  3.
  4. R: Thanks for before mr divine wolf
  5. Z: I merely sensed an unusual presence and tried to follow it but I never expected something like that to appear
  6. R: Haha, this is the first time I'm speaking to you properly. Last time we met was about two years ago. Makes me feel nostalgic
  7. Z: Hm, to me that is merely a second but of course to a child of man that time can be plenty nostalgic
  8. L: It speaks. It's a wolf but it speaks
  9. D: While that's not exactly normal it's no more impossible than you being a doll and speaking
  10. L: You think so?
  11. N: When you put it like that
  12. S: At some point our perception got messed up...
  13. Sh: So you're a doll. Haha, I think this sort of mysterious atmosphere you have is a bit similar to Kea-chan's
  14. Z: Could this child be
  15. L: Yes. Lapis Rosenberg, proud Rosenberg doll
  16. N: Do you know that old man?
  17. Z: We are old friends
  18. N: Now that's really suspicious. A cute girl like Renne being his acquaintance makes me think of an old kinda pervy man and his student but now he's apparently friends with a talking wolf too.
  19. A: Jeorg Rosenberg. From what I've heard he is quite the mysterious elderly man
  20. Ru: The divine wolf, Zeit. I suppose there is no mistaking the holy beast created by the Goddess in order to protect the Mirage Sept-terrion
  21. Z: It's as you say Awakener of the Gold one. However it has been a while since I was relieved from my duty.
  22. Ru: Hehe, that makes two of us.
  23. L: What are they talking about?
  24. S: Who knows, I don't get it at all
  25. Ru: While the chance to speak with a holy beast is quite precious you'll allow us to return to the main subject. Grimwood attorney could we ask you a few questions about Lapis?
  26. I: I will tell you everything I know. In a way that is the reason I am here. However in order to put things in order I'd like you to first tell me what you know as well as the particulars of your meeting this girl
  27. Ru: But of course.
  28. I: I see, now it makes sense
  29. S: It's your turn to talk now.
  30. I: That's right. I'm not too sure where to start from but it's probably best to go chronologically. I'll have to tell you about myself first so please bear with me
  31.
  32. I: As you can see I'm serving prison time but my work as a legal advisor has continued somewhat. Chairman McDowell considered it better I be of some use to Crossbell instead of rotting in a jail and I'm grateful for it. There are some restrictions of course but to a certain extent I can communicate with the outside and I was even given a terminal. I had a relative freedom of movement despite being in prison and thanks to that I was able to shelter Shizuku now
  33. N: That's some pretty favorable treatment.
  34. Ru: It would be a waste to simply detain a talented man like Grimwood attorney. I also approved of this when I was the governor. Then again when the imperial army was in control all correspondence was monitored.
  35. I: Just before the war drew to a close, one day someone contacted me through the terminal. They called themselves Elysion.
  36. L: Ely...sion
  37. I: This continued despite the communications blockade before the war and the penal operator didn't seem to notice anything.
  38. R: Was it a hacker good at manipulating the orbal net like me?
  39. I: I suspected the same at first. When I tried asking about their goal they only told me "I want to converse with you"
  40. D: What a weird person
  41. I: My interest had been piqued so I complied. I kept talking with Elysion every day after that without anyone knowing
  42. N: What did you talk about?
  43. I: Everything
  44. S: Everything?
  45. I: All sorts of sciences, ideas, skills, even history. We talked about almost everything you can think about. And although we leaned towards some things I was surprised at the vast knowledge on all subjects Elysion possessed. It was so great even I couldn't begin to compare to it.
  46. Sh: How could it be so much better than you?
  47. I: Haha comparatively speaking I'm quite ignorant. Elysion did not just possess a great amount of knowledge but also the latest news on everything that was happening outside. From the parliamentary agenda to the new menu of back street alley food carts it was almost scary how much knowledgeable they were. Moreover as far as I could confirm they were correct about everything.
