  63. Okay. Here's what I'd like your input on: 1) Is the community who likes to "bot" large enough to sustain a full server 2) what rules are most appealing to this community to keep it thriving as long as possible 3) What would dissuade "botters" 4) How do we keep this server healthy, i.e. we don't want this to be a server rife with RMT and hacking, but passionate players who like to challenge themselves and the game by being ridiculously awesome. Shall we start with those? Your thoughts on 1) to start with?
  64.
  65. [14-Jan-20 06:04 PM] #7716
  66. 1.) Ruleset is probably the most important and drives the players into doing what they can to get ahead
  67.
  68. [14-Jan-20 06:04 PM] #0384
  69. Can you define "bot" please, Holly, specifically automated boxing or?
  70.
  71. [14-Jan-20 06:05 PM] #0384
  72. anything other than truebox or?
  73.
  74. [14-Jan-20 06:05 PM] windstalker#2532
  75. Botting is automated boxing. THe issue of offline/automated is not okay for us.
  76.
  77. [14-Jan-20 06:05 PM] windstalker#2532
  78. Baally, not true box. You can run VMs provided you are online and actively playing.
  79.
  80. [14-Jan-20 06:05 PM] #9008
  81. I ~~think~~ know there is a very large robust community of boxing/botters - definitely enough that would be very attracted to a tlp server
  82.
  83. [14-Jan-20 06:06 PM] #7716
  84. So no MQ2 is the easy line of demarcation Holly?
  85.
  86. [14-Jan-20 06:06 PM] #1993
  87. I also feel non boxers would still also play on this server?
  88.
  89. [14-Jan-20 06:06 PM] #4686
  90. Automated boxing meaning, MQ2? Something else?
  91.
  92. [14-Jan-20 06:06 PM] windstalker#2532
  93. You tell me what you think on MQ2
  94.
  95. [14-Jan-20 06:06 PM] #6794
  96. Personally it is the reason the draws me back to EQ.
  97.
  98. [14-Jan-20 06:06 PM] #7398
  99. I mean just being able to 2 or 3 box can really make or break ones ability to explore content when groups or others is limited
  100.
  101. [14-Jan-20 06:07 PM] #9008
  102. non-afk mq2 in 2020 is completely different than mq2 in 2001 -
  103.
  104. [14-Jan-20 06:07 PM] #1993
  105. I think that MQ2 and be used without AFK play, a lot of features that it brings are things that the addon system brings to wow
  106.
  107. [14-Jan-20 06:07 PM] #7716
  108. I think that a lot of people are going to almost have to use MQ2 non afk over something like isboxer
  109.
  110. [14-Jan-20 06:07 PM] #2651
  111. There is a large mq2 community as we are all aware. The trick is those that go overboard with it and ruin other people's gameplay
  112.
  113. [14-Jan-20 06:07 PM] #8740
  114. I would say the population is there to support it, I've been in several very large raid guilds and typically 50-75% play multiple characters. On Lockjaw we had like 12-13 active raid guilds in clas and almost everyone boxed lots of characters. I don't know very many people that I play with on live servers that don't box multiple characters.
  115.
  116. [14-Jan-20 06:07 PM] #6794
  117. Without MQ2 I wouldn't have come back after 20 years. It combines both hobbies of programming/sofware-dev and online games.
  118.
  119. [14-Jan-20 06:07 PM] #9008
  120. mq2 adds a ton to this game, and actually provides an environment that people can play the game that wouldn't otherwise
  121.
  122. [14-Jan-20 06:08 PM] #9008
  123. I was actually assisting an mq2 user last week who is a quadriplegic - and while this is an extreme case - without mq2, he wouldn't be able to play --- and there is no other game that he could
  124.
  125. [14-Jan-20 06:08 PM] #6794
  126. And given the design language of EQ, I don't feel that content is adequately accessible given my play style without something like MQ2 allowing me to play a group.
  127.
  128. [14-Jan-20 06:08 PM] windstalker#2532
  129. That's what I thought. Constructive use of MQ2 seems realistic. It's the offline use that gives us heart palpitations. Warp hacks, etc.
  130.
  131. [14-Jan-20 06:08 PM] #7716
  132. I personally do not use MQ2 but I think that if you are going to allow any kind of non true box it's very much hand in hand with allowing at least limited MQ2
  133.
  134. [14-Jan-20 06:08 PM] #9008
  135. yeah, a good portion of our mq2 userbase agree with that Holly
  136.
  137. [14-Jan-20 06:08 PM] #6794
  138. Many of us are not fans of warp hacks and active "hacks" as well.
  139.
  140. [14-Jan-20 06:08 PM] #6794
  141. And I think are also well respecting of the at-the-keyboard play.
  142.
  143. [14-Jan-20 06:08 PM] #7716
  144. those "hacks" are being used on current TLP's as is though
  145.
  146. [14-Jan-20 06:09 PM] #9008
  147. my mq2 philosophy is "be a good neighbor, don't afk, and be an ambassador for what a good mq2 player looks like"
  148.
  149. [14-Jan-20 06:09 PM] windstalker#2532
  150. That sounds fine to me. I just need to convince the entire dev team with bribes and stuff. 🙂
  151.
  152. [14-Jan-20 06:09 PM] #2651
  153. How can the active hacks or warps be controlled? It's hard to do so without dedicated CS
  154.
  155. [14-Jan-20 06:09 PM] #8740
  156. So in our Lockjaw guild a large number used EQ Mule's "Very Vanilla" MQ2 which we've understood isn't disallowed on the non-truebox TLPs. Most of our guild actively was against automated/afk play and we'd self-police and tell our guildies not to do it if we caught them. I think very few of the people that automate are really playing EQ as a game, there's almost always a bad for the community reason they're playing unattended.

  161. [14-Jan-20 06:09 PM] #8740
  162. I'd note that many of the features in VV MQ2 are built in to games like WoW by default, for frame of reference
  163.
  164. [14-Jan-20 06:10 PM] #6794
  165. I'm a very big fan of the VV community.
  166.
  167. [14-Jan-20 06:10 PM] #9008
  168. as far as i've been told, all the TLP warping/active stuff is not a part of the mq2 or VV side
  169.
  170. [14-Jan-20 06:10 PM] #7716
  171. the current TLP hacks are not specific to MQ2
  172.
  173. [14-Jan-20 06:10 PM] #6794
  174. And that eqmule has done what they can to prevent mq2 usage on truebox.

  178.
  179. [14-Jan-20 06:11 PM] windstalker#2532
  180. Well, here's the thing. This effort will also need some amount of dedicated CS until we understand what we are dealing with. If we are going to do it, we want to do it right, with the support of people like you. THat said, I think if any of you have time/inclination, we can keep an open forum/Discord somewhere to openly discuss what may be ruining the experience.
  181.
  182. [14-Jan-20 06:11 PM] #7716
  183. CS is going to be a HUGE aspect of this and if you can dedicate the time and resources to it I believe this server could be the biggest one in game
  184.

  186. Haxx0rz will always be haxx0rz and we may need your help
  187.
  188. [14-Jan-20 06:11 PM] #9008
  189. yes absolutely - we've had a pretty vibrant discussion amongst the focus group here on things that would look like
  190.
  191. [14-Jan-20 06:11 PM] #2651
  192. We did discuss some sort of "community watch" but not sure how cable that idea is
  193.
  194. [14-Jan-20 06:11 PM] #6794
  195. I think that's a great idea.

  198. well second to FV maybe

  201. Viable*
  202.
  203. [14-Jan-20 06:12 PM] #7716
  204. @ came up with an idea that you could burn a krono to page a GM for serious issues sort of like a challenge flag in football
  205.
  206. [14-Jan-20 06:12 PM] windstalker#2532
  207. This is a bit of an experiment, obviously. 😄
  208.
  209. [14-Jan-20 06:12 PM] #6794
  210. I think we also had as much discussion as we could to setup a ruleset that dissuades hax and automated boxers from ruining the experience of others.
  211.
  212. [14-Jan-20 06:12 PM] windstalker#2532
  213. whoa lol
  214.
  215. [14-Jan-20 06:12 PM] #6794
  216. As I think economic incentives can be such that we dissuade them from even joining.
  217.
  218. [14-Jan-20 06:13 PM] dreamweaver#9505
  219. I think there were lots of viable ideas in the ruleset discussion.
  220.
  221. [14-Jan-20 06:13 PM] #1993
  222. What about a kind of "guide" program with advanced reporting features? where that guide would actually get feed back from CS?
  223.
