Being able to choose what role you take part in is one of my favorite aspects of online communities. I'd describe my role as being a tutor and artist. Not because it came naturally, but it's what I really wanted to pursue and contribute to the community. I started from ground zero knowing nothing and worked my way up to where I wanted to be through lots of learning and trial and error. And I think that's something anyone can do, online or offline.
