. "This might be another case of the same kind as the Gothic knife. The blasphemous kind."
  503. [20:34] <@Albert> "Hmm... I guess I hadn't considered that... and I did give Wheatcroft my word not to breathe a word of it."
  504. [20:34] <@Tommy> "We still have to swing by Leiter's place and search it."
  505. [20:35] <@Prof_Hartman> "At this point, Whatever it takes to leave this place."
  506. 01[20:36] <@Beckman> "Indeed. Besides, last time we tried to tell the world, people thought the news article was a well-played salacious falsehood. We risk our reputations if we keep telling people without care."
  507. 02[20:38] * @Mary (SamuraiBat@ihw-p3hc7d.ip.windstream.net) Quit (Quit: )
  508. [20:48] <@Keeper> Leiter lived in a small nicely-appointed gabled cottage on the edge of campus nearly a small fishing pond and a grove of trees sat by the athletic fields. It's made to look quite quaint and seems like it would be at home in the foothills of the Bavarian alps, it would be picturesque if the leaves hadn't fallen already. There are two stories to it and a driveway leading up to the front porch,...
  509. [20:48] <@Keeper> ...there also is a back porch facing the woods.
  510. 06[20:50] * @Tommy looks at it with no small measure of jealousy. "Why is it I'm always going to richer people's houses these days?"
  511. 01[20:51] <@Beckman> "Consider it a sign that you know the right people. Who wants to try the back door?"
  512. [20:52] <@Albert> "I'll follow your lead." Albert adds, taking in the scenery.
  513. [20:53] <@Prof_Hartman> "Why not the front?"
  514. [20:53] <@Tommy> "We have the key, after all."
  515. 01[20:54] <@Beckman> "...my God, I've fallen far. We keep breaking into places and I got ready to do so again."
  516. 06[20:54] * @Albert stifles a laugh.
  517. 06[20:55] * @Prof_Hartman smiles and steps up to the door "I think being in the presence of rough company has dulled you a bit."
  518. [20:56] <@Tommy> "One place. Only one place." Tommy corrects.
  519. 06[20:57] * @Prof_Hartman uses the key to open the door with caution "If the morgue was any indication...brace yourselves."
  520. [20:58] <@Keeper> The front door is a wood panel door a quite flimsy, window on the other side gives you a view into a darkened lounge with a fireplace and a few pieces of furniture that have been moved around erratically. There is an envelope placed delicately on the doormat outside.
  521. 06[21:01] * @Tommy bends down to pick it up, looking at the outside.
  522. [21:04] <@Keeper> The key fits and Hartman easily gains access to the cottage, stepping into the lounge. Fortunately the lights seem to work and brighten the place up to show an interior in a state of semi-organized chaos. There are two couches, a coffee table between them, and a chair. All the sitting pieces seem to have been shoved away from the table, which has a mostly packed suitcase sitting on top of it...
  523. [21:04] <@Keeper> ...full of wrinkled clothes. The hearth seems to have been used recently, but seems to be full of scorched papers rather than logs.
  524. [21:04] <@Keeper> The envelope is addressed to Leiter and seems to be from Arkham Sanitarium.
  525. [21:04] <@Albert> "He seemed to be in a great hurry."
  526. 06[21:05] * @Albert moves over to the hearth, trying to examine the scorched papers, his attempt is fruitless as he mutters to himself.
  527. [21:05] <@Tommy> "Well, he's dead and we were asked to look. So I guess it's not illegal." Tommy starts to open the letter as he steps inside.
  528. [21:09] <@Keeper> What Tommy finds inside is a letter of admission and request to visit regarding the case of one C. Hunter, whom the late Professor Leiter seems to have brought to the asylum and assumed temporary guardianship of. Albert does actually manage to find a document that has survived the fireplace structurally, but it's been so steeped in ash that deciphering its contents would be a challenge.
  529. [21:11] <@Keeper> A set of double doors are in the West wall and there two doors in the North wall, though the one of the left is clearly a closet.
  530. [21:11] <@Tommy> "Looks like our guy was guardian over a "C.Hunter" at the Sanitarium."
  531. 06[21:11] * @Albert brings the document over gingerly, offering it to the group. "Only thing I could pull out of the fireplace."
  532. 06[21:13] * @Prof_Hartman looks about the cottage and goes over to the suit case "Was he leaving somewhere? Looks like it was in a hurry too."
  533. 06[21:15] * @Beckman leans over at the letter. "I believe I can see what it says. Just a moment."
  534. 01[21:24] <@Beckman> "An... 'Abner Wick' wanted Leiter for the 'Witch Trial Papers.' Seems to think they were for sale."
  535. 06[21:28] * @Prof_Hartman pulls a pen out from his pocket and pulls out the firearm from the suitcase, setting it gently on the table "Seems Professor Leiter was prepared, that's for sure. Some money and a weapon among his clothing."
  536. [21:28] <@Albert> "So a gun, the papers, and a madman in a sanitarium..."
  537. 06[21:29] * @Albert scratches his head, "He was burned nearly instantaneously as well..."
  538. [21:31] <@Tommy> "Sounds like he found something...then something found him."
  539. [21:33] <@Prof_Hartman> "It is clear he was being pursued. He was trying to run but he was also trying to sell the Witch Trial Papers."
  540. [21:33] <@Prof_Hartman> "Possible connection? Though i'm not sure how one cooks a man like that under normal circumstances, if you get my meaning."
  541. [21:33] <@Tommy> "So we can pay a visit to the looney bin, or meet with this Abner Wick...who we don't know, and may not even be in town."
  542. [21:33] <@Tommy> "Or check his office for more clues."
  543. [21:34] <@Tommy> "After we finish up here, of course."
  544. [21:34] <@Albert> "Guess we'd best move on to the next room, then."
  545. 06[21:34] * @Prof_Hartman moves towards and then opens the closet
  546. 01[21:36] <@Beckman> "There's another possibility too. This 'Wick' might have been hungering for the papers, found out about our man, and been pestering him for them."
  547. [21:38] <@Albert> "If he is the one responsible, I'd avoid him. Knives and guns probably won't help you avoid being melted from the inside-out."
  548. [21:38] <@Keeper> The c;loset seems to be filled with cleaning supplies and various other inconsequential bits of a bric-a-brac, though there is a comfy looking pair of house shoes.
  549. [21:43] <@Tommy> "Yeah, that's a disturbing possibility too."
  550. [21:48] <@Prof_Hartman> "Well then on to what I assume is the bedroom?"
  551. 03[21:49] * Keeper changes topic to 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVCZRQLfkWo'
  552. 06[21:53] * @Prof_Hartman opens the door on the northside
  553. [21:55] <@Keeper> After opening the door it turns out that the next room is a study. Leiter’s desk is cluttered with all manner of papers and notepad, spread wildly over its surface with no sense of organization. After sifting through it there are a few bits that stand out, a notebook recording financial transactions, a receipt for the fitting of a new lock and bolt dated the day before he died, and travel...
  554. [21:55] <@Keeper> ...tickets for numerous trips to Atlantic City.
  555. [21:56] <@Albert> "Here we go again..."
  556. [22:07] <@Keeper> You all examine the notebook, trying to make heads or tails of the figures. They seems to indicate influxes and expenditures of thousands of dollars at a time but while you're pondering the implications of these transactions and decipher the shorthand most you hear an automobile stop out front and some car doors gently close. Beckman seems single-mindedly focused on the papers but the rest...
  557. [22:07] <@Keeper> ...of the investigators hear more than one person approach the front door.
  558. [22:08] <@Albert> "Here we go... again."
  559. 03[22:09] * Keeper changes topic to 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mynzbmrtp9I'
  560. [22:10] <@Tommy> "Shit shit..." Tommy gets behind a door, pulling out his revolver, checking it for bullets before getting it ready.
  561. 06[22:10] * @Albert shoots Tommy a sideways glance, "Bit premature isn't it?" He whispers.
  562. [22:10] <@Tommy> "After the shit I've seen, I've earned the right to be paranoid."
  563. [22:11] <@Albert> "It'll look bad if we're in a recently deceased man's home with his gun and belongings."
  564. [22:12] <@Prof_Hartman> "We are authorized to be here. I wouldn't worry too much."
  565. 06[22:13] * @Tommy frowns at Albert for a moment, an annoyed grimmace on his face. Reluctantly, he holsters the gun back, but stays behind the door.
  566. [22:14] <@Keeper> A hand pounds on the door twice and then tests the knob, successfully. In the other room you hear the door open and someone steps inside. "Leiteeeer. We know you're in here" rings a South Jersey accent.
  567. 06[22:14] * @Albert shivers a little. "Okay, maybe you can shoot them."
  568. [22:14] <@Albert> He whispers.
  569. [22:15] <@Tommy> "See?" Tommy whispers. He straightens his jacket. "Now cover me and make sure I don't get shot or I swear to God I'll haunt all of you until the end of time."
  570. 06[22:16] * @Tommy heads out to the front. "Something I can help you with, gentlemen?"
  571. 06[22:16] * @Prof_Hartman pulls out his .45 with a nod
  572. 06[22:18] * @Albert skulks away, looking for anything useable for self-defense.
  573. [22:20] <@Keeper> It's two men, cut from the same cloth- broad, solid, and grim, with ill-fitting grey suits and wide brimmed fedoras pulled low. One is older, slightly shorter, and has an eye that's milky and coloration with a scar running vertically above and below it. They pause when Tommy emerges, but only for a moment.
  574. [22:21] <@Keeper> "Looks like we have a stranger here, eh Oaks?" the older man asks rhetorically. "Hrm" grunts Oaks.
  575. [22:22] <@Keeper> "I don't know, stranger. Can you help me? I'm looking for a Charles Leiter. This is his house. You're in it. But where is Charles?"
  576. [22:22] <@Keeper> "He wouldn't be ducking us would he? That's just unfriendly. Right Oaks?" "Hrm."
  577. [22:24] <@Tommy> "Well, unfortunately he is, but not in the way you'd expect. Unfortunately, Professor Leiter's health has waned, and he is no longer with us."
  578. [22:26] <@Keeper> "Oh, yeah? That a fact? That's some downright bizarre timing, isn't it Oakes?" "Hrm." "Because it looks like he was about to go on a little vacation" the older man says, gesturing to the half packed suitcase on the coffee table.
  579. 06[22:28] * @Tommy looks back, briefly, but doesn't pay it much mind. "If you're skeptical, you'll find him in the teaching hospital on the University's grounds. He owe you two money?"
  580. [22:29] <@Keeper> "Oh, are we really that transparent? Must be on account'a we got such honest features, eh Oaks?" "Hrm." "Yeah, he owed us money..."
  581. [22:30] <@Keeper> "Say, you seem like you're in ol' Chuck's loop. What say you show us body? Y'know, so we can pay our respects."
  582. [22:33] <@Tommy> "I'm actually working for the county's public administrator's office. I'm taking inventory of Mr. Leiter's possessions to be resolved at the reading of his will. I don't know the man."
  583. [22:36] <@Keeper> "County, huh? That's swell. Civil service is what makes America great, eh Oaks?" "Hrm." "Nevertheless you do seem to know where his body is and we'd really like to see him."
  584. [22:37] <@Keeper> He takes a step toward Tommy and Oaks seems to take the cue and trails him "We just have such a terrible sense of direction, we definitely need a guide."
