1. Featured In: Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean
2.
3. Name: Kalas
4.
5. Age: 21 (18-19 in his game, and when starting)
6.
7. Gender: Male
8.
9. Alignment: Chaotic Good
10.
11. Personality:
12. "In this world, there are things that people mustn't touch... Who cares!?"
13.
14. At first, Kalas was what you would call a colossal jerk, only out for himself and helping others just because it coincided with his interests. However, after the events of his game, he has become more well-meaning and genuinely heroic. Though still a jerk and rebellious to an extent, his previous 'not my problem' attitude has changed to one who's a lot more willing to help those in need, and absolutely refuses to let anyone sacrifice themselves for the greater good (though that isn't to say he wouldn't, to his admitted hypocrisy). This gives him more of a reckless attitude than before, though that's not to say he's an idiot. When his impulsive behavior isn't getting in the way of common sense, he can be very intelligent and resourceful, often surprising those who'd think otherwise. In spite of the change, however, he still has his thief-like tendencies and retains his bitter sarcasm, mostly when his annoyances get the better of him.
15.
16. However, because of this change of personality, Kalas has an irrational hatred for those who remind him of how he was. This includes those who are completely insensitive to others needs, those who would betray their friends for power or other selfish reasons, or those who would give up their freedom to become a slave. To any of these, at his worst, he can be very petty and admittedly hypocritical, sometimes even slipping back into his old ways. However, this is all set aside when it comes to those who are even worse than he is, especially if they hurt those that he cares deeply for. To this, he is extremely vengeful, going out of his way to chase that someone to the ends of the skies just to exact that revenge upon them.
17.
18. Even with all of this, those who know Kalas really well (which, at the moment, is only a select few from his world, Xelha most importantly) can see him for who he really is: a broken and vulnerable young man who's afraid of being alone. Having lost his only family; his grandfather/creator Georg and his little brother Fee; and almost losing Xelha at one point, this fear is justified, though can put him on an overprotective streak. He's less likely to close himself off from befriending others, but he still has a tendency to guard himself out of that fear. At his most worst, he's extremely suicidal, often on the verge of survivor's guilt when it comes to those that have died instead of him, even moreso that he feels undeserving of any sort of redemption after his betrayal. However, should one come to befriend him in any way, Kalas will go out of his way to protect them, sometimes putting on a big brother instinct to those that are younger (even if they annoy the hell out of him).
19.
20. Powers
21.
22. In the world of Baten Kaitos, almost everyone once had Wings of the Heart, spiritual wings that could be projected to reflect one's soul. After the islands' return to the Earth, and the return of the lost Ocean, everyone's wings had been given up for good. However, after his Awakening, Kalas has been granted back his own single Wing of the Heart, along with an enhancement of his heart's power to be able to use it for a longer time than before. With the support of his winglet, this allows him a form of flight, and provides balance whenever in battle. However, even with their enhanced power, the use of his wings are still limited in that they're not strong enough to carry him, or slow his descent, in areas too high. Also, should he have his wings out for too long, he will grow weary (described as losing his heart's resolve) and will take some time to recover before he can use them again. Because of this, Kalas tends to be more conservative of his wings' power, using them when he finds need to.
23.
24. Though not really a power per se, Kalas has an extraordinary amount of willpower, due to his origin of a being created out of pure Magnus energy. Though he can fall under control depending on the circumstances, he will fight to break out, even at the cost of his own health. Due to being an artificial human, he gives off an aura different from other humans, though it can only be sensed by those who are magically gifted (like Xelha, Queen Corellia, and the witches of Wazn have been able to). He might even come off as soulless to those who can sense it, due to having no perceivable Magnus within him. However, that's not to say that he is; his soul is just different, much like a creature with blue blood instead of red.
25.
26. In part with bonding with the same Guardian Spirit, Kalas shares a mindlink with Xelha, one that she formed herself. The link allows the two to feel what the other feels, share their dreams, and sense each other out if they're anywhere close by. Also, similar to a Guardian Spirit, Xelha can lend her power to Kalas should the need arise, though this can wear her out easily. However, this also allows her to feel Kalas' pain, depending on how badly harmed he is. As well, unless she sees it coming beforehand, spells that can put Kalas to sleep will also pass on to her.
27.
28. Kalas has a unique set of special attacks that make use of his sword (i.e. swinging it so hard it creates a whirlwind or even cutting through existence). These abilities, like everything else in the world of Baten Kaitos, come in the form of Magnus cards for him to use, and they all come in each of the six elements of his world, though he leans more towards wind. Due to the removal of the bond with his Guardian Spirit, they had all once been removed from his deck, but after several years as an Interference, he has regained each and every one of them. However, he still needs to practice with some of the higher level ones, due to not being in use for a long while. That said, his abilities run on his world's form of Magic called Magnus Power, which builds up the more he attacks. Some of his abilities could only be used at maximum MP (level 5), and even moreso when he goes into an MP Burst, allowing him to use any of his skills without the cost of MP. When exiting out of the Burst, however, his MP is reduced back to nothing; due to how much energy is used up doing this, this is more or less a last resort.
29.
30. - Blue Storm: Forms a small whirlwind from below the enemy with a slash of his sword. (returned to him by Merlin in Radiant Garden. MP level: 1)
31.
32. - Shadow Wings: Slicing a dimensional rift open, a murder of spiritual ravens fly through and swarm the enemy. (regained after defeating his personal monster, Corvus, in Silent Hill. MP level: 2)
33.
34. - Energy Wave: Stabbing his sword into the ground, a plunging wind blow strikes the enemy from below. (found after obtaining the Moonglade lances. MP level: 3)
35.
36. - Flash Explosion: Similar to Energy Wave, except a blast of fire erupts below the enemy. (found in the Temen-Ni-Gru of Devil May Cry 3. MP level: 3)
37.
38. - Water Blade: Exactly what it sounds like; with a slash of his water-coated sword, Kalas sends a blade of water at the enemy. (found in a chest in Atlantica. MP level: 3)
39.
40. - Dream Blade: Many illusory swords are formed from the earth, which then impale the enemy all at once. (regained from traversing through Wonderland. MP level: 4)
41.
42. - Fangs of Light: With light energy imbued in his sword, Kalas spirals upwards across the enemy. (found on the way to Helm's Deep. MP level: 4)
43.
44. - Chaotic Illusion: Swings illusory slices, confusing the enemy as he tears through their defenses. (regained after discovering his past in Castle Oblivion. MP level: 5)
45.
46. - Wind Guardian (aka Lord of the Wind): What's considered his ultimate attack; surrounded by wind energy, Kalas essentially becomes a human bullet, launching himself at high speeds, sword first, at the enemy. (regained during the fight against Vulture in Spider Man: Web of Shadows. MP level: 5)

49.
50. Dragoon Storm: A Limit Break for Moonglade; this occurs when Kalas' health has reached a critical point. This comes in two forms: a Normal Limit and a Final Limit. In the Normal Limit, the lances swirl around him in powerful bursts of wind; enemies that are hit take wind damage and are pushed away from Kalas. In the Final Limit, Kalas instead launches himself into the air and comes down with a mighty blow onto the enemy, much like the Dragoons of the Final Fantasy series.
51.
52. After the acquisition of his Keyblade, Call of the Divine, Kalas has also acquired the abilities of a Keyblade Wielder. He is able to perform Reaction Commands with his quick reflexes; though he still needs to practice with the more complex ones; and can perform basic abilities like Strike Raid, Sliding Dash, Blitz, and Aerial Sweep. He could also amplify his special attacks into the Key, the Magnus charm changing its picture when he does so. Its special properties, however, are the ability to use Spirit Attacks without a Guardian Spirit, due to the Keyblade's properties of working similar to one. Like a Spirit, the effectiveness of these depend on the strength of Kalas' connection with the Keyblade. However, they can only be used when he's at maximum MP level.
53.
54. - Shining Seraph: Summons a light from the heavens, bringing it down on the enemy.
55.
56. - Demons of Darkness: A dark pool forms under the enemy, engulfing them and then striking them with a final bolt.
57.
58. - Hellfire: Summons a raging inferno around the enemy, dealing major fire damage.
59.
60. - Sacred Spring: Bubbles engulf the enemy and burst on impact, searing them with their purifying waters.
61.
62. - Lingering Time: A pentagram appears around the enemy and suspends time within, dealing major damage once time begins flowing again.
63.
64. - Distorting Wind: Powerful winds engulf the enemy, tearing apart their defenses.
65.
66. Abilities:
67.
68. Kalas is an exceptional swordsman, and can dual-wield to an extent, though it's mostly limited to blocking with the dagger and attacking with the sword. Though high in offense, he is also very quick due to his affinity to wind, and has a very strong endurance to damage thanks to his immense willpower. This makes him a very capable fighter in battle.
69.
70. Thanks to being raised by an engineer, he has some knowledge on pieces of technology and can be crafty with tools, usually when it comes to trap-making. However, this isn't to the master level of his grandfather, who had a reason to be. For instance, he has no idea how to repair his winglet if it's ever damaged, nor does he even know how it functions.
71.
72. Lastly, in spite of an occasional lack of foresight, Kalas can form a long-standing plan. With his experience as a spy, he can be very deceitful and find ways to keep the suspicion off of him. This can fall apart easily, however, if people do start to suspect him in spite of his attempts, to which he'll fall back to using brute force.
