Being a serial killer is a pretty nasty thing and i'd regard them to be personally more evil than a tin pot dictator, warlord or slave driver
He went out, hunted down and butchered people for pleasure, and knowing most serial killers MO, he very likely exclusively targeted young women

From what I remember hearing on the streams, he didn't target people like that, e.g. going for weak people or people who deserved it. They said he had a moral compass when it came to it, but didn't go into detail about it because it's one of those Vivziepop 'oh it sounds cool so its a thing now' kinds of canon.

The problem with that is that fundamentally ignores the crux of the issue, that Alastor is the one who gets to decide who's "deserving" or not of being murdered, being such a narcissistic piece of shit that you become a self appointed Judge, Jury and Executioner
Viv honestly should go and watch both seasons of Mindhunter if she wants to get a good starting point for what serial killers are really like

Isn't that like the two most viable options if you're proficient at killing and you enjoy it? People who, (in your mind) deserve to die, or people who are too weak to fight back.

I get Alastor might have been a, 'the greater the odds, the greater the glory' type of killer, but then, you're stuck with killing either people of low moral status, like prostitutes or drug dealers or generally unpleasant people, or, people who wouldn't be missed, like vagrants, or randomers off the street.

The problem in the fandom is that they pick and choose aspects of serial killers, usually omitting critical, unsavory details
Ed Kemper on the surface was an articulate, highly intelligent man who had a thing for cop shows
If you saw him walking down the street and struck up a conversation with him, you'd maybe think he's a little eccentric, but ultimately he'd seem to be a pretty nice guy
That is until you realize that he went after young female college students, murdered them, had sex with their corpses and ate pieces of their flesh
He even used on the victims severed heads as a fucking dartboard
