  1. <Panda> Hmm.
  2. <Panda> What if powers appeared long before the first recorded superhero(s) and Scion's appearance
  3. <Panda> All throughout history there are stories and legends of epic figures
  4. <Panda> What if they all had a shard but in a time where they were mostly alone?
  5. <Panda> Gives the entities information as a control for their experiment
  6. <Teller> Could make for an interesting setting. I don't know if shards would like being alone, though.
  7. <Panda> They see how shards can develop on their own and relatively isolated barring maybe a handful of other shards
  8. <Panda> Then they plant the vast majority of them at a much later date
  9. <Teller> A handful of shards makes more immediate sense to me.
  10. <Panda> I'm slowly conceptualizing a potential WD session
  11. <Panda> The Heracles', the Joan of Arcs, the Robin Hoods, the King Arthurs
  12. <Panda> These massively larger than life figures that have been so distorted that their mythology seems mythical and nearly unbelievable
  13. <Panda> Or to the point where they've been rendered firmly mythological, despite where the source of the stories came from
  14. <Panda> Wheels are still turning, but this is what's in my head right now
  15. <Panda> WD: Age of Myths
  16. <Teller> What part of that would the session focus on?
  17. <Teller> Would players be the mythological figures, or others?
  18. <Panda> I would say Age of Legends, but that brings League of Legends to mind, and I don't wanna disturb that bees nest
  19. <tubes> ree
  20. <Panda> I'm thinking it'd be original characters at some nebulous point in "myth"
  21. <Teller> Evening to you as well, tubes.
  22. <Panda> Hey tubes
  23. <tubes> damn, no capt
  24. <tubes> $seen CaptNameless
  25. <[ATM]> tubes: I saw CaptNameless 18 hours ago, saying 'Goodnight tubes'
  26. <Faustus> rip
  27. <Dolyn> Saff, did you /really/ just say "the delivery girl is cool"?
  28. <Dolyn> I feel like that's just not true.
  29. <Saff|Immy> Imm has no reason to think she's not cool
  30. <Panda> Damn, this is difficult to find a specific time
  31. <Panda> Because it depends on the place too
  32. <OptimusRhyme> Maybe the mythical figures are all something like warlords, then all of a sudden, peasants start triggering out of the blue
  33. <Panda> That's a completely different tone and premise than I was going for
  34. <Faustus> Egypt?
  35. <Panda> But I do like the brainstorming
  36. <Panda> ooh
  37. <Panda> Egypt could work
  38. <Panda> Hmm
  39. <Panda> Thing is
  40. <Panda> Larger than Life figures are kind of... isolated, y'know?
  41. <Panda> Unless they're in conflict with one another
  42. <Faustus> Scandinavia had a lot of them that regularyl hung out
  43. <Panda> And that's the issue I'm trying to work around while preserving the concept
  44. <Faustus> *regularly
  45. <Panda> Are you suggesting to me, WD: Valhalla
  46. <Panda> *squints*
  47. <Faustus> I'm suggesting WD: Vikings and Beowulf and shit
  48. <Panda> That... yes, that was the joke
  49. <Panda> *gentle headpats*
  50. <Dolyn> Panda, I had a thought. I'll PM you.
  51. <Panda> Dope, go for it
  52. <Teller> Things like the Trojan War had various mythological figures throwing down with each other.
  53. <Panda> Oooh

  56. <Faustus> Greece is done so much tbf

  58. <Teller> Also true.
  59. <Panda> Defs
  60. <Faustus> Journey to the West might be an interesting thing to draw from
  61. <Faustus> Odyssey if you feel like sticking with Greece
  62. <Panda> Hmmm
  63. <Panda> Oh hey
  64. <Panda> This reminds me
  65. <OptimusRhyme> Yeah, maybe just increase the scope and decide historical accuracy doesn't matter. Julius Caesar is trying to take over the world. King Arthur, and Joan of Arc and Liu Bei and King Tut etc are all massively powerful metas leading their people, trying to stop him.
  66. <Panda> How did we refine the draft process?
  67. <Panda> Haha
  68. <Faustus> Vern did WD Hundred Year War
  69. <Teller> The draft process has been taken in a few different directions. The latest one I'm aware of is what Anti did in Indianapolis.
  70. <OptimusRhyme> It's a world war, so the PC's can feasibly move all over the place
  71. <Faustus> Mishie was in direct conflict with a parahuman Joan of Arc