73.
74. Appearance: Kalas, with wings
75.
76. Weapons:
77.
78. A sword and reverse blade dagger that he wields simultaneously, as his default weapons.
79.
80. Moonglade: A set of lances once wielded by the Organization XIII member Xaldin, Kalas purchased these from the Moogle in Twilight Town via the Skill Gear, and won in a mental battle against the shadowed Xaldin. These are mostly used as a fall-back, and tend to be used against flying enemies. Due to its name, it also symbolizes Kalas and Xelha's connection with each other.
81.
82. Call of the Divine: After some time of wielding an inactive Oblivion Keyblade, Kalas now wields an original Keyblade based on his personality, thanks to the Inheritance Ceremony performed by the spirit of the Oblivion through Kairi. Mostly silver in color, the guard holds the design of his wings; right side is the grey swan wing while the left is the winglet; and the ends are white, the hilt a dark teal with wind blast designs on either edge. The shaft is separated into two bars with breaking ocean waves mixed in with a dark red energy design making up the center, the bars having jagged edges and wind blast designs towards the end. The teeth are four large metal feathers tipped with light-blue tinged, almost transparent blades, much like those on his winglet. Lastly, the Keychain is thin and silver, the charm that of a Magnus card that's generally blank, but the picture on the card changing when certain skills are in use. It appears in a burst of cherry blossoms, akin to the signs of a bond with a Guardian Spirit. Though he is acquisited with this Keyblade, Kalas only uses it as a last resort, in the case he is faced with something extremely powerful. The reason for this is because he considers his use of the Keyblade as a very important obligation, and thus feels he should only use it when he absolutely needs to.
83.
84. Equipment:
85.
86. Winglet: Due to having one wing, Kalas wears a mechanical wing for support, hand-made by his grandfather/creator Georg. Aside from the strong endurance, the winglet is modified with a defense mechanism that, whenever in a great deal of danger, emits an electrical barrier around Kalas, which can then be sent out to stun the foe (or Kalas if the enemy attacks first).
87.
88. Magnus: In the world of Baten Kaitos, everything runs on a type of energy called Magna Essence. These cards are meant to trap the essence of certain items and store them within for later use. Kalas carries his own set of Magnus, separated by different types (not counting the abilities listed above).
89.
90. - Offensive: These come in the form of swords for Kalas to use, and occasionally small items for him to throw at the enemy. Similar to attack cards in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, these don't necessarily change his weapons, but rather enhances their use; i.e. using a type of fire weapon lights his sword on fire, an ice weapon coats it with ice, etc.
91.
92. - Defensive: Magnus used for defense come in the form of helms, armors, and shields for Kalas. He is able to use light to heavy defensive items, but nothing massive. Like the weapon Magnus, these are more to enhance his guarding and resist certain elements and status effects, depending on the attacks used. His offensive Magnus could also be used for defense in some cases.
93.
94. - Equipment: Equipment Magnus are more character-specific Magnus that can be equipped, one at a time, to enhance their parameters, like attack, defense, health, and resistance to certain status effects. For Kalas, these come in the form of belt buckles; at the moment, he wears the Platinum Buckle, though he has others for use.
95.
96. - Healing: Healing Magnus come in the form of various foods; not for eating, but, again, using their essence to restore damage taken, temporarily raise one's stats, and/or cure certain status effects. Sometimes, these can rot and become attack cards, but they could also change to become more effective, even moreso if they're combined with other Magnus to make a new one. Though Kalas will use the occasional Potion and whatnot, he holds onto these for convenience.
97.
98. - Blank: As the name states, these are empty Magnus cards that Kalas carries in the case he may need to collect something. Although Magna Essence only exists in his world, he can still use these to store items from other worlds, like normal foods, plants, and other small objects.
99.
100. Camera: Kalas usually carries a camera on his person, taking pictures of monsters for some quick cash. After the events at New Mombasa, it's been given an upgrade by Greg to work like the Genesis, the pictures now giving stats and tactical information to aid himself and allies better in combat.
101.
102. Evening wear: A formal suit that Kalas received after a mission to aid one of the Normandy crew members, Kasumi Goto. At his insistence, the suit is also included with an equally formal cape for him. This is reserved for certain missions (those similar to the heist that he obtained this in) and, whenever he could, fancy dates with Xelha; other than that, he rarely wears it, finding it 'too stuffy.'
103.
104. Blitz: A whip that Kalas obtained after his trip to Skyloft, created by the junk shop man, Gondo, as a copy of Link's own whip. The difference is that the handle-guard is silver and the color fades from blue to teal instead. Blitz, as Kalas has named it, functions like the whip it's based off of, but with added wind elements incorporated by his elemental Magnus. Instead of a weapon, it's mostly used to collect items and attach itself to many things, helping him reach areas in the case his wings wouldn't take him, or if he wears out their use. In the case it's used in combat, it's mostly to stun weaker enemies, sometimes knocking them back with the wind powers.
105.
106. Morag Tong Chitin armor: A light set of armor worn by Morag Tong members of Solstheim, Kalas received this from Azumi during his visit in Skyrim, reserved for missions for the Crimson Dawn. At the moment, he's looking to alter its appearance, not really liking its current look.
107.
108. Earth Sphere: Until he returns to his home world for good, Kalas carries Xelha's pendant with him. With her magic tampering with it, this allows the two to telepathically communicate, something that their mindlink is unable to do. This also acts as a sort of tracker for the Ice Queen, allowing her to keep a watch on the one-winged hero and keep him in check should she need to (which is a lot more often than she'd like). Though it can also act as a Keychain for the Keyblade, Kalas prefers not to use it that way. (what it looks like)
109.
110. Awareness: Yes, having received this information by Melodia before he encountered Inteferences proper.
111.
112. History:
113.
114. Kalas' origins are that of an artificial human, created from Magnus by the inventor Georg and his friend Dr. Larikush. Their original intent in discovering the mysterious technologies within the Magnus was to trap a living being's Magna Essence within the card, something that was deemed impossible. When that turned out a failure, in part with an influence in Georg that had passed on to him through birth; his mother being tainted by the destructive End Magnus; they instead reversed their experiment: working to create life from within a Magnus. Although their intent was simply to create any life-form, Emperor Geldoblame, upon discovering this experiment, commissioned for them to produce the perfect being, the 'Divine Child', for his own selfish ambitions. After several months, the experiment was finally complete; Georg and Larikush had successfully created a life-form born from a Magnus. Kalas was the result of that experiment.
115.
116. However, though initially a success in that regard, Kalas was born with the common flaws held within human beings, and came out with only one Wing of the Heart; such a deformity was presumed to be a sign of a tainted soul. Disgusted, Geldoblame deemed him a failure for being imperfect, and gave him the name 'Kalas'; meaning 'raven' in a forgotten language; out of a paranoid assumption that he was an ill omen of things to come. The experiment was done all over again, taking several years to perfect and create the Divine Child that Geldoblame wanted. After those years, another life was created: Fee, the perfect being that the Emperor had asked for. Despite the success, over the years, Georg had developed a parental bond with both of his creations, even more than with his own son, Giacomo. When the Emperor gave the order for the scientists to dispose of Kalas and hand over Fee for his own purposes, the inventor had had enough. Georg and Larikush faked their deaths in a lab fire and fled the Empire, taking their two creations with them. Larikush had gone to Sadal Suud, acting as a doctor in a small farming village, while Georg had taken Kalas and Fee with him to Mira, an island that occasionally faded into other dimensions. Because of the trauma caused by the fire, both Kalas and Fee had lost all memory of their time in the Empire, and so were raised under the illusion that Georg was their biological grandfather. The only thing that Kalas could remember was his name, refusing to change it out of a hatred for his existence that he couldn't let go of.
117.
118. From then on, Kalas grew up in the city of Balancoire, the capital of Mira, along with his perceived grandfather and little brother. Outside of his family, he only had two friends: Trill, a girl who grew up to be a baker-in-training, and a young man who grew up to work at a local shop. Otherwise, he was ostracized and bullied by most of Balancoire's residents for his one wing. As such, he became particularly close with his family, his grandfather making a winglet for him to support his single wing, and Kalas promising his little brother that he would help him search for the fabled lost Ocean and the Great Whale one day. However, this idyllic life would not last. Two years prior to the main story, they had been found and attacked by Giacomo, Georg's real son and an officer of the Imperial army, and his subordinate Ayme, burning their house to the ground. Georg died in the fire while Kalas and Fee were both shot and mortally wounded by Ayme. The brothers had managed to escape to the dark forests of the Spirit Shrine, Nekton, but only until Fee had collapsed from his wounds. His final words to a tearful Kalas was a solemn apology that he couldn't keep their promise, and a dying request for him to find the Ocean and the Whale for him before he died in Kalas' arms. Despaired, Kalas had collapsed next, unable to go on with the loss of the family he deeply cared for.
119.