  224. [14-Jan-20 06:13 PM] windstalker#2532
  225. I love that idea. Not sure we can use krono that way, but it's a cool idea
  226.
  227. [14-Jan-20 06:13 PM] windstalker#2532
  228. We can look at guides too, for sure. That program needs to be revived.
  229.
  230. [14-Jan-20 06:13 PM] #4686
  231. FWIW, I do think it's super important to get the rest of the ruleset right too, not just the bit that allows boxing/automated boxers. A otherwise unattractive (at least ot me) server that just happens to allow boxing isn't super interesting to me. For me at least, what I do and can do, while a fun meta game within a game, is also a means to an end.
  232.
  233. [14-Jan-20 06:13 PM] #1993
  234. right now if a player reports a "botter" you don't know what happened not that every player should know
  235.
  236. [14-Jan-20 06:13 PM] #7716
  237. I think if you sell a marketplace item for krono that does that and take it seriously the users will take it seriously
  238.
  239. [14-Jan-20 06:13 PM] #9008
  240. a fundamental that seems relevant to all points re: the CS aspect - is relationship which includes using tells instead of /say (which get lots in battle spam)
  241.
  242. [14-Jan-20 06:14 PM] #7398
  243. I think the community loves it too from what ive heard, i wouldn't make it the required way, but if you could have an elevated, which wouldnt leave the community feeling the default way had been lessoned, you'd have a real winner on hand
  244.
  245. [14-Jan-20 06:14 PM] windstalker#2532
  246. Okay, let's move on to 2) the ruleset suggestions.
  247.
  248. [14-Jan-20 06:14 PM] #0675
  249. The thing seperating people from 2-3 boxing are programs like MQ, IS boxer and various macro/autohotkey scripts. The only reason a lot of people use it on live servers and some of the older TLPs like Ragefire is because they don't have an option if they want to progress in the game. I personally think its a cancer and a bad idea. I hope I'm not a minority in this discussion. There is definitely a bucket of people that use it - but in my opinion not a pool that you necessarily want to keep healthy. I think once you start advocating it, you're not going to be able to start walking back on it. I think its something that needs to be thoroughly thought out. The stuff you can do with MQ is pretty wild, hacks aside - I'm talking specifically about things like MQ2 Melee and being able to tell your entire group to do something with a click of a button.
  250.
  251. [14-Jan-20 06:14 PM] #7716
  252. okay ruleset did you read the votes channel?
  253.
  254. [14-Jan-20 06:14 PM] #7398
  255. One question I have, more directed toward Dreamweaver, is can the unlock schedule be variable? I.e can certain xpacs be longer and others shorter?
  256.
  257. [14-Jan-20 06:15 PM] #0384
  258. ```2) what rules are most appealing to this community to keep it thriving as long as possible```
  259.
  260. [14-Jan-20 06:15 PM] #9008
  261. ```
  262. - not truebox - HUGE
  263. - AoC - HUGE QOL
  264. - smarter pick/instance numbers
  265. - FV loot rules - this one is negotiable, but HIGHLY desirable - many folks think all servers should be FV loot rules in this day and age
  266. - advanced xp rates with advanced unlocking
  267. - ability to x-fer off at some designated point 1yr 2yr something - negotiable
  268. - better relationship/communication with GM/Community management particularly in game (think my woebot sentiment earlier)
  269. - better "behind the scene" detection for RMT shenanigans if they want to combat rmt - look at how blizzard handles some stuff --- if you sell a 1s
  270. jug of milk on the auction house for 50k gold - it triggers something behind the scenes and you get a friendly "warning" in-game mail about the
  271. dangers of RMT.
  272.
  273. - *** bonus points *** streaming mq2 <3 <--- absolute pipe dream, but it was so fulfilling when i was doing it (naively thinking if i was being "a good neighbor" dbg was gonna be cool with it
  274. ```
  275.
  276. [14-Jan-20 06:15 PM] dreamweaver#9505
  277. I was gonna say it might be a good plan to just copy past the final votes. Real quick.
  278.
  279. [14-Jan-20 06:15 PM] #7398
  280. because the Clas-70 run, can be really long, but most servers died before they reach the content, and 80+ a month can be too short
  281.
  282. [14-Jan-20 06:15 PM] #2651
  283. Agreed @dreamweaver
  284.
  285. [14-Jan-20 06:15 PM] dreamweaver#9505
  286. @Raabe I think they can be but that's something Holly and I would have to check with the dev team.
  287.
  288. [14-Jan-20 06:16 PM] #7716
  289. starting in clas, with AoC and pick and krono, faster xp rate but not live (Selos maybe), 2 month cycle on the big expansions, more loot drops over faster raid lockouts, and no FV ruleset
  290.
  291. [14-Jan-20 06:16 PM] dreamweaver#9505
  292. I'm not sure how much work that would entail so I don't want to say yes for sure.
  293.
  294. [14-Jan-20 06:16 PM] #7716
  295. that was the consensus on votes
  296.
  297. [14-Jan-20 06:16 PM] #2651
  298. Yes suineg
  299.
  300. [14-Jan-20 06:16 PM] #7716
  301. I think the loot over lockout is a big quality of life that will keep boxing and normal users happy
  302.
  303. [14-Jan-20 06:16 PM] #2651
  304. I think that makes a great ruleset
  305.
  306. [14-Jan-20 06:17 PM] #9008
  307. more loot over faster lockout sounds cool
  308.
  309. [14-Jan-20 06:17 PM] #2651
  310. Taking the best out of all the previous tlps
  311.
  312. [14-Jan-20 06:17 PM] #7716
  313. if you are in a guild with boxing, even truebox, you need to gear those non player characters just as much
  314.
  315. [14-Jan-20 06:17 PM] #1993
  316. One thing that would reduce CS complains would be to remove open world raids so there's no racing which reduces the incentive for people to magically teleport everywhere
  317.
  318. [14-Jan-20 06:17 PM] #1993
  319. it would be a unique rule though
  320.
  321. [14-Jan-20 06:18 PM] #8740
  322. As a veteran of Ragefire/Lockjaw I felt those two servers had an insanely huge player base prior to the release of Phinny; I honestly think if you just released servers with the clas starting point and "live" server boxing rules, with pickzones/AoC like you have on all the other TLPs it would be amazing. I've always felt if AOCs had been added to Ragefire/Lockjaw lots of the guilds that left would have stayed--my interactions with the guilds that left those servers was that they mostly left because they couldn't raid, not because of boxers
  323.
  324. [14-Jan-20 06:18 PM] #7398
  325. Yea the other big technical hiccup, Everyone i know who played on Selos loved the xp, the idea of fast unlocks, loved the server, but the biggest problem selo has, is the half unlock time, leads to extreme burnout, needing to raid 2 times a week sometimes 3 per Target, leads you to having to raid 7days a week. If you could do double loot instead with standard lockout, you'd see the same gear, and not burn out your population, they could raid one night a week and still be as capable
  326.
  327. [14-Jan-20 06:18 PM] #7716
  328. oh and @windstalker you know what I am going to bring up when it comes to RMT don't you? VETERAN REWARDS
  329.
  330. [14-Jan-20 06:18 PM] #4686
  331. I think you'd still have all the same people hacking to grab random group named with high value items as you would raid mobs
  332.
  333. [14-Jan-20 06:18 PM] #4686
  334. If you removed OW raid bosses.
  335.
  336. [14-Jan-20 06:18 PM] #2651
  337. Those people won't be stopped
  338.
  339. [14-Jan-20 06:18 PM] #0384
  340. And key mobs @
  341.
  342. [14-Jan-20 06:19 PM] #4686
  343. Yea and key mobs
  344.
  345. [14-Jan-20 06:19 PM] #9008
  346. whoever had that idea about having a marketplace item for fellowship - that was a great item and would be awesome for a tlp server
  347.
  348. [14-Jan-20 06:19 PM] #2651
  349. They always found a way. On every server
  350.
  351. [14-Jan-20 06:19 PM] #7716
  352. I don't think removing OW solves problems more than it would create for things like epics and keys
  353.
  354. [14-Jan-20 06:19 PM] #4686
  355. IOW, I think removing OW raid bosses doesn't really stop anything
  356.
  357. [14-Jan-20 06:19 PM] #8740
  358. I don't think removing open world raid mobs from the earlier expansions would be a good thing, they are what makes that era of p lay unique vs modern MMOs
  359.
  360. [14-Jan-20 06:19 PM] #4686
  361. or even curb it in a meaningful amount
  362.
  363. [14-Jan-20 06:19 PM] #7716
  364. you have /pick trying to solve that
  365.
