- 4000 Downpayment + destination
- 654 * 36 = 23544
- -1875 Federal Tax Credit
- -5000 from selling RS
- Cost = 20669 over 3 years
- RS Sale = 31000 - 12,500
- 18,500 Return (possibly)
- 5000 used to start lease, invest remaining 13,500
- 13,500 at 4% over 3 years = 15,185
- 34 Payments left on Focus
- 450 * 36 = 16200
- Maintenance ~ 2000$ (Will probably need new tires by then).
- RS worth in 3 years with 26,000 miles on it...
- Maybe 25,000?
- 25000 - 18200 = 6800
- If I pay off the RS it will cost us 18200$ over the next 3 years and we'll be left with an asset worth 25,000
- If I sell it that day, I will have had a net cost of ownership over the period that is positive 7000. It also has a full warranty for 6 years which limits risk.
- Cost = 18,2000 Estimated
- Asset = 24,0000
- Net Result = 5000 to 7000$ (Depending on how much it sells for)
- If I get the Model 3 it will cost us 20669$ over the next 3 years, and we'll be left with an Asset worth 15000$ (The Cash from the RS)
- Cost = 20669
- Asset = 15000
- Likely Gas Savings from 30,000 miles at 30 MPG and 3.75$ per gallon = 3000$
- Net result = Loss of 2,500
- We will be taking a hit of 7,000 dollars by getting the model 3. This comes down to 194$ a month
- The question is whether or not having the performance model 3 is worth an extra 194$ a month compared to driving the RS. This fact stands regardless of who is paying for it. I don't like to waste my money or other people's money. Even if squeeze paid for the whole thing I'd still say no if I didn't think it was worth it.
- Pros:
- Faster than the RS
- Better Tech
- Comfier
- Better for Passengers
- Cherrie can drive it
- Safer
- Better for the enviroment
- I have to explain to 98% of people what a Focus RS is and everyone will know what a tesla is
- Neutral:
- Not necessarily as thrilling as RS, but more thrilling than the civic, and we would be driving it every day so it would even out (Besides most of the time I drive the RS in traffic anyway which kills the fun).
- Electric, lowers flexibility but also we have a second gas car
- Negatives:
- Not as flashy as the RS for those who know what it is
- More common
- Automatic, in a time when Manuals are becoming increasingly rare/valuable