  585. [22:40] <@Tommy> "Sure. I just need to get my bag out of the study. Come on in." Tommy waves for them and leisurely walks towards the study. "Out of curiosity, how much did he owe you?"
  586. [22:43] <@Keeper> "Cooperation. The foundation of human civilization ain't it, Oakes?" "Hrm." The two men follow Tommy's lead and walk across the room, heading to the study.
  587. 06[22:45] * @Albert looks from Beckman to Hartman nervously.
  588. 06[22:45] * @Prof_Hartman as soon as he sees somebody who isn't Tommy, levels his gun "Hold it. That is far enough."
  589. 06[22:49] * @Tommy turns, pulling out his own gun. "I'd listen to the man, if I were you."
  590. [22:53] <@Keeper> The two hoods stop cold in their tracks, taking stock of the ambush. "Whoa, looks like we've just run into the university's gun club eh Oaks?" "Hrm." "Let's just take it easy there, folks. Firing a gun can be hard on the wrist."
  591. [22:59] <@Keeper> "You're making a big mistake, Mr. County Clerk. I don't think or any of your buddies are killers. Lower those guns and we might just overlook this- you gonna shoot a man cold on a college campus over a man who supposedly is dead?"
  592. [23:02] <@Prof_Hartman> "We are after information ourselves and I'm afraid that it takes precedence over whatever debt is owed you. Move out slowly."
  593. 06[23:03] * @Prof_Hartman cocks the hammer on his gun "I am not a killer but i'm not afraid to wound a thug in defense of myself or others."
  594. [23:03] <@Albert> "Here we go again."
  595. 02[23:04] * @Prof_Hartman (chatzilla@ihw-avs0l7.hstntx.sbcglobal.net) Quit (Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.93 [Firefox 50.1.0/20161208153507])

  607. [18:47] <@Keeper> Having lured the two men in grey suits into Leiter's study, you've gotten the drop on them and are now holding them at gunpoint. The turn of events has curbed their aggression but they're far from panic. The older, smaller one casts an inscrutable glance to the big one that he keeps referring to as Oaks and then back to Hartman. "You want to put the piece away, big shooter. You think it...
  608. [18:47] <@Keeper> ...won't end badly for you, even if you take us out?"
  609. [18:52] <@Prof_Hartman> "I think you'll find that i'm not afraid to get my hands dirty. We all have our own motives for being here, i'm sure, but my own takes precedence. I assume you know the way out?"
  610. [18:55] <@Keeper> The older man takes a drag off of his half-finished cigarette and flicks it onto the carpet "I think we can manage. I don't know who you are or why you're protecting him, but you've made a big mistake here. C'mon Oaks, let's beat it."
  611. [18:59] <@Keeper> The imposing pair turn around and head back out into the living and toward the front door. As he is about to exit the older man turns back around, removes his hat, and takes a deep bow "The residence is yours, your majesties."
  612. [19:00] <@Keeper> With that they exit, closing the door with a slam and starting their car somewhere outside.
  613. 06[19:00] * @Tommy looks out the window, keeping his profile minimal behind the curtains while he watches them leave.
  614.
  615. Session Start: Fri Feb 24 19:09:51 2017
  616. Session Ident: #arkham
  617. 03[19:09] * Now talking in #arkham
  618. 06[19:10] * @Tommy nods as he watches them drive off. "Agreed. Where the fuck is Patrick?" He heads upstairs, trying to find where he ran off to.
  619. 01[19:11] <Beckman> "Don't be ridiculous, we don't need Patrick. Don't you remember the old house? We're apparently members of the Irish mob."
  620. [19:12] <@Albert> "Let's keep our interactions with the mob limited to Patrick." Albert adds.
  621. 06[19:13] * @Prof_Hartman holsters his fire arm "Yes i'm not too fond of being on their bad side but it was spur of the moment."
  622. [19:14] <@Albert> "I guess I'll go look at the kitchen. Knowing our luck I'll wager he has a mummyhead in the icebox, or some other damned thing."
  623. [19:18] <@Keeper> The group fans out and searches the rest of the colonial, a draft coming the from the kitchen leads one person to discover a back door with a busted lock and knob. It not longer forms an adequate seal and has cracked itself a third of the way open. A receipt from Caleb Markham's Locksmithing business on main sits on the kitchen table showing that he's paid to have it replaced but it doesn't...
  624. [19:19] <@Keeper> ...seem to have gotten done before he passed. Most of the other rooms are devoid of interesting or pertinent to the case, but in Leiter's bedroom Tommy spots a chest tucked away in the back of the closet covered in clothes that had been strewn around during Leiter's seemingly frantic rush to pack his suitcase.
  625. 06[19:20] * @Tommy pulls out the chest, pulling the clothes off of it before opening it up.
  626. 03[19:20] * Keeper sets mode: +o Beckman
  627. 03[19:20] * Keeper sets mode: +o Mary
  628. [19:27] <@Keeper> Inside he find a roll of about one thousand dollars in cash sitting on top of a pile of books, folios, and loose leaf papers. The documents inside seem to be of wildly varying ages and topics, and the books in different states of binding. Some of them seemingly falling apart owing to the spine stitching being only half done, others seem to be only half written, and other still are completely...
  629. [19:27] <@Keeper> ...finished books but with covers that are completely blank.
  630. 06[19:29] * @Tommy 's eyes widen, glancing behind himself as he reaches out for the money. He pauses, clenching his teeth in a hissing groan of defeat as he puts the roll of cash aside, examining the documents.
  631. [19:38] <@Keeper> As Tommy is examining the book he's holding the binding, already loose, slips and it falls apart in his hands tumbling back down onto the floor and back into the chest. In his rush to recover the pages he tips the chest forward and all its contents spill out onto the floor. The loose-leaf contents and the folios especially are now in essentially random order.
  632. [19:39] <@Prof_Hartman> "Everything alright?"
  633. [19:39] <@Tommy> "Shit. Shit shit shit..." Tommy gives up, putting them all in the chest. "Found some documents but...they're all jumbled."
  634. 06[19:40] * @Prof_Hartman walks in and checks the chest himself "Well that is going to take some time to comb over..."
  635. [19:42] <@Tommy> "Yeah...say you don't suppose that money's traceable, do you?"
  636. 06[19:45] * @Albert stands in the doorway, watching Tommy and Hartman as they discuss robbing the dead. Holding the receipt in one hand, he clears his throat.
  637. [19:47] <@Albert> "The kitchen door was busted open, found a receipt to get it replaced, looks like there wasn't time."
  638. [19:47] <@Albert> me offers the receipt to Tommy for his perusal.
  639. 06[19:48] * @Tommy takes the receipt, eying Albert as he stands up from the chest, and looks at it.
  640. 06[19:51] * @Albert moves over to the pile of papers, prodding at it idly. "He really must have been in a hurry."
  641. 06[19:51] * @Patrick stares for a moment, the gears grinding in his head before it suddenly all falls into place!
  642. [19:52] <@Patrick> "These... papers seem to be in random order!"
  643. [19:52] <@Keeper> It's for Markham's Locksmithing down on Main Street. One of two locksmiths in town - he's an honest fellow but has a bit of a temper.
  644. 06[19:52] * @Albert squints over at Patrick, frowning.
  645. 06[19:53] * @Prof_Hartman shakes his head at Patrick
  646. 06[19:53] * @Tommy groans, pinching his eyes.
  647. 06[19:53] * @Patrick looks as if he's performed a great service to the team, standing almost proudly.
  648. 01[19:53] <@Beckman> "He isn't wrong though."
  649. [19:53] <@Albert> "No, he's not wrong..." Albert echoes.
  650. [19:54] <@Patrick> "O'course I'm, not wrong!"
  651. [19:56] <@Tommy> "In any case...we have a receipt for Markham's Locksmithing, we have some letters from one Abner Wick, and a letter from the Sanitarium talking about his visiting rights to Cecil Hunter."
  652. [19:56] <@Tommy> "So we have some leads..."
  653. [20:11] <@Prof_Hartman> "Well I say we check his office lest those ruffians get there first..."
  654. [20:11] <@Albert> "The office sounds preferable to a Sanitarium."
  655. [20:13] <@Tommy> "Agreed. Besides, I don't think those guys know about those clues I offered anyway."
  656. 01[20:15] <@Beckman> "Keep your guns about I suppose."
  657. [20:17] <@Keeper> You set out and begin the trek across campus. The white spotted crow still lurks outside on a tree branch just outside the cottage and caws at you when you pass under it. After walking for a short time you reach the quad and begin to veer towards the history department when you pass a gaggle of student in Miskatonic sweaters, one of whom quickly bids farewell to his friends and jogs across...
  658. [20:17] <@Keeper> ...the street towards you. He waves his hand and tries to get your attention "Hey!" he shouts, a handsome young man with a strong jaw, dark hair, and an athletic physique.
  659. [20:20] <@Keeper> "Hey, are you guys looking into the murder?" he asks with a clipped upstate New York accent when he finally reaches you. His eyes betray an exuberance about the topic. "You're coming from Professor Leiter's old cottage, right?"
  660. [20:21] <@Tommy> "And who might you be?"
  661. [20:22] <@Keeper> "Anthony Flinders. I was in a couple of his classes. I was almost his assistant, but I was beat out by Emilia in the final selection."
  662. [20:25] <@Tommy> "I see. What makes you think it was a murder, Mr. Flinders? Autopsy and obituary clearly states the cause of death was a heart attack."
  663. [20:27] <@Keeper> "Yeah, but Emilia was the one who found him and she told her roommate Courtney that the body looked all crazy with cook eyeballs and she told her boyfriend Ross who is on the football team, so he told Kyle who told the rest of us in the locker room."
  664. [20:28] <@Keeper> *cooked
  665. [20:29] <@Keeper> "But everyone's talking now. I know more than other people though, I had a personal relationship with Leiter. I was his favorite student."
  666. [20:29] <@Keeper> He nods emphatically about his own pointl.
  667. [20:29] <@Keeper> *point
  668. [20:30] <@Prof_Hartman> "This is what happens with rumors. It starts with heart attack and ends up being murder. I don't suppose you've heard he has gills too?"
  669. [20:30] <@Tommy> "Rumors spread like wildfire and get everyone confused. It's the duty of the news to report the truth." Tommy straightens his tie. "And what do you know, Mr. Flinders, that other people wouldn't know?"
  670. [20:30] <@Albert> "Indeed, rumormongering and baseless speculation help no one."
  671. [20:32] <@Keeper> "I know about the Witch Trial Papers...and what he was really doing with them."
  672. [20:32] <@Prof_Hartman> "What do you mean? What he was really doing with them?"
  673. [20:33] <@Keeper> "If I tell you...will you let me in on the investigation?"
  674. [20:34] <@Prof_Hartman> "You seem to have misunderstood something."
  675. [20:35] <@Tommy> "If this were an investigation, we'd have police badges."
  676. [20:36] <@Keeper> "Oh. Then what were you doing at his house?"
  677. [20:37] <@Keeper> "It's the only thing up that laneway and you aren't dressed for a nature walk."
  678. [20:38] <@Tommy> "We're setting his affairs in order."
  679. [20:40] <@Keeper> "Well...alright. Sorry I bothered you then."
