  1. Avenues for aid:
  2. - Steinhardt scholarships/grants focused on underrepresented communities
  3. - Indicate interest in my cover letter
  4. - Research assistantships, graduate program assistant role - "theater and health lab," doing things like data collection, qualitative coding, formatting research (8 hours/week)
  5. - Teaching assistantships - every student does 800 hours. Being in a position of guiding 1st year students.
  6. - One-off opportunities, like being ASM or assistant director to a project
  7. - Some students do the program half-time so they can also have a job
  8. - If she was a student trying the program now, she would look for a job a NYU. Really take the program "in a part time way," but some of the cost would be covered
  9. - Wasserman Center (work study center) - Work study for students. No tuition benefits, but it's a job
  10. - Check out various councils for the arts in Minnesota, funding bodies
  11.
  12. Concordia:
  13. - "All the programs are excellent," "you can't go wrong with any of them"
  14. - Transitions happening in some programs
  15. - Concordia "a real mix of both British and American methods"
  16. - Focus on therapeutic theater for neurodiverse people, opportunities to work with human center of development
  17. - Focus on the arts and health, social justice (as does NYU)
  18. - There's not any one thing that differentiates them. Nisha was in the 2nd-3rd cohort when there were "a lot of bugs to get worked out," but she had a positive experience
  19. - NYU once really specialized in role methods, but Nisha is guiding it towards trauma-informed work
  20.
  21. Check what MN requires in terms of the credit track. Many states won't check or care. NYU offers 60 credit because some states require 60 and require specific focuses. Some states are really organized around that. If they specify it, you want to check on it. If there's no limit on the credits you want to take on a license. You could finish your master's and then take any continuing education courses you want.
  22.
  23. "all of us engage in continuing education"
  24.
  25. There are electives focusing on LGBT youth. Hetrick Martin Institute is an internship site. There's a drama therapist on staff! Lizzie McAdam
  26.
  27. Most important quality in a successful applicant:
  28. - "Self-awareness to know where your limits are, how to care for one's self in such a way as to balance out the demand of graduate programs, and readiness for this kind of accommodation."
  29. - It's more helpful to have a support system in place and go-to strategies about finding center. Social networks, physical practices, etc.
  30. - The program is demanding academically and personally. You can't know about mental health and the human condition without managing your own.
  31. - Information they receive on paper, group audition, one-on-one interview