120. However, just as he died from his wounds, by the will of Fee, the Divine Child, his soul of pure Magna Essence was infused into Kalas' being to save him. Revived, Kalas awoke, the memory of his brief death psychologically repressed in the back of his mind. All he remembered were the deaths of his grandfather and little brother, and the man who caused it all. Bereaved and enraged, Kalas swore revenge on that man, that Giacomo, for his murdered family. Right after, he was found by Melodia, the duchess of Mira, who had sensed his anger, as well as a deeper desire for power. She offered to help him obtain the vengeance he sought, as well as two perfect wings that he truly longed for, the boy hating his one-winged self, in exchange for his hand in resurrecting the evil god, Malpercio, from the five End Magnus. Broken and with no one else to help him, Kalas accepted. Melodia led him further into Nekton after the alliance was made, where they were found by one of the many Spirits that resided. With Melodia's help, Kalas had bonded with the Spirit; Daimon, one that had been bonded before, but returned to the shrine when her Spiriter had been killed; who lent her powers to him as a Guardian Spirit. Thus began Kalas' quest for vengeance and power.
121.
122. For the next two years, Kalas would continue working for Melodia and hunting down Giacomo across the various islands in the sky, never returning to Mira since Georg and Fee's deaths. At one point during those two years, Melodia had informed Kalas of Interferences; people from other worlds outside of their own, including a 'Real World', wandering the worlds in order to 'change the events'; as well as the existence of their world being a video game-turned-reality, warning him in the case these Interferences visit their world and try to disrupt their plans. At another point during that time, Daimon had come to vehemently disagree with Kalas and Melodia's plans to revive Malpercio, refusing to lend anymore of her power to her Spiriter. Knowing that the Guardian Spirit had done the same thing with her previous Spiriter, her defiance had forced Melodia, at Kalas' request, to wipe her memory of the two years she had spent with Kalas, in order to keep her working for them without knowing their true plans. Meeting in Moonguile Forest in Sadal Suud for this, Melodia placed the spell, knocking Kalas unconscious so that he would claim accidental amnesia as the cause of Daimon's lost memories. However, unbeknownst to them, Xelha, a mysterious young woman who had fled from the Empire, had witnessed their exchange from the shadows...
123.
124. From there was where the main story began, Kalas waking up in the farming hamlet of Cebalrai, having been brought back to health by Dr. Larikush (who he doesn't remember). During his visit in the village, he had met Xelha, who behaved as if she had never seen him before, before she left with her two allies to the Moonguile Forest in search for its ancient ruins. Deciding to explore the forest himself, he came across the young woman once more, in danger from a monster that killed her friends. Although he saved her, his insensitivity to her dead allies and his outright admitting that he didn't intend to rescue her didn't lead to a good first impression. However, the two still joined up together to explore further into the forest, uncovering the End Magnus sealed within the ruins with the help of a magic pendant that Xelha held. The minute they had done so, however, they were apprehended by Giacomo, who had been seeking out the End Magnus under orders by Emperor Geldoblame. The Imperial soldiers led by him captured Xelha, the pendant she held having been stolen from the Emperor, and Kalas was knocked out before he could stop them. Once he awoke, Kalas chased after the soldiers to the city of Pherkad, with the intent to hunt down the man he had sought out for two years. Although he had saved Xelha yet again, it was again out of coincidence (though he did express some concern for her this time). However, Giacomo escaped before Kalas could exact his revenge, leaving the two to retreat as they were chased by the soldiers. Once they escaped, Xelha explained the quest she had set herself on, that she was trying to uncover the End Magnus before Geldoblame could get his hands on them, with the intent to stop him before he unleashed the powers of Malpercio onto the world. When she asked for Kalas and Daimon's aid in her quest, however, Kalas refused, telling her that all he wanted was to kill Giacomo, not go against the whole Empire. However, the pair still decided to travel together, so long as they were headed in the same direction.
125.
126. As the two heroes and the Spirit continued forward in their adventure, their party of two grew into a group of six, joined by Gibari, a fisherman and former knight from Diadem; Lyude, an Imperial Ambassador who had turned against the Empire; Savyna, a bounty hunter and former mercenary that resided in Anuenue; and the Great Mizuti, a Child of the Earth. Over the course of the journey, Kalas had slowly bonded with his companions, but remained adamant that his only motive was revenge, only sticking around because it coincided with his interests. He had also begun to suspect Xelha after she claimed they had first met in Moonguile Forest, when they had met in Cebalrai before that, a slip of the tongue that hinted there was more to her than what she was letting on. It was during their venture into Mira, Kalas returning to his home after so long, that the group had first encountered Interferences; the Cruxis angel Gregory Zivaku, the demigoddess Kynthia Usagi, the Keyblade Wielder Sora, and the Princess of Heart Kairi; during the time their one End Magnus that didn't fall into the Empire's hands had gone "missing." Though initially disliking them, Greg and Kyn mostly (which resulted in a punch to the face by the latter after his insults), he had showcased his knowledge on Interferences when he had asked them about the missing End Magnus, claiming his Enlightenment was from Daimon (who did, in fact, know this, but never expected Kalas to know so suddenly).
127.
128. Eventually, their quest had taken them to the Alfard Empire to retrieve the final End Magnus before the Emperor did. There, Kalas had finally faced against Giacomo and his two subordinates, Ayme and Folon, on the Imperial ship, the Goldoba. Though the party had won, Giacomo, after revealing that Georg was his father, had set the ship to self-destruct, bringing the group to hastily escape as the ship crash-landed, the fate of their enemies uncertain. Though Kalas felt that he had finally exacted his revenge (a feeling that turned out to be very sour, especially after the revelation), there was one more matter to take care of. Heading into the Lava Caves, where the last End Magnus was sealed, they found that they were too late. Emperor Geldoblame had already obtained it, all five of the End Magnus now in his possession. However, after unleashing their powers and bringing the dark castle, Cor Hydrae, into existence, he had been transformed into a grotesque monster, forcing the heroes to fight him off. It was after he was defeated, his monstrous form shot down into the lava by his own troops, that Melodia and Kalas had revealed themselves to be the real masterminds behind the plot to resurrect Malpercio. Kalas had explained his actions, his wiping away Daimon's memories when she argued against their plans and his slipping their "missing" End Magnus to Melodia. In spite of the revenge he had exacted, there was still the one last part of the deal that he had been promised. Rejecting the Guardian Spirit from his being, Melodia had bestowed the power of the End Magnus onto him. Like she had promised, he was granted a second wing, a full pair of glittering white wings like he had always desired. However, in turn, he had become corrupted by the dark powers, slowly becoming a mindless slave of the evil god.
129.
130. However, not long after Kalas' former companions had been imprisoned by the Empire, now under Melodia's control, Daimon had instead bonded with Xelha, the young woman managing to escape with the help of the Spirit and going on to rescue the rest of her friends. In the meantime, the villains had waited for the heroes' eventual arrival, their escape and returning to attempt to thwart their plans only factoring into Malpercio's revival. It was during then that two more Interferences would arrive: the siblings Audrey Jones and Stephan Shepherds. To their luck, despite the two being from the Real World, they had no idea what game they had dropped into, though the girl vaguely recognized it. To this, Melodia had given them a task: to make sure that their 'friends' arrive safe and sound, giving no explanation to why. In further prompting, she had also promised them the same gift that she had given Kalas; although the boy did not seem to care, the girl had been very much tempted by the idea of having wings of her own. However, only Kalas knew that it was a lie, just an attempt to keep the Interferences from 'interfering' with their plans. Before they had set off, they were allowed to stay the night, allowing the angel-winged villain to bear witness to two things. The first was Audrey being accosted by Melodia's second right-hand man, a commander of the Imperial army named Fadroh, to which Kalas had stepped in to make sure the girl would not turn on them for that. The next was Melodia speaking with Stephan, or rather, a dark, evil presence that lingered within the boy. Kalas thought nothing of this, unaware that the being would soon come to haunt him in the future.
131.
132. Eventually, with the Interferences' help, Kalas' former friends had arrived, not only to stop the resurrection of Malpercio, but also to rescue the former hero, even though he told them otherwise. A fight broke out between the heroes, the Interferences, and the corrupt boy, long enough for the final part of the plan to be set in motion. From the five heroes, their power had been drawn into the five End Magnus, their bond of trust being the last thing needed to bring the evil god into existence. Not even the Interferences could try to stop it, the dark powers keeping them at bay. In a last attempt, even as her power was being drained away, Xelha had pulled out the Ocean Mirror, one of three ancient artifacts used to stop Malpercio, and turned it on Kalas out of a misguided hope that it would free him of the corruption placed on him. However, it instead burned him nearly to death, forcing the young woman to give up as Melodia destroyed the mirror, destroying any chance of hope. With the strength of the heroes drained away and gathered within the End Magnus, the Interferences completely unable to intervene, everything had gone just as planned. The powers of the End Magnus fused together, the severed parts of the five dead gods sealed within now coming together. After a millennium of confinement and suffering, Malpercio, the cursed god of destruction, had finally been reborn...
133.
134. However, as it turned out, not all hope was lost. Despite the deadly burning, the powers of the Ocean Mirror did, in fact, bring Kalas back to his senses, long enough for him to realize the severity of his selfish actions. Even after he was corrupted once more, he broke out just before he could kill his friends. By the force of his own will, fueled further by Xelha's memory, Kalas had torn the left wing right out of its socket, severing Malpercio's influence for good and restoring him back to his one-winged self. With a new resolve, he turned against the corrupt girl that he had once worked for and swore to drive Malpercio and his forces back into the dark depths, cementing his role as a hero from thereon.
135.
