  1. -Talk about the concept of floors and ceilings and how you can often measure if a pokemon is worth using by evaluating what it does on its best day, vs its worst (although this isn't a hard rule)
  2. -Mention how some pokes just aren't worth using because they don't accomplish enough on their best days
  3.
  4. -Mention how the absurdly busted Curse Light Screen Stantler arguably has the highest ceiling of any of the common normal types you'd find in the tier (and maybe the highest ceiling of any common poke in the tier) while Rest Talk Stantler has a similarily high ceiling
  5.
  6. -Introduce the topic of Fearow as the second highest ceiling of any normal type, and one of the highest ceilings in the tier overall
  7.
  8. ------
  9. Highs
  10. ------
  11. -Mention how its ceiling isn't very far off from Stantler at all, and its huge ceiling is for different reasons from Stantler
  12.
  13. -It has notably the strongest normal-type attack in the tier, far stronger than Stantler despite only slightly higher attack, thanks to it having Double-Edge, unlike Stantler.
  14.
  15. -Double-Edge's recoil is very manageable for Fearow because of Spikes immunity
  16.
  17. -Its speed lets it outrun Xatu and Primeape and thus, have the advantage vs them in a 1v1 vs it, unlike Stantler
  18. -Mention how this ultimately gives Fearow amazing defensive utility, especially for an extremely dangerous offensive pokemon
  19.
  20. -Its speed, in combination with spikes immunity, means that it is useful no matter what hp it's at and makes it particularly good at being useful throughout the course of a game
  21.
  22. -All of this gives Fearow a massive ceiling, as a well played Fearow can accomplish all of early game wallbreaking, late game cleaning, and revenge killing all in one game
  23.
  24. -This also makes Fearow one of the best pokemon at trading itself for another poke, it can do so even after getting a crucial revenge kill or making significant progress in another way
  25.
  26. -While Fearow is obviously at its most threatening late game, due to its incredible sweeping power against weakened teams, it's also amazing early game, especially as it can still very well function without spikes.
  27. -No spikes makes a notable difference against Octillery and Dewgong, although it's relatively inconsequential in Fearow's good matchups, like Xatu, Primeape, and Stantler
  28.
  29. -Fearow's Drill Peck also makes it even more threatening early game, as it makes it a Normal type Pineco struggles to set up on early game, even when Fearow is asleep
  30.
  31. ---------
  32. Graveler
  33. ---------
  34. -Rock types hinder Fearow's effectiveness are Fearow's floor
  35.
  36. -Graveler in particular is really bad for it because it spins away Fearow's Spikes
  37.
  38. -Fearow is difficult to teambuild with partly due to teams needing to compensate for it losing to Graveler. However, there are multiple ways Feaorow teams can deal with Graveler, namely by overloading. All of the teammates that can help overload Graveler with Fearow already work incredibly with it for different reasons
  39. -Pineco can run Toxic or Hidden Power Water, both options have become its standard over the previous standard: Reflect. With either option, the amount of Double-Edges Graveler will be able to take from Fearow ends up being very limited
  40. -Weezing can land a Sludge Bomb poison on Graveler or explode to take around half its hp
  41. -Curse Wigglytuff or Porygon can widdle Graveler down with repeated +1 Double Edges and eventually forcing a boom from Graveler, opening the door for Fearow
  42.
  43.
  44. --------
  45. Dewgong
  46. --------
  47. -While Dewgong struggles to consistently beat Fearow, especially with Spikes, Dewgong poses an issue for it in the teambuilding department
  48.
  49. -Rest Talk Normals are usually tasked with handling Dewgong and Chinchou and Fearow cannot accomplish that at all
  50.
  51. -Adds more onto why Fearow is overall harder to fit onto a team than other Rest Talk normal types
  52.
  53. ---------
  54. Stantler
  55. ---------
  56. -On June 16, 2023, dawn posts in the GSC discord about how she thinks she ruined GSC NU by popularizing Rest Talk Stantler
  57.
  58. -Rest Talk Stantler combined the absurd breaking power of the Curse Light Screen set with the ability to actually break early game into one of the most defining sets in the tier, likely more defining than the Curse Light Screen set
  59.
  60. -Stantler's rising prominence is amazing for Fearow in several ways
  61. -Fearow punishes Resting Stantler hard because Stantler has awful sleep talk rolls vs it, due to it having Earthquake
  62. -Xatu also does this and the Xatu + Fearow combination is one of the best way of handling the absurd Rest Talk Stantler
  63. -Stantler makes for an incredible partner for Fearow due to combining two insanely threatening offensive threats as well as Stantler covering Fearow's inability to handle Dewgong or Chinchou
  64. -Outside of Primeape, Fearow is the best pokemon at punishing Curse Light Screen Stantler for using Light Screen and with Xatu as its partner, this Stantler set has to guess whether to click Light Screen or Curse for the incoming revenge killer.
  65. -Fearow + Xatu combo also makes it easier to position yourself in such a way that denies Stantler the opportunity to break holes or set up
  66.