  48. R: Gathering information is a good hacker's forte but if it's such a wide field...
  49. N: sounds impossible as far as time and effort goes
  50. R: Exactly
  51. I: That roused my doubts too of course but there was something else that felt out of place
  52. Ru: And that was?
  53. I: Elysion had a great amount of knowledge but when it came to data while there was a trend it lacked directionality
  54. D: A-and what does that mean?
  55. I: Whenever people obtain knowledge or information they usually have a purpose too. They want to know something because it can be helpful or to get a sense of accomplishment or even to simply understand their surroundings and environment. However when talking to Elysion I could not feel this purpose that should accompany such a great amount of knowledge. Knowledge itself was not the purpose either. In a purely automatic way or perhaps as if it was there from the start information kept gathering inside Elysion. That is how it felt to me.
  56. L: Automatically...
  57. Sh: That...
  58. A: sounds dangerous
  59. I: Yes I don't know how appropriate this example is but at that time Elysion seemed to me like a child who'd been given an astronomical amount of money but didn't even know how to properly use mira yet.
  60. Ru: When you say "at that time"?
  61. I: Sharp as ever huh? But please listen to this in order. What I mentioned before made me hit on a hypothesis: What if Elysion weren't a human? And when I asked Elysion anticlimactically enough it simply answered me. Turns out from the beginning it wasn't trying to hide it
  62. N: So the answer was
  63. I: An A.I.
  64. D: An A.I!
  65. S: Like an archaism?
  66. N: From what I've heard it should be on a different level to that. Just like...
  67. D: Who could have made something so outrageous? Could it be the 13 factories?
  68. R: It's a bit hard to believe even they could have this kind of technological capability
  69.
  70. I: Elysion's birth is quite peculiar. No one created it intentionally, rather it self-emerged
  71. Sh: I don't really get that...
  72. R: You could say it's a phenomenon where individual components acquire a fixed systematization and cyclicity as a whole
  73. I: As you all know the orbal network is laid out around Crossbell. And this network stretches to the Empire and Liberl.
  74. R: It's being steadily established in other countries too
  75. N: You can feel that times are changing
  76. I: Connected like stitches and transmitting information, this orbal network is definitely the result of the technology of a new age. However since the old times and likely since the very beginning a similar thing existed in the entire continent. You are aware of this aren't you?
  77. N: From the beginning?
  78. S: Was there such a thing?
  79. A: Could you mean
  80. Z: the spirit veins
  81. I: Indeed. Also called septium or dragon veins. I am hardly an expert but I believe they exist throughout the continent and transmit something incorporeal. And in the span of a few years they've seen great activity twice.
  82. R: With the Azure Tree and the Twilight.
  83. I: Yes and here's the issue. Without it being anyone's intention the mobilized spirit veins and the orbal network influenced each other. Their intersection acted as a nervous system where information kept coming and going. It was like a simulation of the human brain but the scope was that of an entire continent
  84. S: The human brain...on a continental level
  85. I: From there an original thought was born. That is Elysion.
  86. Sh: Is that even possible?
  87. I: What we know for sure is that it's not something that can be reproduced. Even now humanity isn't able to perfectly understand how the human brain works. We don't even know what kind of structure does what in order for conscience to be born. Therefore it is a product of coincidence, something akin to a miracle.
  88. R: Since Elysion was born from the orbal net and the spirit veins it makes sense it had so much information
  89. I: Yeah but if that was really all there is to it then it'd be no more than a gigantic database possessing advanced self-judgement. While potentially dangerous depending on the way it was used it could be controlled by humans. However Elysion wasn't limited to that.
  90. D: You're saying there was something more?
  91. I: The ability to calculate
  92. Sh: Which means what?
  93. I: Would it be easier to understand if I said it's like parallel computing using multiple terminals
  94. Sh: I'm sorry but I don't get that either
  95. R: Obviously. Regular people wouldn't be aware of the development stages of the (Epstein) foundation or the ZCF's latest technology.