  680. [20:41] <@Keeper> He shrugs apologetically and sinks his hands into his pockets, turning around to leave.
  681. [20:43] <@Albert> "Well... I suppose we'd better move on, then."
  682. 06[20:44] * @Patrick seems to be scratching his chin about something. "It's roight queer he was asking aboot all o' this."
  683. [20:54] <@Albert> "If he's telling the truth we'll probably have to hurry before his office is swarmed by students..."
  684. [20:55] <@Keeper> You head to the office's in the history department and find your way to Leiter's office using the directions that Dean Fallon gave you. When you arrive there is a desk parked out front with a young woman sitting at it, staring intently down at a very old book amid a desk cluttered with similar such paraphernalia. She's auburn haired and good looking, whose dress and restrained manner...
  685. [20:55] <@Keeper> ...downplay her attractiveness. Next to her a janitor is busy scraping Leiter's name off of his office door.
  686. [20:58] <@Prof_Hartman> "Good afternoon. We are associates of the Dean and unfortunate Professor Leiter. I am Professor Hartman, and these are my friends, Tommy, Albert, Mary, Patrick, and James."
  687. [20:59] <@Keeper> The woman looks up, there's a distance in her pale blue eyes as she regards the lot of you. "Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't hear you come in. I'm Emilia Court...say, what's this regarding?"
  688. [21:00] <@Keeper> "If you're here to meet Professor Leiter then I'm afraid that won't be possible."
  689. [21:00] <@Patrick> "A pleasure ta meet ye lass." Patrick doffs his bowler cap to the woman and then glanced sidelong towards the Janitor. This college didn't waste time.
  690. [21:01] <@Prof_Hartman> "No no I've heard. Terrible thing. You are never ready to hear this sort of news."
  691. [21:06] <@Prof_Hartman> "I don't mean to intrude but did you say Court? As in THE Courts?"
  692. [21:07] <@Keeper> She casts an embarrassed look down at her book on the desk "I...I suppose...."
  693. 06[21:08] * @Patrick smiles as politely, holding his bowler hat to his chest. "No reason ta be awl bashful loike."
  694. 06[21:09] * @Albert clears his throat, "We've received the Dean's go-ahead to get the office in order."
  695. [21:10] <@Prof_Hartman> "How lovely. I hope i'm not overstepping myself but may I ask what do you do here? Did you work with Professor Leiter?"
  696. [21:12] <@Keeper> "I'm his assistant. He hired me to help him sift through an evaluate the Hobbhouse papers. That's actually what all this is." He cocks her head "I suppose it's all on me now."
  697. [21:13] <@Keeper> *sHE
  698. [21:13] <@Keeper> **She
  699. [21:15] <@Prof_Hartman> "Well we are actually here to go through some of his work for the Dean as well. I believe it was the Witch Trials papers right, Tommy?"
  700. 06[21:16] * @Tommy nods. "That's correct. We'll need to go through the late Professor's files and items to corroborate files and documents relating to it."
  701. [21:19] <@Keeper> "Oh, well, feel free to head in. I don't think you'll find the Witch Trial Papers in there though."
  702. [21:19] <@Tommy> "Oh? Did he keep them somewhere else, then?"
  703. [21:22] <@Keeper> "Not that I know of. I just haven't been able to find them - and Dean Fallon is really breathing down my neck. I haven't had any luck so I'm just trying to get the rest of it done."
  704. [21:22] <@Tommy> "Huh, well perhaps a fresh set of eyes will help things out."
  705. 06[21:23] * @Tommy starts to head in, but stops. "Oh and, have you been talking to a student here named Anthony Flinders?"
  706. [21:25] <@Keeper> She taps her chin with her pencil "Flinders? No. He was in one of my classes last year and I think he was the other person in consideration for this job, but I haven't spoken with him in a long time."
  707. [21:25] <@Keeper> "That's an odd question. Why are you asking about him?"
  708. [21:28] <@Prof_Hartman> "He was trying to get some info out of us. Seems there is a lot of rumors about what happened here."
  709. [21:29] <@Keeper> "Huh. Well, he might be trying to worm his way into a position like mine now that it's just me."
  710. [21:29] <@Keeper> "That's all I can figure. I don't really know him though."
  711. [21:32] <@Prof_Hartman> "May I ask you one more thing, and I know this will be hard but it is something that has been weighing on my mind. How are you? I have heard that you were the one who found the body."
  712. [21:36] <@Keeper> "I was shocked when I first found him. His eyes...there was just something unnatural about it. I can't get it out of my head." She pulls her pink cardigan tighter around her body "I've just been trying to keep myself occupied with the work and not think about it. I mean, apart from some initial...overtures, he was never really friendly with me but he was still my boss and I'd never seen...
  713. [21:36] <@Keeper> ...anyone dead before."
  714. 06[21:43] * @Tommy heads inside of the office while Hartman and Ms. Court talk.
  715. 06[21:43] * @Albert follows after Tommy, stepping in afterwards.
  716. [21:45] <@Prof_Hartman> "I am sorry that you had to go through that. It is never easy seeing something like that. Did you tell anyone about what you saw other than the authorities? Rumors are being spread around the campus."
  717. [21:47] <@Keeper> It's a small room, with a single desk, some filing cabinets, and a fireplace. On the wall are some framed paintings and Leiter's diplomas, as well as a mirror that's been shattered. The fireplace seems to be full of burnt documents just like the one at his home.
  718. [21:50] <@Albert> "This is looking a little familiar, isn't it?" Albert asks, stepping over to the fireplace to examine the documents.
  719. [21:50] <@Keeper> Looking at the broken mirror, Tommy notices that where once it was affixed to the wall with a mount the back seems to have been burned away and the mirror is now stuck to the wall through partially melted glass that has fused with it.
  720. [21:51] <@Tommy> "Huh...that's odd..."
  721. 06[21:52] * @Tommy examines the mirror, trying to see how it was still attached.
  722. 06[21:52] * @Albert peers from the documents to Tommy, and the mirror. "What's that?"
  723. [21:53] <@Tommy> "The mirror's been burnt. The backing's gone and it's only still up because the melted glass fused itself to the wall."
  724. [21:56] <@Albert> "...Extreme, unnatural heat. Now that IS familiar." Albert muses, interlocking his fingers. "The hearth is filled with files recording the intake of various valuable historical documents..."
  725. [21:59] <@Albert> "It doesn't make sense, does it? We're still completely in the dark about all of this." Albert sighs.
  726. [22:00] <@Keeper> Albert and Tommy suddenly see motion in their peripheral vision, something in the mirror.
  727. 06[22:01] * @Tommy freezes slightly. He swallows, knowing that he's about to regret this as he slowly turns to look in the mirror.
  728. [22:01] <@Albert> "Huh?" Albert slowly begins to stand, taking a step away from the hearth.
  729. [22:05] <@Keeper> A glowing, shimmering mass of worms akin in color to boiling blood and dying cinders interlocked and arranged in a roughly bipedal shaped. Some of the worms are larger and extend outward from its upper body with fanged maws on the ends, mounted on sort of a saddle joint akin to a human wrist with eyes inset slightly above the mouth.
  730. [22:08] <@Keeper> One of the appendages slowly cranes towards the surface of the mirror and Tommy darts out of the way. One of its eyes locks with Albert's and he is keenly aware that it knows the he's seen it. There's a rush of cold air and the mirror further shatters until finally all of the pieces dislodge and fall to the floor.
  731. 06[22:11] * @Albert takes hurried steps back, nearly tripping backwards. Luckily, the wall offers stability, and he rests against it, clutching his chest.
  732. 06[22:12] * @Tommy ducks away from the mirror, scrambling back against the wall near the door. "Jesus Christ. Did you see that too, Albert?!" He hisses, trying to control his voice and not yell.
  733. 06[22:12] * @Albert stares at the mirror shards, shivering. He cannot look Tommy in the eye, only nodding dumbly.
  734. [22:14] <@Tommy> "Why the fuck does this shit keep following us?!" He eyes the shards, glancing around the room for any sign of the creature, in case it was invisible or something.
  735. [22:14] <@Albert> "It saw me, it looked right at me... It ah... I have to go."
  736. 06[22:14] * @Albert keeps his eyes firmly planted on the shards as he reaches around blindly for the exit.
  737. 06[22:15] * @Tommy stops Albert, grabbing his shoulders. "Albert. Albert. Listen to me. Listen to me."
  738. 06[22:15] * @Albert gulps, finally managing to wrestle his gaze from the floor.
  739. [22:16] <@Tommy> "You cannot. I repeat, can NOT let anyone outside of our circle know about this fucking voodoo demon shit we just witnessed. You will be locked up because they'll think we're insane."
  740. 06[22:16] * @Tommy glances to the door. "In fact, I think we should pay a visit to the Sanitarium. Maybe that's why Professor Leiter was seeing someone there. Maybe they saw whatever the fuck it is we just saw."
  741. 06[22:17] * @Albert takes a few deep breaths to collect himself, finally resolute. "I think we need to see Mr. Hunter."
  742. [22:17] <@Albert> "Let's get out of here."
  743. [22:18] <@Tommy> "Yeah." Tommy dusts Albert's shoulders off, realizing he was gripping him a bit too hard.
  744. 06[22:18] * @Albert opens the door, uncertain steps leading him back to the rest of the group.
  745. 06[22:19] * @Prof_Hartman hands her his business card "Take my card. If you can think of anything or find anything regarding Professor Leiter's work please let us or the Dean know. It has been a pleasure meeting you but it appears we will have to conclude our business for now."
  746. [22:21] <@Keeper> She takes the card absent-mindedly, more stunned at Albert's reaction than anything. She cranes her neck to see into the office and possibly get a glimpse at what's spooked him. Finally she replies to Hartman "Alright, I'll help however I can."
  747. [22:23] <@Prof_Hartman> "Have a pleasant day."
  748. 06[22:23] * @Prof_Hartman motions to the group to get outside before we start talking
  749. 06[22:24] * @Albert ambles off, heading for the exit without a word.
  750. [22:29] <@Keeper> As he walks out the sun is going down and Albert just happens to look up. Fortunately he did because the upper body of a gargoyle looming above the entrance has broken off and is plummeting towards him. There is little time to react and the stone golem lands heavily on his shoulder.
  751. 06[22:29] * @Albert cries out, slamming against the ground from the force and shock of the blow. He lays sprawled out on his side, clutching his shoulder.
  752. 06[22:29] * @Prof_Hartman rushes to Albert's side "Are you alright?"
  753. 06[22:30] * @Albert grasps his shoulder, looking bewildered. He is speechless, completely surprised.
  754. [22:31] <@Tommy> "Jesus!" Tommy looks up where the gargoyle broke, to see if there are any more dangers.
  755. 06[22:31] * @Prof_Hartman helps Albert to his feet "Come along. Let's get you looked at. One advantage to being so close to a hospital, eh?"
  756. [22:31] <@Keeper> There are none that are apparent.
  757. 06[22:32] * @Albert blinks, peering up at the damaged gargoyle. "I think a lawsuit is in order..." He winces, cradling his shoulder.
  758. [22:34] <@Albert> "This can't... this can't be a coincidence... Tommy." He adds, giving him a genuinely fearful look.