  366. [14-Jan-20 06:19 PM] #7716
  367. so if you get your pick thresholds correct it will solve itself
  368.
  369. [14-Jan-20 06:19 PM] #1993
  370. Oh mostly just CS complaints my experience playing on ragefire and earlier tlps was the poopsock
  371.
  372. [14-Jan-20 06:19 PM] windstalker#2532
  373. If we do FV rules, allowing transfers might be a challenge. The team generally is nervous about that idea. It depends on what craziness occurs. If you couldn't transfer off, would you not play there?
  374.
  375. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #4686
  376. I don't care about xfering off
  377.
  378. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #7716
  379. I think we generally don't want FV
  380.
  381. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] windstalker#2532
  382. poopsock 😦
  383.
  384. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #0384
  385. I believe that another Phinny, but boxing allowed, with faster XP and maybe xpac unlocks that are pre-discussed as making sense would be a huge hit with EQ players in general
  386.
  387. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #6794
  388. I'd still play there... no worries about transferring.
  389.
  390. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] dreamweaver#9505
  391. I think in general they don't want FV rules
  392.
  393. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #4686
  394. TLP charaacters are baally useless on live servers
  395.
  396. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #7716
  397. TLP = diablo or path of exile league/season characters
  398.
  399. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #8740
  400. As a guild leader it'd be nice to force my raiders to return loot they didn't need so I could distribute it to recruits
  401.
  402. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #8740
  403. But I think overall FV ruleset would be bad news for TLPs
  404.
  405. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #6794
  406. I felt like a big reason many were discussing FV rules is dissuading economics that prop up the nastier sides of the community
  407.
  408. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #0675
  409. FV loot rules, I know this is a controversial one. But the easier it is for guilds to move gear around to help them progress or get new people into the raiding scene, the better off the population will likely be. I know from an RMT side this is probably an absolute nightmare.
  410.
  411. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #7398
  412. A lot of people make friends on TLP, with Live players, and when the TLP fades or dies, would love to take their toon, to live to continue playing it
  413.
  414. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #2651
  415. Agreed with it would cause heeadaches
  416.
  417. [14-Jan-20 06:20 PM] #9008
  418. the FV rules thing was very close - FV is the most popular server for a reason
  419.
  420. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #4686
  421. I think FV rulset will bring out the worst of the RMTers
  422.
  423. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] windstalker#2532
  424. Okay cool. And this may seem odd, but a dev here suggested disabling the use and trade of Krono on the server. Thoughts?
  425.
  426. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #7716
  427. you can't have this discussion without FV rules brought up for good reasons
  428.
  429. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #7716
  430. we talked about no krono
  431.
  432. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #7716
  433. I think it breaks the current game
  434.
  435. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #0675
  436. I'm going to come at you from a marketing perspective
  437.
  438. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #1993
  439. I feel that disabling krono just would make people do trades on multiple servers
  440.
  441. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] windstalker#2532
  442. Sorry, I mean, if we did FV rules and disabled Krono
  443.
  444. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #8740
  445. I pay for EQ the old fashioned way so I don't care about krono as much, but I think there's just so many players that really expect to be able to use them it'd hurt the player size of the server
  446.
  447. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #9008
  448. issue about the krono is they could/would do it on another server tho right?
  449.
  450. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #6794
  451. I think we need ot keep krono
  452.
  453. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #0675
  454. if you have an FV server and you disable Krono, you are making a mistake
  455.
  456. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #4686
  457. It's a popular idea a lot of people have to try and combat RMT. My opinion is that I think RMTers will just tell you that "if you want X item, give me a krono on Y server"
  458.
  459. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #0384
  460. I think a lot of the community would like the disabling of Krono on the server, the forums say it can't be done, and some would certainly circumvent by logging into other servers.
  461.
  462. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #4686
  463. and you'll just end up with more CS complaints from people getting sammed
  464.
  465. [14-Jan-20 06:21 PM] #4686
  466. scammed*
  467.
  468. [14-Jan-20 06:22 PM] #7716
  469. krono is just a placeholder for massive amounts of plat is all
  470.
  471. [14-Jan-20 06:22 PM] #1993
  472. ie ill give you 1k here for a krono on xxx server
  473.
  474. [14-Jan-20 06:22 PM] #1993
  475. and then someone steals the krono and doesn't pay up then CS problems again
  476.
  477. [14-Jan-20 06:22 PM] #2651
  478. I think that's a bad idea
  479.
  480. [14-Jan-20 06:22 PM] #9008
  481. I feel like there are better ways to combat RMT over disabling krono
  482.
  483. [14-Jan-20 06:22 PM] windstalker#2532
  484. Okay, noted. Thanks. 🙂
  485.
  486. [14-Jan-20 06:22 PM] #6794
  487. Really, aim for the monetary economics, if it's not worth an RMTers time, they won't join it.
  488.
  489. [14-Jan-20 06:22 PM] #8740
  490. the no krono trading would probably remove some of the worst elements tbh, like I know some of these bad actors and many of them only do TLPs to make krono buuuut I think it's like throwing the baby out with the bathwater (who throws bathwater out?)
  491.
  492. [14-Jan-20 06:23 PM] #2651
  493. People like to use a safe way to pay to win. It's just the truth of it
  494.
  495. [14-Jan-20 06:23 PM] #1993
  496. unless this was a stormhammer type server with a seperate non krono sub then yeah it'd probably work 🙂
  497.
  498. [14-Jan-20 06:23 PM] #7716
  499. the best way to combat RMT is loot/xp flowing just enough to make it not quite worthwhile to risk your entire account but not so fast that the "pros" can exploit it
  500.
  501. [14-Jan-20 06:23 PM] #0384
  502. I think it is a fine idea, it should probably be considered with more detail than we have time to give it here in this environment
  503.
  504. [14-Jan-20 06:23 PM] #7398
  505. there a lot of people, that play eq, that may not be able to afford a monthly sub, especially on multiple accounts, but if they play they can roll that into continuing to play eq
  506.
  507. [14-Jan-20 06:23 PM] #6794
  508. Agreed with suineg...
  509.
  510. [14-Jan-20 06:23 PM] #4686
  511. Everyone threw bathwater out back in the day before indoor plumbing
  512.
  513. [14-Jan-20 06:23 PM] #0675
  514. If you remove Krono, the only thing thats going to solve is RMTers moving it to a public forum - remember playerauctions?
  515.
  516. [14-Jan-20 06:23 PM] #6794
  517. RMT exists for content that folks will just pay money instead of their time.
  518.
  519. [14-Jan-20 06:23 PM] #7716
  520. dj2sp
  521.
  522. [14-Jan-20 06:24 PM] #0384
  523. RMTers would still exist but they certainly wouldn't want Krono disabled on the server
  524.
  525. [14-Jan-20 06:24 PM] #1993
  526. Increasing the spawn rate on nameds and reducing pick threashhold would also reduce RMT as items would be essentially worthless
  527.
  528. [14-Jan-20 06:24 PM] #7716
  529. you can finesse that line between so much rare spawns items are worthless and getting a good enough amount that it's just not quite necessary
  530.
  531. [14-Jan-20 06:24 PM] #0384
  532. Pick thresholds need to be revisited no matter the ruleset
  533.
  534. [14-Jan-20 06:24 PM] #9008
  535. i think those are good suggestions /suineg
  536.
  537. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #1993
  538. lower pick threashholds also should again reduce players fighting over things
  539.
  540. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #7716
  541. you are going to be working a bit more with the raid drops having a higher drop amount I think
  542.
  543. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #0675
  544. Can we stay on a single topic
  545.
  546. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] windstalker#2532
  547. So push up rare spawns so rares aren't rare enough to RMT?
  548.
  549. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #6794
  550. *nods*
  551.
  552. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #1993
  553. or more picks so everyone can actually get the camps
  554.
  555. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #7716
  556. push them up a bit but more importantly have raid bosses drop more loot
  557.
  558. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #2651
  559. Carefully balanced
  560.
  561. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #2651
  562. Is key
  563.
  564. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #6794
  565. I think, at least for the MQ2 community, the challenge is figuring out how to configure and program things to defeat the content versus camping time to achieve something.
  566.
  567. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #4686
  568. Selos has increased rare spawns, I assume RMT is still happening on Selos, no idea to what extent 😛
  569.
  570. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #6794
  571. So, making loot super easy to get won't reduce interest.
  572.
  573. [14-Jan-20 06:25 PM] #0384
  574. You'd have to cut pick requirements very low to negatively impact things in the game
  575.
