- I'm jealous
- Why so?
- My best friend.
- From Texas
- Jason Wilkes.
- We used to compete in everything we did.
- And?
- In math, science, everything
- I always scored higher than him, but by very little.
- But he made it up
- by doing better than me in athletics.
- He is going to the Military Academy, West Point with a full ride scholarship.
- Whoa.
- West Point, that's really, really, reallu hard-core.
- *really
- Getting in requires so much work...
- He got a full ride scholarship from West Point, Annapolis and Rice.
- And he didn't even apply to Rice.
- He's not even Valedictorian.
- Well, to be honest, going to any military academy is free.
- :|
- He is such a beast.
- D:
- But Rice is not free.
- o o;
- And the West Point is not easy to get into.
- - -
- Of course.
- The entire application is complicated enough.
- As I witnessed from James.
- :|
- And his Naval Academy dreams.
- ;\
- Jason is such a boss
- How do you manage that?
- D:
- By not being lazy.
- :|
- ;\
- He got a perfect score on his SATs
- Unfortunately, most of us are afflicted with that curse.
- And he didn't even study
- And whoa.
- He took his SAT one time.
- RIGHT after his track meet.
- They had to run into the bus
- And run into the testing room.
- him and two other of his track friends.
- in order to make it to the LAST sat test.
- And he gets a perfects.
- perfect*
- - -
- How do you manage that?
- Well, I'm just surprised he's not valedictorian.
- :|
- ;\
- He took IB and AP classes.
- And I guess others did better than him.
- I wonder where they got into.
- He didn't even come second.
- and their GPAs there are weighted.
- Well. If he can get a perfect SAT without studying, well...
- I dunno what to say.
- :|
- I am speechless too.
- I am so jealous.
- This is the same kid I grew up with in grade school.
- That he used to copy answers off me when he forgets his homework and he used to do projects for me when I pair up with him.
- Like.
- We scratched eachothers backs all through school.
- He must have an incredible mind...
- One of those hidden genuises.
- I dont know!
- He is so crazy!
- He's not even like that smart.
- I used to teach him things all the time.
- And I taught him how to build computers.
- and We used to fix machines together.
- and he would easily say, I am smarter than him because I would always score higher than him.
- But then he would tease me and say that I am not as fast as him
- D:
- He is 6'3
- Well... Maybe he suddenly changed? Maybe his talend bloomed a little late.
- Lol of course I'm not.
- haha
- *talent
- He was always really talented.
- And I recently met him, he is nothing special.
- :|
- He is just a boss.
- I don't know
- What to say
- I feel jealous
- I could have been him if I had stayed in school over there.
- ;\
- Hm, what's so different about being over here in San Jose?
- I don't know
- T-T
- I got lazy.
- I used to be such a hard worker.
- Then near the end of Sophomore year I stopped.
- :-(
- I used to put so much thought and effort into everything I did.
- Yea... We all kinda... noticed.
- Then I stopped.
- I remember Vinh always asking me...
- "What's happened to Justin?"
- ;[
- :-\
- When was this?
- This year and last year.
- Hmmm.....
- What do I do Andy?
- I'm so lost.
- I can't go back.
- Well, weren't you originally already satisfied with what you already had?
- You just feel this way after you compared yourself to Jason?
- Yes.
- I was originally satisfied.
- But I know that I was better than Jason.
- from 6th grade to 9th grade.
- We used to enter competitions together
- UIL Math and Science.
- And I would always place higher than him.
- In US FIRST
- I was the one doing the programming while he was the one welding the robot.
- Everything
- ;\
- By only a little
- And to think that he got accepted into the highest performing university in the nation with other universities begging him to come with full ride scholarships...
- I could have competed with that.
- I could have been at that level but I fell short after sophomore year.
- I remember when I came here, near the end of sophomore year I was emailing a US FIRST team director about joining their team, trying to hold onto my competative spirited I had in Texas.
- But once summer hit, I stopped emailing and I never got onto the tema.
- tema*
- team*
- :-\
- It is just an eye opener.
- Disappointment.
- Well, Justin, you're valedictorian. You still hold that incredible mind, and you were satisfied.
- To remind me.
- Of what I could have been, and what I have to do to be at that level.
- But I feel so behind
- Even if I got honors at Davis, or even Valedictorian there, it is nothing compared to West Point.
- Well, honestly, there's nothing we can do about it now. Only to look towards the future and promise that you'll make up for all this disappointment you feel.
- There's not much else we can say or do.
- Yeah...
- How sad...
- You still have that mind.
- That incredible mind.
- Time to use it.
- :]
- I don't think so. It's so buried and lost, and it operates at a sophomore level.
- But it's STILL THERE.
- Sure, it might be a little dusty.
- But brush off the dust, give it a few test runs, and it'll be back and working again.
- Okay...
- Thanks Andy.
- It's not like you lost your intelligence.
- It's still there. You can still use it.
- I don't know what to do. How to remmeber everyday my motives of a Freshman.
- I was so motivated back then.
- Like doing anything less than my best didn't even cross my mind.
- Not studying or not showing up for school was never an option.
- I didn't even know it was an option.
- I didn't htink about it.
- At all.
- Now I do.
- Less than my best.
- Minimum.
- Well, now that you realize this... At least now you'll have the motivation to change.
- 11:05 PM
- Yeah.
- C'mon, cheer up! We're graduating in less than three weeks, and you have a speech to worry about. ;-)
- Okay.
- ;]
- And then we have the rest of our lives to worry about.
- 4 years of undergrad study first, and from there, who knows where we'll go, but for sure, let's promise each other we'll do our best.
- :-D
- 11:17 PM
- Okay.
- I promise. Best is not minimum to get an A.
- Best is best.
- :]
