  1. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga Any%-J FAQ
  2.
  3. Q: Are you playing on an emulator?
  4. A: No. I am playing on a Gameboy Player (Gamecube) with a Japanese cartridge.
  5.
  6. Q: Why are you grabbing so many items?
  7. A: I need mushrooms to powerup the Mush Badge. Other items are collected to sell later.
  8.
  9. Q: How does the Mush Badge work?
  10. A: The Mush Badge adds a flat damage amount to attacks (rounded down) based on the number of mushrooms in my inventory. The damage bonus from the Mush Badge is added after the attack damage is calculated. The amount added varies depending on the type of mushroom and the game version.

  13. JAPANESE
  14. 0.078 - Mushroom
  15. 0.098 - Super Mushroom
  16. 0.117 - Ultra Mushroom
  17. 0.199 - Max Mushroom

  19. ENGLISH
  20. 0.199 - Mushroom & Super Mushroom
  21. 0.250 - Ultra Mushroom
  22. 0.299 - Max Mushroom
  23.
  24. At the end of the game I want to have at least 85 Mushrooms, 2 Super Mushrooms, and 2 Ultra Mushrooms. This totals up to 7.06 bonus damage, allowing me to do 9 damage per attack at minimum. This is very important for attacks that allow me to hit multiple times, such as Chopper Bros.
  25.
  26.
  27. Q: Why don't you run away from encounters?
  28. A: Running away loses a lot of money. I would not get enough mushrooms to fight Cackletta if I ran away from fights.
  29.
  30. Q: Why do you run the Japanese version?
  31. A: Barrel clipping does not work in the English version, which is needed to skip large portions of the game. The skips in the Japanese version save over two hours compared to the English version. I will sometimes do speedruns of the English version, but I primarily run the Japanese version.
  32.
  33. Q: Why do you need to farm Knockback Bros?
  34. A: The advanced version of Knockback Bros is an infinite combo and is required to defeat Cackletta in any reasonable amount of time. 43 successful uses of Knockback Bros unlocks the advanced version.
  35.
  36. Q: What the hell just happened to the screen?
  37. A: This is a side effect of the Selected Action Command Glitch.
  38.
  39. Q: What is the Selected Action Command Glitch?
  40. A: This glitch allows me to manipulate action commands to assign any action, including non-standard actions, to Mario or Luigi. This allows me to store barrel commands on Mario without having a barrel as well as setting up Luigi Hat Clips.
  41.
  42. Q: How do I perform these glitches?
  43. A: I have some tutorials on my Youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/altabiscuit