  576. [14-Jan-20 06:26 PM] windstalker#2532
  577. picks are really expensive for us on the technical side, but we can discuss it. We can certainly try it and everything crashes constantly we can tune it
  578.
  579. [14-Jan-20 06:26 PM] #9008
  580. maybe consider loot tables being more spread out over multiple mobs in a zone
  581.
  582. [14-Jan-20 06:26 PM] #7716
  583. with boxers and all that you want to be funneling people into the raid game and not the droppable loot game
  584.
  585. [14-Jan-20 06:26 PM] #9008
  586. so its not everyone after 1 spawn
  587.
  588. [14-Jan-20 06:26 PM] #8740
  589. you mean like Grieg's End
  590.
  591. [14-Jan-20 06:26 PM] windstalker#2532
  592. lol
  593.
  594. [14-Jan-20 06:26 PM] #6794
  595. *nods* I think the notion of picks was to increase loot chance and content chance.
  596.
  597. [14-Jan-20 06:27 PM] #6794
  598. So if there are alternative means as brought up, I think that's a really good idea too that may be cheaper than instances
  599.
  600. [14-Jan-20 06:27 PM] windstalker#2532
  601. Okay, we'll take your rules overview to the team. Thanks so much for doing that 🙂
  602.
  603. [14-Jan-20 06:27 PM] #4686
  604. Some zones the pick threshold seems fine FWIW, but other zones it feels like the threshold is a lot higher than you'd have in zone while also camping any meaningful camp people would want
  605.
  606. [14-Jan-20 06:27 PM] #1993
  607. RMT mostly happens because the buyer has money but can't compete or doesn't have time to compete
  608.
  609. [14-Jan-20 06:27 PM] windstalker#2532
  610. I'm going to explain part 2 of this plan and let me know what you think....
  611.
  612. [14-Jan-20 06:27 PM] #4686
  613. Back when I still XP'd in OW, I would semi regularly bring extra boxes just to get a pick to spawn -.-
  614.
  615. [14-Jan-20 06:27 PM] #7716
  616. angry goblin pick size ...
  617.
  618. [14-Jan-20 06:28 PM] windstalker#2532
  619. At the same time as this server, I want to launch a true box server that will also have dedicated CS support with pretty hardcore tolerance rules, i.e. smell of botting will be dealt with harshly. Sort of the purest experience we can give for those who freak out when they see boxers. Baally, I want to attempt to deliver an experience you want and one "they" want.
  620.
  621. [14-Jan-20 06:28 PM] #0384
  622. maybe removing MoTM or adding certain key mobs to picks could reduce the anger toward boxers locking them down as well
  623.
  624. [14-Jan-20 06:28 PM] #0384
  625. making it more friendly for everybody
  626.
  627. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] #1993
  628. I think thats a great idea
  629.
  630. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] #4686
  631. @windstalker Will that server disallow all boxing? or only automated boxing?
  632.
  633. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] #7716
  634. if you wanted to dance with FV rules that would be the server to do it on
  635.
  636. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] windstalker#2532
  637. I WANT EVERYONE TO BE HAPPY
  638.
  639. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] #6794
  640. So, I think that's an awesome idea.
  641.
  642. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] #2651
  643. Ambitious, I like it
  644.
  645. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] #6794
  646. You're probably still going to have some bad apples, but I figure we all probably know that.
  647.
  648. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] windstalker#2532
  649. we will attempt to disallow boxing. Or maybe suggest no more than 3.
  650.
  651. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] #7716
  652. not saying to do FV but if your team really wanted to play with it you would need that kind of CS
  653.
  654. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] #6794
  655. Because nasty folks are going to be nasty folks.
  656.
  657. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] windstalker#2532
  658. I used to box four myself and that was my phyal limit
  659.
  660. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] #0384
  661. Will population support 2 servers again?
  662.
  663. [14-Jan-20 06:29 PM] #4686
  664. ^
  665.
  666. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #7716
  667. true box with 2 boxes per IP , sure people will VPN but this slows down a bit
  668.
  669. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #4686
  670. that's my biggest concern
  671.
  672. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #9008
  673. imo - i think the "relationship" side goes a long way --- if the "regular" folk feel like issues are dealt with, and have faith that if it isn't "dealt with" it isn't an issue will go a long way
  674.
  675. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #8740
  676. Just based on all the people who seem to deeply hate boxing who post on the forums I think it'd be a good idea. I've never played p99 but my understanding is however their volunteer GMs go after boxing is pretty effective and blocking it.
  677.
  678. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #1993
  679. I think that some players would be very happy with a no boxing strictly enforced server
  680.
  681. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #8740
  682. I feel for the people tryin to enforce the rules tho 😛
  683.
  684. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] windstalker#2532
  685. Right lol
  686.
  687. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #6794
  688. Holly, if we had a TLP for MQ2 -- and then another TLP that was NO MQ2, minimal boxing, I think that's cool. Based on looking at the tools for phyally boxing like that, I'd probably go back to Elder Scrolls Online if I wanted a click fest.
  689.
  690. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #4686
  691. I also think that a absolutely no boxing server is doomed long term population wise, but I think that a lot of people will at least think they want it lol
  692.
  693. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #7716
  694. are you plussing up the staff to do this?
  695.
  696. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #9008
  697. a truebox server should be hard enforced - if folks are breaking that, they should be punished (false positives suck, however)
  698.
  699. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #7716
  700. or just focusing them with better tools?
  701.
  702. [14-Jan-20 06:30 PM] #0384
  703. would the noboxing be seasonal or event server or something? It seems like later EQ that would be an extremely dead server
  704.
  705. [14-Jan-20 06:31 PM] windstalker#2532
  706. Can population support two? I think so. It's also how we message this out as two different opportunities. It's not a rinse/repeat of last year.
  707.
  708. [14-Jan-20 06:31 PM] #6794
  709. I would agree, while the populations aren't mutually exclusive, I think they're certainly separate enough.
  710.
  711. [14-Jan-20 06:31 PM] windstalker#2532
  712. @ I think that's a great idea. Seasonal could be great for True Box
  713.
  714. [14-Jan-20 06:31 PM] #0675
  715. It depends on the ruleset honestly
  716.
  717. [14-Jan-20 06:31 PM] #6794
  718. In some ways the P99 green server release shows that I would say.

  721. I think it'd appeal to a lot of the early Agnarr P99 crossover players if you recall all of them
  722.
  723. [14-Jan-20 06:31 PM] #0675
  724. Just saying that ones a babysitting server and ones an open playground isnt going to necessarily draw crowds
  725.
  726. [14-Jan-20 06:32 PM] windstalker#2532
  727. DO you have suggestions ?
  728.
  729. [14-Jan-20 06:32 PM] #7716
  730. @ are you thinking different rulesets for each?
  731.
  732. [14-Jan-20 06:32 PM] #0675
  733. I have a lot of suggestions but I dont want to TL/DR the entire chat just yet
  734.
  735. [14-Jan-20 06:32 PM] #0675
  736. trying to stay reserved
  737.
  738. [14-Jan-20 06:32 PM] windstalker#2532
  739. lol
  740.
  741. [14-Jan-20 06:32 PM] #9008
  742. lol same ❤️
  743.
  744. [14-Jan-20 06:32 PM] windstalker#2532
  745. We will accept dissertations in any form. 😄
  746.
  747. [14-Jan-20 06:33 PM] #2651
  748. I'd keep your selves open for changing or tweaking rule sets of servers. The population is dynamic and different games eras change this outlook, along with time a server has been live
  749.
  750. [14-Jan-20 06:33 PM] #7716
  751. Holly has read some of my real small dissertations on nothing
  752.
  753. [14-Jan-20 06:33 PM] windstalker#2532
  754. lol
  755.
  756. [14-Jan-20 06:33 PM] #6794
  757. Dissertations eh? Right up my alley.
  758.
  759. [14-Jan-20 06:33 PM] #9008
  760. launching 2 servers at the same time definitely *sounds* like a risk to me --- it felt weird enough having miraguls coming out so close to a live expac
  761.
  762. [14-Jan-20 06:33 PM] #2651
  763. A dead server after 9 months is a dead server and we've seen a lot of those
  764.
  765. [14-Jan-20 06:33 PM] windstalker#2532
  766. Good point, @ChicagoMedic . Here's a question....
  767.
  768. [14-Jan-20 06:34 PM] #9008
  769. I've always thought that a "temporary" TLP would be cool - like it is only going to last X amount of months, and then that toon gets put on a regular server on your account
  770.
