"Nessie"

"Nessie", a.k.a. the sea monster:

Vince’s long necked sea monster would not be the first new species to emerge from an ocean that is rapidly evolving to deal with toxic runoff from the war and the ongoing (but slowing) process of global warming but even an experienced zoologist would have to admit that it represents an abnormality in that it lacks a clear “base” species.

In Vince’s experience the creature is amphibious and highly intelligent but not explicitly hostile and craves carrion meat, suggesting that it survives as a scavenger rather than an active predator. This is not to say that it isn’t an intimidating animal: its body is large enough to fill the rear of Vince’s van to capacity and it exudes a powerful tranquilizing mucus from its skin, likely as a defense mechanism. During their first encounter, Vince witnessed the creature move with enough agility to disable a great white shark that was competing with it for some rotten chicken and then display enough power to nearly capsize the New Albion, a fishing vessel.

Vince has not received any additional information about the creature from GEC or scientific sources.