136. However, not long after this, Melodia and Malpercio had retreated to the Cor Hydrae castle to further carry out their plans. Kalas, due to the overexertion and severity of his wounds, had fallen unconscious, the last traces of darkness plunging him into a nightmare, flashbacks of the deaths of his grandfather and little brother taking over him. However, he had been saved by Audrey with her Dream-based magic, her words in reminding him of the promise he made with Fee further influencing his decision to return to the side of good, filled with a deep guilt and regret for his betrayal. Awakening to find his former companions beside him, Kalas, on the verge of tears, begged forgiveness from his friends and to allow him to help stop Melodia and Malpercio, in order to make up for the damage he had wrought. To his surprise, they accepted him back without question, Daimon even forgiving him and bonding back with him in spite of his rejection. Despite his guilt making him feel undeserving of any redemption, Kalas was back to being a hero, this time by his own accord. His change of heart was exhibited when, during Malpercio's attack on Mizuti's home land, he had refused to leave the inhabitants and Mizuti's parents to die for the sake of the heroes, instead fighting back against the evil god. Although it cost them the last of the ancient artifacts that could have helped against the dark forces, the heroes went on to look for another way to stopping Melodia and Malpercio. It was also during this time that, with the Interferences sticking around for the rest of the journey, Audrey had begun conversing with him frequently, the one-winged hero taking notice of her taking a liking to him despite his growing feelings for Xelha. Nonetheless, he said nothing about this and allowed himself to befriend the girl, finding several similarities between them (such as the constant bullying for being different from everyone else).
137.
138. Before they could decide on a plan of attack, Kalas had received a letter from Dr. Larikush, summoning him back to Cebalrai in Sadal Suud. There, Larikush had revealed Kalas' origins of being an artificially created human, crafted by Georg. He also told him of something that Georg left behind for him, in an old cabin on the Celestial Alps. Heading there with his friends, they were met with an unexpected surprise. Giacomo and his two allies had turned up, having survived the destruction of the Goldoba. As the heroes fought the Chaotic Trio once more, Kalas began to remember the one memory that he had repressed: that he had died along with Fee, only for the last of his brother's soul to infuse into him and save him. Before Giacomo could finish him off, Kalas was protected by a defense mechanism within his winglet, just after it was destroyed. Following this, he had discovered exactly what his grandfather/creator had left behind for him: a second, more durable winglet, created to aid him in the journey that he would undergo. His resolve restored to this, Kalas had defeated Giacomo for a final time. As the former Imperial officer lay dying, his final words to the one-winged hero was a last request to stop Melodia and Malpercio, and for Ayme and Folon to aid the heroes from thereon. Kalas silently promised him that he would stop them, allowing himself to finally let go of his hatred for the man who, as he realized, did not voluntarily bring about the deaths of his family.
139.
140. Following this, as Kalas aided his friends in their personal quests, he began to realize the true reason why he was created, Fee's soul saving him and Georg leaving behind that second winglet factoring into this realization. Besides a mere experiment, Georg, by the influence of the End Magnus (a fact that had been revealed to him by Giacomo), had created a being that would counter Malpercio's dark powers, one that would hold a 'Magnus of Life' within them against the destructive nature of the End Magnus. Despite Malpercio's supposed aim for destruction, there was another side to the ancient god that had influenced this, a side that wanted to be put to rest after suffering for so long. Kalas, and Fee to an extent, were the answers to that prayer, in contrast to Melodia's curse in bringing death and destruction to the world. With this, the heroes and Interferences were ready to stop Malpercio once and for all, using the power of the five Nations (including the Empire) to break through the dark barrier surrounding Cor Hydrae. Though Melodia, after discovering that she had died and was revived by the influence of the End Magnus, fused with Malpercio in a last fit of insanity, Kalas and his friends were protected by Fee's soul, the Magnus of Life reacting within the hero. With the help of the Divine Child, the heroes had defeated Malpercio, Kalas rescuing a redeemed Melodia from within. With her help, along with Daimon's power, they were able to put an end to Malpercio's suffering and bring him to rest, this time for good. As they did so, they caught a glimpse of the five souls who had made up the cursed being, feeling their pain and sorrow before it was finally over. With the last of the five sibling gods' power, the floating islands had returned to the Earth, the taint that covered it from the ancient War of the Gods finally cleansed after so long. The world had been saved.
141.
142. However, one last sacrifice had to be made. Following her to the Moonguile Forest, where they had indeed first met, Kalas had discovered Xelha's true identity. As the Ice Queen of Wazn, Xelha revealed that the lost Ocean, what he had promised Fee to search for, had been sealed within her all this time. With the islands' return to the Earth, as the last of the Ice Queens, it was time for her to release the Ocean back into the world; due to their bonding with the same Guardian Spirit, she needed Kalas and Daimon's help to do it. Having fallen for her, however, Kalas initially refused to carry out the final ritual, in fear that he would lose her like his family. But, with Xelha's pleading, her promise that she would always be with him, and Daimon's reassurance, they completed the last prayer for the Ocean to return. However, just before it could, Geldoblame, fused with the Earth thanks to what little of the dark forces' power that was left, had suddenly shown up, about to swallow the two whole in revenge. With Daimon's help, using a final Spirit Attack from her strengthened bond with her Spiriter, they had managed to defeat him one last time. It was right after that, however, that Xelha had collapsed into Kalas' arms, the Ocean ready to return to the Earth. As she lay dying in his arms, she confessed to Kalas that she had a dream about him, crying and holding someone close in a dark forest, and that dream was what actually drove her to set out on her journey. Her final words to the despaired hero was a confession of love to him before she was finally gone. Twice-bereaved and heartbroken, Kalas watched in tears as her body vanished into a salty rain that restored the lost Ocean, the Wings of the Heart within everyone in the world fading away, and even the Great Whale returning. Just as he had promised Fee, he had found the Ocean and its Whale. But, in turn, he had lost the one woman he had come to care for, the one person who had saved him from the darkness and could truly understand him.
143.
144. Though despaired, Kalas had gotten his act together long enough for him to say goodbye to Daimon, their journey coming to an end. Returning to the Nekton Shrine where it all began, Kalas, with his friends gathering together with him, had thanked the Guardian Spirit for all of her help and, of her accord this time, separated her from his being. However, just before the Spirit would fade from the world, her purpose finally done where it hadn't been before, Xelha's pendant had been returned to Kalas, her voice heard within. A rush of water had suddenly flowed out of the pendant, and from the following burst, Xelha had reappeared, having been revived by the Great Whale. Elated, the two heroes tearfully embraced in their reunion, before they, and their companions, said their final goodbyes to the Guardian Spirit as she finally faded from the world, leaving behind only faint traces within Kalas and Xelha's hearts. With everything said and done, they then said their goodbyes to the Interferences who aided them. Though Kalas had turned down Audrey's crush on him, they agreed to just being very good friends with each other, the Dream Mage genuinely happy for him and Xelha being together. With a final request from Kalas to send his personal apologies to the four Interferences who had been on their world before them, as well as for the two to come back and visit whenever they can, the sibling Interferences had left the world, now ensuring a new era of peace on their restored Earth.
145.
146. However, despite their best efforts, life in the restored world wasn't as easy as it seemed. Though their traveling companions had adjusted to their new lives, Kalas and Xelha had struggled with theirs, the latter unsure of whether or not she wanted to continue leading her home land and the former finding no place to return to with their journey done. Their starting relationship was even beginning to falter; though they had shared their first kiss, Kalas had up and left in a panic to his unfamiliar, overwhelming feelings, breaking her heart as well as his own once more. Just before he could return to her and apologize for his stupid impulses, Melodia, the previously corrupted girl who had been trying to recover from her traumas, was suddenly attacked by dark, shadowy creatures. In trying to save her, Kalas was instead enveloped in a bright flash of light. The next thing he knew, he was diving into a dark abyss, to his Station of Awakening. Through his choices, his single Wing of the Heart was restored to his being to aid him in his coming adventures. In the end, after battling a dark creature that resembled Malpercio, he was suddenly swallowed up by darkness, catching only the faintest glimmer of light before his vision faded into the blackness.
147.
148. And thus, upon awakening from the supposed 'dream', did a new life as an Interference begin for the Divine Child.
149.
150. Kalas began his Interfering by waking up in Ferelden, the setting of Dragon Age: Origins, before Spencer Parker's Interference in the sequel. Upon his awakening, he had been found by a following called the 'cult of Andraste', the following endeavor beginning his hatred of insane cultists. Although he tricked into working for them in order to get them off his back, he was found out when he refused to taint the ashes of a holy woman like he supposedly promised. Though he'd fought back, as a last resort, he had awakened the High Dragon that the cultists worshiped in order to have it turn against them. However, not only had the dragon brutally attacked the cultists, but it had also gone for Kalas. It was there that the one-winged hero discovered that, due to his removal of the bond with his Guardian Spirit, all of his special attacks were gone from his Magnus deck, and that he was brought down in power. Brutalized by the dragon in his weakness, he had been saved by the protagonist of the game, the Grey Warden, along with their traveling companions. Restored back to health, Kalas aided them in turn by giving them a pinch of the ashes that they had sought out, saving them the trouble of going through the tests like he did. Following them for a while, he'd soon found his way out of the world, hijacking an abandoned Gummi Ship and setting out in the worlds.
151.