  759. [22:36] <@Tommy> "Something similar happened to me when this whole...business began. Got flown out of a window and saw a dark shadow of a man watching me fall." Tommy mutters, nodding. "This is good, whatever we're searching for doesn't want us to keep going. We're on the right path."
  760. [22:37] <@Keeper> Later that evening...
  761. [22:47] <@Keeper> Hartman is fast asleep in his bed when he hears heavy footsteps creaking up his stairs. They're close, whoever it is must have broken in without him hearing.
  762. 06[22:49] * @Prof_Hartman arms himself and clicks on his lamp "Who is there?"
  763. [22:50] <@Prof_Hartman> "Announce yourself or be prepared for retaliation of something loud and un-negotiable."
  764. [22:52] <@Keeper> Whoever it is doesn't stop walking even when its apparent they've been found out, the footsteps continue until whoever it is stands right outside the door.
  765. 06[22:55] * @Prof_Hartman places himself in a protected position placing the bed between himself and the door. He grabs his plastic torch and makes sure there is plenty light so see his target "This is your final warning. I have already phoned the police."
  766. 06[22:57] * @Prof_Hartman cocks the hammer on his gun
  767. [23:00] <@Keeper> The person on the other side slams the door open with a vicious blow that splinters it in the middle, and in steps Professor Charles Leiter. He completely nude with the y incision from his autopsies plainly visible on his chest and his eyes, though burnt to a clotted mass of scar tissue, seem to have no problem tracking Hartman's movement. His lips are drawn into a toothy snarl but he makes...
  768. [23:00] <@Keeper> ...no noise. His body, animated by some blasphemous force, strides fearlessly across the room toward Hartman.
  769. 06[23:04] * @Prof_Hartman narrows his eyes and pulls the trigger
  770. [23:08] <@Keeper> The bullet hits Leiter plainly in the chest, but apart from making it jerk with the impact it seems to disregard the gunshot. It stalks across the room, stretching its arms out to seize Hartman by the throat.
  771. [23:13] <@Keeper> It connects, faster than one would expect from a dead man. Its finger tighten around Hartman's trachea, unable to bring the full force of its strength to bear but that will soon change.
  772. 06[23:14] * @Prof_Hartman struggles as hard as he can but it is clear he will have trouble breaking free by force. He brings his gun up to the dead man's chin and pulls the trigger once more.
  773. [23:16] <@Keeper> The bullet tears up through Leiter's skull, essentially opening up his face as it sails up into his frontal lobe and out the top of his skull. This bullet seems to affect the creature and it lets go of Hartman, staggering backward.
  774. [23:17] <@Keeper> It looks like it's about to collapse onto the floor, dead once again, but it catches itself on Hartman's bed post and regains its balance.
  775. [23:19] <@Keeper> It seems staggered and this is reflected in its blow, it connects but its only a glancing hit that mercifully diffuses its unholy power.
  776. 06[23:22] * @Prof_Hartman falls back into the wall but it gives him the stability he needs to level his weapon and fire possibly the best shot he has ever fired
  777. [23:25] <@Keeper> Another shot to the head, this time spearing through Leiter's brainstem and top cervical vertebrae. His head is flung back and it stays that way, attached only by the connective tissue on the back of his neck. There is no steadying this time, the Leiter crumples to the ground once again a corpse.
  778. 06[23:29] * @Prof_Hartman catches his breath before walking to the corpse "Don't lose your head, Professor. Stress can be deadly..."

  806. [19:07] <@Jagenzollern> You each receive a call in the middle of the night, the operator connecting you to a panicked Hartman who tells you in a hurried but whispering tone that you need to get out to his home in the country immediately. Perhaps fearing the operator listening in, he doesn't say why and quickly clears the line to call the others.
  807. 03[19:07] * Jagenzollern is now known as Keeper
  808. 03[19:07] * Keeper is now known as Raphaela
  809. 01[19:11] <@Beckman> "No god damn you don't you hang up on-"
  810. [19:14] <@Raphaela> It seems brighter in Beckman's room that usual, there are lights shining through Beckman's window somewhere outside and high above. It's not a constant light like that of the moon or something artificial, but flickering not unlike a flame.
  811. 01[19:14] <@Beckman> Upon hearing the dial tone on the closed call, James angrily hangs up the phone. He angles out of his bed, wiping his face with his hands. No doubt his father heard the phone ring, best to check... on...
  812. 01[19:14] <@Beckman> "...the hell is that?"
  813. 06[19:14] * @Beckman walks to the window and squints out.
  814. [19:17] <@Raphaela> High above in the sky, suspended by nothing at all, are three sickly green flamer churning and roiling hatefully while slowly descending down toward whatever point in town that they loom over.
  815. [19:19] <@Raphaela> *flames
  816. 06[19:20] * @Beckman looks at that. He blinks, wipes his face again, then sighs and walks back into his room.
  817. 01[19:20] <@Beckman> "Fuck this town, seriously, the fuck is wrong with this place."
  818. [19:21] <@Raphaela> Perhaps sensing that they're being observed, their plummet accelerates and lands down somewhere in Arkham. It's difficult to tell where.
  819. [19:21] <@Raphaela> Nevertheless they slip down out of sight.
  820. 01[19:22] <@Beckman> He walks up to his father's room, checks up on him, gets him a glass of water, then leaves to meet with Hartman and presumably the rest of the gang.
  821. [19:37] <@Raphaela> A black Rolls Royce Silver Ghost pulls out of a nearby alley when Beckman leaves his home, merging onto the street and tailing Beckman at a short distance. Being that it's late at night, after a few turns Beckman catches on to his pursuers...
  822. [19:37] <@Raphaela> The two are the only vehicles on the road.
  823. 01[19:41] <@Beckman> Noticing this, Beckman increases his speed slightly, continuing to glance up at his rearview mirror. He takes his turns a little quicker, he merges more aggressively, but tries to play it off as just trying to get going faster.
  824. [19:45] <@Raphaela> He's putting distance between him and his pursuers and for a moment, it looks like they won't be able to catch up without and out and out vehicles chase through the Arkham streets. Then Beckman take another look back at the car tailing him and when he returns his gaze to the road there's a pedestrian crossing in his path. It's an old man, a vagrant of some kind, who turns and regards the...
  825. [19:45] <@Raphaela> ...oncoming car with wild fearful eyes.
  826. 03[19:46] * Doc (chatzilla@ihw-avs0l7.hstntx.sbcglobal.net) has joined #arkham
  827. 03[19:46] * Doc is now known as Prof_Hartman
  828. 01[19:47] <@Beckman> There's no choice involved. James jacks the car far out of the way of the old man.
  829. [19:50] <@Raphaela> It sets him on a collision course with a nearby building. Beckman's vehicle slams into a curb and smashes a fire hydrant on the sidewalk, popping into the air and tipping forward before crashing back down and sailing into the storefront of the nearby bakery.
  830. 03[19:51] * Raphaela sets mode: +o Prof_Hartman
  831. [19:55] <@Raphaela> The Silver Ghost pulls up to the curb outside. James can hear the two car doors open and slam shut and two footsteps approaching, shoes clattering over broken glass.
  832. 06[19:59] * @Beckman whips around at the sound of the glass crunching, a furious expression on his face. "Who the rotten hell are YOU? Why have you been tailing me?"
  833. [20:04] <@Raphaela> It's the two Atlantic City men from Leiter's cottage. The big one, Oakes, slips on a pair of knuckledusters behind the older man. It's the latter who says "Good evening, Mac. It looks like you've been in some kind of car accident."
  834. [20:04] <@Raphaela> "Good thing a couple of stand-up guys like us showed up. By the by, where the fuck is Charles Leiter?"
  835. 03[20:04] * Mary (chatzilla@ihw-lq0j90.ip.windstream.net) has joined #arkham
  836. 06[20:11] * @Beckman turns his body at that and considers his options. "Hold on, let me call him."
  837. 01[20:13] <@Beckman> He then leans back into his wheel and pushes it in, sounding the astoundingly loud horn of the Cadillac Model 55. Not just a press, but a continuous siren.
  838. 01[20:13] <@Beckman> As he does that, he grabs the handle of the enchanted dagger.
  839. 01[20:13] <@Beckman> Go time.
  840. 03[20:18] * Raphaela changes topic to 'Oakes and Shaunassy 70, Beckman 55'
  841. 01[20:27] <@Beckman> Using the shock of a loud sound like that to get an advantage over the goons, he whips the Gothic knife upward. Cloth and flesh and bone be damned, he knows it doesn't stall this blade. With luck the bastard will die right away.
  842. [20:30] <@Raphaela> It almost works. The knife passes through the flesh beautifully, but the man is a trained brawler and gets his hands up. It passes clean through his hand and slips into his body behind it, but stops at the hilt before the blade can pierce a vital organ.
  843. [20:38] <@Raphaela> The old man turns, fighting through the pain, and slams his brass knuckle clad fist into Beckman's jaw. He's really strong for an older guy and lands a solid hit.
  844. [20:39] <@Raphaela> Oakes, meanwhile, draws a .32 and takes aim. He's obviously reluctant to fire into his friends back and errs on the side of hitting nothing by swinging his aim towards the outside. A good decision because his bullet sails past the melee majestically.
  845. 01[20:43] <@Beckman> James takes the hit right to the jaw, and he swoons in pain. This is awful. Forget getting bloodied up, he might die from this. Damned old man.
  846. 01[20:44] <@Beckman> He swings his knife again, praying it solves all his problems for him.
  847. [20:49] <@Raphaela> The man ducks the swing and expertly turn the movement into an uppercut, bringing his fist up into Beckman's chin and causing him to lose consciousness...
  848. [20:49] <@Raphaela> Meanwhile, the rest of the investigators arrive one by one at Hartman's countryside estate.
  849. 06[20:50] * @Albert drives up in his own car, yawning due to his already rough sleep being interrupted. His shotgun sits in the backseat, boxed.
  850. 06[20:51] * @Albert winces as he steps out, still nursing his bandaged shoulder.
  851. 06[20:56] * Mary arrives at Professor Hartman's house. She's not sure what she's expecting except for trouble. She knocks on the door.
  852. 06[20:56] * @Tommy looks tired, glancing up at the sky periodically as he parks his bike near the front door. He approaches the front door, and uses the doorknocker to issue a loud announcement of his arrival.
  853. [20:56] <@Albert> "You guys got called too?" Albert asks, approaching quickly to bridge the gap.
  854. [20:57] <Mary> "I guess I was so nervous I didn't even know you were here, Tommy." *Mary Alice chuckles* "I guess that's why we went for the door at the same time."
  855. [20:57] <@Tommy> "Yeah. You two see the light in the sky on the way over, by the way?"
  856. [20:58] <Mary> *Oblivious, Mary asks, "Light? Where?"
  857. [21:00] <@Tommy> "The...sky." Tommy repeats, pointing up into the starry blackness.
  858. 06[21:00] * @Prof_Hartman approaches the door dressed in slacks and a shirt that was clearly hastily buttoned. He carries a glass of scotch in his hand as he opens the door.
  859. [21:00] <@Albert> "Lights in the sky? Can't say I did... I did hurry over though, I'm still tired."
  860. 06[21:01] * @Prof_Hartman looks over all the people before motioning for them to enter his home.
  861. 06[21:01] * @Albert shoots the others an uncertain glance before following Hartman inside.
  862. 06[21:04] * @Tommy follows Albert inside.