  83. <Saff|Immy> also the more times you shout fuck at cashy the better your rolls are.
  84. <Teller> Thanks. That's my Director talking with Anti's NPC.
  85. <Panda> Ayyyy
  86. <Panda> Hmm, I'm thinking about a draft for position
  87. <Panda> More Pact Dice than WD
  88. <OptimusRhyme> Position for what?
  89. <Panda> Resources, position in society, etc
  90. <Faustus> Be the literal murder hobo
  91. <Panda> Wealth, Family, Societal Outlook, Legendary Deeds, Named Companions, Contacts and Connections
  92. <OptimusRhyme> For this myth game you're thinking about?
  93. <Panda> I'm sure there's more, but something like that
  94. <Panda> Yes
  95. <Panda> Depending on which one(s) you get
  96. <Panda> It puts you at a different place in the game
  97. <OptimusRhyme> That sounds pretty cool
  98. <Panda> Someone who maxed out Deeds starts the game with some notoriety and clout, as well as a further understanding of what they're capable of
  99. <Panda> "Routed an entire army by only killing a single person" type shit
  100. <Panda> Gives different buffs and bonuses with hidden downsides that should be clear, given the context they're delivered
  101. <Panda> Etc etc etc
  102. --> iridium248 (iridium248@net-1o8.55k.156.175.IP) has joined #Weaverdice
  103. <Panda> Should maybe try to generate some mythical esque powers with corresponding triggers
  104. <Faustus> Could always pull some inspiration from Cleopatra and Marc Antony for a multitrigger
  105. <Panda> "Your insane mother, deluded into thinking that the gods would listen to her if she tried hard enough, held you underwater as a child, by your ankle. She ignored your thrashing as you tried desperately to escape the agony and pain of the icy chill spreading throughout your body. When you realized that she'd kill you and then blame it on the gods, y
  106. <Panda> ou trigger."
  107. <Panda> Boom, Achilles.
  108. <OptimusRhyme> So the PC's are the legendary/mythical figures?
  109. <Panda> No
  110. <Panda> They are of that stock, though
  111. <OptimusRhyme> Oh, gotcha
  112. <Faustus> Atalanta could be easy. Raised by bears and all that.
  113. <Saff|Immy> but make the bears gay men.
  114. <OptimusRhyme> A Roman raised by wolves
  115. <Faustus> It was specifically a she-bear
  116. <iridium248> What did I miss?

  118. <Panda> Working on a tentative project, WD: Age of Heroes
  119. <Panda> Might make it Age of Gods, because, y'know, capes
  120. <OptimusRhyme> An Egyptian child set adrift on a river, but wasn't found for days
  121. <Jovial> Saff knows
  122. -*- Saff|Immy high fives jov
  123. <iridium248> "You've taken massive amounts of hallucinogens, and you're wandering the desert. Holy shit, is that bush on fucking fire?"
  124. <Panda> Yes, that's generally how it'd work
  125. <Panda> But like
  126. <Panda> Original triggers
  127. <Panda> To produce original myths and legends
  128. <Clawford> "then you realize that a bush on fire isn't that strange. That's when it start talking."
  129. <Faustus> Oh, so new myths
  130. <iridium248> "And it says - Kill them all, Moses. Kill them alllllll."
  131. <Jovial> You could basically just change the dynamic into one where religious institutions and local folklore mutates capes into legendary figures.
  132. <Faustus> You know what they say, when in Rome, steal the formats of other myths and change names and a few events
  133. <Jovial> Skitter triggers and everyone says she's a godly plague on a quest.
  134. --> Camtist (uid157531@brockwell.irccloud.com) has joined #Weaverdice
  135. <Panda> That is true, that is a thing I could do
  136. <Faustus> You were found as a child at a mountain, raised by the people who lived there, and learned the ways of the rocky highlands. You were much different from the people there, less able to breathe among the high steps of the hills, more stout, but they all treated you as a member of their village. It was fine, you were a rather renowned hunter until the age of 15, and an invading force came to your peaceful life. In a whirlwind of events,
  137. <Faustus> your village goes up in flames and your father is trapped. Staying with him, the enemy soldiers advance, but stop when they see you. Shortly after, a man dressed as a general enters with tears in his eyes. The dawning realization of the truth of your life, and the fear at what this man will do to your true father causes you to trigger.
  138. <Faustus> Ah crap, forgot to add that the man is the spitting image of you
  139. <Panda> That's pretty potent
  140. <Panda> I dig
  141. <Faustus> Inspired by Oedipus but without the complex
  142. <Jovial> The only reason we care about Oedipus is because of the incest though.
  143. <Panda> This is true
  144. <Faustus> Not true, the Sphinx was an important takeaway as well
  145. <Panda> Sphinx who?
  146. <Faustus> The Sphinx's riddle
  147. <Panda> Riddle who?
  148. <Megiavelli> That's 'Doctor' for you.

