  28. [19:08] Silence The skies above Haven are light up with Aurora light shows as the radiation wave caused by Hrang is intercepted by vast array of forts with extanding fortress shields
  29. [19:09] Silence along with other facuilities in the way of the wave as well, system traffic is limited as nobody wants to be out in the current wavefront as it goes through space
  30. [19:10] Silence in other news a siege like mentality has settled on the Fraztier starway
  31. [19:11] Silence no ships have been seen leaving, and there are two numbered fleets waiting at the opposite end of the starway ready to intercept anything
  32. [19:12] Silence Meanwhile across the Republic there has been some local rebellions against the new order, mostly on planets that didn't have heavy military presence, though the arrival of cruiser group in orbit soon saw them queitly backing down
  33. [19:12] Silence and Haven itself been under martial law since the coup
  34. [19:12] Silence News from the front in the Rift has been sketchy, the Empire has imposed tight border controls citing the rise of chaos and rebels along its border in former Jardin space
  35. [19:13] Silence and sizeable amount of ships are now chassing another Hrang sighting, a new heavy battlewagon remiscant of the one spotted during the pirate's war in the Rift to nickaamed Fat Doom has a sister apparenlty out there raiding naval bases before dropping back into stealth
  36. [19:14] Silence the more ominious problem with the pirate mothership is not its existence but the fact its equpied with plasma cannon
  37. [19:14] Desmond Hrang is throwing her weight around I see
  38. [19:15] Silence The more pressing matter is that its the Empress's birthday and you two have been invited to embassy to celeberate
  39. [19:16] Montfort Well Desmond will have to arrive first as I've got to take dinner outta the oven real fast.

  48. [19:21] Silence inside past the Guardsmen at the doors, servants in silver dyed hair and maid uniforms pass out drinks and appitizers on plates to the assembled crowd, which is mostly military
  49. [19:22] Aurora_ACO-K "I thought they whole silver hair thing was over with"

  54. [19:23] Silence says the ambassador as he glides up to Desmond and grabs his hand and kisses it and shakes Aurora
  55. [19:23] Silence "Welcome welcome!~"
  56. [19:24] Silence "I am so glad that such an august figure such as the First Minister himself is here, its proof that we can hopefully put aside our differences and work together in peace."
  57. [19:24] Aurora_ACO-K "Uh. . thanks"
  58. [19:24] Desmond "Hello, ambassador. Impressive as always, I see."

  72. [19:30] Aurora_ACO-K frowns

  132. [19:48] Silence "Of course, of course"
  133. [19:48] Aurora_ACO-K "that's awfully expensive wine. Are you sure you should be drinking it?"
  134. [19:49] Desmond "Oh, I'll put it into my collection for the moment. They will be the stars of it, for sure, but my family is old money. I've had opportunities to indulge in expensive hobbies like these."
  135. [19:49] Aurora_ACO-K "huh."
  136. [19:50] Silence "The Empire of course offers condolence of your suffering another outbreak of the dread pirate Hrang again."
  137. [19:50] Aurora_ACO-K "Rich people never cease to amaze me."
  138. [19:50] Desmond "Not quite this expensive, but nevertheless. Things like that can come in quite handy in high society, even if you never intend to drink one."
  139. [19:51] Desmond "Consider it half hobby and half a kind of social currency."
  140. [19:51] Montfort "It's nothing to worry about, Ambassador. Your empress wouldn't let pirates spoil the occasion, would she?"
  141. [19:52] Aurora_ACO-K "Conspicuous consumption eh"
  142. [19:52] Silence "Of course not, we have the finest imperial guards securing the internal security this embassy, and you so have conveintly parked an entire naval infantry regitment on our walls."
  143. [19:52] Aurora_ACO-K "The Ventris set tend to go more for ornate scrimshaw on their guns and swords."

  156. [19:57] Aurora_ACO-K "Yeah, they're pretty . . . rough on Ventris"
  157. [19:57] Aurora_ACO-K "The queen deals with the entertaining though."
  158. [19:57] Desmond "In truth I never really liked it either, but being born in a rich family does bring certain social obligations. Joining the Navy was something of a relief in that regard, I suppose."

  168. [20:01] Desmond takes off somewhere. Got to make some arrangements re: wine transportation, after all, can't exactly walk away with this in a handbag!

  282. [21:15] Silence "Well if I am to believe the broadcasts, those people don't matter. Only a enlightened few do these days."
  283. [21:18] Montfort "Tell your Empress I wish for her birthday I could send her councillors less eager to see her wedding pyre."