  771. [14-Jan-20 06:34 PM] #4103
  772. I feel like the best approach to a nonboxing ruleset is pretty close to what p99 Green/Teal are. Very slow unlocks and stopping around Velious era as past that is when you start hitting content people aren't able to do by themselves nearly as effectively
  773.
  774. [14-Jan-20 06:34 PM] windstalker#2532
  775. So, typically, players absolutely flip out if we change things after we've launched them. So, would you perhaps suggest we launch a server with clarity that it's a fluid ruleset based on what the NAMELESS OVERLORDS observe? (Freaks me out after we tried to help with guild rotations. that was a gloriously F*cking terrible idea)
  776.
  777. [14-Jan-20 06:35 PM] #8740
  778. I don't view a server that dies as a failure tbh, I think there's actually players who like the cyclical TLP nature
  779.
  780. [14-Jan-20 06:35 PM] #8740
  781. Like most of us that did Agnarr for 1.5 years really loved it and we knew it was ultimately a dead end
  782.
  783. [14-Jan-20 06:35 PM] #1993
  784. lol the guild rotations 🙂
  785.
  786. [14-Jan-20 06:35 PM] #2651
  787. I was there for that Holly hahaha I imagine....the rotation stuff
  788.
  789. [14-Jan-20 06:35 PM] #7716
  790. what kind of rules might be adjusted
  791.
  792. [14-Jan-20 06:36 PM] #9008
  793. fluid ruleset is a good idea - but the **communication** and expectation on the customer end has to be there
  794.
  795. [14-Jan-20 06:36 PM] windstalker#2532
  796. Expansion unlock pacing, XP rates, stuff that should help the population, not hurt it
  797.
  798. [14-Jan-20 06:36 PM] windstalker#2532
  799. we just can't do voting again. that was also a terrible idea
  800.
  801. [14-Jan-20 06:36 PM] #9008
  802. surprises suck for many folks, but if they know it going into it - it could give them some hope that "if something doesn't feel good, we'll fix it"
  803.
  804. {Reactions}
  805. 👍
  806.
  807. [14-Jan-20 06:36 PM] #2651
  808. A disclaimer that rules may change depending on numerous factors is staying true and on top of things. This allows a response by DBG to " save" a server that would otherwise slowly wilt away
  809.
  810. [14-Jan-20 06:36 PM] #7716
  811. if you do that then outline ahead of time which (x) amount of things might change and do NOT vote, your team decides (maybe with a hidden council helping)
  812.
  813. [14-Jan-20 06:36 PM] windstalker#2532
  814. Exactly @ Flexibility to fix the experience
  815.
  816. [14-Jan-20 06:37 PM] #4686
  817. Yea, I'd just be up front that rules may be tuned, while staying core to the "vision" of said server
  818.
  819. [14-Jan-20 06:37 PM] #2651
  820. Yes, communication would be key
  821.
  822. [14-Jan-20 06:37 PM] #2651
  823. For that to work well
  824.
  825. [14-Jan-20 06:37 PM] #4686
  826. and just try to accurately sketch out what the vision of the server is
  827.
  828. [14-Jan-20 06:37 PM] #7716
  829. as a forum owner of hundreds of users I can't imagine how much dumber thousands of players are when deciding an unlock schedule for a TLP
  830.
  831. [14-Jan-20 06:37 PM] windstalker#2532
  832. Fair enough. That's good advice.
  833.
  834. [14-Jan-20 06:37 PM] #1993
  835. I feel one of the issues that cause TLPs to have a decline is they're kind of seasonal in nature. A lot of players are there for 1 through their fav expansion and maybe another then they're ready for a new one.
  836.
  837. [14-Jan-20 06:38 PM] windstalker#2532
  838. Yeah, voting baally just ensured 50% were totally unhappy
  839.
  840. [14-Jan-20 06:38 PM] #0384
  841. From what I have seen having been on most of the TLP in some capacity, each TLP is going to die at some point. Having at least some TLP launched with an expected sunset that corresponds to a launch is a really healthy thing.
  842.
  843. [14-Jan-20 06:38 PM] #0675
  844. The more expansions release the more progression expands, which further increases the gap of new players entering the server. The servers inevitably become top heavy which slowly pushes the average level of the server higher and higher as time continues. To put it to extremes, if you log onto Phinigel right now, you will be stuck trying to solo grind your way to raid level.
  845.
  846. [14-Jan-20 06:38 PM] #0675
  847. Not to mention the TLP release schedule
  848.
  849. [14-Jan-20 06:38 PM] #4686
  850. voting also has the problem of ballot stuffing by other servers who want to see your server fail :V
  851.
  852. [14-Jan-20 06:38 PM] #9008
  853. folks *love* to feel that they're being heard, and that things are happening - unfortunately we have this innate feeling that if we dont *see* something happening we assume it isn't happening (which is a hard part of "behind the scenes") having a robust communication channel with the customer will help alleviate that. and then maybe we can get some of those forum white-knights working in conjunction with dbg in making everyone have a good time
  854.
  855. [14-Jan-20 06:39 PM] #7716
  856. you could also have a stated expansion that the server "ends" but from then on it just unlocks at 2 months for each expansion and is left without any changes or really any kind of support so it isn't dead dead but it met its goal?
  857.
  858. [14-Jan-20 06:39 PM] windstalker#2532
  859. @dreamweaver Happy to hand that off to you Dreamweaver. 😄
  860.
  861. [14-Jan-20 06:39 PM] #7716
  862. like Agnarr could have kept going after 6 months stuck in PoP or some other stated amount of time
  863.
  864. [14-Jan-20 06:39 PM] dreamweaver#9505
  865. Lol it's what I'm here for. @windstalker
  866.
  867. [14-Jan-20 06:40 PM] windstalker#2532
  868. I think we can create a vision and the types of changes that may come, including a "reset" when the population gets to X threshold and give players of that server a benefit when we reboot?
  869.
  870. [14-Jan-20 06:40 PM] #0384
  871. right Suineg, like if Agnarr had been a known 2 yr server, about 2 years into it when it sunset you launched another one, you would have retained many of those players. Maybe metrics show they went to Selo, Mangler, I can't say on that
  872.
  873. [14-Jan-20 06:40 PM] #0384
  874. Some won't keep doing clas forever, but some love that
  875.
  876. [14-Jan-20 06:41 PM] windstalker#2532
  877. Noted. That's great info.
  878.
  879. [14-Jan-20 06:41 PM] #0384
  880. Every 2 years seems about right from people I talk to, not less than that probably
  881.
  882. [14-Jan-20 06:41 PM] #6794
  883. The upside is that having lower populations in certain parts of the game is less of an issue with mq2 and boxing as many folks can still experience content with a full group easily.
  884.
  885. [14-Jan-20 06:41 PM] #9008
  886. gotta keep that carrot/stick ratio so the person chasing the carrot feels they have an edge
  887.
  888. [14-Jan-20 06:41 PM] windstalker#2532
  889. I think we are really lacking on meaningful TLP benefits, especially if that's what you love to do. Achievements/titles/benefits, etc.
  890.
  891. [14-Jan-20 06:41 PM] #7716
  892. did you see what PoE did with their temp league this time and cash prizes?
  893.
  894. [14-Jan-20 06:42 PM] dreamweaver#9505
  895. I did
  896.
  897. [14-Jan-20 06:42 PM] #0675
  898. If I were you I'd stagger TLP releases and do like a seasonal server every other year or something.
  899.
  900. [14-Jan-20 06:42 PM] windstalker#2532
  901. Yep
  902.
  903. [14-Jan-20 06:42 PM] #9008
  904. bonus on reboot sounds awesome - people love to feel like they "got something" for their efforts
  905.
  906. [14-Jan-20 06:42 PM] dreamweaver#9505
  907. And the DIII seasonal model is fascinating too.
  908.
  909. [14-Jan-20 06:42 PM] #7716
  910. you get something like that going with small titles or other things and you will fill a TLP to full
  911.
  912. [14-Jan-20 06:42 PM] #8740
  913. People really like illusions, we have people in my guild who spend 40 hours played worth of DKP to buy the mushroom man illusion item off of Beltron in TSS
  914.
  915. [14-Jan-20 06:42 PM] #0384
  916. even the iksar illusion off of MM was going for huge DKP
  917.
  918. [14-Jan-20 06:42 PM] #9008
  919. yeah the seasonal model is what i was getting at with the "once tlp time is over, then the toon moves to another server" kind of thing --- assuming a tlp with a set time etc
  920.