  151. <OptimusRhyme> The old local lord, blessed with many daughters but with little land or money for dowry, is holding an archery competition, promising the hand of his youngest and most beautiful daughter to the winner. Your the best shot in your village and you've trekked two days to the castle to compete. And you make it to the final round, easily besting the othe
  152. <OptimusRhyme> rs. But on the final shot, you can't help but look at the woman you're sure to marry. You miss, and your arrow strikes her in the chest. Trigger.
  153. <Panda> Wait what
  154. <Panda> What a twist
  155. <Faustus> Your creator is insane, and the gods have blessed him to entertain themselves. It is the only explanation. You were made fully formed from marble. A sculpture. Your creator was... interesting to say the least. His ideal partner did not talk, walk, do any of the things humans did, so it's easy to see why he fell in love with the thing that became you. He loved it so much that he implored the goddess Aphrodite bestow you life, and that
  156. <Faustus> she did. It swiftly broke down after that. You were perfect before, but your new ability and thought made your creator angry. He had ruined the one thing he loved, and then he tossed you out. Alone, cold, hungry. All things you had never been before. Overwhelmed, you trigger.
  157. <Megiavelli> That's one hell of a miss.
  158. <Faustus> Wow, what a twist, he could actually draw the bow
  159. <Panda> So a tinker
  160. <Faustus> Let alone string it
  161. <Panda> Or a master
  162. <Panda> That creates and empowers sculptures and/or marble
  163. <Saff|Immy> ahh galatea
  164. <Panda> And the sculpture triggers?
  165. <Faustus> Yep
  166. <Faustus> Pygmalion and Galatea
  167. <Panda> You just can't help yourself, can you?
  168. <Panda> I don't want derivative legends
  169. <Faustus> Hey, in the original they're happy together (for some reason)
  170. <Panda> I want original figures who carve their own paths
  171. <Faustus> All legends are derivative. This one just goes on further and takes different steps to get there.

  177. <Panda> I'm saying, and I'll be more clear
  178. <Wellwick> Thanks very much for playing, glad that the Aosta has started off so well :D
  179. <Panda> In the same way a bunch of triggers were created for WD that are original and not all exactly like X event
  180. <Panda> Or inspired by something completely unrelated to other characters
  181. <Panda> I'd like the same thing here
  182. <Panda> Just because I gave an example of an 'Achilles' trigger, doesn't mean I want an Achilles trigger included
  183. <Panda> It's lazy
  184. <OptimusRhyme> But a deranged mother trying a crazy, dangerous ritual to save her sick child could easily be a trigger
  185. <Panda> Yes, it could be
  186. <Panda> But let's not miss my point
  187. <Megafire> You've spent your entire life building up and maintaining your farm. It is everything you could want, and you're able to support a good part of a nearby village with the hard work of yourself and your family. One night, however, you wake up to a sound you've always dreaded, and, when you set your feet down, you find the water up to your ankles. You rush outside to see your life's work flooded away. Trigger.
  188. <Panda> Again
  189. <Panda> That's a solid one, Meg
  190. <OptimusRhyme> I think i got it
  191. <Faustus> Your creator is insane, and the gods have blessed him to entertain themselves. It is the only explanation. You were made from the foam of the sea, a boar's tusk, and the scrapings of a soup pot. You started as a creature similar to a rat, but each day saw you brought closer and closer to his perverted image of humanity. And then one day you were. Each movement brings pain as the whole pain of a human existence comes to you. The
  192. <Faustus> grinding of your bones, the pounding of your heart, the breath in your lungs, all are pain. Before you can grow accustomed to your new life, the pain it all brings, the creator opens you to the sunlight. Trigger.
  193. <Megafire> Could probably phrase it better to make it more impactful, but it's late, so I'm not going to bother.
  194. <OptimusRhyme> Is the archery competition one kinda what youre looking for?
  195. <Panda> Those look good
  196. <Panda> And Faust that's fucked up and I love it
  197. <soulpelt|sleep> The land around the mountain has always been fertile. Crops grow large, cattle fat. Then one day the earth is shaking, the sky darkening and the air choking. The mountain is exploding, and as the dark cloud of hate and fire wash down you trigger.
  198. <Faustus> Deciding to try something you heard in a poem, you strap on your father's armor and sword, then jump for the ocean. Turns out that maybe the claim of swimming for eight days in full armor is ridiculous. You sink like a stone into the salty, cold depths. Trigger.
  199. <Megafire> Ha!
  200. <Megafire> Anyway, I'm off to bed. Goodnight, all.