  863. 06[21:05] * Mary is the last to enter the house glancing over her shoulder before entering
  864. [21:07] <@Albert> "So... are you... well? Why are we here, Hartman?"
  865. [21:08] <@Prof_Hartman> The inside of the home has high ceilings and its decor belongs more in a college library than house. Hartman leads the group through the foyer into the den. There are various antiques with a cross of rapiers above the fireplace and bookshelves filled with books line most of the walls.
  866. 06[21:10] * @Prof_Hartman he moves to a small liquor cabinet and pours himself another drink. Next to the fireplace is a rolled up rug with some obvious feet sticking out of one end.
  867. 06[21:10] * @Patrick shuffled along at the ass end of the group- simply gawking at the decorations in the home like a tourist in a museum.
  868. 06[21:11] * @Albert looks from the rug to the feet, to Hartman, and then back to the rug. "Uh..."
  869. 06[21:14] * @Prof_Hartman takes a seat and he clearly has his revolver tucked into a holster hanging off the top corner of the chair "I have had...a bit of a night."
  870. 06[21:16] * @Prof_Hartman points to the rug with his glass "If you are wondering who is in that rug, let me reintroduce you to Professor Leiter."
  871. [21:18] <@Tommy> "You go grave robbing, Hartman?"
  872. 06[21:19] * @Albert rubs the back of his neck, approaching the rug sheepishly. "It's two in the morning, can you make some sense?"
  873. [21:25] <@Prof_Hartman> "I'm afraid not. Leiter came here of his own regard. Apparently he had a grudge."
  874. 06[21:26] * @Albert looks over to Tommy, and then the door out of Hartman's home.
  875. [21:27] <@Prof_Hartman> "I awoke to someone stomping about my home only to find this corpse worked its way upstairs before I put three rounds into it."
  876. [21:28] <@Albert> "I guess ah, I'd better have a look." He moves over to one side of the rug. "Tommy, can you get that end?"
  877. [21:28] <@Tommy> "Do I have to?"
  878. 06[21:29] * @Tommy heads to the other end of the rug anyway."
  879. 06[21:29] * @Prof_Hartman draws his pistol and cocks the hammer "I'm ready when you are but i'm not taking chances either so if it moves I suggest you step away."
  880. 06[21:31] * @Albert begins to unfurl the rug slowly.
  881. [21:32] <@Tommy> "Were it not for the bullshit we've already seen, I'd think you've gone crazy, professor." He grumbles as he helps Albert unfurl the rug.
  882. 06[21:32] * @Albert reveals the corpse, taking a step back as he uncovers Leiter.
  883. [21:34] <@Raphaela> The corpse rolls out of the carpet, head lolling to the side. What's left of it anyway, Hartman's gunplay having made a pez dispenser out of it in addition to the hold clean into the heart.
  884. [21:35] <@Albert> "Oh Jesus. What the hell?"
  885. [21:36] <@Raphaela> Prior to that its nerves had been burnt out. Based on what Albert saw in his examination Leiter shouldn't have even been able to move even if he were alive in defiance of all reason. It violates all conventions of human anatomy.
  886. 06[21:37] * @Albert prods at the body for a few moments, lost in thought. "I don't get it. You're saying Leiter, deceased, just walked here and you shot him again?"
  887. [21:39] <@Prof_Hartman> "That or I somehow dragged him here to shoot him for fun. I'll let you decide."
  888. [21:41] <@Tommy> "You see anything before Leiter showed up, Hartman?"
  889. [21:46] <@Prof_Hartman> "I was sleeping so no."
  890. [21:47] <@Albert> "So, you killed him again? What stopped him? The shot to the head? Curious..."
  891. [21:48] <@Prof_Hartman> "Pretty sure it was all the shots but the head one put him down at the end."
  892. [21:49] <@Albert> "and why you? Why would Leiter look to harm you?"
  893. 06[21:49] * @Prof_Hartman swishes his drink around in its glass "Maybe he flipped a coin..."
  894. [21:53] <@Prof_Hartman> "I honestly have no idea. I never met him before when he was alive either."
  895. 06[21:54] * @Albert sighs, "Well, I'm at a loss. There was something definitely off about his body, but I never suspected it would become animate!"
  896. [21:55] <@Albert> "How are we going to explain these new wounds? Christ."
  897. [21:55] <@Prof_Hartman> "Is there nothing you can do? Maybe dress it up?"
  898. 06[21:55] * @Tommy finds a chair and sits in it, rubbing the bridge of his nose. "The dead are walking, there's green fires in the sky, not to mention the flying knife and the jackal-things. Christ, is this the end of the world or something?"
  899. 06[21:57] * @Albert looks at Hartman with disbelief, "I can't exactly hide his neck hanging by a string!"
  900. 06[21:58] * @Albert leans back, coming to sit on the floor. He rests his arms on his knees, staring straight ahead. "The fire in the sky, tell us about it?"
  901. [21:59] <@Prof_Hartman> "First I've heard of this. Fire in the sky? I've been a bit busy as you can see."
  902. [22:00] <@Tommy> "It was a green fire, what can I say? I took a photo of it. It hung in the air for a while, and then it fell. One of them looked like it fell towards the university?"
  903. [22:02] <@Albert> "So... this fire, it hits the university... and rouses Leiter?"
  904. [22:02] <@Prof_Hartman> "Bit of a stretch there, even by our experiences."
  905. [22:03] <@Albert> "Well. We can't leave him here, and I don't want to put him in my car."
  906. 06[22:03] * @Tommy shakes his head. "I saw it after Hartman called me."
  907. [22:04] <@Tommy> "I'm not usually up at 2am." Tommy considers this. "Unless it's for work."
  908. [22:04] <@Prof_Hartman> "Well I have a plan. We take the body back and you claim you did a second examination."
  909. [22:04] <@Prof_Hartman> "Maybe tell them that Tommy was helping you and made a mistake or something."
  910. [22:06] <@Tommy> "What kind of mistake requires several bullet holes?"
  911. [22:07] <@Prof_Hartman> "Nothing a little more carving up can't fix."
  912. 06[22:07] * @Albert runs a hand through his hair. "That could be damaging to my career, Hartman. If the truth is found out I'd be finished. Not to mention possibly arrested."
  913. [22:09] <@Prof_Hartman> "That is only if people found out. This is already being kept hush hush because the circumstances. I think we are safe on that front."
  914. [22:09] <@Prof_Hartman> "It is that or we completely destroy the body. I won't have a corpse attempting to choke me in my sleep again."
  915. [22:10] <@Albert> "You raise a good point, whose to say if we return him he won't just get back up against and come for you?"
  916. [22:11] <@Tommy> "So what, we find an incinerator? I'm pretty sure lighting it on fire would attract more attention, let alone the smell."
  917. [22:13] <@Albert> "Hm, ask O'Brien. You called him, right?"
  918. [22:14] <@Albert> *O'Donnel
  919. [22:21] <@Tommy> "I didn't. Hartman?"
  920. [22:23] <@Patrick> "Oi'm a smuggler- not ah cleanup crew." Patrick sounded somewhat perplexed, those gears grinding away in his head. "Uh-... What if we use something *strong* like loi?"
  921. 06[22:24] * @Albert slouches a little, "Those two gangsters were looking for Leiter... maybe they'd take him off our hands?"
  922. [22:25] <@Prof_Hartman> "Those two are some of the last ones I'd like to see. They look like they'd spread the news we don't want spread."
  923. [22:25] <@Tommy> "Yeah I'd rather not deal with them any time soon."
  924. [22:25] <@Albert> "I'm out of ideas, bury him deep?"
  925. [22:28] <@Tommy> "Well assuming it doesn't dig itself out."
  926. [22:28] <@Tommy> "Salt and crosses?"
  927. [22:30] <@Prof_Hartman> "Well then lets just take it apart. Cut it up and bury the parts far away from me."
  928. 06[22:35] * @Albert stands up, "You have fun with that."
  929. 06[22:35] * @Tommy looks at the irishman to take the brunt of the work.
  930. [22:37] <@Patrick> "...Oi'm not even wearing me nice work clothes-" Complaining but kneeling down, he gripped the feet, dragging the rolled up carpet and corpse towards the hallway. "Where's tha shed?"
  931. [22:39] <@Prof_Hartman> "Thanks for coming out to determine that I in fact killed the already dead man. You have been such a help, Albert."
  932. 06[22:45] * @Prof_Hartman finishes his drink and looks around after Albert's comment "Hold on a moment...Where is Beckman?"
  933. [22:45] <@Prof_Hartman> "I'm certain I called everyone in our little group."
  934. 06[22:45] * @Albert shrugs, "Maybe he's held up or occupied."
  935. [22:46] <@Tommy> "If he's smart he fell back asleep."
  936. [22:49] <@Albert> "Body's the more pressing issue, anyways."
  937. [22:49] <@Raphaela> ...
  938. [22:53] <@Raphaela> By dawn the late Leiter has been dismembered and his part piled into a crackling fire pit. The smell is noxious and it's harder to burn than you'd think, requiring constant attention to keep burning.
  939. [22:55] <@Raphaela> Patrick is covered in blood, as is anyone who assisted him. You all smell like burning death. Mary in particular seems thrown by this turn of events, the dead she's used to dealing with being considerably more incorporeal and requiring less disposal.
  940. [22:56] <@Raphaela> The night has now slipped away.
  941. 06[22:58] * @Prof_Hartman heads to the group with a worried look "I can't seem to reach Beckman and it has been hours."
  942. [23:00] <@Albert> "We could check at his house?"
  943. [23:00] <@Prof_Hartman> "I called everyone here not only to help me but to make sure none of us were attacked like I was and now I'm starting to think Beckman may be in trouble. He told me he was on his way."
  944. 06[23:00] * @Prof_Hartman heads towards the house, tucking his shirt into his trousers "Good idea but we should all stick together on this one. Let's go."
  945. 06[23:01] * @Tommy nods.
  946. [23:09] <@Raphaela> You all pile into somebody's car and drive in town, heading toward Beckman's house. Inside city limits and heading down Derby street you see oscillating red lights playing across the windows of various nearby buildings and fear the worst. When you drive up there is a crowd kept at bay by policeman manning barricades in front a bakery with a destroyed storefront. You look at the scene of the...
  947. [23:09] <@Raphaela> ...wreckage and see Beckman's Cadillac Model 55 in the epicenter of the event.
  948. [23:11] <@Albert> "Oh god..." Albert stops his own car at the horrible scene.

  986. 03[19:16] * Jagenzollern is now known as Keeper
  987. [19:18] <@Keeper> The police on the scene try to keep the crowd at bay, but this is the most interesting thing to happen in a while. Someone in the crowd spots blood on the floor and calls it out almost jubilantly, as if he were some kind of explorer that just made a huge discovery. The crowd pushes in and get a "Nothing to see here" for their troubles. It's not until Mickey Harrigan threatens to start making...
  988. [19:18] <@Keeper> ...arrests that they back off and people start to filter away to go gossip privately.
  989. [19:20] <@Keeper> There is blood on the floor of the bakery, not a huge amount but it's there. Beckman doesn't seem to be there, but that's about all you can tell from this distance.
  990. 06[19:24] * @Tommy approaches the cordon. "Excuse me, Tommy Moore of the Arkham Advertiser? I'd like to take some photos. I won't touch the crime scene, let you boys do your detective work." As he speaks, he tries to squeeze by regardless of their answer.