  921. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #4686
  922. I spent.. wahtever the minotaur illusion cost, and one of the ghost illusions, and another illusion.. * 12 in Daybreak currency lmao
  923.
  924. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #4686
  925. just so I could have all 12 accounts running around with the same illusion
  926.
  927. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #9008
  928. character just *poofing* is not desirable - folks get very attached
  929.
  930. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] windstalker#2532
  931. Are illusions so popular because player races are seriously old-hat now?
  932.
  933. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #0675
  934. Everyone loves illusions - if they're good ones
  935.
  936. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #9008
  937. illusions are popular because you can be the only dude walking into a room as a mushroom man
  938.
  939. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #0384
  940. no, I don' think so, they just like to do something different
  941.
  942. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #1993
  943. You could give out a hat every tlp season
  944.
  945. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #9008
  946. gives some "get on my level" kind of thing
  947.
  948. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #4686
  949. I think they're popular because they're unique
  950.
  951. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #8740
  952. I think it's a few things, some illusions are liked because they are small and being small has advantages
  953.
  954. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #7398
  955. Illusions are the best
  956.
  957. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #7716
  958. here's a crazy idea that probably sucks but have an FV prison server for "retired" TLP's that every character is moved to at the end of it
  959.
  960. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] windstalker#2532
  961. (Yes, @, we didn't expect TLP players would become a group of players all on their own.
  962.
  963. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #8740
  964. Some are liked because they are rare and a status symbol
  965.
  966. [14-Jan-20 06:43 PM] #7398
  967. If you had every illusion in the store pepper would buy them
  968.
  969. [14-Jan-20 06:44 PM] #6794
  970. Heck, I remember back in '99 loving the fact my enchanter got a weird illusion and I could sit in the qeynos newbie area being weird.
  971.
  972. [14-Jan-20 06:44 PM] #7716
  973. that prison FV server has no krono on it and is just for your characters to go have fun on, sort of like test in a way
  974.
  975. [14-Jan-20 06:44 PM] #0675
  976. A seasonal TLP server with a once in a life time reward that you can only get in that event, like an illusion - would be a lot of fun. My only fear is that everyone would funnel into one guild and nobody else would compete
  977.
  978. [14-Jan-20 06:44 PM] #0384
  979. Being able to use mounts/xp potions and such earned on the Quarm event server is something that has come up a lot
  980.
  981. [14-Jan-20 06:44 PM] #4103
  982. Regarding clas benefits Holly. Ngreth and Prathun implemented Hunter Achievements for Clas through LDoN a few years back now. They teased at once point these might be given some tangible in-game rewards but nothing came of it, might be something to revisit like illusions or whatnot
  983.
  984. [14-Jan-20 06:44 PM] #0384
  985. people love that
  986.
  987. [14-Jan-20 06:44 PM] #0675
  988. It has to be flavourful
  989.
  990. [14-Jan-20 06:44 PM] #4686
  991. illusions are also popular with some people just because they don't like the races they have available to them for whatever class they are playing
  992.
  993. [14-Jan-20 06:44 PM] #4686
  994. since most people start with class, then pick race
  995.
  996. [14-Jan-20 06:44 PM] windstalker#2532
  997. I like the idea of a prison server. Has its own little community in EQ2. 😄
  998.
  999. [14-Jan-20 06:45 PM] windstalker#2532
1000. Yes @ we need to do more for TLP as a community for sure
  1001.
  1002. [14-Jan-20 06:45 PM] #6794
1003. Only if I can play snake pliskin...
  1004.
  1005. [14-Jan-20 06:45 PM] #9008
1006. i'm not sure what a "prison server" is - but if it is a 2nd class citizen server - that's unfortunate
  1007.
  1008. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] #0675
1009. I hate achievements and if you added rewards to them I'd be forced to do them (Which is a good thing). TLP clas rewards are legit - that's probably a long term project for someone to slowly work on though
  1010.
  1011. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] #4686
  1012. It's a server you can't get off of
  1013.
  1014. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] #0675
1015. Bobby would probably have a field day
  1016.
  1017. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] #7716
1018. prison just means no transfers and a dumping ground
  1019.
  1020. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] #4686
1021. retirement home server is probably a slightly better or less aggressive term 😛
  1022.
  1023. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] #6794
1024. I vaguely remember hearing great things about the EQ2 prison server back when I played a few years ago.
  1025.
  1026. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] dreamweaver#9505
1027. Baally it would be the post seasonal server.
  1028.
  1029. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] #7716
1030. it would entirely be where retired servers dump to so that they can combine is all
  1031.
  1032. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] dreamweaver#9505
  1033. In this example.
  1034.
  1035. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] #9008
1036. oh post seasonsal - got it
  1037.
  1038. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] #6794
1039. Everyone likes the isle of misfit toys. 🙂
  1040.
  1041. [14-Jan-20 06:46 PM] #9008
  1042. that sounds great
  1043.
  1044. [14-Jan-20 06:47 PM] #0384
1045. I bet it would have its own base after a few seasons
  1046.
  1047. [14-Jan-20 06:47 PM] #7716
1048. you could also give neat rewards at the end of the server knowing it's going to a prison server right after
  1049.
  1050. [14-Jan-20 06:47 PM] #9008
1051. sounds much better than "prison server"
  1052.
  1053. [14-Jan-20 06:47 PM] windstalker#2532
1054. This may sound gross, and a bit off topic, but I'd like your thoughts....if you could pay for a quest to betray your race and be like a high elf enchanter or dark elf paladin, would you opt in? It's a cash only option and might have a steeper price. (Might consider making it member only.)
  1055.
  1056. [14-Jan-20 06:47 PM] #7716
1057. like BFG's to the guild that cleared the most end of expansion raids first
  1058.
  1059. [14-Jan-20 06:47 PM] #7398
1060. I've noticed several gm events on selo in just a month time. Even though they are really small and ba it is nice and noticed
  1061.
  1062. [14-Jan-20 06:47 PM] #9008
1063. windstalker - yes 100% we did this with eq2 and it was great
  1064.
  1065. [14-Jan-20 06:47 PM] #4686
1066. @windstalker that would be extremely popular with a lot of people
  1067.
  1068. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #8740
1069. I think people would like that, and I don't remember anyone disliking that you could baally do any class/race combo in EQ2 if you did the betrayal quest
  1070.
  1071. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #4103
1072. would be very popular but you would give the item devs an aneurysm trying to fix all the old race/class restricted gear
  1073.
  1074. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #7398
1075. Yes holly. People have always wanted certain race class combos
  1076.
  1077. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #7716
1078. race and class people want options, all the options and you can hide it behind quests or cash all you want and people will do it no matter what
  1079.
  1080. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #6794
1081. I think the 'betray your race' idea is very cool. I personally wouldn't be interested but I think having that unique set of options is pretty neat.
  1082.
  1083. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #9008
1084. everyone loved it in eq2 - i remember people stockpiling up spells for when the quest went live
  1085.
  1086. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #4686
1087. I know my wife would be stealing my CC the very minute you launched it to roll her cleric to something she likes better
  1088.
  1089. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #1993
1090. People on live would love to betray their race
  1091.
  1092. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #0384
1093. Wood Elf Cleric? Heck yeah
  1094.
  1095. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #8740
1096. Yeah some of the gear with hardcoded race restrictions would be rough
  1097.
  1098. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #9008
  1099. incoming full iksar groups!
  1100.
  1101. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #4686
1102. Yes wood elf cleric lol
  1103.
  1104. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #7716
  1105. barbarian cleric?
  1106.
  1107. [14-Jan-20 06:48 PM] #6794
  1108. gnome berzerker...
  1109.
  1110. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #6794
1111. a group of gnome zerkers...
  1112.
  1113. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #6794
  1114. The anklebiters...
  1115.
  1116. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #4686
1117. You're probably going to run into some weirdness
  1118.
  1119. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] windstalker#2532
1120. I'd want to be a dark elf paladin for sure
  1121.
  1122. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #8740
1123. like the The Buried Sea raid class armor is actually restricted specifically to the classes that can play those classes
  1124.
  1125. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #9008
  1126. yasss
  1127.
  1128. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #0384
1129. I'm not at all sure how the gearing would work for that though, like has been said. Matching all of that up seems like a very large effort
  1130.
  1131. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #8740
1132. so in theory a DEF PAL wouldn't be able to equip
  1133.
  1134. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #4686
1135. I noticed the other day that some class restricted gear is also race restricted
  1136.
  1137. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #4103
1138. if you went that route the RACE: tag on items would pretty much need to be removed from the game
  1139.
