MOTIVATION

As many of you who have watched/known me for a long time, I used to have a little challenge back when pbtracker was The Site™. There was a page for users, and it was sorted based on how many categories you had run. My goal was always to be at the top of that list. At the time, the two people preventing that goal were Dugongue and Barnowl. Both of them have all of my respect, because they have run so many games, and on average, don't let quantity sacrifice quality.

Barnowl plays pretty much every 2d Mario and Zelda game at an extremely respectable level, so much so that my goal for many of the Mario games I have learned was to just cut Barnowl's time, a goal that I was sometimes able to achieve, and sometimes not. Dugongue is a bit of a mixed bag. Some games are hit-or-miss, like some of the board game/card game/game show speedruns, but for the most part, if Dugongue has run a game, that time is probably going to be pretty hard to beat.

Toward the end of the pbtracker era, Jumpyluff came along. I joke and shit on him a lot, but he has run a lot of games that definitely take a lot of skill. He shot to the top of pbtracker mostly because of flash games and IWTBTG fangames, but he has the numbers, and I'll leave it at that.

Recently Pac has added the same list that has rekindled some of my dwindling speedrun motivation. I've never felt more pumped. I spent 7 hours last night routing, learning, and finally getting a time only a few minutes off of TAS in a brand new game, and I have plans to learn already a few more games this week. I want to finally get to the top of that list.

I want to try to learn at least one new game a week on average, ideally more like two. When I talk about this, a lot of times people tease me about preferring "quantity over quality", but for anyone who has watched me run obscure games, I really do try to optimize them as far as I can before I lose interest. In some cases, that might be more than others.

Expect to see lots more random games. Lots more. LOTS MORE. I am going up from the bottom on speedrun.com.
