  1. My team recently got a new sub-manager everything she is doing reminded me of an earlier episode where Mike had talked about some management classes he had taken. We're now doing this thing called northstar. All of our time is blocked out in 15 minute increments. Short talks with coworkers need to be entered in as "meetings". Small talk is discouraged as we are quickly interrupted by our new manager and asked if we are having a "meeting". Getting up from our desks to take a short break is discouraged, and if we do so we need to put a block on our current task to show that we were away for a moment. Everything we do requires tons of paperwork and evidence to make sure we are "accountable for our time". Everything we do needs a hard due date, even when they problem isn't properly scoped.

  3. This made me remember an earlier episode where Mike had talked about managers making employees produce "artifacts" to make sure they had someone to point the finger at when things didn't work out, because Jar-Jar knows it cannot be managements fault.

  5. Basically, the whole team is at a loss for what to do. All joy has been sucked away from the job and quality is taking a big hit. Had this new manager been a new employee we could have done something, but they have been here forever and have good ties to executive leadership. Maybe the only thing left to do is leave.

  7. Beware Northstar.

  9. Also, Episode 1 was a great movie. Jar Jar was awesome. Star wars was always for kids. A bunch of Teddy Bears took down the technologically superior empire with sticks and bricks. #AppleActionShow
