- Hegel develops the idea that work is the place of liberation, of the emancipation of humanity. Man only becomes human when he gets recognition from another Man. He wants to prove to the other that the life of need, animal life is nothing and therefore he is willing to risk his life for this recognition. Hegel imagines the meeting of two beings with a self-awareness, a will. He wants to assert himself as a will in the world. Except that each of its self-conscious wishes can be realized as self-consciousness or as free will only if another self-consciousness, another equal freedom in value recognizes it. But this recognition is possible only in the conflict because each of the consciences needs to have in front of it a resistance. Because 'is this resistance that will allow it. To experience as a desire for recognition. As a desire for assertiveness in the submission of the other. For Hegel then commits a fight to death without deaths. That is to say, our two men are ready to do anything to assert their freedom, each depends on the other. It ties in with Hobbes' other nature in which everyone is equal to others and always ready to engage in a war of all against all. The winner, the one whose will is recognized as freedom, the one who has most accepted to risk his life. The other will prefer to the anguish of death abandon the fight that is to say it is more about animal life than its human status. He therefore chooses to submit. The master does not kill the slave because it becomes the permanent reflection of his victory. He needs the submission of the other to constantly reaffirm his freedom. The master forces the slave to work while he benefits from existence. The slave will provide for the needs of the master. The master's preoccupation is war, and he ends up falling into idleness and becomes independent of the slave's know-how, who keeps on working, becomes the one who knows the world, nature, who will know how to master it, who will acquire knowledge about the world that will correspond to a new form of freedom. The product of work by the slave is denied him, it is destined for the master. And so the product of the work becomes autonomous, it is placed outside the slave. This exteriority allows the slave to recognize himself in the fruit of his work. This recognition through the fruit of his work makes him become human.
