The true story of an English boxer incarcerated in one of Thailand's most notorious prisons as he fights in Muay Thai tournaments to earn his freedom.
I know Billy well, and seeing this movie with anticipation it was easy to see why he is as he is now. A very decent and deserving fellow. Life is a lesson for good or bad, in this case, mostly bad, but so true, and being alone in brutish jail, surviving is king, and he did, the way he knew best, with fighting. Not much in the way of dialogue but just watching it, explains it.
The film tells the events Billy Moore encountered while being locked up in a notorious Thai prison. The film deals with serious themes of suicide, drug addiction, rape, and more. This film is not for the faint of heart, it is dark and gritty but in the end it is a redemption story, and in my opinion one of the better prison films out there.
Cole, best known for a supporting role in the TV series Peaky Blinders, gives everything to this role. It’s a physical transformation in which he convincingly plays a beaten, battered-to-a-pulp boxer who learns the rules of Muay Thai, but also a deep internal reach to deliver a complex, defiantly self-sabotaging character with depth of understanding.