152. However, due to his inexperience in driving a rocket, he ended up crash-landing on Amestris, landing in the ruined city of Siam-Sid. There, he met Sorin Mireu, who he later discovered to be Audrey's boyfriend, and a demon named Isaac Zivaku, the brother of the angel that came to his world. Just as he got acquainted with them, they had encountered a villain named Ignis Fatuus. Although they managed to fight him off, the dark magic that he wielded had gotten to Kalas, even moreso when the man started to threaten his winglet. In the ensuing panic and rage, he had suddenly changed to the corrupted angel that he thought he'd rejected. Though Ignis escaped his wrath, he had turned on his allies, having lost control of himself. After fighting him off, Kalas had regained control, though not before his corrupted self broke his own arm. Horrified at what he had become, he was advised by the two Interferences to seek out Merlin or Yen Sid for more information, though was warned by Isaac in the case that they'd be forced to having to kill him. It was also there that he discovered that Gregory Zivaku was dead, a fact that filled him with further regret as he would not have the chance to apologize for the attitude he had given him. Just before they had all left, with Sorin giving the one-winged boy a ride to Radiant Garden, Ignis had appeared to them one last time to warn them for the next time they meet, as well as a threat to Kalas that he would be hunting him down for his own purposes.
153.
154. Trying to forget that encounter, Kalas was dropped off at Radiant Garden to get a Gummi Ship of his own, as well as to get some answers from Merlin. As Cid worked on a ship for him, the old wizard began to explain the basics of what an Interference was, aside from the details he already knew about. He also explained the nature of Heartless, the dark creatures that he had faced before, and Nobodies, the latter making Kalas start to compare himself to them, while the former put the hero in a state of panic when he discovered that they could take out whole worlds, fearing for his world's safety after they had just escaped a huge crisis. After learning of these things, he'd then discovered why he suddenly turned into his corrupted 'Angel of Darkness' form, Merlin's magic helping him see what happened. At the end of his Awakening, when was swallowed by the darkness, it had entered his being, taking on the familiar form of his previously evil self. As tearing out his wing would not work the same way that it did before, the Divine Child decided to look for a different way to reject this darkness for good. Before he would set out on that note, Merlin handed him a Magnus, one that contained the first of his special attacks, Blue Storm, and explained that the rest of them were spread out in different worlds for him to find. Thanking him for the help, Kalas had set out on his Gummi Ship, the White Dragon, with several objectives in mind: find a way to save his world before the Heartless took it, regain the power that he had lost upon separating from his Spirit, and permanently reject the Angel of Darkness from his being.
155.
156. Just when he had found this new resolve, however, his journey had taken a turn for the worst. He had crash-landed on another world once more; rather than his inexperience this time, his ship had gone haywire as he neared this world. Having fallen unconscious upon impact, he awoke from a terrifying nightmare, waking up to the foggy streets of Silent Hill. Not only had he met back up with Isaac and Sorin, along with a Naito Zivaku, the apparent future son of Greg and Kyn, but he had also reunited with Audrey Jones, who had dropped into the town to search for her now missing brother. Making their way through the town, facing abominations that Kalas could never have dreamed of encountering, the one-winged hero (though his use of wings was disabled by the world) began to face his own horrors, finding that he had been called to this world rather than simply crash-landing here. Eventually, as a hellish dimension called an "Otherworld" had broken out, the Interferences were then captured by a cult known as the Order. Just as the cult he'd faced before had only began Kalas' hatred for insane cultists, this so-called Order had cemented it when they were all taken away to be tortured for information on the outside worlds. For Kalas, he was injected with hallucinogenic drugs, facing painful and terrifying visions that would have broken his resolve had it not been for one last 'hallucination'. Daimon had appeared before him suddenly, warning him of the dark forces that had infected Malpercio escaping from his world and merging with the forces of Silent Hill in order to weaken him and take him back. Gathering back his willpower, Kalas freed himself, joining up with the rest of his allies, along with the protagonist of the current game they were in, Alex Shepherd, and several other characters, including a Douglas Cartland that Audrey knew well. Before they could all make their escape, both Kalas and Naito were separated from the group, forced to face their own trials. For the Divine Child, he had been faced with the manifestation of his hatred and selfish desires: a monster known as Corvus. Having already overcome his sins, Kalas defeated the monster, rewarded with his next ability, Shadow Wings, as well as being allowed to leave the town with everyone else. As he'd left the hellish world behind, the last thing he had heard were otherworldly voices speaking to him: "If only you knew the truth about your world, Divine Child..."
157.
158. Although he had escaped from Silent Hill, what followed of the incident were constant nightmares for the one-winged hero, to the point of sleepless nights and flashbacks of the horrific events taking over his mind. Unable to handle it, he decided to find his way back home, in spite of his issues still left unresolved. Sending a letter to Xelha, reassuring her that he was okay regardless, and finally apologizing for his previous actions, Kalas began his voyage home. Along the way, he had taken a detour to a place called Magvel, the setting of Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones. Though not really following a specific part of the game, during his small venture, he had come across a Mauthe Doog that was heavily wounded. Having had a previous experience in helping a wounded monster, knowing that they weren't all mindless brutes, Kalas treated the hellhound back to health, developing a connection with it in that it had no family or real home to return to. With this, along with the typical canine loyalty kicking in, he took in the demon dog as a pet, giving him the name 'Lucifer' (a name more fitting for Kalas than the dog). Joined by his new companion, Kalas had eventually found the coordinates to return home. Though overjoyed to be heading back, he was anxious to face Xelha again, uncertain of what she might have felt about him after the stunt he had pulled. Nonetheless, the Divine Child made his way back home.
159.
160. Or he would have, had things not taken another turn for the worst. Just as he was nearing his world, Kalas had suddenly received a note whilst moving through space, what was read turning his blood cold. Ignis Fatuus, the villainous man that he had encountered in Siam-Sid, had gone and kidnapped Xelha, taking her to a dark castle in the Enchanted Dominion, and threatened her safety if the one-winged hero did not make it in time. Enraged, Kalas changed course and went after them before the Nightmare Illusionist could lay another finger on the woman he cared for. Arriving at the dark castle, after taking his wrath out on the minions that resided, he had confronted Ignis Fatuus once more. In spite of his rage and desperation to rescue Xelha, the Divine Child allowed the chance to talk, wanting to know why the illusionist was so interested in him. There, he discovered Ignis' true nature was that of a manifestation-turned-conscious from Silent Hill, that he was the dark being that Melodia had spoken to within Stephan (which had explained why the boy was now trapped within the town). The villain explained further that, through Stephan's eyes, he had watched Audrey's developing crush for the one-winged hero, revealing his goal in making her life a living hell. However, he also stated another reason why he was so interested in Kalas, besides using him to manipulate the Dream Mage. Ignis claimed that they weren't so different from each other, through their origins in being brought into the world by unnatural means, that they were not meant to exist the way they do, and how they were born with only the flaws held within humans, among other things. Disgusted to be compared to the likes of Ignis, Kalas had argued against that claim, stating that while he was artificially created, he was still considered a human, whereas Ignis was genuinely a monster. In spite of this, the one-winged hero had then agreed to becoming the Nightmare Illusionist's servant in order to protect Xelha, sacrificing himself for her safety. However, he had also negotiated his terms for doing so: to not be used against Audrey, as she was still a good friend to him regardless of unrequited feelings, and for Ignis to not go anywhere near Xelha again, or anyone else in his world for that matter. When Ignis revealed Audrey to be a mass murderer to the former, Kalas neither believed him nor denied that fact, merely stating that it just factored another similarity that the two shared: that they both committed crimes that they regret deeply and are trying to atone for them. Either way, Ignis had agreed to the conditions, and Kalas was about to be taken away to be a servant to the dark once more.
161.
162. Just before he was, however, Xelha, having been listening in on their discussion, had intervened before the illusionist could take Kalas away. Despite Kalas telling her not to get involved, that he knew where he was going with this, the Ice Queen was adamant on fighting Ignis off to protect her love, Lucifer even aiding her. Though Kalas had been about to step in and stop this, the Angel of Darkness began to react within him, putting him in a struggle against his dark persona. However, it all broke down when, going against his promise, Ignis had forced a kiss on Xelha after trapping her in an illusion. In the ensuing fury, the Angel had taken over and went after Ignis, saving Xelha for later in his corrupted state. He had fought off the illusionist, who had been weakened thanks to the Ice Queen's spells, but before he could finish him off, Xelha stepped in once more, intending to bring her love back like she did before. Though she had handled her own, due to her physical weakness that had come with her revival, the Angel had held her down, ready to kill her on the spot. But even in the face of death, Xelha managed to speak through to him, bringing Kalas to fight back once more. He regained control when, in the middle of his struggle, Xelha kissed him, her love reaching through to him with that simple action. However, their moment was disrupted by Ignis, who waited for the two to finish their fight before he went back to the matter at hand. With the two weakened, the villain attempted to trap the two in another illusion and take them away from there. But, at the last moment, Xelha pulled out the Ocean Mirror on Kalas' word, the sacred artifact having lost its power after the events of their story, but working as a normal mirror to rebound the illusion back to Ignis, trapping him in his own nightmare. With that, the two heroes made their escape, supposedly leaving the man for dead, but unaware that another watching villain would then save him.
163.
