  9. The speech given yesterday by J. D. Vance at Munich is one for the annals. He dropped with the weight of an asteroid the news about the change of the consensus of power*. Together with Milei's speech last year at Davos*, something like that hasn't been heard in Atlantia probably from the time when Havel wrote 'The power of the powerless'. What we could already suspect from previous stances, now has been confirmed: the USA left the EU to float freely and now they are on a collision course. But it is not about the political themes of the speech that I want to talk today.
  10.
  11. Until yesterday's speech, I couldn't quite make sense of Vance, neither of Trump picking him as running mate. Calculations concerning his young age, military background, his 'self-made man' quality… Etc. Yes, for sure, every single term of the equation makes sense - but they don't quite add up. Now, both problems sort out elegantly, in a simple and coherent solution.
  12.
  13. JD did not speak at Munich for the established powers of Europe, but slapped them, again, and again, and again. Neither did he speak for the opposition, albeit he did mention it. You do not moralize a criminal boss expecting him to straighten up. Likewise, you do not preach to up-and-coming bosses, expecting to squeeze immaculate virtue out of them. JD spoke to us, to the men (women) and the people of Europe, us who lost our liberty to komisars, whose free speech is violated, for whom a 'command democracy' is concocted, in a Europe which resembles more and more to the former soviet camp*, torn apart from its civilizational roots, unraveled by mass migration*. For people who care about 'their homes', 'their dreams', endowed with 'wisdom and a voice', who do not see themselves, 'like in Davos', as 'educable animals' and replaceable 'cogs in the machinery of the global economy'. JD spoke specifically to the Romanian people, whose elections were cancelled in December*, with the premonition of this parlor trick being transformed into a universal recipe. The 'original democracy', as the first post-communist president Iliescu once quipped, turned into an European project - who could have guessed such a thing?...
  14.
  15. Yes, a man calculates, bends to the circumstances, the road presuposes compromise - but what matters is that which animates him. Animus, soul, that which gives life. And now we know that that which animates Vance is fidelity to his own. After his nomination as Trump's running mate, I watched the movie based on his autobiographical book, Hillbilly Elegy. OK, it's the past, and the origins, and the hardships - but only now, after his performance in front of the European snobbery, with their 'old buildings' and 'beautiful hotels', only now did I see that this popular spirit is the center of his being. JD Vance in Munich was like Katniss Everdeen at the Capitol, thumbing her nose at the flimsy fools amusing themselves with Hunger Games… The hillbillies of the Ozarks/Appalachian/Blue Ridge Mountains are like the Romanian mountain peasants from the Sunset Mountains, Motzii (the two areas resembling in terms of geography and landscapes), also called Tara Motzilor or Rocky Country. JD was at Munich like their leader Avram Iancu in 1849, defending his people both with the book of law and with the arms in hands against the Austrian emperor…
  16.
  17. JD has shown us all that education, money and power need not destroy one's character: and this is what makes the difference between the 'elites' and the counter-elite*, between 'proeuropeans' and the rest of us all.
  18.
  19. We also understand now why Trump picked Vance: Vance brigs the native populist legitimacy which Trump does not have. Trump is like Gracchus from Gladiator, 'not a man of the people, but a man for the people'. With his real estate empire which he inherited and grown by himself, Trump cannot be 'of the people'. Yet, with everything he says and does, he is showing us he is a man for the people: while Vance is the seal of authenticity guaranteeing for all of that.
  20.
  21. The ultimate measure of character is loyalty: and loyalty is the value that Trump appreciates most (see and see). Vance loyal to his own means that Vance will be loyal to Trump as well. Even more: Trump must have wished that the loyalty of such a man be extended over in his direction.
  22.
  23. Even for the non-speakers of English, the speech should be watched for its vibe: the satisfaction of seeing a man of one piece, a real man, smacking discoursively a bunch of infantile, effeminate, infatuated snobs. Pistorius, 'war' minister of Germany, after the event: 'not acceptable!' Ha!
  24.
  25. Then, the clip should be well-preserved for today's children for when, and if, the future will have become a European Gulag.
