[20:12] Dilemma… Should he feed it... the demon would grow and perhaps harm another... should he refuse, it would go hunting for children...

The black lupin looking man picks mercy, but refuses to strike the fledgling snake demon... He refuses to feed it as well.

"Apologies... feeding your kind has only led to trouble. You'll starve this day. I'll not hunt you... I'll not spare you though." He says, eyes gazing to young Yuri.

Atilus continues his labors. It was not his job to hunt demons, he felt snuffing out life was cruel... he would not become the very thing that did so to others. If the snake attacked or harmed another though... it would be met with his full fury...

[20:14] "Hssss..."

This time, the hiss came with hint of irritation. It could not attack due to its weakness, and there was still a long way to go until he could truly contend with another magi. The forked tongue extends in and out constantly, picking up..

A new scent, this time.

The snake-eyes turn towards Yuri. A moment of pause, before it hisses out again.

"Food.."

[20:18] Yuri had been on patrol here and there earlier, though he had not expected for himself to stumble upon a snake of that size, let alone one that looked so... nightmarish. And could speak.

This was a Demon, of course.

The young Knight seemed hesitant for a moment, though the words coming from Atilus did spur a need to defend the man. His gaze shifted towards the side, avoiding to look directly towards the beast.

"I.. Y-You should leave! Stop trying to hurt humans you monster..!"

Fighting words from someone who was horrible at them. Despite his advice the young boy found himself spurred to show some energy. As if something deep within him was brewing. A cloak of blue surrounded him. His heartbeat rung in his ears. His breath was becoming more pronounced.

Voices. Whispers. Was he just imagining them?

It mattered not, he felt like he had to approach the snake.

[20:23] "Hsss.."

Lately, the intellect of the Serpent has been growing, if only out of the necessity to communicate with the humanity and all that they could offer. And it grew at a rapid rate - whereas just recently all it could do is hiss, nowadays, it could construct words.

Sentences even, and sometimes, complex ones.

Demons are highly adaptable creatures, so much so that pushing them with something, or challenging them in such manner - it is bound to ensure that they would change to accommodate to such trait.

The golden snake-eyes set onto Yuri entirely, the fine slits dilating; the forked tongue extends in and out, yet.. it doesn't move.

"You dissstance yourself.. from the beastsss.."

"But predatory attributesss remain.."

A response to the accusation of him being a 'monster'; akin to saying that they're no different.. even if Fidi is, in fact, a monster.

"I need.. food.."

"Hungry."

[20:29] I need food.
Hungry.

What would it devour? Humans? Children? It sure was in the spot to either steal some crops or eat the farmer who planted them. Yuri's hands felt a certain numbness to them as he grasped onto his oversized weapon. It made the sword almost... light despise its size.

The young Knight could feel it growing within him. Each and every passing moment made him more willing to move forward. To cull those from Helheim. To take down people who threatened others. Something had been drawn from him - awakened when he fought that hound.

More energy was pulled forward, drawn to protect, yet existing due to what stood before him.

"T-Then you can eat my blade!"

He sucked at catchphrases, but this one wasn't awful.

[20:35] "Repugnant.."

To say the least, it is something that the Demon encountered too many times; too often someone would try to pursue him over mere existence. Was it that humanity learned better about demons, that they could no longer tolerate them in the slightest in such way?

Or was it their own bloodlust, their own predatory features?

In the end, it's no different. The shadows that marginally accompanied Fidi were made to scatter closer to him, creating a veil that could ensure he would remain safe for the time being- or at the very least, protect himself from serious harm.

"Attacking all you see.."

"For safety of your own species.."

Yet, words were scarce. Instead, as Yuri sought to engage, the Serpent hissed out and emerged its own magic against Yuri.

[20:42] There was this push that he felt throughout the battle. Even if the Demon was far from being on-par with him it remained. Like a hand pressed up against his back, sending him forward and insisting that he take matters up in his own hands.

Each slash was sent forward tearing at the snake without a second thought. It was far from the normally more meek Yuri that handled himself with little to no courage. Where fear was still present, this battle against a beast wasn't just like fighting another friend, or even a foe. He could recall it clearly: His encounters before Misha had never driven into him anything but fear and duty.

This felt like a duty to.. himself. Or perhaps a duty to someone he had yet to meet. Someone that looked at him from behind.

With the side of his massive blade would he slam Fidi, sending the creature flying away without bringing much more than a few bruises in the process. Enough distance to escape.

Breaths were held tight, and hiseyes drifted down to his hands.

Just what was piloting him in such a way?

[20:45] "Hsss!"

It was no match to the established magi, whether they're old or young. Truthfully, this was almost expected.. and it's the reason why the shadows circulated Fidi in a manner that would ensure he stays as safe as possible. Otherwise? This would be the downfall of the Serpent.

He realized that all too well.

But while the intent to knock it away was clearly found upon the effort of Yuri, it didn't seem to avoid taking the opportunity to slither away as soon as it could. If only one foreshadowing word spoken.

"You.."

"Condessscend me..."

A negative feeling to the Demon, no doubt.. to be encountered with such aggression each time and be defeated.

For now, it escapes.

[20:49] Atilus tags the fledgling snake demon with an ember during the fight. For future purposes, whether to track it or see if it really held the capabilities to be taught... His motions are so subtle that those around would not notice unless their focus was solely on him.

He see young Yuri having no trouble besting the snakeling. Atilus is not surprised at the cadet, however notices the child had found his courage, a far cry from the youth that had wept over his friend Cless losing his arm to Blaidd.

"My, quite the sword arm you've gained." Atilus praises, chuckling as the demon scurries away.

[20:54] Yuri took a few moments to regain his composure. He still wasn't sure what drove him to move forward in an act so bold and brazen rather than stuttering about a billion times to warn the beast to go. Was there something he was missing?

It felt like it.

After a few moments the boy breathed out, letting his sword rest where it belonged with a shake of his head to Atilus' words.

"I.. It was nothing. I'll do better next time."
