BACKGROUND :
 → kang yoona was born in daegu, south korea, to a magical mother and a muggle father. she was the youngest in a set of twins, born barely two minutes apart from her sister, yeonjung. her parents had only been expecting one child, and were extremely surprised to find out they were expecting twins. her mother was thrilled, as she'd always secretly wanted a set of twin girls. her father, however, was not very happy, and it was the beginning of the strain put on her parents' relationship. by the time yoona was two years old, it became clear that yeonjung was going to be the favoured twin, as all their relatives and other people tended to fuss over yeonjung and give her all the attention, while yoona would be laying only a few feet away in her own cot. ever since a young age, yoona was pushed into the shadow of her twin, so it's all she's known for the majority of her life. yoona found out about magic pretty early in her life, but it was this discovery that tore her parents apart. as her father was a muggle, he didn't know about the magical world, and her mother had never actually gotten around to telling him about it's existence, even seven years down the track after being married. their mother was going to keep it a secret until the twins got their hogwarts letters, and find someway to break it to her husband then, and hope that he wouldn't react badly to it. however, this plan went straight out the window when yoona was six, and somehow managed to change her hair colour to match the wallpaper on the living room wall. at first, her mother had just assumed it was accidental magic, and had kept yoona home from school that day to avoid the teachers asking questions, and luckily, her father was on a business trip at the time. however, when yoona had managed to change her hair to match the wallpaper in every room of the house within the space of three days, her mother put two and two together and realised that her youngest daughter was a metamorphmagus, and that yoona had inherited the gene that had apparently skipped her mother and her twin sister. at that point, her mother had no choice but to sit down and explain everything to them. the twins took it quite well, both becoming excited about the world they'd soon be old enough to join. their father didn't take it very well, and accused their mother of being a liar, and they got into a massive fight that night, with their father claiming their marriage had been based on lies. by the end of the week, the man had moved out and had was filing for a divorce. this took a lot out of the small family, and the twins' mother had been rather upset about how things had ended up, but knew she had to be strong for her daughter's who were the most important thing in her life. they managed to make do on their own as a family of three, and carry on their lives without their father present, having had no contact with the man since the divorce. since she knew about magic prior to her acceptance to hogwarts, yoona wasn't too surprised when her hogwarts letter arrived. both her and her sister were extremely excited, and had been expecting to be sorted into the same house. however, it came as a big surprise when yeonjung was sorted into ravenclaw, and yoona somehow ended up in gryffindor (she wasn't sure which was more surprising, the fact that they were in separate houses, or the fact that she was in gryffindor). however, despite being in different houses, it seemed that yoona was constantly going to be pushed back into yeonjung's shadow. however, despite constantly being compared to her twin and being the "forgotten" one, yoona doesn't harbour any obvious ill feelings towards yeonjung, and is still really close to her, instead choosing to bury any negative thoughts towards her down deep.