  1140. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] windstalker#2532
1141. and yes, I'm sure the dev team will shank me.
  1142.
  1143. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #4686
  1144. yea like what said
  1145.
  1146. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #7716
1147. you are going to give the loot and quest people a heart attack though
  1148.
  1149. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] windstalker#2532
1150. It's not like game dev is easy on a 20 year old game anyway. 😄
  1151.
  1152. [14-Jan-20 06:49 PM] #7716
  1153. true
  1154.
  1155. [14-Jan-20 06:50 PM] windstalker#2532
1156. Jchan will murder me though, for sure.
  1157.
  1158. [14-Jan-20 06:50 PM] #6794
1159. legacy dev is a great challenge. *grin*
  1160.
  1161. [14-Jan-20 06:50 PM] #7716
1162. go in the database and change every loot to ALL/ALL
  1163.
  1164. [14-Jan-20 06:50 PM] #0384
1165. are we still in #2?
  1166.
  1167. [14-Jan-20 06:50 PM] dreamweaver#9505
  1168. Yeah they will.
  1169.
  1170. [14-Jan-20 06:50 PM] #0675
1171. What are the odds that can discuss in a little more detail what the rulesets would look like for these servers? Kind of see what your thoughts are on them? I know we as a group have kind of talked about it a bit as a group here.
  1172.
  1173. [14-Jan-20 06:50 PM] #0675
1174. as a group, as a group, redundantly redundant
  1175.
  1176. [14-Jan-20 06:51 PM] #7716
1177. @ is very correct in asking when we could maybe have a second conversation after you have brought up the ruleset to the team
  1178.
  1179. [14-Jan-20 06:51 PM] windstalker#2532
1180. Let's move to 3) What would dissuade you from playing on the "Bot" server?
  1181.
  1182. [14-Jan-20 06:51 PM] #4686
1183. If it's a boxer ghetto, or the other ruleset is not attractive to me
  1184.
  1185. [14-Jan-20 06:51 PM] #0675
1186. 50%+ of the server 6 boxing, everyone using MQ with BCC and MQ2Melee
  1187.
  1188. [14-Jan-20 06:51 PM] #1993
1189. Lack of enforcement on afk groups
  1190.
  1191. [14-Jan-20 06:51 PM] windstalker#2532
1192. @ I wanted to know what to discuss with Dev, then if you're open to it, we can discuss further.
  1193.
  1194. [14-Jan-20 06:51 PM] #9008
1195. gms using /say to "check" on a group - lack of community engagement - letting afk groups run wild
  1196.
  1197. [14-Jan-20 06:52 PM] #7716
1198. lack of enforcement would be the only thing
  1199.
  1200. [14-Jan-20 06:52 PM] #6794
1201. It'd also be interesting to know what from a dev perspective ends up being a bit more possible vs less. That being said perhaps this provides good impetus for a few back-end dev projects that haven't had enough oomph to get off the ground yet?
  1202.
  1203. [14-Jan-20 06:52 PM] #6794
1204. Concur -- lack of enforcement on AFK groups
  1205.
  1206. [14-Jan-20 06:52 PM] #6794
1207. Especially AFK groups in heavily trafficked zones.
  1208.
  1209. [14-Jan-20 06:52 PM] #7716
1210. I am telling you it would make money (pun intended) to have an item to summon GM's more urgently by burning a krono to do so
  1211.
  1212. [14-Jan-20 06:52 PM] #1993
1213. Oh I have a "wish" can we get a communication like in wow so you know when a GM contacts you that you're uhh, talking to a GM
  1214.
  1215. [14-Jan-20 06:53 PM] windstalker#2532
  1216. I'll look into that @suineg
  1217.
  1218. [14-Jan-20 06:53 PM] #9008
1219. yeah gm tell window would be amazing
  1220.
  1221. [14-Jan-20 06:53 PM] #0675
1222. Yea, but what if you summon a GM and the GM goes. Uh, you're an idiot... why did you summon me?
  1223.
  1224. [14-Jan-20 06:53 PM] #0384
1225. Make it something easy to parse with gina trigger please
  1226.
  1227. [14-Jan-20 06:53 PM] #4686
1228. Honestly, my biggest fear is that, aside from the non boxing server, that this server would be seen as the "answer" to boxers, and other servers would ratchet down harder on them
  1229.
  1230. [14-Jan-20 06:53 PM] #6794
1231. , "just to say hi."
  1232.
  1233. [14-Jan-20 06:53 PM] #1993
1234. because as it is now, if a gm communicats with you because you're "afk" you have to respond to them or get booted but how am I supposed to know its a GM
  1235.
  1236. [14-Jan-20 06:54 PM] #7716
1237. if the GM says you are dumb then so be it
  1238.
  1239. [14-Jan-20 06:54 PM] #8740
1240. Most of the time you can /who them and it shows them as a GM btw
  1241.
  1242. [14-Jan-20 06:54 PM] #9008
1243. other thing - which is very specific difference between "friendly neighbor" botting/boxing and dudes warping and ghostkilling etc
  1244.
  1245. [14-Jan-20 06:54 PM] #4686
1246. the worst is if they send a tell to one of my random boxes :/
  1247.
  1248. [14-Jan-20 06:54 PM] #4686
1249. who have tell windows minimized 100% of the time
  1250.
  1251. [14-Jan-20 06:54 PM] #7716
1252. @ think of it like a red challenge flag in football
  1253.
  1254. [14-Jan-20 06:54 PM] #9008
1255. warping and ghost stuff and the "active" stuff would be a huge turn off - same with the afk, even more so really
  1256.
  1257. {Reactions}
  1258. 👍
  1259.
  1260. [14-Jan-20 06:55 PM] windstalker#2532
1261. In these cases, GMs will be asked to observe behaviors first before taking action. It's obvious when you see automated gameplay as you know.
  1262.
  1263. [14-Jan-20 06:55 PM] #0675
1264. But back to your original question, if you want to see what a server would look like if you have a botter only server - take a peak at ragefire, most people there use MQ. It's a weird community and it works - You are definitely going to isolate your playerbase though
  1265.
  1266. [14-Jan-20 06:55 PM] windstalker#2532
1267. typically, we summon a character and if it paths back, we kick them all
  1268.
  1269. [14-Jan-20 06:55 PM] #8740
1270. Ragefire isn't a bad community, I was playing there before Selo launched
  1271.
  1272. [14-Jan-20 06:55 PM] #0675
1273. Its not bad at all
  1274.
  1275. [14-Jan-20 06:55 PM] windstalker#2532
1276. It's not going to be perfect, but we need to observe the behavior and/or check server logs
  1277.
  1278. [14-Jan-20 06:55 PM] #0675
  1279. its just, different
  1280.
  1281. [14-Jan-20 06:55 PM] #4686
1282. @ if we get selos 2.0, but with MQ2, when are we rerolling Faceless Conquest on it? 😛
  1283.
  1284. [14-Jan-20 06:56 PM] #8740
1285. We are reaching live or bust w/Selo Faceless 😉
  1286.
  1287. [14-Jan-20 06:56 PM] #2651
1288. A toxic community with no enforced rules would kill the server super fast
  1289.
  1290. [14-Jan-20 06:57 PM] #6794
  1291. Concur.
  1292.
  1293. [14-Jan-20 06:57 PM] #0384
1294. Yeah if it isn't clear that boxing is fine, but cheating via warping and afk playing is not, it will turn off a lot of otherwise interested people
  1295.
  1296. [14-Jan-20 06:57 PM] #8740
1297. I'll probably eat these words some day but I think the server I mentioned before w/live boxing rules and AoC/normal TLP pickzones etc would be really popular + wouldn't have any more cheating than a regular server
  1298.
  1299. [14-Jan-20 06:57 PM] #9008
1300. @ChicagoMedic yeah 100% - which is where i think community engagement plays a huge role
  1301.
  1302. [14-Jan-20 06:57 PM] #4103
1303. From my perspective if you launched two servers simultaneously, 1 being very anti boxing with heavy CS involvement and 1 being very botter/boxing friendly I'm going to choose the one that is against boxing. Even as someone that enjoys boxing I feel like the resources won't be there to police both and the botter server will devolve rapidly
  1304.
  1305. [14-Jan-20 06:57 PM] windstalker#2532
1306. Okay, last question for now 4) How do we keep it healthy? We already discussed adapting rules and seasons. Do you think seasons apply to a bot server?
  1307.
