  1. I'm jealous
  2. Why so?
  3. My best friend.
  4. From Texas
  5. Jason Wilkes.
  6. We used to compete in everything we did.
  7. And?
  8. In math, science, everything
  9. I always scored higher than him, but by very little.
  10. But he made it up
  11. by doing better than me in athletics.
  12. He is going to the Military Academy, West Point with a full ride scholarship.
  13. Whoa.
  14. West Point, that's really, really, reallu hard-core.
  15. *really
  16. Getting in requires so much work...
  17. He got a full ride scholarship from West Point, Annapolis and Rice.
  18. And he didn't even apply to Rice.
  19. He's not even Valedictorian.
  20. Well, to be honest, going to any military academy is free.
  21. :|
  22. He is such a beast.
  23. D:
  24. But Rice is not free.
  25. o o;
  26. And the West Point is not easy to get into.
  27. - -
  28. Of course.
  29. The entire application is complicated enough.
  30. As I witnessed from James.
  31. :|
  32. And his Naval Academy dreams.
  33. ;\
  34. Jason is such a boss
  35. How do you manage that?
  36. D:
  37. By not being lazy.
  38. :|
  39. ;\
  40. He got a perfect score on his SATs
  41. Unfortunately, most of us are afflicted with that curse.
  42. And he didn't even study
  43. And whoa.
  44. He took his SAT one time.
  45. RIGHT after his track meet.
  46. They had to run into the bus
  47. And run into the testing room.
  48. him and two other of his track friends.
  49. in order to make it to the LAST sat test.
  50. And he gets a perfects.
  51. perfect*
  52. - -
  53. How do you manage that?
  54. Well, I'm just surprised he's not valedictorian.
  55. :|
  56. ;\
  57. He took IB and AP classes.
  58. And I guess others did better than him.
  59. I wonder where they got into.
  60. He didn't even come second.
  61. and their GPAs there are weighted.
  62. Well. If he can get a perfect SAT without studying, well...
  63. I dunno what to say.
  64. :|
  65. I am speechless too.
  66. I am so jealous.
  67. This is the same kid I grew up with in grade school.
  68. That he used to copy answers off me when he forgets his homework and he used to do projects for me when I pair up with him.
  69. Like.
  70. We scratched eachothers backs all through school.
  71. He must have an incredible mind...
  72. One of those hidden genuises.
  73. I dont know!
  74. He is so crazy!
  75. He's not even like that smart.
  76. I used to teach him things all the time.
  77. And I taught him how to build computers.
  78. and We used to fix machines together.
  79. and he would easily say, I am smarter than him because I would always score higher than him.
  80. But then he would tease me and say that I am not as fast as him
  81. D:
  82. He is 6'3
  83. Well... Maybe he suddenly changed? Maybe his talend bloomed a little late.
  84. Lol of course I'm not.
  85. haha
  86. *talent
  87. He was always really talented.
  88. And I recently met him, he is nothing special.
  89. :|
  90. He is just a boss.
  91. I don't know
  92. What to say
  93. I feel jealous
  94. I could have been him if I had stayed in school over there.
  95. ;\
  96. Hm, what's so different about being over here in San Jose?
  97. I don't know
  98. T-T
  99. I got lazy.
  100. I used to be such a hard worker.
  101. Then near the end of Sophomore year I stopped.
  102. :-(
  103. I used to put so much thought and effort into everything I did.
  104. Yea... We all kinda... noticed.
  105. Then I stopped.
  106. I remember Vinh always asking me...
  107. "What's happened to Justin?"
  108. ;[
  109. :-\
  110. When was this?
  111. This year and last year.
  112. Hmmm.....
  113. What do I do Andy?
  114. I'm so lost.
  115. I can't go back.
  116. Well, weren't you originally already satisfied with what you already had?
  117. You just feel this way after you compared yourself to Jason?
  118. Yes.
  119. I was originally satisfied.
  120. But I know that I was better than Jason.
  121. from 6th grade to 9th grade.
  122. We used to enter competitions together
  123. UIL Math and Science.
  124. And I would always place higher than him.
  125. In US FIRST
  126. I was the one doing the programming while he was the one welding the robot.
  127. Everything
  128. ;\
  129. By only a little
  130. And to think that he got accepted into the highest performing university in the nation with other universities begging him to come with full ride scholarships...
  131. I could have competed with that.
  132. I could have been at that level but I fell short after sophomore year.
  133. I remember when I came here, near the end of sophomore year I was emailing a US FIRST team director about joining their team, trying to hold onto my competative spirited I had in Texas.
  134. But once summer hit, I stopped emailing and I never got onto the tema.
  135. tema*
  136. team*
  137. :-\
  138. It is just an eye opener.
  139. Disappointment.
  140. Well, Justin, you're valedictorian. You still hold that incredible mind, and you were satisfied.
  141. To remind me.
  142. Of what I could have been, and what I have to do to be at that level.
  143. But I feel so behind
  144. Even if I got honors at Davis, or even Valedictorian there, it is nothing compared to West Point.
  145. Well, honestly, there's nothing we can do about it now. Only to look towards the future and promise that you'll make up for all this disappointment you feel.
  146. There's not much else we can say or do.
  147. Yeah...
  148. How sad...
  149. You still have that mind.
  150. That incredible mind.
  151. Time to use it.
  152. :]
  153. I don't think so. It's so buried and lost, and it operates at a sophomore level.
  154. But it's STILL THERE.
  155. Sure, it might be a little dusty.
  156. But brush off the dust, give it a few test runs, and it'll be back and working again.
  157. Okay...
  158. Thanks Andy.
  159. It's not like you lost your intelligence.
  160. It's still there. You can still use it.
  161. I don't know what to do. How to remmeber everyday my motives of a Freshman.
  162. I was so motivated back then.
  163. Like doing anything less than my best didn't even cross my mind.
  164. Not studying or not showing up for school was never an option.
  165. I didn't even know it was an option.
  166. I didn't htink about it.
  167. At all.
  168. Now I do.
  169. Less than my best.
  170. Minimum.
  171. Well, now that you realize this... At least now you'll have the motivation to change.
  172. 11:05 PM
  173. Yeah.
  174. C'mon, cheer up! We're graduating in less than three weeks, and you have a speech to worry about. ;-)
  175. Okay.
  176. ;]
  177. And then we have the rest of our lives to worry about.
  178. 4 years of undergrad study first, and from there, who knows where we'll go, but for sure, let's promise each other we'll do our best.
  179. :-D
  180. 11:17 PM
  181. Okay.
  182. I promise. Best is not minimum to get an A.
  183. Best is best.
  184. :]