  348. [21:56] Desmond stands, flag of the Jardin Republic in the background
  349. [21:56] Silence https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRI5eWWZIpo
  350. [21:56] Desmond "People of the Jardin Republic."
  351. [21:56] Desmond "My fellow citizens."
  352. [21:58] Desmond "I speak to you today not just as the First Minister of the Jardin Republic, but also as just another of its people, and as someone who has swore an oath to defend it and its ideals with his life."
  353. [21:59] Desmond "We are now facing a grave situation within our nation. That much is, I think, clear to all of us."
  354. [22:00] Desmond "A coup, one after another. A secession. Corruption, invaders from another galaxy, enemies from within and without. It is no exaggeration to say that the fate of the nation itself is at stake."
  355. [22:02] Desmond "However, what I asked myself - what I think all of us need to ask ourselves - is how we plan to deal with it? How we have been dealing with it?"
  356. [22:03] Desmond "People of Jardin. I, above all things, love this nation, and love those who live within it. And, of course, love its ideals. That is why I joined the military, to, if needed, lay down my life so that these ideals and these people could thrive."
  357. [22:03] Desmond "But what do I see now?"
  358. [22:04] Desmond "I see people within the Republic, even those who have swore the same oaths as I did, people I knew, or thought I did, tossing them away."
  359. [22:05] Desmond "Discarding things like 'democracy' or 'constitution' as inconveniences."
  360. [22:05] Desmond "People of Jardin! We are not weak! We are strong, stronger than anyone else in the galaxy!"
  361. [22:07] Desmond "We are not so weak that we should think that discarding the things that are the cornerstones of our society, the things that our forefathers gave their lives to create and that generations have defended, are something that we should discard at a moment's notice as mere inconveniences!"
  362. [22:08] Desmond "What I am seeing is people willing to trample on the very soul of our nation, the very thing that made us great, because someone tells them that this is going to make things 'easier'."
  363. [22:08] Desmond "But it won't."
  364. [22:09] Desmond "These are the very things that made us great in the first place. If we discard them, if we abandon the constitution, abandon the democratic system, turn into another oligarchy - we would kill Jardin."
  365. [22:10] Desmond "How many of you are willing to stain your hands with the blood of an entire nation as you rip out its heart?"
  366. [22:10] Desmond "We are now in an age where we are fighting for the very soul of humanity. The very right to say 'no' ever again!"
  367. [22:11] Desmond "We absolutely cannot allow ourselves to take a step back, because if we put on chains on ourselves, we might find out tomorrow that these chains will never come off."
  368. [22:14] Desmond "I thought about this, but in the end, I think I still cannot call the leaders of the coup that now reside on Haven an 'enemy'. They are just Jardini, like me and you."
  369. [22:15] Desmond "Ones who, perhaps, have convinced themselves into believing that they are doing something to help save the nation in great need."
  370. [22:17] Desmond "But the true enemy is the age that we live in."
  371. [22:18] Desmond "The age where the conflict is not waged by just fleets, but by infectious ideas, ideas that can put a man in chains against their will. Ideas that we try to fight, but it is so very hard, and it is so easy to feel like you ran out of options. Like you have no choice, no ability to change anything."
  372. [22:19] Desmond "So easy to follow someone who says that he has a solution, that he can offer a salvation, that if you only rally under their banner, the future that awaits you is not that of another brain-burned slave that lives or dies by their master's whims."
  373. [22:20] Desmond "It is a sickness, a sickness of frustration, of desperation, of seeing ashes slip through your fingers and searching for a way - any way - to stop it."
  374. [22:21] Desmond "I should know. I felt it myself. I saw reports that I was unable to act on, paths that felt oh so tempting, like poisoned fruit, promising that if only I had the power - if only I claimed the power! - I could fix it all."
  375. [22:22] Desmond "I saw reports about what the La'Vinne corporation is preparing. A plan to, once and for all, end free will within Jardin. To, once and for all, take away our ability to say 'no' ever again."
  376. [22:23] Desmond "But there were barriers, systems put in place by the very people who would centuries later abuse them, that could not be simply overcome... unless one claimed power."
  377. [22:24] Desmond "But! People of Jardin!"
  378. [22:25] Desmond "This is just that - a poisoned fruit. A solution that will be our undoing! A promise of being saved from slavery by putting on another set of chains!"
  379. [22:25] Desmond "But we are Jardini! We do not put on chains! Not in the past! Not in the future! And certainly not now!"
  380. [22:26] Desmond "I did not pick that path because I love this nation. I love Jardin, and I love the ideals that make us who we are. People who are strong enough to not abandon our ideals at a whim! People who are strong enough to win on their own terms!"
  381. [22:28] Desmond "And I refuse to surrender. I refuse to surrender to frustration, to desperation, to despair. We will fight this menace, and we will prevail against the monstrous age that we are now in - and we will do so as free human beings!"
  382. [22:28] Desmond "People who are allowed to say 'no'. Who are /able/ to say 'no'."
  383. [22:29] Desmond "We will not take the step backwards off a cliff. We will not surrender the ideals that this nation was founded upon. We will win!"
  384. [22:29] Desmond "Even if it costs us."
  385. [22:30] Desmond "I ask this of you, people of Jardin - do not submit. Defend what is right, what is beautiful about our nation, and which the sacrifices of our ancestors have built."
  386. [22:31] Desmond "And to my fellow soldiers - remember the oaths that you have taken. Remember what you swore to protect with your lives, and why you chose to protect it, and against what."
  387. [22:32] Desmond "This is the point where Jardin as we knew it will either live or die."
  388. [22:32] Desmond "It is now up to you to pick which one it will be."
  389. [22:32] Desmond "Because you are Jardini. You are free. You have the right to say 'no' or 'yes'."
  390. [22:33] Desmond "It is time to decide."
  391. [22:35] Aurora_ACO-K looks at the talk show host as the repeaters suddenly return to normal. "I'm not a citizen but if I was you, I'd be out picketing the Blue House to get him reinstated as First Minister."
  392. [22:35] Desmond d11