  1308. [14-Jan-20 06:57 PM] #8740
1309. like I'm on my 2nd truebox server now and I've seen cheating on both of them, cheaters will cheat on a truebox and on a non-truebox server since by definition they don't care about the rules
  1310.
  1311. [14-Jan-20 06:57 PM] #0675
1312. I think I'm with Bobby on that one
  1313.
  1314. [14-Jan-20 06:57 PM] windstalker#2532
  1315. I should say "boxing" I guess. 😄
  1316.
  1317. [14-Jan-20 06:58 PM] #4686
1318. I don't think seasons are as important on a boxing server, because the game itself trended towards people boxing more regularly as it got older
  1319.
  1320. [14-Jan-20 06:58 PM] #7716
1321. box server keeps itself healthy based on loot and xp flow I think
  1322.
  1323. [14-Jan-20 06:58 PM] #9008
1324. seasons sounds awesome - sounds like great fun - a ton of the mq2 folks i talk to love making a "new squad" of toons and putting them through the paces leveling up
  1325.
  1326. [14-Jan-20 06:58 PM] #9008
1327. seasons provide that natural environment to do that
  1328.
  1329. [14-Jan-20 06:58 PM] #4686
1330. the problem with no-boxing is the further you get into the game, the more people generally have to rely on boxes
  1331.
  1332. [14-Jan-20 06:58 PM] #0675
1333. For clarity purposes, are you talking about having a single TLP server and randomly adding events in it to spice it up? Or having a TLP server and randomly introducing a seasonal server?
  1334.
  1335. [14-Jan-20 06:58 PM] #9008
1336. community engagement with dbg staff is huge for a healthy population - fluid ruleset where people feel like adjustments are being made
  1337.
  1338. [14-Jan-20 06:58 PM] #1993
1339. Seasons sound great if they happen unlike what happened with brekt and its daddy server
  1340.
  1341. [14-Jan-20 06:59 PM] #9008
1342. "we hear you" goes a long way to keeping folks happy
  1343.
  1344. [14-Jan-20 06:59 PM] #4686
1345. like a major class of people who flake out of a server in later eras, are flaking out because they don't box and it's hard to find groups
  1346.
  1347. [14-Jan-20 06:59 PM] #9008
1348. but you have to back it up with action
  1349.
  1350. [14-Jan-20 06:59 PM] #8740
1351. I'd like more people to see EQ past Planes of Power and I honestly thought the Selo ruleset would deliver it, and it kind of did, we had like 10 raid guilds in Gates, but it dropped off fast in Omens
  1352.
  1353. [14-Jan-20 06:59 PM] #8740
1354. I honestly think the expansion schedule is one of the major factors in people leaving TLPs
  1355.
  1356. [14-Jan-20 06:59 PM] #0384
1357. I don't know, I think a lot of people would rather play on a known quantity, than a server where the rules "may" change to something they don't like at any time. EQ Autism will rear its head at that!
  1358.
  1359. [14-Jan-20 06:59 PM] #6794
1360. I concur with , some of the most fun I have is interesting group combinations that I'd never seen in traditional EQ. My next goal is NEC/NEC/NEC/NEC/ENC/DRU.
  1361.
  1362. [14-Jan-20 06:59 PM] #2651
1363. Not liking seasons. I'd like a server to go to live before dying
  1364.
  1365. [14-Jan-20 06:59 PM] #9008
1366. seasonal things should have different seasonal rewards - maybe even a seasonal quest line that gives reswards - titles, achievements, illusions etc --- just like poe/diablo3
  1367.
  1368. [14-Jan-20 06:59 PM] windstalker#2532
1369. Two TLPs. Should the multi-box server be seasonal or progress like Selo/Mangler
  1370.
  1371. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #1993
1372. Omens has the trouble of being 4 level 70 expansions
  1373.
  1374. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #8740
1375. Some expansions seem to hemorrhage players
  1376.
  1377. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #0675
1378. I maybe a different breed on this one. But if you added rewards for server first completions that only goes to one guild, that would be enough to satisfy my hunger from a competition perspective. Some of us have sat back and tried to think how they could really do a seasonal server
  1379.
  1380. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #2651
1381. But if a server is dead ,pull the plug
  1382.
  1383. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #0384
1384. the box server should progress for sure
  1385.
  1386. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #0675
1387. and it sounds pretty complicated to be original
  1388.
  1389. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #0675
1390. Maybe i'm just a boring person irl
  1391.
  1392. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] windstalker#2532
  1393. lol
  1394.
  1395. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #1993
1396. If there was a seasonal server there would have to be rewards
  1397.
  1398. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #9008
  1399. 100%
  1400.
  1401. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #6794
  1402. Concur
  1403.
  1404. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #0675
1405. What would the themes be?
  1406.
  1407. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #1993
1408. even if its just the hat\
  1409.
  1410. [14-Jan-20 07:00 PM] #0384
1411. I actually think there should be rewards for just completing content on a seasonal server, something the BETA guilds can work on
  1412.
  1413. [14-Jan-20 07:01 PM] windstalker#2532
1414. Right. I think we would have to create a system of rewards that stay with the account somehow
  1415.
  1416. [14-Jan-20 07:01 PM] #7716
1417. I think the first 72 characters get a unique item/illusion/title/something for clearing the end of an expansion in its entirety
  1418.
  1419. [14-Jan-20 07:01 PM] #0384
1420. then also ALPHA guild rewards for racing
  1421.
  1422. [14-Jan-20 07:01 PM] #4686
1423. titles are also pretty popular, especially if you can claim them on other servers
  1424.
  1425. [14-Jan-20 07:01 PM] #4103
1426. A seasonal server that people can expect to "refresh" at a certain point would go a long way to helping returning players get back into the game or decide where to go. A server that went from Clas->Velious every year for example would satisfy the crowd that really loves that particular era while giving you the opportunity to launch different servers that wouldn't directly compete with that playerbase.
  1427.
  1428. [14-Jan-20 07:01 PM] #4686
1429. being able to claim the seasonal reward items on your "normal" server can provide an incentive to play the server even though you know it's going to die on a specific date
  1430.
  1431. [14-Jan-20 07:02 PM] #0675

1534. Since I missed the meeting, for which I apologize, it was a very good discussion. I had voiced topics in the higher messages related to my thoughts though. I did have a comment for @windstalker on the race betrayal idea. This concept would be hugely popular I agree, and to avoid the dev mass murder plan for Holly, I would suggest rather than a mod to all historical items, add a new flag which is essentially a permanent illusion of the new race/class combo, that would be over-writable (yea I know, not a word) by other temporary illusions, then default back to the perm illusion when the temps wear off. Simple check, if new illusion flag exists, use new illusion, otherwise go to race.
  1535.
  1536. [14-Jan-20 10:55 PM] #6708
1537. This would also enable multiple executions of the betrayal process if someone wanted to change to yet *another* race at some later point. The original race check is still the key figure for gear compatibility, and character info could display both flags for folks to remind them that gear flagging is still tagged to the original race chosen, and that cannot be changed. Or perhaps can be changed as a permanent base race change, but that would be restricted to the originally available ones, as you can do with dbg cash now I think(?) like human/cle -> high elf/cle for instance.
  1538.
  1539. [15-Jan-20 06:53 AM] #5795
1540. I think the idea looses luster when you consider it as just a permanent illusion. It does for me anyway. There's enough clickies in game for various illusions that I don't find any issue with simply clicking an illusion if I want to change my appearance. But that's not the point of the betrayal. It's to change your race entirely. Which is an entirely different concept. From a programming stand point I do see the potential nightmare it could cause. As even current gear from TBL/ToV has race tags associated with the gear. Perhaps more to specific issue of gearing though, as opposed to making it an illusion for the sake of simplicity, instead they could introduce quests to turn-in gear for betrayal characters only that would allow them to alter the usable race on a piece of gear into a betrayal line of the gear. How unrealistic would it be for the dev team to make the races assigned to a specific item in the database to be a dynamic value as opposed to a static value without creating a large volumn of duplicate entries in the database. Keeping in mind that the technology that eq is built on is 20 years old and it's unlikely that the way that gear has been handled to this point has changed very much. Beyond that, we revert back to the concept of altering the database to be class specific with races set to ALL to allow such a concept to be introduced.
  1541.
  1542. [15-Jan-20 06:56 AM] #5795
1543. Personally, if you think about it. What purpose do the race tags on class specific gear have currently? For older content there were items that could only be worn by large races, small races etc. More current content isn't limited in the same way as things were in the past. Take the TBL BP for Berserkers as an example. All Berserker races can use the item. So it's a redundant check to ensure both the class and the race match.