164. Before they returned home, Kalas and Xelha took a small detour. With Lucifer waiting for them on the White Dragon, the couple landed in Destiny Islands for a peaceful world to talk in. There, Kalas had broken down before her, letting out all of the stress and fears that had piled in. As always, the heroine comforted him in his vulnerable state, letting him know that she had forgiven him for what happened before he was whisked away from their world. Despite the heartfelt reunion, once Kalas had gotten his act together, he explained how the Angel of Darkness came into being once more, telling her how he was looking for a way to reject it for good. Due to the events that transpired, he felt that returning home with the Angel in his being would bring another crisis, and thus he told the Ice Queen that he would continue to be an Interference and return once he had finally rid himself of the excessive darkness. Understanding, Xelha gave her reassurance that she believed in him, as well as her pendant, telling him that she had magically altered it to allow her to telepathically speak with him, letting him know that she would still be there with him. Before Kalas would bring her back to their world, however, the two had made one last decision, in the case that they would not see each other for a long while. They spent the night on the world, showing the full extent of their feelings to each other for the first time. What followed of this was a much more intimate mindlink, thanks to the leftover traces of their bonding with Daimon, allowing the two lovers to function almost exactly like a Spiriter and their Guardian. With a newfound resolve, Kalas headed back out in the worlds after bringing Xelha back home, determined to find a way to overcome his dark persona for good, and to not let his fears get to him.
165.
166. Kalas arrived in Twilight Town next, meeting back up with Naito Zivaku after the events in Silent Hill. Along with him, he bought a "Skill Gear" from a moogle named Elmira, whereas Naito bought a "Mystery Gear." What followed was a sudden mental battle against a shadowed version of Xaldin, in an attempt to gain a set of six lances called "Moonglade." As well, this was where his mindlink with Xelha exhibited itself, the Ice Queen joining him in the apparent dream to aid him in battle. In the end, they prevailed and Kalas had obtained Moonglade in their victory, which he felt symbolized his connection with Xelha (their penchant for meeting under the moon, and the fact that Moonguile Forest, where they first met, was originally called Moonglade Forest). Upon awakening, he found that Naito had gone through a similar battle against a shadowed Saix to obtain the Bunnymoon claymore; however, his weapon had controlled him with rage, and thus wouldn't use it unless he needed to. Following this, Lucifer, having run off on his own, had returned with his next ability, Energy Wave. Saying goodbye to Naito, Kalas moved on with his adventures.
167.
168. Next, he would find himself in the Keyblade Graveyard. Remembering one thing that Merlin had told him when discussing Heartless and Nobodies, that the only way to keep a world's heart from being swallowed was to seal the Keyhole to it with a Keyblade, Kalas tried to pick out one of the many Keyblades that resided the barren desert. Though he had picked an Oblivion Keyblade out of the ground, he could only feel the faint traces of power within it, like a Guardian Spirit desperately reaching out to bond with someone, but not enough for it to lock something major. However, it was here that the Divine Child had met up with Sora, the Keyblade Wielder that visited his world with his friends, after so long. Just before he could ask the fellow hero in using his Keyblade to save his world, they were suddenly attacked by a "Ghost;" a third enemy type that was a complete, but corrupted Somebody; called a Phantom, a corruption of a Samurai Nobody. Though with some difficulty, the two protagonists managed to fight it off, the Oblivion that Kalas held reacting in its use when the one-winged hero had reached out to the energies calling within, along with the murder of "Thetans;" corruptions of the Creeper Nobodies; that followed in the Phantom's defeat. The latter had the Angel breaking out, but only temporarily as Xelha reached through to him. With that done, Kalas had asked for Sora's help in sealing the Keyhole to his world, as well as apologizing for the attitude he had given him and his friends. Sora, being Sora, gladly accepted and forgave him without question, even inviting him along to see how it worked since Kalas decided to hold on to the Oblivion Key. Though he warned the Keyblader about the possibility of the Angel breaking out in vicinity of his world, he still followed along, holding back as much as he could and re-acquainting with the Keyblader along the way. Upon his world's Keyhole being sealed, Kalas thanked Sora for the help, apologizing once more for good measure, before they had gone their separate ways, a possible crisis averted in his world (though still infested with Heartless). However, as he'd left, he couldn't help but feel a strong darkness, like what he'd felt when storming Cor Hydrae...
169.
170. To try and clear his mind, Kalas visited a world called Nippon, the serene air in the Agata Forest giving him peace. To his surprise, he'd found that it was where Kynthia Usagi had hailed from, meeting up with the demigoddess not long after arriving on the world. He had also met back up with Sorin and Isaac once more, along with a soldier named Azumi Ian, and also met up with the Princess of Heart, Kairi. Once again, he apologized to Kairi and Kyn for his rudeness upon meeting; though the Princess had forgiven him like Sora had, the demigoddess completely blew him over, telling him along with all the others besides her best friend to leave her world. His dislike of her grew even further when he witnessed Kyn bypass Kairi's offer to travel with her, as well as him attempting to offer condolences in regards to Greg's death (though not mentioning it directly). Though irritated with her hypocritical behavior, he tolerated the others who had been around and offered reassurance to Kairi in her sadness to her friend up and abandoning her, as well as letting her know his recent meeting with Sora. With that, after a small bit of reflection in the forest, Kalas moved on.
171.
172. However, what followed was another horrifying trip in another survival-horror world. Once more, it was due to his ship going haywire, though this time he had used an emergency exit, winding up in Fairport, the setting of F.E.A.R. Upon waking up from a nightmare once again, he ended up following a little girl in red by the name of Alma. What followed of it, however, was a series of horrifying hallucinations, an unknowing murder of several, and the Angel breaking out once again. Though he had regained control of himself, he was horrified at what had come of it, the blood of many now on his hands thanks to the ghost girl. Fearful, but also angered at the possibility of being manipulated, he met up with several other Interferences that had come through their own horrors: Isaac and Naito Zivaku once more, a Sneaselmorph named Jasmine that Naito liked, and a Cheryl "Heather" Mason that he had heard about in his venture in Silent Hill. Following this, however, was bearing witness to a supposedly live piece of footage of Greg fighting off Alma, without success; though it was a displaced moment, it still hinted to Kalas that Greg was very much alive. At the end, after being faced with a particularly destructive hallucination with everyone else, everyone was suddenly gone from the world thanks to Alma, Kalas reappearing back on his ship. He was greeted by a concerned Lucifer and Xelha's worrying voice, having been unable to hear her during this trip. Assuring that he was going to be okay, Kalas once again continued his world-hopping endeavor, trying to forget about his next nightmare-inducing experience.
173.
174. In order to vent, he ended up in the world of Devil May Cry, during the third game in the series. There, he had met the Interference Naomi Castillo, who he found instantly annoying, along with the protagonist Dante. Nonetheless, he found himself with many exciting fights to vent out his frustration, his fourth ability Flash Explosion, and bearing a small witness to the conflict between Dante and his brother Vergil. Following this was a visit to Atlantica with Naomi, where he had also met up with Azumi once more. Aside from the shark attack and the hit to the head at the end, the short trip to the underwater world was more or less pleasant, with him regaining Water Blade in the process. However, it was his next venture into Halloween Town, an otherwise interesting world to visit, that things once again took a turn for the worst. It was there that he met Jonathan Crane, the Scarecrow, who tricked him to making a bit of small talk before tossing a canister of a hallucinogenic gas, once again trapping him in a nightmare of being attacked by a murder of crows. Though genuinely fearful and helpless, Kalas managed to fight back, though only until the Angel of Darkness broke free once more and attempted to finish the job. Although the Scarecrow escaped, Kalas was quick to regain control once more, though not before being faced with the rest of his horrors before the fear toxin had run out. With a new hatred towards the masked villain, Kalas swore to kill him the next time they would meet before he left, once again to clear his mind.
175.
176. During his visit to Wonderland, Kalas had regained one of his own illusory attacks, Dream Blade, after going through the quirky, topsy-turvy world, feeling right at home thanks to his being raised in the equally quirky Mira. However, the minute Lucifer had run off on his own, everything went downhill once again. Following the Mauthe Doog, he had come across a silver-haired woman and Sorin Mireu, the latter not seeming himself. While hiding to assess the situation, he had also seen a young Interference, Damien Reid, doing the same. However, when the woman, who introduced herself as Dani, began to hypnotize his pet, Sorin had caught them and attacked, clearly under the woman's spell. Not only that, but he had caught to the order to the demon dog, for him to act as a guard dog to her, one Rikka Masami, and Ignis Fatuus, the realization of the Nightmare Illusionist still wandering the worlds, and for this woman to be working with him, bringing the one-winged hero to freeze in place from the shock. However, he snapped back when, after being incapacitated, Dani had attempted to hypnotize both him and Damien, the boy to be a messenger while himself, after the Hypnotic Seductress displayed an interest in him, to go to Ignis Fatuus like the illusionist intended. Though he was unaffected by the spell, his willpower strong against her weakened state, he played along until he attacked at the last moment. He had fought against both Sorin and Lucifer then, Damien, though under the woman's hypnosis, staying back due to the orders given, as well as his lack of powers and weapons. It was during the fight when, after pulling it out as a last resort, he was taken over by the latent energies in the Oblivion Keyblade, though temporarily. In the end, Kalas had used his newly obtained ability on Dani, the severity of the attack forcing her to retreat, taking Sorin and Lucifer with her, as Damien had broken free. With a final note to the External to be on the lookout from now on, Kalas left the insane world to seek out Audrey and warn her about her boyfriend.