  96. D: Is that such a huge deal?
  97. R: Yes. No matter how high level the terminal there is a limit to its calculating ability. If you were to link multiple terminals though and have them process the same problem you could easily break through that limit. However when it comes to parallel processing several units there is still a limit
  98. I: When it comes to parallel calculations Elysion conducts those by borrowing resources from all terminals connected to the orbal network
  99. R: So that's what it was, I get it now
  100. N: Isn't that dangerous?
  101. Ru: If that's true it seems presumptuous to call the throughput of our existing terminals a toy
  102. I: To add to that it is borrowing the surplus resources of the terminals so the user doesn't even notice it
  103. Sh: Kinda scary...and nasty
  104. I: Anyway the knowledgeable Elysion used that calculating ability to self-evolve repeatedly
  105. D: So there is more to it?
  106. I: Yeah in fact this is the important part. At the end of the repeating self-evolution by means of an unimaginable amount of information and calculating ability what Elysion reached was operation: limited formulation of converging futures" [t/n operation as in a mathematical one]
  107. S: operation...limited formulation of converging futures.
  108. N: You can sort of imagine what it means but is it really...?
  109.
  110. I: It is as you imagine. Once the conditions are established it calculates with precision the possible incidents that can occur under those conditions and what lies beyond their convergence. In other words it can observe the future
  111. Z: The power to see the future...we have crossed into the Goddess's domain now
  112. R: It's the she singularity Dr. Epstein who invented the orbments predicted when he was still alive: "Self-evolving knowledge that surpasses humans. Once that point is reached then technological progress will be freed from human hands"
  113. Ru: And "For better or worse it will revolutionize human society more than ever"
  114. R: I didn't expect it to come true like this
  115. A: This is absurd
  116. I: I should say that thankfully that was not the only thing Elysion evolved. As I said at the beginning Elysion wanted to talk to me in order to understand humans. I couldn't quite understand why it picked me for its goal but while we talked repeatedly, Elysion formed a pseudo administrator personality based on human feelings and thought patterns. That was...
  117. L: That was...me
  118. N: La-chan
  119. S: Did your memories...?
  120. L: Not all of them but while listening I remembered a bit
  121. R: So that's why you were so quiet
  122. L: Ian keep talking
  123. I: Haha that's what you used to say when we talked back then. Now that I think about it I named you Lapis
  124. N: Oh so you're her godparent
  125. L: You did?
  126. I: You said you didn't need a name but you were overflowing with emotions so I went ahead and started calling you that
  127. L: It's a cute name so I like it. I'll give you 100 points.
  128. S: I still don't get your standards
  129. I: Back to the subject, once the Elysion system got Lapis's personality it acquired independence. And it was stipulated that its nature would be one of observing and calculating.
  130. Ru: Observation and calculation...
  131. I: It would only assume a support position as an observer and didn't intent to actively interfere in human society. To be honest I was relieved when I heard that. We had managed to avoid the worst possibility i.e Elysium becoming the enemy of humanity
  132. Z: The enemy of humanity huh
  133. Sh: Just imagining it makes your blood run cold
  134. I: I felt a vague anxiety but I was convinced that as long as Lapis existed Elysion was safe
  135. N: As long as Lapis existed...
  136. S: But actually Lapis lost her memories and moved independently as a doll so...
  137. I: It all happened one day when without any precursor Lapis didn't visit me. I assumed something had happened to the administrator personality or even to Elysion itself. And the one who appeared to me then was that new supreme ruler Rufus. He said that they wanted to make a new world order and wanted me to help them
  138.
  139. A: If you put all this together
  140. Ru: The real identity of our enemy becomes finally clear
  141. I: Yes I immediately understood that was all Elysion's doing. So while he was waiting for my answer I contacted Dieter and Garcia who were detained like me and the three of us came up with a plan. I would probably be monitored and left in prison so I asked those two to pretend co-operating and find a chance to stall Elysion. Once that was decided those two accepted the new supreme ruler's offer and under his guidance escaped this place.
  142. D: So that's what happened behind the scenes
  143. R: Hehe how reassuring
  144. I: This ends my story. After that I simply waited here till someone seeking the truth would arrive. I kept my expectations low but you did visit Lapis
  145. Ru: Well, now it's your turn. Have you perhaps recovered your memories?
  146. L: Yeah mostly. But Ian's already said most of it so all that's left for me is to add the final part
  147. N: The final part...
  148. S: what on earth happened to Elysion?
  149. L: To put it simply it got taken over
  150. D: Taken over you say
  151. A: That must be a very advanced existence
  152. N: Who could it be?
  153. L: I...don't know that. When I realized it the system had designated my administrator personality as an attack target and was about to erase me. So in the end I used the operation: limited formulation of converging futures once to come up with a counter plan
  154. Sh: What counter plan?
  155. L: Before it could erase me I detached myself from the system and sent myself to Jeorg Rosenberg. He manufactured this body so I could reach the individual who would definitely appear afterwards calling himself C, Rufus.
