- introductory info: little 16-page zine planned, i wouldn’t make any money. full of instructional content, images from community to illustrate what i’m talking about. each issue would be small in scale so they’re realistic-ish to get released - so maybe not every style you see below will be covered, but at least *some* will get put out. because of the nature of a new style every issue, i’m aiming this mostly at newbies to each fashion at hand (though of course i want it to be interesting to the seasoned crowd as well!). maybe the kind of thing you could give someone when they first ask about jfash or a particular fashion.
- i’d like to have the first zine be a sort of “intro to jfashion.” this would be a “pilot” - or issue #00, just to play around with the format and see how it goes. here is the skeleton outline.
- cover page
- 1. about this zine
- 2. about cont.
- 3. a short history of j-fashion
- 4. history cont.
- 5. vocabulary
- 6. vocab cont.
- 7. j-fashion vs cosplay
- 8. find your comm
- 9. buyers guide -secondhand
- 10. buyers guide - new
- 11. movies
- 12. music
- 13. resources
- 14. resources cont
- back cover (special thanks, etc!)
- my plan is to have each short zine tackle a different style. however due to the sheer number and prevalence of lolita styles i think every other issue will be a lolita substyle, so for example the schedule could be: intro to jfashion, intro to lolita, fairy kei, sweet lolita, decora, gothic lolita, gyaru, classic lolita… so on and so forth. not married to that idea, let me know what you think?
- here are the styles/fashions/issues i have listed (in no particular order). i know we love to argue about semantics on this board but let’s try to keep that to a minimum. but do let me know what you think or if there’s anything that needs to be changed!
- * fairy kei/yume kawaii/etc
- * decora kei
- * visual kei
- * mori kei
- * otome etc
- * gyaru
- * yami kawaii/menhera/all those “sickly cute” styles
- * nanchatte
- * cult party kei
- * intro to lolita
- * gothic
- * sweet
- * classic
- * punk
- * ott sweet
- * hime
- * wa and qi
- * monochrome (shiro, kuro, etc)
- * ouji
- * bittersweet
- * old school
- as for the structure, most of each zine would be dedicated to the style at hand. some examples of common sections might include:
- * history
- * diys
- * common mistakes/do’s and don’ts
- * terminology
- * shops
- * hair and makeup
- i also want to have a “media” section in each of music/movies/etc.
- if this gets a positive response, expect some written-out articles for issue #00 in the near future.