PERSONALITY :
 → if there is one thing you can say about kang yoona, it is that she is quiet. she is the type of person that most people tend to not notice, and she may as well be invisible half of the time. she is extremely quiet, and you probably wouldn't even notice if she was standing next to you until she chooses to speak out. she is usually under the radar, and has grown used to it, since she's constantly been pushed into the shadow of her twin sister. she is a shy person, and tends to clam up around people she doesn't know, being extremely careful over what she says to other people, in fear of her words being used against her. she's grown up her entire life being second best, so it is no surprise that her self esteem is so low, to the point where she sees herself as almost worthless compared to her sister. because of her closed off and quiet nature, she's probably the most difficult of the girls to approach, because she isn't very good at carrying on conversations (probably because she's always been used to yeonjung being the one with all the attention, and just let her twin talk instead). her social skills aren't very good when you compare them to other people, and she tends to get flustered and embarrassed extremely easily. she doesn't really have many friends, because it takes people a while to fully break through her walls, and due to her naturally quite nature, people usually give up after a while. it takes her a long time to fully open up to people and actually consider them friends, so she thinks that the other students are more of acquaintances than they are friends to her. growing up in yeonjung's shadow has done serious damage to yoona's self esteem, and she has an intense inferiority complex. she's always seen herself as inferior to her sister, as anything she did, yeonjung could do better. due this mindset that yoona's grown up with, she has trouble taking compliments of any kind. she views herself as inferior to the point where she struggles to see her own worth. if you were to try and compliment her, she will come up with about a hundred reasons on why she cannot be complimented, and will refuse to believe whatever she's been told, because whatever she's done has never really been good enough, at least, not compared to yeonjung. yet despite this, she's always there to make other people feel better, and point out all the good things in life to them. if there is one thing the people closest to her know, it is that yoona is extremely good at making people feel better. her close friends always go straight to her whenever they have problems or just feel like having a good cry, because yoona will sit there and listen, and always make them feel better. she might not necessarily be the best at solving their problems, but she's always there to tell them their worth it, but in reality, yoona is the one who needs to hear that more than anyone else. yoona has the ability to always find the good in people - she could probably even find something good to say about lord voldemort if she wanted to - but she has trouble seeing the good things about herself, as has a habit of constantly putting herself down. she can find the smallest faults in everything that she does, and rarely ever allows herself to be happy with her achievements, always feeling the need to do better, simply because she wants to make her mother and sister proud (and because she wants to beat her sister at something for once in their lives). she isn't exactly the type of person who is up to date with everything, and is usually left out of the loop when it comes to the gossip that goes around the castle, usually having to be filled in about six months later by her sister and her friends ("wait, i thought they broke up" "that was before the holidays, yoona. they hooked up again over the break, but now they broke up again. where have you been living the past six months?"). she also has a habit of accidentally sneaking up on people and appearing out of nowhere. people don't often notice her presence when she's right next to them until she speaks up or makes herself known, so she usually tends to just appear out of nowhere and scare the life out of the other people, which has almost gotten her hexed on multiple occasions ("holy shit yoona don't do that!" "i'm sorry i'm sorry please don't hex me"). really, she is just an innocent smol bean who deep down just wants someone to appreciate her and treat her as if she's important. she's lived in yeonjung's shadow her whole life, so it's hard for her to actually believe it when people try and make her feel important. she actually harbours negative feelings towards yeonjung from the way they've been brought up, because as much as she hates to admit it, she doesn't like to feel like the pathetic twin, and just once would like people to pay attention to her instead of yeonjung. however, yoona always feels bad about these feelings, and tends to internally beat herself up about it, because she's still incredibly close with yeonjung, and while her sister might be the twin who's always in the spotlight, she does make an effort to try and help yoona come out of her shell a little bit.

QUIDDITCH :
 → yoona doesn't really care much for quidditch, and she doesn't play, because she is terrified of heights, and thinks that it is dangerous to play a sport that includes flying around on brooms fifty feet off the ground. so she doesn't really follow quidditch that much, but she does support her house team (gryffindor pride and all that), but she only really goes to the important matches of the year, and doesn't make an effort to attend every single game (she usually ends up being dragged by her sister or some of the other gryffindors). basically, she wants gryffindor to win, but she doesn't really care if they lose either, and doesn't particularly like going to games.

BEST SUBJECT :
 → ancient runes - she's good at this because it is basically like learning another language, and she's always wanted to learn to speak another language (hence why she's trying to teach herself japanese). it is also one of the few classes that her sister doesn't take, so yoona feels more relaxed, because no one can compare her to yeonjung.
 → potions - yoona is also rather good at potions, because she finds it fascinating how mixing certain ingredients can have different effects. she also finds it rather similar to muggle chemistry, which is something she's found interested and likes reading up on in her spare time she's definitely in the top ten students at the subject (and unbeknownst to her, she's actually beating her twin sister).

WORST SUBJECT :
 → defence against the dark arts - yoona's always been a passive person, and she doesn't openly like duelling or anything of the sort. she's actually not too bad at the written side of the subject, but she sucks at the practice side, as she never really seems to have proper control over the defensive spells (probably because there's a small part of her that's scared to actually use them). also, defence against the dark arts happens to be one of yeonjung's best subjects, so yoona feels even worse when the professor mentions that her sister is one of the top students.