  221. <Teller> If you want something simple, I'd say: 4 categories, 12 points. Each category has a number of tiers equal to the number of players. Highest bidder in a category gets the highest spot, and so on.
  222. <Teller> In the case of ties, break it based on the character concept they describe for that category (My great deed would be X, etc) or some other factor like willingness to take flaws.
  223. <Panda> Hmm.
  224. <-- Silvors (Silvors@net-6f9nmk.dyn.centurytel.net) has quit (Ping timeout: 181 seconds)
  225. <Panda> 4 categories? How would I consolidate what I listed above?
  226. <Teller> No need for it to be 4. Could bump it up 6 with 18 points.
  227. <Cyn> I feel like none of my PCs are on here, now that I've actually come into some free time.
  228. <Panda> So like: Wealth - You possess most of the wealth and workers in the city (5 pts), You are fairly wealthy due to your ownership of the nearby mine (4pts), You aren't the wealthiest, but you don't know hunger (3pts)
  229. <Panda> And so on?
  230. <Teller> Yeah, something like that. It'd be a relative thing, though, so instead of (5 pts) it'd be (highest bidder).
  231. <Panda> Fair enough
  232. <Teller> Were you imagining a more involved process?
  233. <-> Thaliaway is now known as Thalia
  234. <Panda> Somewhat?
  235. <Panda> Like
  236. <Panda> I want people to decide what they want to be, and how they want to get that way, but I also want to limit it
  237. <Panda> So what you're suggesting isn't that awful, tbh
  238. <Panda> I'm trying to figure out how I want to handle triggers and die rolls at the same time, too
  239. <Teller> If you want something really crazy, deal out specific deeds to the PCs semi-randomly and make them barter for it.
  240. <Panda> Example?
  241. <Teller> Er, not deeds. Tiers/Categories.
  242. <Panda> Hmm. I think I might have something.
  243. <Teller> What are you thinking?
  244. <Panda> Let the players bid from a sizable pool on the trigger event they'd like. And if they have enough, they can bid on multiple, to start them off with parahuman assistance.
  245. <Panda> With whatever they have left, bids are made on the categories.
  246. <-> Citrus is now known as CitrusTree
  247. <Panda> Allowing a normal character who wants to bid on "Normal, able to trigger" to start off not completely behind.
  248. <Panda> Hmm. Maybe bids on re-rolls as well?
  249. <Panda> Pondering pondering.
  250. <Teller> Interesting. How many PCs and triggers are you thinking of having?
  251. <Panda> 5.
  252. <Panda> Maybe like 15 triggers
  253. <Panda> If you look up, there's a bunch that were tossed out already, so it wouldn't be too hard
  254. <Teller> Hm. Decreased scarcity means less pressure on bidders.
  255. <Teller> Not necessarily a bad thing.
  256. <Panda> If you bid, you lose those points. If you win a bid, you get half of the points invested in it back.
  257. <Panda> I was kinda thinking ahead haha

  269. <Teller> That way, players who didn't get the trigger they wanted will have more buying power in the second round.
  270. <Dolyn> I agree with that notion, Teller. Let people get closer to something they want.