  991. 03[19:29] * DrunkPatrick is now known as Patrick
  992. [19:30] <@Keeper> Harrigan squints at you, a glimmer of recognition playing across his expression before the effort to recall Tommy becomes too much given everything he has to do right now. "Well, I suppose it's okay. Come on through." A flashbulb goes off just as Tommy does.
  993. [19:32] <@Keeper> William Peck from the Arkham Gazette is already on the scene. Forty-four years of age and starting to pack on the weight, with a bow-tie and a tweed jacket that makes him look a bit professorial behind thick circular glasses. The Peck family has a long-standing history in Arkham.
  994. [19:33] <@Keeper> He doesn't seem with how his photos are coming out, but he looks pretty good in his tweeds.
  995. 06[19:34] * @Tommy pulls out his camera, lips thinning as he sees the flashbulb. With the Arkham Gazette here, he was almost livid. On top of the worry he felt for Beckman, he'd almost be as emotional as the drunks he's been unfortunately forced to work for. With a quick inhalation to calm his nerves, he took some pictures of the scene, keeping an eye out for Beckman or any clues as to what happened.
  996. [19:39] <@Keeper> Tommy's photograph catches Peck's attention and he jerks his head sideways like a territorial animal spotting an intruder. "Moore." His tone is venomous "Anytime something happens we can always count on you to show up and sensationalize it."
  997. [19:40] <@Tommy> "Funny, I could say the same for you, Peck. What's the matter, afraid your paper isn't going to be worth the ink printed on it?"
  998. [19:44] <@Keeper> "Our pedigree speaks for itself, established in 1806 and still going strong. We're the publication that people trust because we deliver only the facts." He sounds like an ad, but there's pride in his voice.
  999. [19:45] <@Keeper> "I can't wait to see your interpretation of events. Let me guess...a ghost did it?"
1000. [19:46] <@Tommy> "Way to earn your paycheck, Peck. You make a great newsboy." He takes another photo. "Three ghosts and a werewolf, if my guess is correct." He sarcastically replies. "Of course not. The Arkham Advertiser is only interested in the truth, not your sensationalism."
1001. 06[19:51] * @Albert continues to watch from his parked vehicle, apprehensive. Finally he elects to join up with Tommy, hopefully being allowed through.
1002. [19:52] <@Albert> "Do you mind if I help you boys out?" Albert asks Harrigan harmlessly.
1003. [19:53] <@Keeper> Harrington gives Albert a quick nod and allows him to pass on through.
1004. 06[19:54] * @Albert approaches the accident anxiously. He quickly bridges the gap to Tommy. "What do you think?" He asks, beginning to survey the damage.
  1005. 02[19:55] * @Mary (chatzilla@ihw-o3hsnt.ip.windstream.net) Quit (Connection closed)
1006. [19:57] <@Tommy> "Welp, as I've told Peck here. Three ghosts and a werewolf."
  1007. 06[19:57] * @Tommy gives Albert a "later" look.
  1008. 06[19:57] * @Albert glances up at Peck for a moment, unimpressed.
  1009. [19:57] <@Albert> "Hmm."
1010. 06[20:00] * @Albert keeps his voice down to a whisper, "Looks like an altercation, not just a crash. Somebody got slashed I'd wager."
1011. 06[20:00] * @Albert points to the disturbed pool of blood, indicating the sharp divide between it.
1012. [20:01] <@Albert> "You may be more right than you know..."
1013. 06[20:02] * @Tommy mutters quietly. "Well it's not from the car. Something happened to Beckman outside of his car."
1014. [20:03] <@Albert> "He's in trouble, we have to find him fast. But where..?"
1015. 06[20:03] * @Tommy jerks his head towards the road slightly. "And there are skidmarks over there. He was going fast, swerved, and hit the bakery."
  1016. 03[20:04] * Mary (chatzilla@ihw-o3hsnt.ip.windstream.net) has joined #arkham
1017. 06[20:08] * @Albert looks on hopelessly, "What do you want to do?"
1018. 06[20:13] * @Albert takes a moment to reflect on the day, those who they could have possibly pissed off just in the week. The two criminals who threatened them suddenly pop into mind.
1019. 06[20:14] * @Albert hurries up and back through the police line, looking for Patrick.
  1020. 03[20:14] * Keeper sets mode: +o Mary
1021. 06[20:16] * @Patrick is around, thinking over the crime scene, evidence, and whatnot.
1022. 06[20:17] * @Albert approaches Patrick quickly, "I think we may be looking for two criminals, possibly even Mafioso."
1023. [20:17] <@Albert> "People who wanted the body we just got rid of, people willing to take hostages if they don't get what they want."
  1024. [20:18] <@Patrick> "Loike- Italian mob ohr- ?"
1025. [20:18] <@Albert> "Italian, at least I think so. Rough customers."
1026. [20:19] <@Albert> "From out of town, Atlantic City I believe."
1027. [20:20] <@Patrick> "Most Italian mod types ahr 'ruff custoomers.' Got a more substantial des- dee- What's they look loike?"
1028. [20:20] <@Albert> "I was uh, actually hiding..." Albert admits sheepishly. "But Tommy or Doc would have gotten a good look!"
1029. [20:28] <@Patrick> "Hum- If Oy had ta take a guess, I'd say they're probably from- ohr mebbe just at Hibb's Roadhouse."
  1030. [20:30] <@Albert> "You think that's where they'd hold him?"
1031. [20:34] <@Patrick> "Dunno- moight be bad fer business storing uhm-" Patrick tilts his head. "Storing 'ostages in the same place as yer harlots."
1032. [20:35] <@Tommy> "True. Didn't see any harlots when we dealt with your friends."
1033. 06[20:35] * @Albert can only nod, pretending to understand the inner-workings of a criminal empire.
1034. [20:35] <@Albert> "So what do we do? They're our best lead."
1035. [20:35] <@Tommy> "Well then, aren't they your competition? I'm sure your boys would enjoy it if we took Beckman back from them.
1036. [20:40] <@Patrick> "M'not sure. A gang war sounds loikea big mess of trouble."
  1037. [20:41] <@Tommy> "We're already in a 'big mess of trouble'."
1038. [20:42] <@Albert> "Well, there's the three of us and Ms. Bangerter..."
  1039. [20:42] <@Albert> "I don't like OUR odds alone."
1040. [20:42] <@Tommy> "Shit, I'm not sure if she's seen a gun, let alone been shot at before."
1041. [20:45] <@Albert> "Maybe this should be handled by the police?" Albert asks.

  1048. 03[20:49] * Rejoined channel #arkham
1049. [20:50] <@Tommy> "Right, if the police could handle this, there wouldn't be either an Irish or an Italian mob."
1050. [20:50] <@Mary> "Those shiny metal things that go BANG?" Mary look at both Albert and Tommy. She replies to both with just a dash of sarcasm, "Nah. I've never seen them before. Good Heavens, a lady shouldn't be around such things."
  1051. 02[20:51] * @Beckman (OrdoXenos@ihw-kqmula.sndgca.sbcglobal.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
1052. [20:53] <@Albert> "So we're going to go shoot at some gangsters then?"
1053. [20:53] <@Patrick> "Tat's right dear wee bonnie lass. Guns is fer men to go using." OBVIOUSLY it was a man's obligation to do all the fighting, smoking, tough housing, and heavy lifting while women did-... you know- women things. Like cooking.
1054. 03[20:54] * GoldenThrones_ is now known as Beckman
1055. [20:57] <@Tommy> "Patrick, we'll need to talk to your people. Get some of the guys that hate the italians, and we can do this off the books."
1056. [20:58] <@Patrick> "Every thing about 'off the books' only makes me think of those two when you think this is all simple. We got rules and structures and regulations ohr something."
1057. [21:00] <@Tommy> "Alright, then, how do we make these rules work? Every second we spend dicking around they're probably taking a crowbar to his legs."
1058. [21:08] <@Mary> "If you don't want to break in guns blazing, why not send a spy? Can you do that?"
1059. [21:09] <@Albert> "Tommy has a way with words... maybe he could feel it out? Pretend to be a patron?"
1060. [21:09] <@Albert> "Ask to look at some ladies, maybe uhh... I dunno?"
1061. [21:10] <@Tommy> "If you lend me some cash for it, I'll do that. Unfortunately I'm not a big spender and I don't think these guys are going to be impressed by anyone but a big spender."
  1062. [21:11] <@Mary> "What constitutes a big spender?"
  1063. [21:12] <@Tommy> "I'll just ask Hartman. Fucker's loaded."
  1064. [21:12] <@Keeper> "I'm right here..."
  1065. [21:12] <@Keeper> "But I'll do it."
1066. [21:12] <@Albert> "Thanks Hartman, we can always depend on you."
  1067. [21:13] <@Tommy> "Oh hey, Hartman." Tommy gives a sincere-looking-but-obviously-not-sincere smile.
1068. [21:14] <@Albert> "Sounds like the best course of action, for now..."
  1069. 02[21:18] * @Mary (chatzilla@ihw-o3hsnt.ip.windstream.net) Quit (Quit: ChatZilla 0.9.93 [Firefox 52.0.2/20170323105023])
  1070. 03[21:26] * Mary (chatzilla@ihw-o3hsnt.ip.windstream.net) has joined #arkham
1071. [21:34] <Mary> "I don't think I'll be going with everyone into a whore house. I'm thinking I'd stick out. On top of that, more than just one or two people spying on people seems like it would increase our chances for trouble. Honestly, the odds don't seem like they're in our favor anyway."
1072. [21:34] <@Albert> "You get used to it..." Albert laments.
  1073. [21:34] <@Keeper> Later that evening...
1074. [21:38] <@Keeper> The four investigators pull up to Hibb's Roadhouse, a two-story wooden building that isn't decrepit but quite clearly aged. There's a gravel lot for parking off the dirt road and jazz music spills out into the night air from inside. A colored doorman stands outside, hands in his pockets as he tries to keep warm in the cold night. Mary waits in the car while the three others approach,...
1075. [21:38] <@Keeper> ...staggering their arrival one after another a few minutes apart.
1076. [21:41] <@Keeper> "Don' make no trouble now" he warns you as he lets you inside. There is a black jazz band playing on a stage across the room with a dance floor that nobody is using. Everyone is either parked at a table being bussed by scantily clad "waitresses" or sat at the bar.
1077. 06[21:42] * @Albert whistles to himself, impressed by the ladies.
1078. 06[21:43] * @Tommy heads towards the back of the establishment, straightening his tie as he does so.
1079. 06[21:49] * @Albert heads over to the bar, intent on blending in by ordering a drink.
1080. [21:50] <@Keeper> Tommy enters the back room and cigarette smoke billows out. Four men and a dealer are sat around the table and look up, eyeing Tommy with surprise.
1081. [21:51] <@Keeper> "Just who are you supposed to be?" one of the men asks of him.
1082. [21:51] <@Tommy> "Someone about to clean you out. Deal me in." Tommy takes a seat, keeping full confidence as he does so.
1083. [21:53] <@Keeper> The men glare at Tommy, obviously put off by his over-familiarity. "We don't know you. You're going to need to put your dough on the table up front."
