Midgardia the series 01: Magic Night

   The streetlight fights to penetrate the ancient faded window of the old dusty attic as mystic candleflame sized orbs of light encircle an archaic parchment laid upon the floor; a small smooth black stone sitting at the center. Here a young woman, barely old enough to qualify as a legal adult is dressed in robes chanting over the parchment. The black stone shakes, glows, and makes odd crackling sounds; the lines of the parchment illuminate as the stream away from the stone filling the parchment; the light shining upon her youthful face, and then blackness.

    Sunlight causes her eyes to open,

    "Wha...where am I?" she stammers as the light shines in through a stone arch of a window, finding herself lying on a red carpet in a long stone hallway.

   A woman's voice echoes from all directions, "You are the one who tried to summon me?"

   "Who...where am I?" asks the girl as she walks towards the window.

   "Halt!" commands the voice, causing the girl to cease her movements in stark surprise.

  "My apologies," says the voice more sweetly, "you do not want anyone to see you in this castle...an intruder in a forbidden, sacred place such as this."

   The girl looks around, she can feel it, the source of the voice is down the hall some ways, she finds herself walking that way.

  "You are truly a powerful sorceress young one," says the voice, "so much potential to feel where I am sleeping."

  "Who...who are you?" asks the girl as she walks, observing murals and tapestries of strange people, regal entities, and terrifying monsters, "where...am I?"

  "You are the one who called out to me," says the voice, "you have projected into my domain young one...I know not your culture...hmmm...or where you are...however here an unexpected guest is seen as polite in announcing themselves first...hmmm."

   "S...sorry," says the girl, "I...my name is Mirai," she curtsies down the hall, given the regal tapestries, the tone of the voice, and being told this is a castle it seems only fitting.

  "I...I'm a summoner," says Mirai, "or...rather a practicing summoner...I..."

  "There you are." says the woman's voice followed by a chuckle.

  Mirai has little time to think about that as everything goes dark again.

  Light once more flows across her eyes waking her up, this time however she finds herself in her attic.

  *Mew*, she looks before her to see a small strange dark red creature, like a cross between a squirrel and a cat.

  "I did it," she whispers and *blinks*

  *Mew*, the image fades to reveal it to be an ordinary grey cat.

  "Oh," says Mirai, "Its just you Tabby, how'd you get in the attic...and..."

  She realizes the sun is what woke her up, "Oh gods...what time is it?! Oh no, oh no, please tell me I'm not late for school!"