177.
178. Temporarily joining up with not just Audrey, but also Cheryl, who he discovered to be good friends with the Dream Mage as well, the trio chased the villainous woman to Traverse Town, a world that was particularly fateful for the two women. There, both the Divine Child and the Holy Mother fought off against the Hypnotic Seductress and the hypnotized Mauthe Doog, Audrey using her Dream magic to free Sorin from his prison like she had done with Kalas before. Though Dani retreated in the end, Kalas was able to save Lucifer from the spell. While waiting for the couple to wake up from their mental endeavor, Kalas had conversed with Cheryl, letting her know of his unwanted venture into Silent Hill by letting her know about Douglas, by the old detective's request. Despite knowing the woman was from the hellish town, he found her to be a good ally to rely on. With Sorin and Audrey waking up, the Solar Samurai freed from the spell, Kalas and his demon dog companion moved on in their adventures.
179.
180. The next worlds visited were met with some promise. Visiting the world of Lord of the Rings, Kalas met the Blood Mage Spencer Parker, who he had found incredibly annoying the minute he called him "Blueberry," but otherwise stuck around, regaining Fangs of Light and defending Helm's Deep throughout the night along with the mage and the heroes of the story. Following this was a crash-landing in the Earth of the Haloverse, where not only had he met up with Cheryl and Azumi, as well as the Reploid called Zero, but had met up with the revived Greg Zivaku. There, he partook in the Battle of New Mombasa with the Interferences, making their way through with a lot of effort and time as they aided the protagonists. A month later, he was there when the Corporal was promoted to Sergeant, as well as helping around with making repairs with his slight knowledge on engineering, thanks to Georg. In that timeframe, he had also finally apologized to Greg for his rudeness, the Cruxis angel taking it in stride due to the fact that, as much as he implied, he was a lot worse than Kalas could ever be, even with the one-winged hero's previous crimes. In turn, Greg had given an upgrade to his otherwise normal camera, now allowing it to give tactical info rather than something to make money off of.
181.
182. Afterwards, Kalas found himself drawn to Castle Oblivion, the latent powers projecting his memories on its many floors. The Divine Child decided to look further into his life, into the forgotten memories of his childhood in the Empire, wanting to know what his creator truly felt about him and what really factored in his change of heart. What he discovered was that Georg really did care for him upon his creation, before Fee's birth, but could do little for him due to orders from the Emperor. He also discovered that he received terrible treatment from the Imperial soldiers, including a young and brash Giacomo out of a disdain that his father would care more for him than his own son. In the end, he found out why he lost his memory of his time in the labs: during the fire, he received a severe injury to the head from the fallen debris, as well as nearly being swallowed by the flames had Georg not rescued him. Although traumatic, by facing his forgotten memory, Kalas finally lifted the shadows of his past, coming to terms with himself and thanking his grandfather for giving him purpose. In turn, he was rewarded with Chaotic Illusion, with one more attack to go. However, before he left, he began to experience memories that weren't his own, belonging to someone called 'Sagi'. Though only catching glimpses before he'd left, he found that this implied there was a third who was involved in his creation, these unknown memories influencing from that involvement.
183.
184. Following this, Kalas made his way to the Mass Effect universe, ending up on the Normandy SR-2. There, he'd met up with Cheryl, Isaac, Naito, and Jasmine, the four having something of a double date, leaving him as the fifth wheel (though Xelha was there to console him). Along with them, he'd aided the crew members in recruiting Kasumi Goto, the thief having them help in a heist along with the female Commander Shepard. In the process, the men received suits, and the women short-skirted dresses for a dinner party, and were allowed to keep them afterwards (though Kalas reserved his for only a special case, not really liking the suit even if it was equipped with a cape at his insistence).
185.
186. Afterwards, he had gone to another world in the same universe along with the duo of Cheryl and Isaac, to the criminal capital of Omega. There, after heavily drinking, he'd met up along with the two with Azumi and Zero, the Sergeant and Reploid discussing secret matters, but allowing them, even with his inebriation, to join in recruiting some mercenary groups and doing favors for Aria T'Loak. However, with him joining Cheryl as they organized separate groups, they were cornered by Ignis Fatuus. Even in his intoxication, Kalas attempted to fight back in a rage, but the Nightmare Illusionist had kidnapped the two, a forced kiss on both of them trapping them in a coma, the spell used even reaching Xelha through the mindlink. In their mental prison, the lovers were slowly brainwashed into becoming 'pets' for Ignis, but were rescued along with Cheryl by Audrey, the Dream Mage having been alerted along with Sorin to their plight by Isaac. Though, like Cheryl, he didn't remember what was done in his mind, he knew that Xelha was in trouble alongside him. To his further rage, he woke up to find himself in a male dancer uniform, Cheryl also in a different outfit of her own. Even more, he had discovered that the Scarecrow was the one that aided the rescue team, due to a contract that was formed by Azumi while she was held captive on the ship, the White Night, but unwilling to leave for her own reasons. Despite his anger, Kalas held it in long enough for them to make their escape, even after they were cornered by an angered Ignis Fatuus. Though the villain slightly calmed himself once Scarecrow talked him down, he allowed them to leave, but only on the condition that Kalas remained, the one-winged hero not being a part of Azumi's contract. Though it seemed like he agreed to it, Kalas instead tricked him by throwing a cake at him and giving him a kick in the gut for good measure, the distraction allowing everyone to leave at once. In spite of the hilarity of the situation, Kalas was still deeply enraged by what he discovered, being given further reason to hunt down the Nightmare Illusionist for what he had done, but also beginning to dislike Azumi for her possible betrayal, her serving the villainous organization called "the Collective" bringing one too many bad memories of Kalas' time working for the corrupted Melodia.
187.
188. In spite of his growing hatred, on Azumi's word, along with curiosity about her methods, Kalas was inducted to an order known as the Crimson Dawn, a black operations spy network that the Sergeant and Zero led, wanting to have organized help and fitting in due to his previous experience as a spy. He met up with Cheryl afterwards, who also joined to better her expertise in parkour. Though the two disagreed heavily on their views of Azumi, Cheryl feeling that the soldier didn't have any other choice and blaming the Collective more, Kalas found her to be a good friend otherwise, despite her comments on his outfit and behind. Following this was a visit to a New York City, in the setting of Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, where he met with Azumi and two superheroes by the names of Batman and Spider-Man. Despite his detesting Azumi (which even he admitted was petty and hypocritical), he joined alongside them to aid the other Spider-Man of this universe and Moon Knight, the one-winged hero revealing Azumi's forced work with the Collective to Batman at her request, even though he didn't like having to rat her out. In the end, after facing the supervillain Vulture, Kalas acquired the last of his abilities, Wind Guardian, formerly Lord of the Wind.
189.
190. After a trip to Skyloft, meeting up with Naomi (who still annoyed him) and a Rozalin Chroma (who he grew a brotherly attachment for), and obtaining a wind-infused whip that he called Blitz, Kalas found himself on a particularly nasty trip to the world of Resistance: Fall of Man, in the third game of the series. There, he and the other Interferences, which included Cheryl, Spencer, Azumi, and Greg, were captured in the powerless world and imprisoned within a "Grateford Prison." Kalas had gotten himself out by agreeing to work for the Wardens, on the condition that they made things harder for Azumi. However, once again in spite of his hypocritical hatred, he regretted his decision the moment he watched his friends forced into a gladiatorial arena in a fight to the death, his attempt to only getting Azumi greivously injured instead nearly killing her. Despite being sick to the stomach by his own actions, he gave some information on his allies, primarily Azumi, in order to keep the suspicion off of him, speaking with the apparent head Mick, though greatly detesting him for his cruel behavior. In the end, he made another betrayal against the prison Wardens he supposedly agreed to work for, with help from an old man named Herbert, freeing his friends and the game's protagonist from their prison. Though he received a hefty beating for his false betrayal, he still helped in their escape, regaining their equipment and Cheryl and Azumi receiving new weapons. Their efforts were gory, with Kalas getting bitten by a Chimera along the way, but they eventually made their way out of the prison. However, after Kalas' attempts to have Azumi injured were revealed, even though he stated he regretted that decision and didn't intend to get her killed, he didn't argue back further as the Sergeant shot him in the knee and shouted him down, letting him know the extent of his sins that further filled him with guilt. Just before they could leave, Kalas suddenly fell ill, having been infected with a Chimeran virus from the previous bite. Although he felt he didn't deserve it, the group still came together to save him, following a gruesome process that involved a hot bar of metal.
191.
192. From there, Kalas was kept under Cheryl's watch until he fully recovered. Though the Holy Mother was equally upset with his actions, she came around as, with Kalas' reluctant permission, he allowed Xelha to talk to her through the pendant to explain about him. From there, the two discovered that they were more alike than they thought, with their unnatural birth, their being prophesized for destruction (Kalas being the White Winged Darkness that would swallow the world in a maelstrom of chaos, Cheryl being the Holy Mother that would lead her followers to "Paradise" with "blood-stained hands"), their losses of non-biological families, and their need for revenge for their murders (the difference being that while Giacomo was against killing Kalas and his family, the woman Cheryl called Claudia Wolf had personally ordered for the death of her father). Their friendship grew, but an incident involving the Angel of Darkness taking over in his weakness brought the young woman into a coma with supposed amnesia. In further guilt of his actions, even though he had been possessed, Kalas still joined along with several Interferences such as Audrey and Isaac to help make up for the damage he caused. Though Cheryl turned out okay in the end, both her and the second personality known as Alessa Gillespie forgiving him, he was put to questioning by the Amestrian military, the incident happening in East City, right after. He had been allowed to go afterwards, on the note that he took care of his problem by the time he shows up in the city again. With that, Kalas left, further motivated to finally rid of his dark persona after so long.
