- Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia 100% Definition
- For the purposes of the speedrun, I define 100% as all of the following on one file:
- - All recruits living
- - All quests
- - All memory prisms (excluding DLC)
- - All treasure chests
- - All one-time dungeon battles
- All Recruits Living
- Recruit every unit in the game. This makes every map and dungeon slower since I can't permanently kill off units, so I have to manually deselect/escape with every flunky, costing several minutes over the course of the run. But it would also be silly to not have this as part of a 100% definition. As I can't kill off units permanently to save time anyways, I use casual mode for this, which allows me to sacrifice units for faster strats but they will still stay alive.
- Dean/Sonya are mutually exclusive, so I can only get one of them. As I'm going by a 100% definition for only one save file, it is impossible to really do more than this.
- All Quests
- Quests are a bit arbitrary as there are a few quests that can be repeated - I consider a quest completed if the NPC dialogue icon in the world map disappears.
- It's Oil Right & Craving Cute
- - These two quests are repeatable and give random rewards, but the NPC icon disappears after you do it a single time, so I only have to do them once at minimum.
- - However, It's Oil Right can give a Dragon Scale, which is basically required. So I save-scum for this.
- - Craving Cute can also give a fucking cog because reasons?!?!?!?!! So I also have to save-scum for this.
- Alessio's Quests: Corraling Coral & The Merchant of Death
- - These quests are also repeatable up to 5 times each. The NPC icon does NOT disappear until they have each been done 5 times, so I require finishing these 5 times.
- - Corraling Coral requires 5 Coral Fragments - 4 of them have to be collected as random drops from Seabound Shrine.
- - The Merchant of Death requires 5 Steel Lances - Celica's side doesn't have enough iron/steel lances without relying on drops, so I send 2 over from Alm's side.
- - The Merchant of Death must be completed before Last Bastion in Act 4 - Alm. It is permanently missed if not done by then, so the lategame routing and merchant handling actually revolves around completing this quest.
- There is a quest that requires all 9 mila's turnwheel cogs fyi, so that's already included in my definition
- All Memory Prisms
- - There are 10 memory prisms in the game, excluding the DLC ones. A memory prism is often only available once you have the relevant units recruit, which actually affects routing such as making sure I recruit Python and Forsyth before going to the Zofia Castle balcony to get their memory prism.
- - The last memory prism is at the end of Thabes Labyrinth, so this category requires clearing that in Act 6.
- All Treasure Chests
- Collect every chest in every dungeon
- Thieves Shrine (1): Iron Sword
- Deliverance HQ (2): Iron Bow, Silver Purse
- Seabound Shrine (1): Blessed Sword
- Sylvan Shrine (1): Gold Mark
- Dragon Shrine (4): Iron Lance, Nethergranate, Cog, Coral Ring
- Lost Treescape (3): Silver Sword, Silver Lance, Silver Bow
- Fear Mountain Shrine (7): Silver Purse+, Shadow Sword, Cog, Speed Ring, Hexlock Shield, Blessed Bow, Silver/Blessed Shield
- Duma Tower (3): Silver Purse++, Ladyblade, Cog
- Secret Shrine (2): Nectar, Gold Mark
- Duma Temple (3): Brave Sword, Gradivus, Gold Mark
- Thabes Labyrinth
- The Silver & Blessed Shield in Fear Mountain Shrine are mutually exclusive - I'm only requiring one of them for the same reason that I'm only requiring one of Sonya/Dean.
- All one-time dungeon battles
- Most of these are required as part of the treasure chests requirements and clearing dungeons naturally. But there is a one-time fire dragon fight in Thabes Labyrinth that only blocks a spring, so for that reason alone, I added this as a requirement.
- What I'm NOT including in 100%:
- - All springs - Impossible in casual mode since the revival springs cannot be consumed.
- - Reveal all maps - This category is long enough as it is, I don't need more of pointless running around in Thabes Labyrinth.
- - All pick-ups - Same reason I'm not doing "Reveal all maps", this adds nothing interesting at all and just lengthens the run pointlessly. Also dumb to track.
- - Max forging unique weapons - some weapons can only be collected once like Blessed weapons and the Gant Lance, so one could argue requiring them for 100%. But you can literally toss a weapon if you want, even if they're unique weapons, so I won't include it. It's also dumb.
- - All supports - this is dumb and would just add spamming encounters to build supports with several pairings. I also consider supports an "removable untracked resource" similarly to dropping unique weapons, as you can technically just kill off a unit to lose a support on classic mode. Not quite the case on casual mode, but if you want another reason than "I don't want to", then there it is.
- - Cap every unit level and stat - Literally impossible without the Star Jacinth, which is paid DLC, and even if it weren't DLC, this is dumb, so no.
- - All achievements - these aren't tracked per file (which is what I'm basing 100% off of - for one file), and fuck grinding for sol/luna/astra, so no.
- Disagree with any of it? Oh well. I just included stuff that can be concretely defined and tracked while still being fun to route and execute without taking forever. 100% is always a mess to define for RPGs, and this is no exception to be honest, but I think this is a reasonable compromise between a concrete definition that's actually viable to do and track.