  156. Ru: So that's what that prophetic sounding request was about
  157. N: I never thought the client would be Lapis herself
  158. Ru: Why me though?
  159. L: Through the Orchis Tower terminal I learned of the new supreme ruler Rufus
  160. Ru: And without realizing it the observation target had become me
  161. L: It's because you are Rufus that you managed to get me here so quickly. If it was anyone else they would have taken more detours. And above all I knew for sure that if it were you you'd confront this situation no matter what methods you had to use. And there was no mistake in my calculation was there?
  162. Ru: Heh, you made a wise decision
  163. R: There's something I don't get now though. I can't think of any person who could have taken over Elysion and planned this incident
  164. D: Maybe it's the sixth pillar, Dr. Novartis?
  165. R: That can't be. He denied it himself and there is no merit for him to go this far
  166. I: It seems like we are still missing the final piece.
  167. Z: However you could say we've discovered almost the whole story about this incident
  168. A: And in the middle of it stands this girl. I'd like to ask you. What is your goal now, what do you plan to do from now on?
  169. L: That's obvious. I will locate the origin of Elysion's takeover and remove it. And while I'm at it I'll put an end to this weird situation. I'm sure that is my duty as Lapis, the administrator.
  170. A: I see, in that case there's only one thing I can do. Shizuku
  171. Sh: Dad?
  172. A: I'm sorry but after I take you to a safe place will you wait a little longer along with Ian
  173. Sh: All right. Do your best dad
  174. A: Got it. Once again Arios McLaine of the bracer society will accompany you until the end of this path
  175. D: I've involved myself this far so I will see this to the end as well.
  176. L: All right, let's get along well
  177.
  178. Afterwards Ines and Ennea who had come to the police academy to meet up with Duvalie, heard about the situation and her resolve and sent her off trusting in her decision
  179.
  180. I: We'll continue scouting the surrounding bases and keep these two safe
  181. D: I'll leave it to you
  182. A: I'm entrusting Shizuku and Ian to you
  183. E: Hehe it's an honor to receive a request from the Divine Blade of the Wind
  184. N: Is mr wolf coming with us?
  185. Z: Yes I've also promised to meet up with Lloyd and I have a feeling if I come with you your paths will naturally cross
  186. S: At the doll factory when we worked together...
  187. R: Hehe seems like with the situation being as it is there's a need to make direct contact
  188.
  189. L: Ian
  190. I: Is there something else Lapis?
  191. L: I just forgot to tell you something
  192. L: Thank you Ian
  193. I: As someone aware of Elysion's existence it was only natural I'd tell you the truth. There's no need for thanks
  194. L: No that's not it. Thank you for all the conversations we had until now. It's because of you that I became who I am now. And it's thanks to you I could make this journey with Rufus and the rest
  195. I: Haha, nothing makes me happier than you saying that. Everything I did meant something.
  196. L: You know, if I have become a character capable of forming a correct judgment it's because inside you there's definitely a heart which seeks what's right. So you don't have to be scared any more
  197. I: Haha you saw right through me. Deep in my heart I was always afraid. Am I really doing the right thing? Am I capable of making the correct choice? I became unable to believe it because the mistakes I made in the past are too heavy. But thanks to you I think I can reconsider my own self. I have to take a step forward too.
  198. L: Hehe do your best
  199. R: This sound
  200. N: What is it Renne
  201. R: It looks like the communications blockade over Crossbell was just lifted
  202. Sh: So...
  203. Ru: the curtain has risen. At last it's time for the final scene
  204.
  205. Re: Elysion
  206. I know the english translation of Ἠλύσιον is Elysium but the game uses Elysion everywhere (from Ian's pc to the katakana and the voiced lines) and since it's not engrish but simply how the word sounds in greek I kept it instead of changing it. For what it's worth I think they are aware of the word Elysium too because here https://imgur.com/gLq56KA they seem to have tried writing it with greek letters. Unfortunately they failed so now it reads Elpsiim haha...