193.
194. The Divine Child went to Destiny Islands not long after that incident, wanting to clear his mind and reflect on all his experiences as an Interferences. Hemet with Kairi there, who was also clearing her mind after receiving some sad news. In spite of the awkwardness that followed in discovering that she lived on this world, the two had re-acquainted, and from the Princess, Kalas discovered Kynthia's irrevocable death. Despite his disliking the demigoddess for her attitude, he still offered condolences on the matter, even after Kairi admitted having a falling out due to her behavior. In turn, he explained his troubles with the Angel of Darkness, how he was trying to find a way to reject it now that he regained his lost abilities and had gotten stronger. Just before Kairi could offer some advice, they were interrupted by another of the Ghosts: a "Specter," a corruption of the Sniper Nobody. Though the two fought back, the Specter's ability to transfer its pain to its opponents had brought them down severely, to the point where the Angel was close to breaking out once more. Doing his best to hold back, Kalas reached to his last resort, the Oblivion Keyblade. The minute he grabbed for it, time suddenly stood still for the heroes, the latent energies within the Key used up in this last act. The spirit that lied dormant within the Keyblade, a woman who had been a part of the Keyblade War and previously wielded the Oblivion, had been freed, but took possession of Kairi to perform one last act before she passed. After being with Kalas for a long while, she had seen his potential to become a Keyblade Wielder in his own right, and, through a fellow Keyblade Wielder's body, intended to perform the Keyblade Inheritance Ceremony on him. Though Kalas at first hesitated, he accepted after a moment of consideration, swearing to protect the worlds should he be given the obligation. With that, the Rite of Succession was done, and the Divine Child received a Keyblade based on his personality, known as Call of the Divine. With a final thanks to the hero for her time with him, as well as giving him her name (which had shocked Kalas), the spirit left Kairi's being and passed on. With new resolve, Kalas and Kairi managed to defeat the Specter with their combined efforts. Afterwards, Kairi gave her advice to Kalas in regards to the Angel: to seek out Yen Sid's help to issue a battle in the Realm of Sleep. She also suggested going to him for training to become a full-fledged Keyblade Master, though Kalas refused, stating that he's better off as a simple wielder to protect the worlds his own way. Thanking her for the help, Kalas left, off to prepare for his final confrontation.
195.
196. Of course, the beginning of his preparation was met with further misfortune. Ending up in the world of The Elder Scrolls, in the Skyrim timeline, Kalas had found himself once again brutalized by a dragon, an Ancient Dragon in this universe, its use of both fire and ice catching him by surprise. Though he was saved by Morag Tong allies, his incidents with dragons was beginning to grow into a hatred for them, with the exception of Xelha's White Dragon (not to be confused with his ship, of which he named after her). Taken to the Falkreath Base to heal, he had met with Azumi, his dislike of her not as much as it used to be now that he had a better understanding, though he didn't bother to beg for forgiveness, knowing that she wouldn't so easily. On her request, he obtained a set of Morag Tong Chitin armor for further aid in Crimson Dawn missions. Though he didn't accept it, he only took it at Xelha's insistence, aiming to alter it sometime in the future.
197.
198. The hero of Baten Kaitos is now preparing for a final confrontation with the Angel of Darkness. With him gaining back his special abilities and growing stronger than he had been with Daimon's help, the Divine Child feels confident that he will reject the excessive darkness within him, though has left a will to Xelha and the rest of his friends back home in the case that he doesn't make it. However, unbeknownst to him, there is more to this revived Angel than what it all seems, as Kalas is about to learn the hard way...

210.
211. "No...." The voice of the blonde mage, the woman he inadvertently had come to care for, even after betraying her trust. Weakened from her strength being drained out for this, and the attacks she had received. "It...can't be....."
212.
213. The monstrous god suddenly fired a volley of beams down at them, all at once, to prevent there escape. Of all the screams from each of them, the blonde woman's had struck him the most. He slowly pushed back to his feet, still weakened from the burning of the Ocean Mirror, the burning she had given him, but couldn't go through with killing him like he had asked.
214.
215. "Xelha!!" he cried, the reformed god landing on the catwalk behind him.
216.
217. Melodia, the white-haired girl behind all of this, the one he agreed to work for all those years ago, laughed her childish laugh as she approached the god she had released. Everything had gone all according to plan. "Welcome back, Malpercio!" she exclaimed with shrill excitement. "Let us begin the celebration of your birth! Enjoy yourself to the fullest!"
218.
219. No, he couldn't let this happen. All that he had brought to this world...he never wanted this! He turned, his teeth gritted in both pain and anger. "M...Melodia!"
220.
221. He charged forward, intent on stopping what he had helped start...only for his own wings to stop him. The white wings he had been "blessed" with. The wings that now controlled him.
222.
223. "You poor fool," Melodia turned to him then, casting her condescending look through her red eyes. As she spoke, the corruption slowly built back up within him, "Haven't I told you? Once you bathe in his light, there's no turning back. You are now a servant of Malpercio...one of the brethren of darkness!"
224.
225. "No..." he growled, doing all he could to resist this power. He wouldn't have this, not if it made him a slave to the dark.
226.
227. A barrier surrounded the evil girl as she ascended from the metal floor, rising to Malpercio's level. A smirk crossed her red lips as she continued to speak, "Now, we must punish the unwise, those who would dare to oppose our god's awakening. Crush them all, Kalas!"
228.
229. Darkness had surrounded the former hero, taking over him. The corruption, Malpercio's influence, had completely taken over him. This time, he didn't think twice about his selfish desires behind this. All that mattered was the command. The order to kill everyone...
230.
231. Slowly, he turned, approaching the fallen heroes. Starting with that blonde girl who tried to get him back, to no avail. The minute he stopped before her, he received two interceptions. First from Meemai, the Greythorne that always stuck with her. The next, the brown-haired Interference girl that fought back the pain, ignored the shouts of the Interference boy, her brother, as she rose to her feet to step in.
232.
233. "You'll have to go through me, first..." she growled.
234.
235. Melodia just laughed once more at this, knowing the odds were completely in her favor. "Go on, Kalas! Squash the insignificant bugs!!"
236.
237. "Don't, Kalas! Please, wake up!!" Daimon, his former Guardian Spirit, bound to the young queen, tried to call out to him, pull him out of the depths of the darkness once more.
238.
239. But it was to no avail. He was under the control of Malpercio, nothing but a mindless slave, ready to carry out his order. He drew his sword, ready to kill those who stood before them. To kill his friends...to kill her--
240.
241. "O Mighty Ocean....." Her voice had stopped him in his tracks. It was quiet, faint from the attack, but he could hear her well. She was praying her nation's prayer, "guide us as we journey through....the darkest pit of night......"
242.
243. He went stock still, his grip on his sword shaking. Her words had reached through to him; in his mind, he saw flashes, memories of the mysterious young mage running through him. Memories of their time together...

256.
257. He said nothing, just looking at her in silence. He didn't know why, but...he felt like she was hiding something. Like there was more to her background than what she had given. She said nothing about it, turning to her pet Greythorne and kneeling beside him.

285. He said nothing, just set his eyes downcast. Then...he reached an arm back, his wings glowing as he gripped the left one. Teeth gritted, he tugged, and tugged, and pulled with all of his might...

287. And then he screamed, another loud, pained scream. With a ripping sound, and the flurry of white feathers that followed, he had torn the wing right out of its socket!
288.
289. "Kalas?!" the young queen had shouted, clearly shocked by this sudden action. Though she was not the only one. In spite of their weakness, everyone, the natives and Interferences, watched in shock and awe at what he had done. The young man fell to his knees in exertion, left with only one glowing wing.
290.
291. But out of everyone, no one had been anymore bewildered than Melodia herself. Her red eyes had shot up, the smirk wiped off and replaced with a dropped jaw. He...he had just...
292.
293. "Wh-what have you done!?" she shouted over her stupor. "Have you lost your mind?!"
294.
295. As she screamed at him, the light slowly faded from his single wing. As it dimmed away, the wing had turned back to the dull gray swan wing that he had been born with. His pact to the evil god had been severed, for good.
296.
297. "How could it be possible?" Melodia continued, unable to contain herself. "Removing the power of a god?! By your own will!?" She could only manage to shake her head in utter disbelief and disgust.
298.
299. "What...are you?!"
300.
301. For a while, he said nothing, still on his knees, completely exerted. However, after a moment, he staggered back to his feet, a hand placed over his heavily bleeding shoulder after that stunt. He could barely stand, but he took the trouble. He turned to face Melodia and the incomplete Malpercio, teeth clenched together once more as he shouted through them.
302.
303. "Melodia...I swear...I will drive Malpercio and his minions from this world! Plunge them right back to the depths of darkness!!!"
304.
305. Kalas, the protagonist of Baten Kaitos, had returned to being a hero once more.