1084. [21:54] <@Tommy> "Fine fine. Jeez. Friendly guys, you lot." He puts down Hartman's money on the table.
1085. [21:55] <@Keeper> The dealer nods and says "Siddown" while shuffling the deck.
1086. [21:56] <@Keeper> The deck is cut and Tommy's first hand is dealt. Jack of Hearts and Four of Hearts.
1087. [21:58] <@Keeper> One man folds outright, the little blinds calls, and the other two check. It's Tommy's play.
1088. 06[22:03] * @Tommy doesn't really like his cards, and folds early while the getting was good.
1089. [22:07] <@Tommy> "So an acquaintance recommended me to this place. Very nice establishment you got here." Tommy starts out.
1090. [22:11] <@Keeper> "Oh yeah?" the dealer asks "Who told you?"
1091. [22:12] <@Tommy> "Oh c'mon, you know the guy. White hair, older gent. From Atlantic City? Now c'mon, deal those cards again, I've got a hot streak coming on, I can feel it."
1092. [22:17] <@Keeper> The dealer starts to deal out the next hand "I think I know who you're talking about. Hangs out with a bigger fella?" The cards around great. Three of clubs and Jack of Diamonds.
1093. [22:17] <@Tommy> "Yeah, quiet sort that one."
1094. [22:21] <@Keeper> He grunts "Yeah. They've been in here a few times. Criticized my dealing - thinkin' just because they're from Atlantic City that they got cards all figured out."
1095. [22:21] <@Keeper> "Elitist bozos for such obvious hoods."
1096. 06[22:23] * @Tommy folds. The next one for sure. "Yeah, what can you do. Shit, what kind of place do they go to to be elitists at? I can only imagine the dames they have there if this place isn't good enough."
1097. [22:27] <@Keeper> "Nah, they still come here most nights. It's just that the Atlantic City boardwalk is where all the gambling is so they come up here and think they're hot stuff. Got no where else to go though, unless they want to play monty with Freen back in town."
1098. [22:29] <@Keeper> Tommy is the big blind and his cards are still not great. The flop happens and things still aren't great. He could pull out a win on the turn and the river but it doesn't look good.
1099. [22:33] <@Keeper> The turn and river are both diamonds, giving Tommy a pretty decent flush. He calls another player's raise and beats out his three of a kind.
1100. [22:37] <@Tommy> "Ah, the boardwalk? I'll have to check it out then for a game or two then. You know of any other places those two have been hanging around? With egos like that surely they know some primo spots they're not talking about. Gotta get in on that action."
1101. [22:39] <@Keeper> "No, they're new in town and not exactly best friends with anyone around here. They come here most nights though."
1102. [22:39] <@Keeper> "If you stick around you'll probably see them around."
1103. 06[22:48] * @Tommy nods, before checking his pocket watch. "Ah shit, I better head out. I'll be back again soon to clean you fellas out though, don't you worry." He excuses himself, heading to the bar and keeping his eyes open for anything suspicious.
1104. [22:51] <@Keeper> Unfortunately it doesn't look like either of the hoods have shown up while he was playing cards. Patrick and Albert are sat at the bar, nursing drinks and see him approach.
1105. 06[22:52] * @Albert idles with the glass in his hand, eyes on the front door.
  1106. [22:55] <@Albert> "Haven't seen either of them yet..."
1107. 06[22:57] * @Tommy orders a drink as he sits next to them. He speaks quietly to them. "Didn't find much from the game. Only people they tend to speak with is apparently some guy named Freen they play monty with. They must have a hotel room though."
1108. [22:59] <@Albert> "Looks like we're gonna be here for awhile, so don't drink too much."
1109. [23:01] <@Tommy> "Well shit, I better keep my face down. They know what I look like."
1110. [23:02] <@Tommy> "I'm going to head back to the car." He downs his drink, before taking his leave.
1111. [23:04] <@Keeper> And now we play the waiting game...
  1112. 02[23:08] * @Patrick (chatzilla@ihw-u4l9d9.jcvlfl.sbcglobal.net) Quit (Connection closed)
1113. [23:10] <@Keeper> A couple hours later, Tommy's eyelids begin to get heavy. It's cold and miserable outside but soon another car pulls up and parks in front of the Roadhouse.
1114. [23:11] <@Keeper> The big man, Oakes, gets out alone and starts to head towards the door.
1115. 06[23:13] * @Tommy watches Oakes, waiting for him to head inside. When, or rather if he does, he'll head to his car and see if he can find any clues in there.
1116. [23:14] <@Keeper> It's unsurprisingly locked and it's too dark to make much out of what's inside. But there a bunch of scattered papers on the inside.
1117. 06[23:16] * @Tommy attempts to pick the lock, before remembering his feeble, flailing attempts on that apartment door a while back. Suppressing a shiver at the awful memories, he tries again, failing just as spectacularly as before. Pressing his face to the glass, Tommy tries to make out the text on the papers.
  1118. 06[23:22] * @Tommy heads inside to grab a matchbook.
1119. 06[23:23] * @Tommy heads back out, striking a match to peer into the car with.
1120. 06[23:28] * @Tommy extinguishes the match and heads back into the speakeasy to fetch Patrick and Albert.
1121. 06[23:29] * @Albert pays for his drinks, following after Tommy.
1122. [23:30] <@Keeper> And Patrick follows, staggering out comically.
1123. [23:33] <@Tommy> "Right." Tommy says as they all enter the car. "I'm pretty sure they're staying at the Borden Arms Hotel. It's a cheap place for undesirables, so they're probably keeping Beckman there, and if not, that's where they're staying."
1124. [23:33] <@Tommy> "We can ambush them there, if need be."
  1125. 06[23:34] * @Albert nods, "You get an address?"
1126. [23:35] <@Tommy> "488 West High Lane. Same street as my workplace." He points a finger at Albert. "Don't get any ideas about the quality of the paper just because someone decided to plop a run down hotel near it."
1127. [23:35] <@Albert> "You want to wait for him to come out and tail him or just head down now?"
1128. [23:36] <@Tommy> "Let's head out now. The other guy wasn't with him, and apparently they're joined at the hip. So he's probably back at the hotel."
1129. [23:36] <@Tommy> "And this fella may be in the bar for God knows how long."
1130. 06[23:36] * @Albert nods, turning the key in the ignition and backing out onto the road.
1131. [23:36] <@Tommy> "Better to jump one than two."
  1132. [23:37] <@Albert> "Makes sense."
1133. 06[23:37] * @Albert drives the group over to 488 West High Lane.
  1134. 03[23:39] * Mary_ (chatzilla@ihw-dcs5hb.ip.windstream.net) has joined #arkham
1135. [23:39] <@Keeper> It's about midnight when they pull up outside the motel. It's on the corner of an intersection with an alley running down the north side of it between it and an abandoned storefront.
1136. [23:39] <@Albert> "Can't believe we have to break into another motel..."
  1137. 02[23:40] * Mary (chatzilla@ihw-o3hsnt.ip.windstream.net) Quit (Ping timeout: 121 seconds)
1138. 03[23:40] * Mary_ is now known as Mary
1139. [23:41] <@Tommy> "Another motel? Something you'd like to say?" Tommy gives Albert a questioning look as he steps out of the vehicle.
1140. 06[23:41] * @Albert sighs, resting his forehead on the steering wheel. "Am I bringing the shotgun?"
1141. [23:42] <@Keeper> The lodging is a two floored L shaped building with doors running along both floors leading to various single rooms with a separate building that houses the office. It looks like there are 14 rooms, hard to say which they would be in.
1142. [23:42] <@Tommy> "Might be a good idea. I'll see if I can find any idea which room they're in."
1143. 06[23:44] * @Tommy walks past the doors, keeping an eye on the ground and doors to see if they have spots of blood on them or not.
1144. 06[23:44] * @Albert follows after Tommy, a long rectangular box under his arm.
1145. [23:46] <@Keeper> Tommy, engrossed in his search, keeps his head to the ground with focused intensity.
1146. [23:46] <Mary> "Guys, I think I might have found something." Mary Alice wiggles her wrist and points towards the stairs. "Ttthhhatta way."
1147. [23:47] <@Keeper> He edges closer to the alley in the midst of his search.
1148. [23:48] <@Keeper> Suddenly a crowbar swings out from the darkness and narrowly misses Tommy's head, smashing into the brick side of the building. A young man steps out cursing his aim but still poised to strike again.
1149. 06[23:50] * @Albert backs up a bit, caught off guard. He stoops down quickly, trying to get the shotgun free from it's case in time.
1150. [23:52] <@Keeper> The ruffian takes another swing, still hoping to salvage the ambush. It's does no better than the last and hits only air.
1151. 06[23:56] * Mary makes sure her weapon is loaded. She fires, but it misses badly. "Shit. I hope I didn't hit Tommy..."
1152. 06[23:57] * @Tommy pulls out his own revolver after hearing a shot behind him. "Shit, you picked the wrong guy to mug, buddy." He yelps, a lot less cool than he intended as he fires into the man.
  1153. Session Time: Sat Apr 22 00:00:00 2017
1154. [00:00] <@Keeper> The first gunshot clearly scared him, but he has no time to react before he is subsequently shot in the body. He clutches the wound with his free hand and his eyes go wide with shock.
1155. 06[00:00] * @Albert hefts up the shotgun, aiming it at the man. He keeps it trained forward. "Hey! Hey! Enough! Stop!"
1156. [00:03] <@Keeper> It's enough to dissuade him. The young man turns, running on pure adrenaline and tears off down the alley attempting to flee into the night.'
1157. 06[00:06] * @Tommy pants a bit, leaning over onto his knees. "Jesus Christ...fucking muggers..."
1158. 06[00:06] * @Albert watches the presumed mugger running off, he lowers the shotgun. "Whole city is going to hell."
  1159. [00:06] <Mary> "So uh...back to that blood trail."
1160. 06[00:06] * @Albert places the shotgun back in it's box, again hefting it up under his arm.
1161. [00:07] <@Albert> "Lead the way, let's get this over with."
  1162. [00:08] <@Tommy> "Y-yeah...let's..."
1163. 06[00:09] * Mary walks towards the stairs and towards room 13. "Well, I don't know if either of you think number can be lucky...or unlucky, but we're at room 13."
  1164. [00:09] <Mary> *numbers
1165. [00:11] <@Albert> "Let's just make sure we don't hit Beckman." Albert gulps, readying himself at one side of the door.
1166. 06[00:13] * @Tommy gets on the other side, preparing himself.
  1167. 06[00:13] * @Tommy checks the handle.
  1168. [00:13] <@Keeper> It's locked.
1169. 06[00:14] * @Albert takes the lead, crouching down to try and fiddle with the lock, after an awkward minute of silence he stares at the floor, defeated.
1170. [00:16] <Mary> "Who would have guessed that I wouldn't be able to do that?"
1171. 06[00:16] * @Tommy waits for the others to finish, and makes an attempt. He works harder than last time, remembering how he was embarrassed earlier when trying to unlocked that apartment door. By more luck than skill, he manages to do it, using his poker face he used earlier that night to show that he meant to do it all along.
  1172. [00:16] <@Tommy> "Voila."
1173. [00:17] <Mary> "You can pick a lock, but you can't say...? Oh, nevermind. Let's see what's behind door number 13!"