  ◦ the deer represents gentleness, kindness, gracefulness and innocence, which are four words that basically sum yoona up. she is always kind, and always goes out of her way to make sure others are okay. she manages to find the best in even the worst of people, and has an air of innocence about her that hasn't been tainted, and she would much rather remain a child than have to grow up, hence why her patrons takes the form of a fawn instead of a fully grown doe. as well as this, yoona seems to have a bit of a natural 'deer in the headlights" look on her face quite often.

  ◦ the lynx represents secrets and the hidden, which is sort of fitting, because not a lot of people know much about yoona, because she's constantly hidden in her sister's shadow. so the lynx sort of fits with her personality, because she's always been a bit of an enigma to other people, and they don't really know much about her, usually just assuming that she's like her sister.

OTHER :
 → METAMORPHMAGUS - she inherited the gene from her maternal grandmother, who too was a metamorphmagus. however, the gene had skipped her mother, so they were a bit surprised when their youngest daughter had a habit of changing her hair colour all the time to blend in with the other colours around the house. yoona's sister, however, does not have the ability, and yoona is the only one who inherited it. she knows how to control it, but she sometimes changes her eye colour, and usually has her hair a shade of brown, just to differentiate between her and her sister, so people don't get them mixed up. (she's only started doing this recently though, because before that people would continually come up to her and mistake her for yeonjung).

PERSONALITY :
 → at a glance, it becomes quite clear that jung hoseok is the opposite of calm and collected. he is a major hyperactive fluff ball, and seems to have more energy than he knows what to do with, constantly moving in someway. he cannot sit still, and is the type of person you don't want to sit net to during a test because he'll be constantly tapping his foot against the ground or the edge of his quill against his piece of parchment. he is honestly just a ball of sunshine, who is constantly smiling at other people, and always stopping to greet other people. the students often wonder how a person like him came to be friends with the rest of bangtan, because he honestly doesn't look like the sort of person to get wrapped up in all of the trouble that they cause. he is a very friendly person, and doesn't usually have any problems talking to other students. but true to his house, he is insanely loyal to those he's closest to, and if you get on the wrong side of him or someone he loves, there will be hell to pay, and he will get back at them (with the help of the rest of bangtan). it is also common knowledge around the castle that he is a really good dancer, even if he doesn't like to show off his dance skills (or show off anything, really, because he's a rather humble person. most of the time).

HOW DID THEY MEET :
 → they first met when he all but cornered yoona just outside the great hall, as he was trying to chat her up with a really pathetic pickup line, because he had mistaken her for yeonjung. yoona had stared at him for a moment, wondering why he was using the pickup line on her, before it registered that he though she was yeonjung. she had to tell him he had the wrong twin, which only made the situation a whole lot more awkward. yoona knew who he was because she'd heard of him, but she'd never actually spoken to him, and eventually took pity on him, pointing out her sister, who was still sitting at the ravvenclaw table with her friends. she then left him on his own to go and talk to her, pretending not to be upset and annoyed that once against yeonjung was the one that people wanted to talk to.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS :

HOW DOES HE ACT AROUND HER :
 → he was sort of embarrassed around her at first (for like the first half an hour, let's be real) because he'd mistook her for yeonjung on multiple occasions and tried to flirt with her. however, he was quick to get over his embarrassment over the whole thing, and was just his bubbly and normal self. he knew who yoona was, of course, since people did talk about her sometimes, usually only referring to her as yeonjung's sister, but he realised he knew almost nothing about her, and that didn't really sit well with him. the first thing he did, though, was ask yoona to help him score a date with her sister (probably a bit of a dick move when he thinks back on it), because he figured it was a win-win situation, he had a better chance with yeonjung, and he could use it as an excuse to talk to yoona. and lucky for him, they're both assigned on the team to represent hogwarts in the inter school competition, giving him even more of a reason to talk to her. it doesn't take him very long to figure out about her inferiority complex and how she never seems to take compliments, and he's not surprised given how she's always pushed into yeonjung's shadow, so he takes it upon himself to do what she does for everyone else - prove that she's just as good as anyone else and that she's beautiful inside and out.
 → since he knows about her inferiority complex, he's taken to leaving notes for her with compliments written on them, and isn't disheartened in the slightest when she keeps throwing them out and asking him to stop, coming up with faults in herself. he is determined to show her that she's worth it, even if it takes him a bit of time. it isn't until halfway through the competition though that he begins to feel conflicted about his feelings, because suddenly yeonjung doesn't seem that great anymore, and he doesn't really want to date her. it takes him a while to realise why, and when he does it hits him like a splash of cold water, because holy shit he might sort of like yoona and not yeonjung, but he's spent the past year and a bit trying to get her to set him up with his twin sister and it's probably the most ridiculous thing he's ever done and now he doesn't know how to fix it. so naturally, he goes to the rest of bangtan who are all absolutely no help, as the maknae line just laugh at him, and his hyungs, well they're not much help either, and look like they're trying not to laugh just for his sake. he intends to keep it to himself until he can figure out what to do, but things don't really go his way because he let's it slip when they're studying in the library. since yoona had exams coming up she was stressing gout and was starting to get annoyed, and snapped at him and told him to go and pester yeonjung instead since she's the one he wants to date. however, before he can stop himself he says something along the lines of "i don't want to date yeonjung i want to date you." and when he realises what he said all he can think is shit shit shit. but hey, at least he managed to admit that he liked her, right?

HOW DOES SHE ACT AROUND HIM :
 → at first, she doesn't really think much of him. she's met him on the occasion, usually because he mistakes her for her twin sister, and she knows he really likes yeonjung, so she's basically just added him to the list of guys who have a crush on yeonjung (because yoona has been mistaken for her sister on numerous occasions, some more awkward than others). so naturally, she kind of just expects them to kind of just continue on their normal lives and not interact with each other. she's actually rather surprised when he asks her for help getting with her sister, and doesn't really knows what to say because a) she doesn't know much about setting people up, and b) it's her sister and she's supposed to fight off all the idiots and jerks who try and get with her sister. in the end she says she'll put a good word in for him, which makes him really happy. she doesn't really think they're going to have much further interactions after that, but then they end up in a team to represent hogwarts in an international tournament, so yoona finds herself spending a lot more time with him planning for the tournament (which she did not sign up for in the first place, and honestly tried everything she could to get out of it), and sort of feels slightly awkward about it, since he's interested in yeonjung.
 → after spending so much time with him, she slowly starts to enjoy his company, and actually believes she wouldn't mind having him in her life. she's actually surprised that he enjoys spending so much time with her, as he keeps coming up to her in the library, or when she's studying out near the black lake, and is even more surprised by the fact that he's choosing to do it when he knows it is her and not yeonjung, yet he still wants to keep her company. she's actually beginning to consider him a friend, and might even think about considering him as something more if it weren't for the fact that she knows he's interested in yeonjung. of course, this complicates things, and yoona feels bad, because she's determined not to turn this into some sort of love triangle mess, and she knows she has no chance if she has to compete against her sister anyway, but at the same time she really likes him and want him to stay part of her life, even though he's a year younger than her, and he's probably the closest friend she has and she really does not want to lose him to yeonjung. in the end, she's trying to repress her feelings for him because she doesn't want to get hurt, because she knows it's inevitable.

RELATIONSHIP :
 → their relationship is kind of complicated, since the first time they met, he thought that yoona was her twin sister, and it was clear from the very beginning that he was interested in yeonjung. however, the more time she spent with him, yoona kind of realises that she might like him a little bit (but she won't admit this to anyone). he's just really confused because he was hard crushing on yeonjung but now he's besties with yoona and holy shit has he always been this attracted to yoona? and then he has to accidentally go and blurt it out to yoona that he'd much rather date her. whoops.

 → yoona eyeing a really nice piece of jewellery that goes with the bracelet her mother gave her, and hoseok/jimin noticing it, and going back to buy it for her when she goes to the bathroom to give to her for her birthday, and she's just so touched that she starts crying and he freaks out because he thinks he made her upset
 → some massive prank war between them or something but things go horrible wrong and they almost blow up a school other or something and end up in detention (but teachers obviously didn't learn their lesson because they put all fourteen of them in the same detention)