1174. 06[00:17] * @Tommy opens the door slowly, keeping his gun out. "Shhh..."
  1175. [00:17] <@Keeper> A shot rings out.
1176. 06[00:18] * @Albert ducks back a little, preparing to get his shotgun out.
1177. 06[00:20] * Mary with her gun still in hand, Mary asks, "So what are we going to do? This one actually has a good weapon."
  1178. [00:21] <@Tommy> "Shit! Shit!"
1179. [00:22] <@Albert> "I know, I know!" Albert mutters as trembling fingers fidget with the clasp.
1180. [00:22] <@Keeper> It hits the plaster next to the door frame and is quickly followed up by a second.
  1181. [00:25] <@Tommy> "GAH! GOD FUCKING DAMNIT!"
1182. [00:26] <@Keeper> The bullet hits Tommy in the left forearm, burying into the meat painfully but not fatally.
1183. [00:29] <@Keeper> The man shooting, presumably Shaunassay is crouched down on the other side of the bed, using it as cover and taking shots out at you.
1184. 06[00:31] * Mary realizes a mirror is only a few feet from her. She picks up and and tells the others, "Maybe we could use the mirror to see into the room? Worst case scenario is he blows my hand off, but that's a lot better than dying."
1185. [00:32] <@Keeper> She can clearly see Shaunassy on the other side of the bed, using it to stabilize his aim. There's a nightstand beside him with a lamp that's turned off. Behind him is a door to what is almost certainly a bathroom, but the door is closed.
1186. 06[00:40] * @Tommy runs in, jumping down to his stomach on the other side of the bed with an awkward thud. Seeing the man's crouching legs and knees, he fires into them.
1187. 06[00:42] * @Albert removes the shotgun from it's case, oblivious to the gunfight for the moment.
1188. [00:43] <@Keeper> The mobsters hops in surprise, yelping with pain as he does. He flops down on his side and returns fire at Tommy, but his the leg of the bed.
  1189. [00:43] <@Keeper> *hits
1190. 06[00:45] * @Albert shouts "Tommy, clear out!" and prepares to fire.
1191. 06[00:49] * Mary stands close to the door with enough room for Tommy to run out. Mary Alice aims and is at the ready to fire.
1192. 06[00:52] * @Tommy stands up and fires at the man again, the quick action throwing off his aim.
1193. 06[00:54] * @Albert takes on his bravest tone, emulating Patrick's bravado. "Listen up, you asshole! There's three guns on you! Now stand up and drop that FUCKING piece before we tear you apart!"
  1194. [00:54] <@Keeper> There's silence for a beat...
1195. [00:55] <@Keeper> And then the mobster tosses his gun up onto the bed. "Fuck!"
1196. 06[00:55] * @Albert nods to Mary, cautiously stepping into the room, shotgun lowered.
1197. 06[00:55] * @Tommy grabs the gun, backing up and wincing as he uses the muscles in his shot arm. "God damnit..."
1198. 06[00:56] * @Albert immediately drops his tough guy attitude at the sight of Tommy's wound. "You okay?"
1199. [00:56] <@Keeper> Shaunassy stands, also wincing. He has a poorly wrapped wound in his gut that is faintly crimson. "You fucking fucks..."
1200. [00:57] <@Tommy> "Yeah yeah, it just really fucking hurts." He keeps his gun pointed at Shaunassy. "Alright, you cocksucker. Where the fuck is Beckman?"
1201. [00:58] <@Keeper> He nods toward the bathroom. "In there, cuffed in the tub."
1202. [00:58] <@Tommy> "Keep the shotgun on him." He tells Albert before heading over to the bathroom, holstering Shaunassy's revolver in his belt.
1203. 06[00:59] * @Albert holds the shotgun at the ready, training it on Shaunassy.
  1204. [00:59] <@Albert> "You don't look so good, friend. I'm guessing it's a stab wound, right?"
1205. [01:00] <@Keeper> Shaunassy flops onto the bed and reclines against the headboard and letting out a long sigh. "Yeah. Beckman got me good."
1206. [01:00] <@Keeper> "You know, the coppers are going to be following up on these shots."
1207. [01:01] <@Keeper> Tommy opens the door and true to his word, Beckman is restrained in the bathtub, cuffed to the faucet and gagged. His jaw is swollen and there is a serious bruise on his face.
1208. 06[01:02] * @Albert glances at Shaunassy, "I don't suppose we could end this peacefully?"
1209. 06[01:02] * @Tommy ungags his friend. "Aw shit. You alright? You look like hell."
1210. [01:02] <@Tommy> "Albert! Get him to throw the keys in here! Slowly!"
1211. [01:03] <@Keeper> "You got the gun, friend. Your call."
1212. 06[01:03] * @Albert motions gently with the shotgun. "The key, please."
1213. 06[01:03] * @Keeper he digs a key out of his jacket pocket and tosses it on the bed close to Albert.
  1214. [01:03] <@Keeper> *Shaunassy digs
1215. 06[01:04] * @Albert keeps his eyes on Shaunassy and the shotgun at the ready, grasping for the key with his free hand.
1216. 06[01:04] * @Albert tosses the key over to the bathroom.
1217. 06[01:05] * @Tommy grabs the key, unlocking him from his shitty situation in the tub.
1218. 01[01:08] <Beckman> James can barely move. A shiny eye pokes out from the swelling on the side of his face, and the socks balled up on his mouth are wet with blood and spit. Bubbles of blood pop on a regular basis out of his nostril, indicating that he's still breathing.
1219. 01[01:09] <Beckman> He's a little more active now that he's free. He pulls out the sock and takes a few rough breaths.
1220. [01:09] <@Tommy> "Come on, let me help you up."
1221. 06[01:09] * @Albert calls into the bathroom "We good to go?"
1222. [01:09] <@Tommy> "Beckman's in bad shape, fucker worked him over real good, it seems."
1223. 01[01:09] <Beckman> "J... jesus... Really thought I was done for. I thought that log was going to punch me to death."
  1224. [01:10] <@Albert> "He's got a friend coming eventually." Albert adds.
1225. [01:10] <@Tommy> "Right, Beckman, we need to get out of here before the cops show up. You've heard the gunshots, they will too."
1226. 01[01:10] <Beckman> "The knife... the gothic knife... I won't leave wifout it..."
1227. 01[01:11] <Beckman> He looks around, like a frantic search in slow motion.
  1228. [01:11] <Mary> "A knife?"
1229. [01:11] <@Tommy> "The...knife?" Tommy looks at Shaunassy from the bathroom. "Where'd you put it?"
1230. 01[01:12] <Beckman> "The... check the night table..."
1231. 06[01:13] * @Albert motions with the shotgun for some answers. "The knife, man."
1232. [01:14] <@Tommy> "Mary, check the nightstand by the bed."
1233. [01:15] <Mary> "Well, let's see. Let's seeee." *Mary walks towards the nightstand and starts to inspect it.*
1234. [01:20] <Mary> "That's...a very nice blade." *Mary carefully picks up the knife and looks at it intently.*
1235. 06[01:21] * Mary she looks towards Beckman. "I assume this is what you're wanting."
1236. 01[01:23] <Beckman> He grabs it. "Can't reawy sheath thith. Unleth..."
1237. 01[01:24] <Beckman> He looks at Shaunassy on the ground.
  1238. 01[01:24] <Beckman> *bed
  1239. 01[01:24] <Beckman> "You."
1240. 01[01:25] <Beckman> "Know the only thing thith thing doethn't cut through ith a body? Geth thtuck."
  1241. 01[01:25] <Beckman> "Blade ithn't long enough."
1242. [01:26] <@Keeper> "Yeah?" his eyes flicker to Albert as if to say 'Is this guy crazy?'.
1243. [01:26] <@Albert> "He's not in a very good mood. Tommy, can you bring the handcuffs?"
1244. 06[01:27] * @Tommy lets Beckman stand on his own, making sure he doesn't fall over before getting the cuffs.
1245. [01:27] <@Albert> "Give him the cuffs, yeah? Cuff yourself to the bed."
1246. 06[01:29] * Beckman glares at Shaunassy. "You thtay the HELL away from me. From them. From this town."
1247. [01:32] <@Keeper> "Gladly. Once I find Leiter and not a moment before. You think you guys are scary? You're kittens compared to Nucky Johnson."
1248. [01:34] <@Albert> "Put the handcuffs on, please." Albert motions with the gun.
1249. [01:34] <@Keeper> With a deep sigh, Shaunassy cuffs himself. "What happens now?"
  1250. 06[01:35] * @Albert looks over to Beckman expectantly.
1251. 01[01:36] <Beckman> He thinks for a bit, but the kind of thinking reqested of him is presently beyond him.
1252. [01:37] <@Albert> "Let's just go home, man. Call it even? Look at his gut."
1253. 01[01:37] <Beckman> "Well, I used to work on a farm with my father..."
  1254. 06[01:38] * @Albert winces, backing away.
1255. [01:38] <@Albert> "Maybe I'll go start the car while you guys finish up."
1256. 01[01:38] <Beckman> A crazy glimmer flicks in his eyes. Act that way, huh? Who's standing now? Who's laying down now? Who's cuffed now?
1257. 01[01:39] <Beckman> "We had bulls... you need them to do manual labor..."
1258. 06[01:39] * @Tommy backs away from Beckman, not liking were this was going.
  1259. 01[01:39] <Beckman> Leiter? Who gives a shit?
1260. 01[01:39] <Beckman> "But they could get out of control... you don't need that."
1261. 06[01:40] * @Albert exits the room hastily, gathering up his carrying case on the way.
1262. 06[01:40] * @Tommy grabs Mary and pulls her out of the room with him.
  1263. [01:40] <Mary> "I guess we're leaving."
1264. 01[01:41] <Beckman> Who the fuck was this guy anyway? What's the point?
1265. 01[01:41] <Beckman> "Yeah, later, gents and dame.
  1266. 01[01:42] <Beckman> "...hey, you."
1267. [01:42] <@Keeper> "Hey, hey, hold on. I'm cuffed and unarmed here. And the cops are gonna show up any minute."
1268. 01[01:43] <Beckman> He gets closer. "I don't particularly care who you are, who you know. I don't care about them. I care about you."
1269. 01[01:44] <Beckman> "Because I know people. I've killed people. I've killed THINGS that your eyes would leak out of your head if you even were in the room with them. And I killed them all right."
1270. 01[01:45] <Beckman> Beckman gets closer. "Now, this is a one time deal. I don't care if you think I'm a joke who can't pronounth half of hith letterth. That'll heal."
1271. 01[01:46] <Beckman> "What won't heal is what I do to you if I see you again. Or that cockwipe friend of yours."
  1272. 01[01:46] <Beckman> "I'll cut it off."
1273. 06[01:46] * @Keeper props a foot up on the bed and starts to slowly edge backwards "Fine! Fine, whatever you say! Just...just put down the knife. I'll skip town."
  1274. [01:47] <@Keeper> *Shaunassy
1275. 01[01:47] <Beckman> "Now thit there and think about what I meant. Becauth there's a lot of 'it's on your body, and I'm more creative than I let on."
  1276. 06[01:48] * Beckman turns to leave.
1277. 01[01:48] <Beckman> "Fucking prick mething up my faith..."
1278. 01[01:49] <Beckman> The knife glints darkly as he rounds the doorway and leaves.
